Nice work of the new pixar. Yes, we just have to accept that they are no longer filming the battles for world peace against universal evil at the junction of two epochs. "Soul", "Luke", "I blush" and "Go" are all very personal stories, correctly seasoned with everyday life that adds to life. Yes, someone sometimes lacks the former “epic”, although here the final battle and the final boss are also very pleased. For me, this is a new and quite natural stage in the growth of an animation studio. She's still interesting to watch.
The first Pixar animated film to open the decade, which may be defining. Because in animation there is a competition between the already familiar style of work and the updated one. However, the studio still adheres to the developed style. But apart from this, the cartoon came at a time when the pandemic began to unfold and did not collect a cash register. As for the quality of the product, there is no problem. More details on everything below.
The plot tells the story of fictional creatures, namely two brothers. One of them turns 16 years old and for his birthday, the late father has prepared an artifact. But it's not just an artifact, it's an opportunity to bring your father back to life for a day. They try to summon an ancestor, but the unplanned happens in the process and they literally manage to get only their legs back and the rest of their body is missing. And now, to resurrect the whole father, you need to perform a special quest and our heroes go on a journey. The setting on the one hand is a bit standard and familiar to many connoisseurs of movies and cartoons. And in general, we were shown a classic adventure story. However, in the details everything is done well and the events are of interest. The situation with the father gives piquancy, and the purpose and characters of the characters, which we will talk about later, add motivation to follow the events.
Let's talk about heroes. There are not many of them here, and much of the focus is on the two brothers and their relationship. The youngest reflects the insecurity and feelings of teenagers. And this is reinforced by the fact that he does not have the necessary support and experience that his father gives. The elder, on the contrary, is hyperbolized and often makes the situation more critical by his initiative. This combination is often used in paintings and works well, and in the hands of the authors of the studio, such a concept is revealed in full. In fact, together they will have to walk a common path for a common purpose. In this journey, they will find weaknesses and strengths, and analyze their relationships. But in addition to the main characters, we also have a charismatic police sheriff, an extravagant dragon girl and a mom of the guys, ready to do anything for their safety.
Also, the tape has excellent dynamics, humor and soulful moments. The creators along the way perfectly complement the world and reveal the characters. We constantly encounter new obstacles and watch as the younger brother masters the element of magic, and the other shows him the direction. And in general, we see different locations and with each step everything becomes more interesting. In addition, it is all decorated with great humor, especially from minor characters. We can say that the line of events with the dragon and the mother of the guys is almost entirely built on the mood. But during the main trip there are fun moments combined with warm and sweet feelings. In matters of family, the studio always responsibly processes meanings and conflicts. So this time, the heroes understand the value of the support they have. Their goal is not the final path, because in fact their path is just beginning, and these experiences and conclusions really help to know and accept themselves.
Conclusion. This is an example of a great work, capable of using the classical formula of the story to give the audience a good story. Perhaps the cartoon is not one hundred percent hit, but it tells about important things and gives wonderful emotions. Therefore, every fan of the studio and the animation genre should pay attention to this project.

"Forward" is fantasy with deception of expectation.
Have a seat, traveler. Today I'm going to tell you a story about happiness. You can believe it or not. But told me her great magician and scoundrel Pixar, whom I have immense respect. And of course, I totally trust him. Except when he splashed saliva about Toy Story 4 and Cars 2. But we try not to talk about those troubled times.
Once upon a time there was magic on Earth, and the world itself was saturated with the spirit of adventure. The brave heroes, risking their lives, went to dangerous distances to test themselves for strength. Magic was an integral part of life. But then people invented the dishwasher, the toilet and the iPhone. And magic wasn't needed. There are questions. . Why build a huge crane to lift things when there's magic. It would seem that magic simplifies life, and technology imitates it. I don’t know why everyone gave up magic. Hard to teach? But not really. My story is about two brothers. There is no magic in the world anymore. Everywhere there are cars, phones, high-rise buildings and a complete lack of adventure. But everything changes when the heroes receive a magical staff. This is where their quest begins.
A fairy tale about a small trip will not leave anyone indifferent. She can make you laugh. She can make you cry. Pixar once again managed to sell a simple story as something amazing. The main characters, at first glance, are quite stereotyped guys, but here Pixar outplayed and destroyed everyone. One is an insecure teenager. He's the kind of guy who's usually bullied in other stories, but here the guy just hustles himself. The second is a master nerd and party-goer, but in the end turns out to be one of the "deep" characters. And the story, developing along the standard path, suddenly makes a fictitious finale. So you need to see it with your own eyes, traveler. You and I are overdue. You should be on your way. Isn't it?
The cartoon is about two young elves who want to bring their deceased father back to life for an hour with the help of witchcraft in a world without witchcraft and to achieve this goal make some journey around their world with their father animated to the waist (bottom). The setting of mythical half-bloods attracts, unfortunately, only that the characters are completely template, predictable and boring, and there is nothing to say about the plot - purely moral family history. Nushtosh, children's cartoon children and should like, in this regard, no claims to it can not be in principle. It's harder for an adult.
This time, under the guise of a children’s cartoon about mythical creatures living in the age of modern digital technologies, Pixar Studio decided to explore the theme of “The Last Words” and fantasize about what you would say to a dear person who left this world if you had the opportunity. This is the story of growing up, turning a boy into a man, becoming him as a person and reassessing his values.
