Released in 2002, Resident Evil attracted the attention of both film critics and fans of the Resident Evil game, and ordinary viewers. The first (critics) almost unanimously verbally “tore to shreds” the film and its creators, giving it a very low rating, referring primarily to the non-canonical nature of the picture in accordance with the game and the freedom of the plot. The second (players) were also largely unfazed by the game’s twisted plot and its free reading by the director (Paul Anderson), as well as the lack of key playable characters. Still others (viewers) rated the film quite highly and it has now become a kind of modern classic. And such different opinions have led to the fact that “Resident Evil” for many years is in the lists of the best and worst adaptations of world cinema. I belong to the third category, since I am absolutely not familiar with the game and I do not consider myself a film critic, however, I do not share the general audience enthusiasm for this picture.
The story begins with a secret laboratory. The freed T-virus causes automatic activation of the security system, all doors and elevators in the building are blocked, and employees inside become its hostages and die. Next, in the bathroom of a large mansion located directly above the laboratory, a girl with amnesia named Alice (Milla Jovovich) regains consciousness. She puts on a very immodest red dress found in the bedroom with an asymmetrical incision and begins to wander around the house, but a SWAT squad breaks in, after which they find two more men with the same symptoms of amnesia. Together they will descend into an underground laboratory and stop the deadly virus, preventing the mass extinction of all life on the planet.
To begin with, the plot taken here as a basis raises a lot of questions:
1. Why is the secret laboratory containing deadly biological weapons equipped with only a strange security system led by artificial intelligence, which, if any wrong move, is ready to block all exits and destroy all life within the walls of the building? When this virus was created, should not they have come up with a reliable security system at the same time, in which anyone could not break the ampoule with a deadly virus?
2. Why does this same security system cause amnesia in people in the mansion? How should this ensure the protection of the laboratory or why such a plan was conceived in the system at all?
3. The main characters spend almost all the ammunition before realizing that you can kill dead people only by a shot in the head or other brain damage, but even then they often shoot anywhere but in the head. Why?
4. Why does Alice not remember much of the film, but despite this, she, without carrying any weapons, constantly fights off the group in search of adventure to her fifth point? Where is the basic logic?
5. Alice and the rest of the characters climb pipes to escape zombies, but these pipes are within their reach and if desired, the dead could easily get them out of there, but do so. Why?
6. Finally, it is extremely annoying how the director plays many factors in his favor, which makes what is happening absolutely unrealistic. In particular, when a particular character needs to be killed, zombies can run and overtake the victim, ferociously chopping it, and when the main characters need to buy time, zombies seem to freeze and slowly crawl, as if giving the escaping character a head start and the opportunity to escape.
As for the cast, then there are absolutely incomprehensible rules by which the performers of the main roles were selected.
Milla Jovovich, who played the main character, never differed in acting skills. All right, let's be honest, with all due respect to her fans and fans, Jovovich is a terrible actress, the wife of directors (Besson, Anderson), whose hallmark in Hollywood at one time was a complete lack of shame and the slightest hint of modesty. Of course, now, after all these years, no one in the franchise wants to see another actress in her place, but if you compare her performance in this film with Kate Beckinsale in Another World, then the choice is clearly not in favor of Milla. Beckinsale really played her role, it was her talent and self-control that allowed the viewer to see her as a strong main character. For films of this genre, this is very important, and Milla does not pull on the main character. It is still a mystery to me how, with no acting or talent, Milla Jovovich got into many big projects (The Fifth Element, for example). Yes, I do not doubt, in her filmography there are worthy films, but specifically her role, at least one where you can note her professional abilities, you will not find. Unless you're a big fan of her. Alas, I find it hard to call her an actress because any attempt to play an emotion is ridiculous. Well, it is not given to her to portray human emotions, as well as to be an actress and that is a fact.
The same applies to Michelle Rodriguez, who played Rain, who throughout the film did nothing but annoy her pathetic coolness and the habit of constantly rolling her eyes. At this point, the arsenal of her acting abilities ended.
Male characters include Matt (Eric Mabias) and Spence (James Purfoy). The latter, by the way, in terms of the game distinguished himself best. And in general, somehow with the performers of male roles, the filmmakers guessed much more successfully than with women. Even Colin Salmon’s very second-rate character, whom Anderson will cast in Alien vs. Predator two years after Resident Evil, looks much more charismatic than Alice and Raine.