For Dan Scalon (director), this story became very personal, because he lost his father at a very young age, and listening to the audio recording of his voice became a kind of outlet for him. Something similar in order not to go crazy uses the main character. His brother, who replaced his father, chose the path of rebelliousness and in it, a kind of geekism and anarchy are strangely combined. In general, both characters are different sides of the same coin and cannot exist in isolation without each other.
Having the basis of the theme “Fathers and Children” and “The Last Words” in parallel, the writers and the director do not forget to throw a few third-party plots. For example, how we forget our roots and become what we are not. The fearsome Manticore became the owner of the coffee shop, and the fairies have forgotten how to fly. Their magical abilities have atrophied because technology rules the world. However, there is no escape from your nature and no progress will change who you are.
Still, as for the animation itself, it looks in the best traditions of the studio. The project was produced by Pete Docter, and his track record includes three Oscars. So there is no point in worrying about visual storytelling, references to popular culture. You can even say that “Forward” of these references and is fashioned: “Lord of the Rings”, “Indiana Jones”, “Harry Potter”, the cartoon takes from all cult franchises a little.
This project was not just done for six years. The level of detail is so high that dust is visible in the light, and the ears of elves shine through, depending on what angle and how the light falls.
Forward is an exciting adventure built on growing up, acceptance and family values. Dramedi, hiding behind the attraction for children, in the best traditions of Pixar Studio
Beautiful, sweet, kind and very colorful cartoon. At first glance, it may seem that it is strange and stupid, but it is saturated with maximum kindness and I sincerely recommend watching, having previously rejected my expectations and plunged into the world of miracles and unusual events.
Adventure cartoon, which tells about the magical world, about fabulous creatures, about the victory of technical progress. The authors interestingly mix the technical heritage of society, pushing aside magical creatures. The exhibition brings us to the modern world, which has lost magic, where it demonstrates how different creatures live, how they adapted to technology.
The cartoon is filled with interesting “Easter eggs” for everything magical that is already known, so the authors simply put the familiar world in an atypical situation. This story of two brothers, one of whom in all respects the memory of the past, builds his theories of magic, the other is a quiet man, a harmless guy trying to get along in a family, find friends and seem a cool dude. The cartoon carefully squeeze the family drama, give the opportunity to get what the hero was deprived of, and at the same time, reveal to the viewer the value of what is now.
The magnificent quest plot perfectly crosses the modernity of society and ancient magic. The paths of brothers who are forced to get to an important artifact in a day are perfectly combined, because the price is too high. Initially, the brothers’ discord served as part of the trip, but now we see work on characters whose common goals affect love. Interesting is the trip, telling the elf Ian and the audience at the same time, what secrets holds the place, formerly inhabited by sorcerers.
The issues of loss and evaluation of their capabilities are touched upon, in the process of driving, the viewer discovers all new details of the brothers, which gives their mission an epic intensity and adventure spirit. There's a lot of adventure here. In addition to meetings with mythical creatures, "Forward" pleases with a quest: movements on secret signs, an obstacle course, non-standard decisions that need to be made right here and now.
The plot focuses on the details of the denouement. When unforeseen difficulties come, when you need to make a choice, then it is specially diluted with the next riddles and references. So boring to us and informative for the characters. Unfortunately, the mixture of antiquity and modernity is appreciated on the surface. The world is not much worked out, which is why many actions were done very easily and simply. Although it may not be as important to show an unknown adventure as the relationship between brothers.
It seems like something is missing, but at the same time you get everything you want from this adventure. The true love of the brothers for each other is traced behind family conversations, and the passage through secret signs with magical artifacts, with the knowledge of forgotten witchcraft, with ancient writings and constructions, with a mechanism long covered with mold - this inspires joy and gives delight. The final note of drama can have the desired effect, and the culmination allows you to look at this world in a new way. A good cartoon that conveys the main idea to the viewer, formulating its entire timekeeping.
When I watched Go, I could clearly associate myself with the characters.
This is the story of two brothers who have lost their father, and with the help of magic they have the opportunity to meet him again, albeit for only 24 hours.
But to do this, they will have to go through a difficult adventure, during which they must understand that teamwork and support at the very beginning of the journey are necessary, and the main thing is that you have the right person who can put you on the right path, even if he is not trodden and it may seem that he is not really there, but it is this support, insurance at the right moment that will allow you to really open up and take the right steps.
At the age of sixteen, one of the brothers realizes that he wants to change himself and his life. He realizes that it is time to pull himself together and go out into the street a new person. As a reminder, he made a list of what he must do today to make his life change, but he is hampered by the main enemy inherent in everyone, it is fear. Fear of opening up to new people, fear of appearing strange, fear that he is not capable of being brave like his father.
The other brother always acts as if he is not afraid of anything and is always open to new obstacles. He loves his car and his family because he has a brother he believes in and will never let him lose faith in himself. Living a full life without fear and doubt, he sometimes seems to other people as if he is useless and makes too many mistakes. But to be the person you want to be, you have to make mistakes: small mistakes, big mistakes, big mistakes. It is this bitter experience that will help you see the right path.