In general, Resident Evil is a very weak, mediocre and highly overrated product of cinema that does not deserve its high marks. As a horror film, it is absolutely not terrible, rather it is terribly boring and predictable, and for an action movie it has too little dynamics. If the first part of the film, despite the absurdity of what is happening, you can watch for the sake of “sports” interest, then the second half with the senseless running (or crawling) of the dead after the living begins to tire. And the fact that this creation received such high marks and enthusiastic reviews of the audience, and also to this day remains popular, does not reflect the general level of development of society in the best way and once again proves that with good advertising and active PR, the viewer can be presented anything and how you want. It is sad, of course, that the crowd succumbs to the “herd effect”, but this is the truth.

Resident Evil is a horror film that was released in 2002. It is based on a video game of the same name and was the first film in the Resident Evil series.
The plot of the film takes place in Raccoon City, where the main character, Alice, wakes up in an abandoned laboratory with no memories of who she is or how she got there. She quickly realizes that a mysterious incident has occurred in the city, and the events revolve around a sinister corporate conspiracy and a zombie apocalypse.
The 1st part of the Abode of Evil turned out to be very worthy, there are many reasons for this and I will tell about some of them now.
But, I want to start with the fact that this is the first time I watch this series of films, and I only played games.
So here's part 1.
First, I want to note the atmosphere and setting, this is not a simple horror and action movie is a horror and action movie to think about, to turn on the head and find hidden meanings philosophical currents, comparisons with the game and so on. The atmosphere of the film is simply overwhelmed with pleasant surprises, watching the movie can not even imagine that it was shot in 2002, it is painfully well made the film. I've been immersed in this zombie theme.
Second, I’d like to talk a little bit about actors and characters. Again to my surprise and in this aspect everything is very chic. The dialogue is well written, there is no Spanish shame for acting, and indeed, when you watch how heroes fight for life and fight zombies using different aspects of the instinct of self-preservation, you realize that this is what we call realism in films. When you watch dead characters being mourned and tried to save them from their last strength without thinking about their death or when you have to kill your friend whom you did not know before and became attached to him, but he became a zombie, you ask yourself a question: Could you do the same? This is the philosophy of the film.
Third, and in the latter, I would like to emphasize the musical accompaniment of the characters themselves. Movies rarely feature color among the characters, especially now. The authors are lazy to prescribe the characters and fates of the heroes. But the abode of evil was a pleasant exception. Watching the movie, you realize that each character is filled with its own inner strength, its own character, and the individual character REALLY has its own story. Someone is afraid of zombies and screams frightened, someone is also afraid, but does not give the appearance, and someone is steadfastly experiencing the blows of fate.
About the music here is also chic and brilliance, from the very beginning plays an incessant composition that you will remember later. The music really plays on the atmosphere of the film.
In general, Resident Evil is a fascinating and adrenaline movie that keeps the viewer in suspense from beginning to end. If you love horror movies and the video game it’s based on, it’s definitely worth watching.
Resident Evil was released in 2002 and was founded by Paul W. S. Anderson on a video game. The film, despite the abundance of criticism from fans of the game, gained fame and became a kind of cult. I will say right away - I have never played the game and I have no idea what it is, so I build my opinion based on the impressions of watching.
Raccoon City. In a top-secret laboratory, the unexpected happens: a sample with a powerful T-virus enters the surrounding atmosphere. The automatically activated protection system blocks all exits, turning all employees in the premises into hostages, preventing the virus from coming out.
At this time, in the mansion above the aforementioned laboratory, lying in the bathroom, a young woman with amnesia comes to consciousness. She doesn't remember who she is or how she got there. She puts on a dress found on a bed in the bedroom and begins to wander around the house, but suddenly a squad of special forces breaks in. A little later, they find two more men with the same symptoms of amnesia and together they descend to the underground floor of the same laboratory and they have to find out what really happened there and within the next three hours prevent the virus from leaving the mansion, otherwise all life on earth can die. . .
On the one hand, the action scenes, fights and shooting in the film look pretty good, even after twenty years with a ponytail. Of course, computer graphics are quite striking, but the film is not yesterday. There are tense scenes that can tickle the new viewer.
But, if we consider not only a beautiful picture, the plot of the film seems rather mediocre and unfinished. While watching, you involuntarily wonder, for example, where does the main character have the habit of wandering along the corridors alone, fighting off the squad, in search of adventures to his fifth point, without even having weapons, why do special forces fall into a stupor and at the sight of a crowd of dead people, shoot anywhere, but not in their head, when it is already clear that this is the only way to kill them or why, how zombies walk for a long time near the pipes in their reach, through which the main characters climb and do not touch them? But even if you don’t focus on those moments, of which there are quite a few, the general feeling of watching it is that the script was originally created for a short film, rather than one hour and forty-three minutes. If the first half of the film is cheerful and interesting, the second makes you sit, bored and waiting for the ending, because after the middle of the film, the running of the dead after the living and some stupid actions of the main characters begin to get a little annoying.