Both brothers need each other to reach the goal of their adventure. But not only will they benefit from their fascinating journey, along the way they will meet characters who have lost what they had in the past, forgetting behind the routine of modern life that they were once legends. After all, why go somewhere with the right step, run to that after which you will be proud of yourself, if the path you need to go seems endless and your legs hurt all the time. Most people just get in the car and drive around.
When all the mistakes have been made and the path has been passed, you will need to go back to where it all started to see it with new, learned experiences and take the final step, open the door with a key and step over the threshold. Let the reward that awaits you in the end be yours for a few seconds or you decide to give it to the person who needs it at this moment, you will never say that all this was in vain.
It's nothing. To be honest, I'm disappointed at Disney Studios. And if in the English voiceover you can enjoy the voices of Chris Prat and Tom Holland (doubtful of course, but at least so), then in Russian it is not. What did you fight for? What's up? What do we need to preserve tradition? Isn't that too much of a topic? Appreciate what you got? This is also discussed and analyzed in other cartoons and films. Nothing new, nothing exciting, a little humor, but not enough to take a second look. I regret that I bought it forever, I had to forget for 2 days.
I’ve said many times that movies aren’t my thing. Well, it's just not mine. But every time someone close or friends says to me, 'Oh, that's not what it's usually like. This is a very special cartoon & #39; and I'm buying it.
No, nothing special in 'Forward'No. There is another banal hand-drawn story, clutched on the knee, where moral vectors, so necessary for the upbringing of children, pass through red lines. Family. Love. Brothers and sisters. Parents and children. That's just for the soul does not take absolutely - although, it seems, the authors did everything in order to squeeze a tear out of the viewer in the process of viewing.
The plot, as usual in cartoons, is quite simple. Two brothers, whose father died many years ago, get the opportunity to resurrect their parent with the help of a magical staff for a short time to communicate with him. But, as usual, something went wrong - otherwise the plot simply would not have happened. And now two brothers, between whom, in principle, there is no special intimacy, are forced to go on a long journey that will undoubtedly bring them closer and teach them simple truths. It's banal. Naive. Predictable.
In addition, ' Forward' in principle, I did not seem particularly adapted for viewing children - it is more likely still for adults. What is the resurrected boys ' half of the Pope' - well, for you to understand, it is really visually the lower half of the human body, revived and communicating with sons. That is, throughout the film, children turn to a grown man (okay, their father) somewhere at the level of the fly. Talking to your ass, to put it mildly. Nothing bothers anyone, right? What this move was for, I don't know. To make kids laugh? Or adults? Just a mystery.
Many reviewers have written about how carefully PIXAR treats the subject of death, supposedly so necessary for children. Honestly, I'm not really sure that we should talk about death with children, much less in that tone. But no, the film studio repeatedly returns to this topic - and if in ' The Mystery of Coco', for example, everything was really careful and neat, using folk legends and myths - then the resurrection of the lower ' half of the pope' from my point of view smells well just some mockery of the idea of the afterlife. The director cannot decide whether he is an atheist or sincerely believes in higher forces - and in the end either laughs at the topic of resurrection, or removes this insanity in full seriousness.
So is everything. It is clear that the whole story is transferred to the fictional world of elves (well, it would be even stranger if everything happened in the human world). But the elves, as we can see, with magic in recent years has become a bit bad – that is, it is almost no. She died, and if it manifests itself somewhere, it is only in the lower half, the one with the ass.
In general, I watched this wonderful creation and once again made a promise to myself that more I am on cartoons - well, not a foot. If my daughter had been a little girl, she would never have been taken to such a cartoon. I do not write a negative review just because there are cartoons much worse - the same 'Frozen-2', for example.
Ian and Barley are brothers who lost their father early. Only a cassette with a voice recording reminds of it.
On the day of Ian's 16th birthday, her mother fulfills her husband's will and gives the brothers a magical staff. You can bring your father back to this world for a day. But something goes wrong and only the lower half of the head of the family materializes. No talking, no hugging. You have to go on a trip to have time before sunset to conjure another half-folder.
Pixar sold their soul to the devil. Otherwise, how do they manage to work so subtly with the subject of death in children's cartoons? ' Up', 'The Mystery of Coco' and now 'Forward' manage to be both fun, touching and deeply dramatic.
Once again, the artists ' Lampovaya' studios thought out and embodied in detail the world of the main characters. A world inhabited by magical creatures with reduced social magical responsibility: the manticore is now the owner of a family cafe, the fairy-pixie, on the contrary, brutal bikers, and unicorns from cute creatures turned into junk cats.
In addition to the theme of death ' Forward' touches on several complex and important issues: relations between brothers and stepfather, compromise with the outside world and with yourself for the sake of earnings, the problems of small people, both literally and figuratively.
The film is based on the personal story of director Dan Scanlon and his brother – they lost their father when they were 1 and 3 years old, respectively. All they have left of him is an audio recording. In real life, we are surrounded by many miracles and inventions, but only in his work, Dan was able to realize childhood dreams and resurrect his father at least for a moment.
I couldn’t help but cry at the beginning and end of the film. This story is no less personal to me. My dad passed away when I was 6 years old. And I also have a tape of our conversations. Therefore, I understand with all my heart the experiences of the heroes and the director. I want to take a miracle and see my dad. To say everything that is not said, to tell what has been lived (I will soon reach his age), just a hug.
The film teaches you to love those who are near now, while they are near incarnate. Mom, dad, brother, stepfather, it doesn't matter. Then it might be late. And no one will say, '. Goodbye. Hello.'.
Great cartoon. I thought about his shortcomings and found nothing significant. p.s. The name is not exactly translated, or rather not accurately conveyed the meaning.
Once the world was filled with magic, but to learn it was long and difficult, so fabulous creatures went on the path of technological progress, discovering electricity, inventing cars, developing cities, as a result of which goblins, trolls, fairies, elves and other fictional creatures began to live in a boring and ordinary world, and magic went into oblivion.
The main characters - the brothers-elves - get a magical staff of the deceased father, with which they try to resurrect him for 1 day, but something goes wrong, and the brothers are able to materialize only dad's legs.
Immediately after the start, a rather trivial roadmowie begins in search of an artifact with which the brothers will be able to resurrect their father completely. The adventure comes out without much surprise, even the opposite: with a full package of clichés; training the protagonist of magic looks like a very long and stretched tutorial before the main action. And, it would seem, there is nothing like that in this, but new spells are thrown too into the forehead, that is, of all the troubles of the heroes, spells are saved, which, for example, were not mentioned before. Just remember the meme ' Oh, how convenient'.
Yes, Pixar does not always get masterpieces: for each ' Puzzle' there are ' Cars 2' but such punctures are rare and often they are associated with sequels. And here is a new title, which at first glance turns out to be toothless, full of stamps and straightforwardness. Of course, as is the case with Pixar, in the end it all comes down to very correct thoughts, but said more than once in other, more outstanding works of the studio.
I am interested in understanding the context around the film, because it often contains the prerequisites for the creation of a particular tape. Discarding all conventions about magic, fairy-tale creatures, we will see a simple story about how a growing boy is ready to do anything to see his father alive for a day. This boy was the director of the cartoon Dan Scanlon, who lost his father at an early age.
No matter how simple it is 'Go' - this is first of all the personal story of the director, with which he introduces us, the audience, letting into his fairy-tale and unrealizable world.
The magical world inhabited by elves, unicorns, centaurs and other fantastic creatures changes every year. In place of pristine magic come the wonders of progress: electricity, cars, airplanes. The prosaic nature of life also changes creatures – many of them stop using their physical and historical characteristics. Magic is forever replaced by ordinary. But in one of the many families of elves (mother, two brothers and stepfather centaur) on the occasion of the birthday of one of the sons, an unexpected artifact of the magical world is discovered – a magical staff that can bring back to life the deceased father of two brothers for just a day. The dream leads the brothers on an exciting journey that is destined to change their own worlds.
Pixar cartoons are always interesting to disassemble from cover to cover, because each work of the studio stands out by the personal background of the creators, a jewelry verified story, skillfully set and resolved conflicts and, of course, bright emotionality. All this has an animated film by Dan Scanlon. Previously, Scanlon put only one animated film for the studio - Monsters University, in all articles inferior to the original, but, nevertheless, still very good for any audience. Scanlon took advantage of his second chance. “Forward” is the personal work of the director, who survived the loss of his father at an early age and always wanted to return him at least for a short time to feel a moment of love and fatherly warmth. Fortunately, art made it possible to realize dreams on the screen in the form of an extremely original cartoon.
“Forward”, like any other project of the studio, has a flexible and complex problem, not inherent in most cartoons. The decision to create a story based on a disturbing, uncomfortable theme – death, loss of a loved one, family trauma – is just an example of Pixar’s courage, which is usually praised. The picture of Scanlon does not have animated poetics, and breaks out in “Vall-e”, “Ratatua”, “The Secret of Coco” or “Up”. “Forward” is rather a more meaningful version of “Indiana Jones” for young viewers entering the path of transition.
The main task of the authors in the context of the risk of incompatibility of problems and the target audience is the creation of readable conflicts, vivid images of heroes and the world around them. In fact, this is the key competence of Pixar – strong storytelling and colossal work on the world. Perhaps any other studio, creating such a magical world filled with all possible magical creatures and legends, would stop there and build a story in such a framework. But Pixar goes further - brings the magical world closer to the viewer with the help of everyday life and behavior. Thus, viewers can easily associate themselves with heroes. Such changes in the magical world echo the growing up of children, whose lives are filled with routine and new, increasingly complex problems, and the magic of childhood like sand falls through your fingers. It is on the basis of growing up that rival conflicts arise between brothers, but a common goal always becomes an incentive for the unification and final choice of the main characters. Choice of touching. Keeping up with the textbook. It traces a bright line of character development with several markers, each of which forms a holistic and very cute family story.
“Forward” can already be considered one of the main contenders for the Oscars next year. Potentially interfere can the next project of the studio - the cartoon "Soul" Pixar genius Pete Docter. However, the absurdist road-movie with elves in the ordinary magical world will definitely find a response from viewers around the world and impose a fight for awards in the award film season.
8 out of 10
The midnight gathering continues! (However, there is reason to believe that they will end soon – very sadly, but I will write about it some other time.) And so, while there is time, let’s pay attention to the cartoon “Onward”, released on screens in 2020.
Critics he, judging by the reviews, liked, but a decent cash register did not have time to collect because of the pandemic, so we will not see a sequel ... (Although the latter may be for the better.)