On actors:
Milla Jovovich does not raise any questions physically. She worked quite well action scenes, which indicates, first of all, her good physical fitness. But in terms of emotions, the actress looks unconvincing. Unfortunately, this is the problem of the actress, not the character. In memory does not appear any film with her participation, ranging from the most successful and even cult ("Fifth Element", for example) and ending not the most famous to the audience ("Faces in the Crowd", "Perfect Escape"), where it would be possible to celebrate her performance in a positive way. At best, she tried, but it is worth admitting that with all due respect, Milla Jovovich is persuasive, as a heroine of militants and the only thing that attracts her Alice is the natural magnetism of Jovovich herself, but not acting abilities. Unfortunately, this is not about Milla.
Michelle Rodriguez has never been particularly fond of me and I still fall into a stupor when I hear rave reviews about her performance, because she is not an actress. She plays worse than Jovovich but lacks her natural charm. The only 'emotion' in the whole film is the constant habit of rolling your eyes and making a dissatisfied face. Yes, and see Rodriguez can only be in the characteristic roles of “boys”, famously waving their fists and legs, but to call her an actress I do not turn my tongue.
Not bad played their roles James Purfoy and Eric Mabias. The first, however, seemed to play better. Purfoy is familiar to me from Solomon Kane and Iron Knight, and his acting has caused only positive emotions.
As a result, it turned out to be a good action movie on the theme of zombies with high-quality action and combat scenes, but with a limp and sometimes sagging plot. I can’t say that the viewing experience is negative. The film is really good and it’s not the first time I’ve seen it. Just if you compare the sensations, for example, from the first viewing in the zero years and the current, the impressions are very different. In 2002, not yet experienced the viewer, the picture bribed a beautiful picture and few thought about the plot holes or inconsistencies in the film (if at all there was this someone). And now, after twenty-one years, you start to take a more sober view of this creation, and if there were no other great films of those years that retained their relevance and did not change the experience of watching over time, I might not have been so strict with Resident Evil. But in reality, soberly evaluating Resident Evil 2002, I understand that the film, although not bad, but too overrated, there is absolutely nothing outstanding in it and there are other representatives of the genre and the film as a whole that deserve more attention and high ratings. At least that’s my opinion and I’m sure many will disagree with me. Perhaps one of the charms of life is that almost nothing in this world is based on the opinion of one person and therefore everyone has their own, which makes us personalities.

This film can be watched many times. I've probably looked at it 10 times now. I noticed the scene where Kaplan died. Then it turned out that Kaplan was not killed, but slightly wounded. These Jews even know how to negotiate with zombies. I remember a scene from the domestic film “Brighton Beach is great weather...” There Dzhigarkhanyan reports to the chief: "Katz is not killed, Katz is slightly wounded."
This film has been watched many times and has been one of those who has been neutral to the film. I did not consider the film a masterpiece, but I did not scold. For me, it was just a good old-fashioned action movie from the collection of so-called classics, which we in the company of friends sometimes reviewed, but their enthusiasm for the film I did not share. It’s been quite a while since the last review and I’ve decided to watch it alone. To my surprise, I was very disappointed. . .
Yeah, I'm not arguing. The special effects in the 2002 film are really good. The fighting scenes are also professionally worked out, which is commendable. But everything else. . .
Resident Evil is often compared to Other World. Although the plots of the films were different, but the films came out almost simultaneously, the heroines were similar in nature, both were commercially successful and each of them won a fan club.
I repeat: the Resident Evil was initially neutral. Another World was one of my favorite movies since childhood. But when watching movies, I try to remain impartial to the films and actors, considering only their professionalism, as well as the plot and its presentation. And with all that in mind, I recently revisited both films. And if after watching “Another World” I not only did not change my attitude to the film, but also imbued with even greater sympathy for it, “Resident Evil” disappointed me even more.
The special effects and combat in both films are simply gorgeous. But that alone is not enough for the film’s success, as these are not the only parts of the film. If “Another World” was created from the original idea and implemented very skillfully and originally, subsequently giving the green light to three sequels and one prequel, which together formed an entire franchise with its story, “Resident Evil” is nothing more than an expensive empty space with a beautiful picture.