The youngest in the family of elves Ian on his sixteenth birthday is given a gift from a long-dead father, who bequeathed to open this gift only after both sons are equal to sixteen. The staff, a father’s gift, turns out to be magical, and after reading the spell, Ian manages to bring his father back to life – but only half (literally!), so now the Elf Brothers need to find the missing artifact to “fix” the magic pole and finally recognize his own father, who left the world during their childhood.
From a philosophical point of view, there are two interesting points: according to the prologue, the world was filled with magic, and elves, dwarves, centaurs, fairies – knew how to magic; but learning witchcraft, alas, is hard and long, and fabulous creatures, ontologically very similar to people, seeing the charms and conveniences of scientific progress, moved away from the “golden” age of premodern and became carriers of the European modernist Dasein. So magic died, giving way to "magical" toys-whistles. This voiceover is explained to us at the very beginning of the cartoon; after such an introduction, I was tormented by some indistinct feeling in the spirit of “somewhere has already been.” The epiphany came, turning into an article by Yevgeny Abdullayev (candidate of philosophical sciences, by the way):
“Today, the alliance with science is less honorable — science itself, paradoxically, is increasingly being supplanted by technology. And “the technology of life,” says Umberto Eco, “is in no way equivalent to science.” It is identical, if you will, with magic. Magic means believing that one can jump from cause to effect by omitting the intermediate process. Magic is when one does not show a long chain of effects and causes, and especially when one does not try to test the chain by repeated experiments.
Perhaps in the twilight of this “new magic” philosophy should no longer be interested in an alliance with science, but science in an alliance with philosophy. Moreover, the latter should appear not in the form of an ideological framework or methodological “addition”, but as an autonomous field of reflection and criticism, on which modern “idols of the market” would be identified and dispelled.
But back to our elves. The life shown in “Onward” is modern, technological, it has high schools and teenagers with tablets, car services and all sorts of eateries with chips and soda; the adult viewer may think a mythological component (children, as usual, are smarter here): Barley and Ian elves, fairies in leather jackets on motorcycles, the manticore of Korea. But in fact, if you think about it, there is no contradiction in the fact that an elf, a magical creature, drives a car - the highest degree of modern magic. Therefore, both the staff, and spells, and witchcraft tricks, which the younger of the brothers learns to resurrect his father, look, without exaggeration, extremely organic against the background of a high-tech, but anti-scientific in its essence, animated world, so reminiscent of our own. It's curious how technology, which doesn't need to be understood, which is given to everyone with ease, but let go with difficulty, changes places with real magic, which, as you remember from the beginning, you had to learn and not everyone had the ability to do. (The sacred sorcery of the premodern and the magic of the postmodern, mixing, create the atmosphere of the film.)
Most of all, I liked the scene where Barley, the eldest of the Elven brothers, starts his van Guinevere (yes, he really called his car), clamps the gas pedal with a stone, says goodbye to a faithful friend, and Guinevere, under “Rise to Valhalla”, jumps to the inevitable doom. A ray of the sun falls on board the iron giant, illuminating the winged horse. Guinevere falls, showered with stones of a collapsed rock. The epicity of the scene makes you press your right hand against your temple and, clenching your lips, keep a respectful silence.
So, concluding this review, I can say that “Forward” in its content, plot and sacred meaning is rather “back”, well, or forward, but after a 180-degree turn, in the spirit of traditionalist revolutions. The film is about simulacrum-magism and true magic, how to become a man without a father, and, of course, about the difficult but very important relationship of the older and younger.
The main thing is that it is not:
“Brothers shall fight | and fell each other,
And sisters sons | shall kinship stain;
Hard is it on earth, | with mighty whoredom;
Axe-time, sword-time, | shields are sundered,
Wind-time, wolf-time, | ere the world falls;
Nor ever shall men | each other spare.
Sometimes people are extremely inattentive, and sometimes completely blind - we do not notice what surrounds us, what fills this life with meaning and makes it better day by day, and in the pursuit of a dream or idea we can lose the thin thread that binds us to reality.
'Forward' is an amazingly beautiful story filled with a spirit of adventure, dizzying wanderings and vivid emotions, capable of more than twisting into this rapid whirlpool of events.
Travel is one of the best things that exist today, whether it is a short trip or a long expedition, each of these is able to discover a person from a new, previously unknown side.
We enter a world once inhabited by magical creatures and the word 'magic' was not a miraculous echo of the past. The main character is a guy named Ian, whose self-doubt and stiffness create a number of obstacles for communicating with his peers, even with his own brother. However, Ian is extremely talented, and life is so insidious that it gives him an incredible chance to reveal his talent, overcome accumulated fears and phobias, and plunge into such a mysterious coincidence. A loyal ally, as well as part-time and driver, is Ian's brother, Barley is a very brave and brave character, a great lover of quests and retro cars. Together they will have to go through many difficulties that will meet them on the way, but the journey will temper their character, making them real friends, heroes and saviors.
The picture forms a number of life attitudes and condemns many human vices. Among the main ideas, so clearly outlined in the course of the picture, the themes of family and friendship appear. Family values are the basis on which the whole story rests, it is a kind of framework that skillfully fits into a children's cartoon. Family . There is so much in this word: it is a strong friendship, time-tested, and love, loyalty and honesty, which will envy anyone deprived of such opportunities.
The topics of relations between family members, especially the relationship between brothers, are most fully disclosed, and the time spent on the road tests their friendship for strength more than once.
'Forward' is the personification of kindness with a slight admixture of humor and tenderness. Such stories deserve a place in the best ranks of cartoons, because every minute of time here is permeated with care, warmth and tears of joy in the eyes.
Nice viewing!
How much depends on the poster of the film, did you not notice? I saw this cartoon many times, but I kept scrolling past it - some blue creatures, obviously teenagers, are driving somewhere, some small motorcycle on the left and a dead pony on the right ... ee-i-i? It's obviously some kind of pass-through stuff... sort of like a flying car trying to send some alien home. As a result, in the evening my husband and I decided to watch the trailer and immediately began to watch the Onward binge. Why do I write the title in English? Because the translation of "Forward" doesn't show anything - well, forward and forward, and what? Moving Forward would have been a better translation, both in terms of the film and in terms of direct translation. Well, about the cartoon and the poster - if the poster would place all the characters of the film, as for example in "Monsters on Holiday", it would be much more interesting and revealing - "this cartoon is about monsters, about adventures, here you can scold, I wonder what they will do here - um, we need to see!" And that I'm all about the picture ... in the cartoon there is both morality and deep meaning ... That you should not be attached to things, or, alas, to memories. It is worth looking around and seeing your loved ones, it is worth being yourself. It's worth moving forward. This is the exact opposite of the cartoon "Up", where for some reason an old collapsed house is happiness. Watch this cartoon and you will understand that there are things in life more important than 4 walls or 4 wheels. .
Like a lighthouse in a storm you were always guiding me
I never thought that I would ever see a cartoon about two teenagers going on a quest with the legs of a long-dead father for the sake of his resurrection, also authored by Disney (after all, Pixar, in fact, is nothing but one of the many units of the giant that has grown to incredible sizes). But it happened! And although Onward, unfortunately, is unlikely to become a hit, this will not prevent me from calling it one of the most outstanding cartoons of the new millennium, worthy of being called classics in the future.
The synopsis, to be honest, at first caused wild bewilderment, but after a minute I was delighted with such an idea, with its unusualness, courage (failure at the box office was, alas, a matter decided, and it is not even in the notorious virus) and, most importantly, adulthood. The subject of death has always been considered difficult, and somewhere, and in a children's cartoon, it seems to have nothing to do. If it does appear, it is as if veiled or in passing (in & #39; The Secret of Coco' death is shown only as a transition to another world, a world almost more vivid than ours). Here everything is built on it, while it is done as absurd as possible: in the form of a quest for 2.5 people (pardon, elf) according to ' places of magical glory' once teeming with an unusual beast of the area. The awkward comedy of the tie-up and the subsequent jokes, however, do not blind the viewer, and the main character constantly nervously gazing at the watch reminds us that the stakes are higher than ever: after all, the long-awaited meeting with his father, whom 16-year-old Ian looked up to all his life, even without ever seeing him, is at stake. Touching 'Go' adds the fact that for all its fantasy it is based on a very real story of one of the creators, whose father died when he was only a year old.
Speaking of touching. The sick director, as for me, did not plan to put pressure on and Onward (at least I) was not noticed in attempts to squeeze tears - although everything seemed to have this in mind. The theme of family has been played out many times in cartoons: yes, appreciate loved ones and, not forgetting those who have left, do not forget those who have been there all this time; but here it is done in a special way, besides, successfully intertwining with other ideas. I would say that the main message of the cartoon is that we don’t always get what we want. The opportunity to make the right choice is still in our hands. The ending was quite unexpected and life-long hurtful (I’m glad the industry came to such finals), although it was very warm. Just as incredible pleasure brought the search for all the guns laid at the beginning of the cartoon and one way or another shot each in its time: no action was not in vain, not a single thrown fact was not wasted. This proves once again how much work and thought was put into this project. What to say about the numerous allusions to modern society.
I hope that someday we will find the magic within us. In the meantime
In the passiva of Pixar studio, wonderful in every sense, there are very few box office failures that surprise both studio bosses and ordinary viewers. But if 'Cars 2' and 'The Good Dinosaur' were frankly mediocre projects that are forgotten almost as soon as the viewing ends, then ' Forward' turned out to be a very interesting and soulful cartoon. He may have over-budgetted $200 million, and the rollout came at the beginning of a global pandemic, and it caused unsatisfactory, even catastrophic box office figures, but the story turned out beautiful.
Director Dan Scanlon shows us a fictional world with two moons, where real magic once existed. Elves, trolls and centaurs had the ability to do magic and could do incredible things. But over time, science, which is much easier to control than magic, replaced miracles. Then many generations passed and the magic craft finally turned into a long-standing legend.
The main story ' Forward' takes place in our time. The main characters of the story are insecure schoolboy Ian and his brother Barley, obsessed with board games. One day, on Ian's birthday, my mom finally got the opportunity to give my sons a staff belonging to their late father. Apparently, this is a magical artifact, with the help of which the Pope can be briefly returned to our world. But in order for this to happen, you need to go a long way, which means there is nothing to pull forward.