The first 15-20 minutes really hold some intrigue. But then everything goes downhill. The plot becomes more and more banal, the actions of the heroes do not lend themselves to logic. All in all, a complete disappointment. Apparently, the director did not think of anything else but to pull out the film forever half-naked heroine Milla Jovovich. Tell me, please, is there no more suitable clothing than a red dress covering 15% of the body? The heroine wakes up in the shower (of course, naked), then goes into the bedroom and sees a dress on the bed (if it can be called a dress at all) and without hesitation puts it on, but it does not even occur to her to wear something more comfortable and practical. Although not... You can’t, because it’s one of the main features of the film. Since the plot is trivial, the director decided to break the jackpot with the help of expensive special effects and a half-naked main character, who, apparently, is not familiar with the concepts of shame and does not know what clothes are. But in real life, what kind of woman would wear a dress like that? And such illogical and stupid moments in the film are simply countless. And I understand, of course, that this is an entertaining movie, but at least an elementary logic in the actions must be present. In the next two parts, the plot is more meaningful. Surprisingly, despite the fact that in most cases the original usually surpasses the sequels in content and presentation, in this case, specifically “Resident Evil-2: Apocalypse” and “Resident Evil-3” turned out to be much more successful, especially the 3rd part. I think that the fault is that the director strongly deviated from the plot of the game, but he could not make his plot original, something the film definitely lacks.
In short, I do not share the views of most and many delights. My assessment:
5 out of 10
(for high-quality special effects, combat scenes and beautiful picture)
Horror movies are not my favorite movie genre. It’s not worth watching alone (as I often do). But still there are in my collection of favorite movies there are a couple of films that can be attributed to the horror genre. These are the first two parts of the House of Evil. I watched it for the first time in school. And now, after all 6 parts, I come to the conclusion that the first two were the best. Let's start over.
The scene is the Umbrella Corporation’s underground Ant Laboratory, located near Raccoon City, where the deadly T-virus was being developed. A sample of the virus was stolen by an unknown person who, leaving, breaks the flask with the virus. The Red Queen's computer kills all employees to avoid leakage. At the same time, in a house near the entrance to the Ant, a girl named Alice wakes up, who has lost her memory, but clearly has a direct connection to the laboratory and possibly the abduction incident. She and a couple of seemingly random witnesses - Matt and Spencer - accompany a group of special forces who go deep into the Ant to turn off the Red Queen, unaware that being in the lab is now deadly. . .
The film is based on the popular game franchise Resident Evil. Although there are completely new characters in a familiar environment for gamers, the film cannot but resemble a computer game: this is the main mission that needs to be performed in a certain time, and long passes through the levels on which another enemy is waiting, transitions to specific places are often accompanied by deadly puzzles, and the mission itself can change dramatically when you seemingly passed it twice as fast. This game structure helps to competently and logically build a film, which is only good for him.
In addition to references to the game, Paul W.S. Anderson adds allusions to one of his favorite books, Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. And explains this by the complete opposite of the plot: a girl named Alice (Alice in English) falls into a hole, finds herself in another world, in which she discovers a lot of unusual and strange things. Only this is not Wonderland, but an ominously quiet and unknown laboratory, where not only a deadly virus, but also those who became its victim are not free – namely, terrifying and bloodthirsty zombies! I think it was one of the first movies where I saw the dead, who hunt the living, but the living give them a fight. Quiet suspense, as the characters walk through the deserted laboratory, echoes the lively action scenes of escaping from zombies, shooting them with various weapons and fighting in hand-to-hand.
Milla Jovovich was the heroine of my childhood in the film The Fifth Element. And Resident Evil was my second big project to watch her as a fighting girl who could do anything. Here her character Alice from the first minutes of appearance on the screen is a mysterious person: because of the security system that sprayed a special gas, she lost the memory of her life and work in the Umbrella Corporation. This amnesia gives her an aura of innocence, largely because she doesn’t understand what’s going on, how it relates to her and her life, and what she can do in such a situation. But in the course of the action it turns out that she is a real fighter, fearless, purposeful and smart, fights hand-to-hand, shoots with all kinds of weapons, and looks luxurious in a red evening dress and leather boots. And that scene with a zombie dog and a kick in the jump is incredibly spectacular and spectacular.
The cast of the film is small, which gives it a cameramanship, even some theatricality with the unity of time, place and action. And many of the characters are very charismatic (with groundwork for the future): Matt (Eric Mabius), a seemingly random witness who, for lack of choice, is taken on a mission to Anthrall, but it turns out to be not so simple; Spencer (James Purfoy), like Alice, who lost his memory, kind of was with her in a fictitious marriage, but the relationship seems not quite a fiction, and their work and the events preceding oblivion are much more interesting than they seem; and the coolest members of the special forces squad - brutal commander First (Colin Salmon) and combat Raine (Michel Rodriguez), are equally fearless and unshakeable.
Resident Evil is a very cool zombie action movie based on a popular game, which in turn laid the foundation for the beginning of a very successful film franchise (the films of which were released with varying degrees of success). My opinion is one of the best films of the whole series.

The first Resident Evil is rightfully considered one of the best film adaptations of computer games. It is adaptations, because as a film adaptation of Paul Anderson's picture will not withstand criticism. But as a standalone piece, inspired by the famous series of survivors, Resident Evil of 2002 is a very worthy project.
In the center of the film is a memory-lost woman named Alice, played by Milla Jovovich, who wakes up in a huge empty mansion and immediately falls into the center of the movement with corporate secrets, special units of the military and underground laboratories. However, it makes no sense to continue further, everyone already knows what the plot will lead to, and who does not know - please turn on and watch.
What is worth noting is the atmosphere. Resident Evil transmits suspense very well, placing the characters (and with them the viewer) in uncomfortable narrow corridors, where danger can be literally behind every door and every corner. The tape in this regard is built very competently, trying to scare not only the walking dead, but also adding a little thriller to what is happening, a certain unknown that awaits the heroes around the turn.
The narration of “Residence Evil” without problems retains the viewer’s attention, knowing perfectly well where to catch up with horror, and where to give a break, slightly releasing the reins of the thriller. At the same time, the tape is good and the plot - the story catches up with intrigue, and the main twist can still be interesting to those who have not yet watched the film for some reason.
Action for the most part does not offer anything roof-bearing, but looks good within the ribbon. Although here Alice shows acrobatic sketches, which in subsequent parts will become more sophisticated.
Verdict: the first Resident Evil is a good, high-quality zombie Movie, which can be recommended in principle to all who are not indifferent to the genre, including fans of the game series. Of course, with the remark that this is not a direct film adaptation.
The first film that should have been the last. Then, in 2002, it was original, not similar. It was the first expensive zombie movie, before that there was only a low-budget thrash from the 90s. But as time passed, new parts came out, the films "Land of the Dead", "28 Days Later", "I Am Legend", "Zombieland", "Sean of the Living Dead" were released - the film Drowned under tons of sequels, allusions and parodies. The entire decade of zombies passed under the sign of this film - it is both his merit and curse. And now, by 2013, the theme of zombies seems to be fading away, no one shoots expensive films about them again, and the recent film “The Cabin in the Woods” completely put an end to this genre, like a nail in the coffin.
When I reached 2022, I realized that I had never seen a movie in the Resident Evil universe. In order to make up for the omission, I decided, of course, to start with the first!
Not being a fan of the horror genre, it is difficult for me to judge the superiority or shortcomings of this representative. Considering that the release was exactly twenty years ago, I also do not consider it necessary to mention special effects and directing, because, for sure, for that time, the film was aerobatics.
And to the question of why I don't watch or like horror, the answer is that I'm never afraid when that's the true and almost the only goal of the genre. And the fact is that from the first shots in a deserted house, among the fallen autumn leaves and with frighteningly fascinating music against the background, I really became uncomfortable. In anticipation of trouble, I seemed to freeze. So the subsequent viewing of this masterpiece was very successful.
Now the theme of an artificial virus that destroyed everyone and everything is not new, but then such stories were just gaining popularity, and the beginning of the cinema universe fell to the liking of not only fans of the game, but also just movie fans.
This is the Residence of Evil. It was interesting to see where it all started.
Walking around in an evening dress and wetting zombies is probably not very convenient, but Mama Mia, very spectacular! I was pleased with the image of Mila, who did not try to appear beautiful and well-groomed, but was naturally suitable for the situation when surviving! And my nerves are not the same, the dogs were very sorry. . .
Now let’s look at the next movie in the series!

I put five bullets in her, and she's still standing. How's that?
- Only now she's lying down.
Director Paul W. S. Anderson appeared out of nowhere, and immediately thundered with his adaptation of the mega-popular video game Mortal Kombat. The viewer began to realize that even games can be successfully adapted for the big screen. The sequel to "Deathly Battle" was not the most successful, which did not stop Anderson, who aimed at another game hit - "Resident Evil".
In the underground laboratory, a supervirus leaks, which instantly turns people into bloodthirsty zombies. To eliminate the threat to the laboratory sent a group of military, which joined the girl Alice, with complete amnesia, as well as police Matt. That's just the activated security system begins to interfere with them.