As the director said, he experienced the loss of his father very much and his cartoon wanted to show how difficult it is and why it is worth pulling yourself together and coping with a disaster, no matter how difficult it was. In my opinion, Scanlon did well. Of course, the animated film is not the most brilliant of Pixar, it feels borrowing from "Monsters Corporation" & #39; and other popular cartoons, but if you evaluate the whole story, it is strong, dramatic and soulful.
Of the secondary characters, I want to mention my favorite Manticore, a once formidable warrior who sends travelers to a dangerous road. And now she, like everyone else, is forced to pay off loans and do routine work. The character turned out to be voluminous and funny, I would even not mind if she was given a little more time, or made a short cartoon about her.
' Forward' I was frankly pleased and I think that this is a wonderful story that should unite parents and children near the screens. There is nothing better or stronger than strong family ties.

Cartoons produced by Pixar Animation Studios are pleasant to see - it is a delight for the eyes, a balm for the soul and often - food for the mind. At the center of the new story are two brothers - as is customary, two opposites. The eternal gas and brake, one is not afraid of anything, the other is afraid of almost everything, one is optimistic about life and believes in magic, the other is a sober man, the winner of the Matan Olympics and he has no illusions about himself or life. It is worth noting that these brothers are elves, and they live with their mother and stepfather in a fairy-tale world inhabited by fairies, magicians, centaurs, manticors, etc., completely devoid of magic. The social consequences of NTP have a place in the fairy tale. Life is getting easier, people are getting lazy. Fairies don't fly, centaurs don't run, sorcerers don't do magic, children don't believe in miracles. And suddenly there is such a glorious gibberish, which is possible only in a good fairy tale. The brothers run on the adventure path, replete with bumps and bumps, and start a mind-blowing adventure.
Despite an absolutely impossible, slightly absurd form of plot development, the core, as befits a decent fairy tale, contains life’s problems and their human solutions. For example, the opportunity to spend several hours with a loved one is worth it to overcome yourself, circumstances, the very way of life. Or at a critical moment, take a sensual look at your desires and realize that what you have been striving for all your life has always been there, literally in the next room. Or give a chance to a stranger who took such tomboys under his hoof, and be pleasantly surprised. And try not to doubt his native man, no matter what game he does, and no matter what distance he leads to do this game.
This cartoon reminds us that the bravest commander in our lives is my mother, the most loyal friend is my brother, the most important problem in your life is yourself, but everything is fixable. And at the end of the picture, family values triumph and eclipse magic, for the real magic of life is brewed and sparkles in the family circle.

Pixar has not been surprising lately. The sequel to “Superfamily”, here, came out quite mediocre, although it tries to shock us with animation, offering to count how many villi on the t-shirt of the main character. Yes, and “Toy Story 4” receives a high score, and subsequently takes the Oscar from under the nose of “Klaus”, mainly due to the greatness of previous films. But cartoons are just not a picture. Content has always been above everything, and the studio in its new project seems to be trying to return the plot to our tapes.
Just as the main characters want to bring magic back to the world, the creators want to return good stories to us, and we want to regain our childhood at least at the same time. And hopefully it won't be a spoiler, everyone's good.
In fact, I may be over praising the cartoon after finally seeing the studio’s new original project from the time of the beautiful Coco Mystery, but I just want to praise Forward. There is something to be praised for.
Movie Road.
I try to remember at least one more cartoon, where the main characters would go on a trip by car, getting into various interesting situations. For ordinary cinema, the situation is quite familiar, such films cannot be counted. But for the movie, this is something new. The car of the main characters, by the way, also looks special, with a drawn unicorn and its own episode to music like Ennio Morricone. I hope I didn’t see the reference to “good, bad, evil” alone.
Love of fantasy and table role-playing games
The brother of the main character is a real fan of Dungeons & Dragons, as, most likely, the author of the cartoon himself. References to card games and quests in the RPG give its own pinch of personality, which reminded me a little bit of "I Fight Giants," where the main character tried to cope with tragedies in the family, distracted by the world of D&D. Beautiful fantasy atmosphere. Both real and desktop.
Family adventure
The duo of the two brothers does not seem like a supernova. Yes, they are quite typical brothers, one larger, the other smaller. One is serious, the other will find adventures that no one asked for. However, despite the simplicity of their characters, warm family relations loom between them, which, closer to the end of the cartoon, cannot but make us cry.
A world that can be changed
Heroes change as they go, and the world changes with them. Solving their personal family drama, the characters help to return to the world magic, without which everything is too usual.
The main character, here, goes to the most ordinary school, the scene from which I was madly reminded of “Monster University”. A little later, after watching, I looked at the director’s filmography, and it turned out that Forward is his second film. The first is the “Monster University.”
Even in deliberately urban landscapes and situations, you can see your charm. I will never forget the scene with the fairies at the gas station.
Result
Magnificent animation, in which you can see even a small wooden chip from the staff. Charming characters in an unusual setting. And, most importantly, an amazing finale that will not leave anyone indifferent.
The main characters of “Forward” remind us that in the life of any person there is magic if there are close people nearby.

Are you running out of sequels in Pixar? Apparently. The last few years, the studio has only released continuations of its main hits. It feels like the cartoon wizards didn’t want to risk making original movies, worried that new products would be hard to make franchises. Forward, California’s first original animated film since Coco’s Mystery, shows that the studio still has gunpowder in its powderbox – the legendary Pixar brand still defines the mainstream of animation and does not roll into the conveyor of children’s entertainment. Friendly, pleasant, witty and breathtaking - so familiar, but at the same time such a non-standard "Pixar" cartoon: the studio has earned the right to release such an unusual cartoon.