How many games have been filmed? A couple of dozen, if not more. How many of them are good, or at least watchable? It's gonna take five or six. The first “Abode of Evil” is one of them. Well, if you pull it by the ears, the sequel will do. Paul W. S. Anderson took a few from this bunch at once.
The plot takes a very long time to rock. Especially for those who are not familiar with the computer game, and in general do not know what this series of games is about, the director made an introduction about what happened and what caused the whole mess. I don't know why, but Paul W.S. Anderson suddenly decided to show it in great detail. Then begins the incredibly boring spectacle, during which I almost fell asleep. Too much dialogue, too little action. Only closer to the middle of the film is more or less scaling up and gaining momentum. Here only gradually begin to accumulate questions, the answers to which will be received at the very end, or even in subsequent sequels.
The cast of the film is impressive. Now these actors are famous and in demand, and back in 2002, the real star among them was only Mila Jovovich, who by the beginning of the zero had already managed to star in several blockbusters by Luc Besson. The same role became decisive for her for almost 15 years. You can say that she found her main role in life. Of the others, I would single out Michelle Rodriguez and Colin Salmon. The only ones who more or less tried to play, the rest did not surprise me at all.
Swaying from side to side plot comes to the aid of the visual. Places where history begins to sag skillfully disguised action. The makeup looks impressive, even though I've seen better. In those years, the subject of zombie apocalypse was very popular, so on the walking dead, as well as their makeup, I have seen enough to compare. There are computer effects, but they are few, and they are of such quality. It's definitely not for zero.
Does this movie scare you? In principle, in terms of action, the film is not bad, but as a horror movie. I don’t know who “Resident Evil” is going to scare. Since the days of George Romero, hardly anyone has succeeded. They are too frequent guests in cinema and television, as they were with vampires. Therefore, everyone is already used to zombies and it is clearly not possible to surprise the audience. And to frighten and even more.
I doubt that Resident Evil was conceived as one film, most likely the plans were for a trilogy at least, which in our time is a dangerous undertaking. However, he successfully performed at the box office, and later Paul W. S. Anderson dispersed Resident Evil to six films. Not all of them are good, but the very first part definitely deserves attention.

In the underground laboratory of a powerful corporation, a virus leaks that turns people into zombies. Only two were able to survive the incident - the guard Alice, who does not remember anything about herself, and the mysterious Matt, caught trying to enter. Together with a special unit, they fight off the walking dead, confront a laboratory computer and try to understand what happened. Alice always seems to know something, but can not remember. But he remembers how to fight and shoot, which in the existing conditions is much more useful.
That Jovovich is the main decoration of the film is undeniable. Not least because they show it mostly, pushing the rest away. It is here that she is the coolest, easily exterminating evil spirits, with which heavy-armed fighters cannot cope, and walking in a red dress among the cold interiors of the laboratory.
The interiors, by the way, are also not bad - they really work, pump suspense. Just now, people were working in these offices, and now there is a pogrom and crowds of walking corpses. The mansion from the game does not make such an impression - it is too little. A metro station (real, not pavilion) is just an extension of the laboratory. The same sterile cold and basically everything.
Nice and action. Fights, staged under the leadership of a former commando, are not so epic, but convincing and pleasing to the eye. What else do you need from them?
Everything else is worse. The plot only lazy did not call a copy of "Aliens" Cameron (who, by the way, appreciated this homage). Bend your fingers: a claustrophobic enclosed space, crowds of monsters, a special squad melting in front of your eyes (what spoilers?) Since the days of Aliens, this move has already become standard, the heroine who is the coolest of all. All this is reproduced diligently, with the utmost respect for the source of inspiration. Hermetic horror became a hermetic action movie - and all would be nothing, but the lack of its own face in the plot is too noticeable. A couple of chips like detective notes also, in principle, comes from Cameron's film.
With the characters it's even worse - some disclosure claim is only present in relation to Alice and Matt. But one is too busy shooting, the other is given exactly one scene. The rest are just functions. What happens to whom, you can immediately understand (especially if you remember all the same "Aliens"). The actors have nowhere to shine - fights and running through the corridors for dialogue leave not so much time. Only a couple of times Jovovich shows some emotions. Of the rest, only Michelle Rodriguez is remembered, who walks the whole film with the appearance as if everything around her was enough. Perhaps this is how she imagines the image of a cool employee of the special service. Not happy, in general.
Of course, for the militant it is not so important. The main thing is that it was cool, stylish, preferably not too stupid. Resident Evil provides that. This is not a bad, but far from a chic movie - just the work of a diligent student, sometimes not bad, but far from original. At the same time, there was a minimum of games, but this is a minus mainly for fans (and then not for everyone). For those who didn’t play the original, it’s just a passing action movie. By the way, it was advertised as the "Matrix" among zombies - somewhat arrogant, agree. The Matrix had original ideas, many charismatic characters, and serious subtext. "Abode" has nothing to offer. But the evening will brighten up well - and this is often necessary for us all.

Without denying that this tape has certain merits, I am still surprised that Resident Evil has held for so many years. The fact is that the advantages of this film characterize it as a sample of its time. Ten years later, this was not filmed, and therefore it is not surprising that in 2020 they announced the restart of the franchise. But if we forget about the sequels, what can we say about the very first film?
Although Milla Jovovich participates here (Alice in her performance is very reminiscent of the heroine from the Fifth Element), without her participation the film would not lose so much. The focus here is on the story itself, which we know is based on a series of games of the same name. Personally, I am not familiar with the games, but the plot of the film develops so that, analyzing it after watching, you really catch yourself thinking that events are taken from the gameplay and animated by the participation of real actors. This is both a plus and a minus, as some important elements are made in the style of the games of the time. Mostly this, of course, concerns the graphics, which even in comparison with the previous year “Shrek” looks too cartoonish. The biggest monster that eventually attacks the surviving characters, as if one-on-one copied from the game, where blurred textures are not so striking. The Red Queen is the most famous of the fantastic AI after Skynet. I wonder if they had met, what would have happened? Can you imagine a battle in the digital world?
But closer to the point. Of course, Resident Evil is associated with zombies. If you do not take into account the franchise "Night of the Living Dead", the title of the most popular franchise about the undead still remains the brainchild of Paul Anderson. Two years later, the director will shoot the crossover “Alien vs. Predator” I adore, but the theme of monsters, as you can see, interested him before. Each zombie in this film turned out to be unique due to the acting efforts. Crooked and straightened, with and without weapons, the revived dead turned into the same icon of world horrors as vampires and werewolves. And they are opposed in addition to Alice cautious reporter Matt (Eric Mabias), copying the appearance of the director Spance (James Purfoy) and a bunch of special forces, among which clung Michelle Rodriguez. And also Colin Salmon, who later Anderson again drags in Alien vs. Predator.
There is one more detail: Umbrella Corporation. Embodied by numerous conspiracy theories, Umbrella likely attracted half of the world’s audience to theaters. Maybe it all happened because of video game fans. One way or another, the first “Resident Evil” will be remembered for a long time in conversations about walking corpses.

- Someone gets information, someone just sympathizes. But there are those who prefer to act.
There has always been a lot of trouble with games. Now you can not tell which of the games was the first to be handed out, and whether it is worth remembering. For the most part, these adaptations are simply disgusting, and the "main screenwriter" Uwe Ball ruined things even more. There are certainly good examples. The same "Deathly Battle" and "Resident Evil."
In the underground laboratory "Anthroat" leaks a terrible virus that turns people into zombies. A group of soldiers, along with a charming girl Alice and police officer Matt, must infiltrate and stop the spread of the virus. That's just a huge "Anthroat" activated security system, under the control of artificial intelligence, and the corridors roaming crowds of hungry zombies.
Paul W. S. Anderson is the only one who more or less managed to mentally transfer two popular gaming franchises to the screens at once. Tournament MK (with the second part, however, not quite successful) and zombie apocalypse in Raccoon City. From Resident Evil, he was able to disperse an entire pentalogy. Some films from which became rental hits, and some turned out far from perfect. A change of director affected.
I played the very first game of this series a long time ago, but I remember that the main character was not Alice. Apparently, her character was specially invented for the film. And the plot of the original game was different, having little to do with the story told here. But some key moments still moved to the big screens.
The story itself is rather boring by today’s standards. But in the early zeros, when zombies were mostly known to a wide audience from Romero's films, it was a real breakthrough in the genre. "Resident Evil" and "28 Days Later" launched a whole trend of popular culture called the zombie apocalypse, which is still popular today. Now these films are a bit primitive, in plot and technical terms, but it is always interesting to see how it all began.
Mila Jovovich, by the time the film was released, had already starred in several blockbusters, and was popular all over the world. But these roles are already forgotten, and the Resident Evil pentalogy is reviewed by me every year. An ideal image for horror with elements of an action movie and an ideal choice for the main role. Also worth noting is Michelle Rodriguez. It’s not the first time she’s been in action movies, so it looks very organic here. The other actors didn’t impress me. We walked in the background like an extra. Or cannon fodder.