Elve brothers Ian and Barley live with their mother and stepfather centaur in a world where magic has disappeared and technology has taken its place. Their father died while Ian was still in his mother's womb, so he has no memories of his father, and Barley has very vague memories of his parent. On the occasion of Ian’s sixteenth birthday, her mother got a gift that her father ordered her to give to an adult child: a magical staff with a precious crystal. Ian tries to activate a spell that can bring his father back from the world of the dead for 24 hours, but the energy is not enough and only half of the dad materializes, so to speak, from belt to heel. The brothers go on a journey to find another crystal and make half-dad full.
“Forward” came out curious precisely in terms of the concept and emotional component. Animated films come in two kinds: those that exist solely for entertainment, and those that want to tell a meaningful story. “Forward” falls into the second category. Although the story follows the traditional trajectory of quests, which the characters themselves openly hint at, it is about the relationship between brothers in general and the ability of the individual to let go of the past. In the course of their journey, Ian and Barley learn important things like self-sacrifice, irresistible strength, and so on. Dramatic elements are as important as visual elements.
Moreover, Pixar, working without a "safety cushion" in the face of familiar characters, allow you to make a kind of film adaptation of a video game without a video game, but with a soul. Meta-approaches "Jumanji" is not enough (albeit "Forward" postulates a modern version of the traditional fantasy environment "D&D, close to the Americans), but the idea is clear: the characters go level by level and fight bosses. All this is seasoned with a moderate world building, which can be understood given the age of the target audience. Technologically advanced and filled with skyscrapers, cities and cozy neighborhoods willingly demonstrate their inhabitants: elves, cyclops, centaurs, goblins living in relative harmony.
From a visual point of view, "Forward" presents a little surprise. And the design is painfully ordinary: humanoids inhabiting the local universe consist of deliberately caricatured eyes, horns, and purple skin. The script and characters, of course, overtake the action. The more problematic aspects of the cartoon are accompanied by a rapid climax and several unclosed storylines: the obvious result, on the other hand, leads to a more subtle catharsis than one might initially think. In other words, in this part, Pixar did not invent the wheel, but spinned it quite well.
The cartoon turned out to be pleasant and touching: the idea to take a landmark on Zootopia, showing non-human characters in a familiar environment, was probably the best part of the project. In the world of Forward, wild unicorns eat garbage, dragons can be pets, manticors can own restaurants, and centaurs can drive cars. And while the plot of a fantasy adventure is quite simple, the story can make even adults shed a couple of tears: like "Coco's Mystery," "Forward" explains the essence of loss and death in an accessible way. Who wouldn’t want to do anything to spend a day with a lost person? An optimistic project gives an answer to this question: everyone should use more magic in their lives.

I am a big fan of 'Braveheart' and 'Frozen'. But I have to be honest with myself and admit that 'Forward' is the best feature-length cartoon I've ever seen. It took me years to fall in love with ' Braveheart' and 'Frozen'. ' Forward' captured my heart from the first viewing. This trip to the cinema was unforgettable. He was happy.
I was waiting for this movie and I was expecting a good picture. But I didn't expect her to be so great, that she would be so cool. It was a surprise against my mind. This cartoon has everything - an attractive idea, multifaceted characters, a fascinating story, a variety of episodes, a plot that is all untwisted and untwisted, even when it seems that you can not say more. Touching moments, inspiring moments, solemn moments, vital, natural, heart-recognized situations. Unexpected twists, as well as the expected twists that scream in your head ' oh my gosh, this is coming, I feel, yeah!'. An interesting world, for the sake of which I want to review.
Perhaps there are a couple of episodes that, when revised, will seem boring to me. I also don’t like the importance of blood kinship in general (although the cartoon certainly shows the importance of kinship in a completely different way). But this is definitely a movie that I recommend to everyone and which occupies a special place among the three thousand films I have seen.

That's what the plus of quarantine is that now you can watch movies, animated tapes and TV shows to which you did not get your hands. In my list 'must see' just listed animated picture 'Forward'. Why? Too many good things have been read and heard about him. And as it turned out, not in vain ...
The authors have created a world where magical creatures and magic coexist peacefully with scientific progress and invention. The most interesting thing is that it is the second that displaces the first and magic is out of business. The story tells us about an insecure teenage elf who wants to make friends with his peers and become brave as a father he never knew. His biggest dream is to meet a parent who died before his son was born. Our main character lives with his mother - she is (morally and physically) a strong woman and an older brother who has taken academic leave and is not interested in anything but board games based on magical stories and his rusty vans. With them still lives stepfather centaur, who personally annoyed me as a character with his actions. So, on the birthday of the main character has the opportunity to bring his father back to life for one day. It turned out that the teenage elf has magical powers. In order to get their parents back, the main character and his older brother go on a crazy adventure for a magical crystal that is not so easy to get.
Overall, the picture is very good. Well-designed graphics. Good, good humor. Raising important topics such as: the relationship between close relatives (particularly between two brothers), the need to remember your history and roots and just do not forget about the people who surround you and love you. The picture is made relevant, bright and dynamic. I suggest you watch it. You can watch with the whole family.