While Sam Raimi creates realistic flights on the web for Spider-Man, Chris Columbus along with Harry Potter spells in the stunning beauty of Hogwarts, Paul W. S. Anderson does not get rid of the special effects of the mid-90s. So clear and sweet graphics that even the eye cuts. At least in subsequent films, the series corrected.

The first part ' Residents of Evil' is considered a good horror film. In some places he is really able to scare, and in general keeps in suspense. So why is my review not positive, since the horror film is satisfactory? More on that.
Paul W. S. Anderson, inspired by the success after the film adaptation of “Deathly Battle” & #39; decided to go further and take on the cult game “Resident evil & #39”. And looking at the success of his last film, I understand why Anderson was approved. But who could have imagined that the director would decide to tear apart the canonical universe, and create his own, only remotely imitating the original source.
So, in the center of the plot of the film is a new character for RE - a certain Alice, a girl who lost her memory. And she does not have time to really recover after waking up, as she is immediately dragged into the whirlpool of events associated with the local pharmaceutical giant - corporation ' Umbrella'. Throughout the picture, the girl and her companions, forced by circumstances to unite for the sake of survival, must first plunge into the terrible secrets of the corporation, and then escape from them. It all sounds very interesting, but a person familiar with the games will somehow draw parallels between them and the film. And the inconsistencies in the details just cut the eye. If the film was called differently, and many titles were not taken from the game, then everything would be perceived much more cheerful.
The musical part of the film will please fans of the new wave of rock of the beginning of zero, grinding compositions and gloomy background themes in ' Residents of Evil' a real candy. Operator's work here is also high. Every now and then, such angles are selected that the work of the operator only wants to applaud. The film was made really well. Actors do their job perfectly, monsters look frightening (Zombie turned out very realistic). The actions of the heroes sometimes raise questions, but in general meet the requirements of common sense.
Therefore, my subjective assessment is less than it would have been had the film been a unique product and not a fan fiction, as I mentioned in the title. Don't get me wrong. The film is good by the standards of action movies with elements of horror, but as part of the universe Resident evil is a failure.

It seems like high marks of like-minded people in this film, but I did not "go in". Some teenage movie and everything is fake, unnatural, like in comic books. It's just that the special forces are stupidly going into a top-secret operation and taking everyone along the way with them. The question of why the computer (which was fully functional and operated according to a given program) was called rebellious and why suddenly it did not share data about what was happening with the head office, the viewer should not ask.
The pleasure of watching is very hampered by a mocking attitude to any zombie movies. Only the new-format Alice gets into the secret laboratory of the Umbrella Corporation called “Hive”, as instead of an honest desire to scare, she begins to punch a laugher.
Of course, it is nice to see how the heroine performs in the performance of Mila, how in this and other parts behave other not yet bitten, but even strain, if you understand why you again made up a horror story with zombies, well, it does not work.
Without describing the events, in order not to spoil the viewing for those who have not seen this masterpiece of Paul W. S. Anderson, we will try to understand why the zabugornok cinema is so addicted to zombies.
Firstly, the number of zombies can be any, and the massekit does not require any special skills - portray a relatively cheerful paralytic in makeup and that's all. And large extras, if you do without cartoons, the viewer can quite impress - it turns out cheap, but angry.
Secondly, it is very spectacular when close-up shows how the former person eats the former. For the unaccustomed and sensitive, at a minimum, is guaranteed to snap. No special tricks are also not required here, and chuckling and roars will then be added in the studio on voiceover.
Thirdly, basic fees in the States and Western Europe are guaranteed, because a rebellion from the graves is an apocalyptic sign. Well, the fact that often Zombak in the graves have not yet been, apocalyptic experiences do not interfere, and the obsession of the main part of the target audience with any jabbah associated with the End of the World, has a good effect on profits.
Fourth, zombies, even if still relatively whole, then in most cases very unkempt guys, which is a favorable background for sexy heroines in model tours: flaunting - do not want.
Fifthly, in the framework of scarecrows such as "fear unknown stuff" budget zombies is very difficult to come up with something else - experiments horror writers with the smartening of zombies especially successful can not be called if the enemy is deadly, but stupid, space for directorial finds without borders.
Here you can scoff, and terrify the audience, and prove that the characters are smarter than walking dead men and many, many more things, including the contrast of rotting bodies and the most advanced equipment, the latest words of science and technology in the field of weapons or cybernetics.
Yes, I need to say a few words about the adventures of the unforgettable Alice in the bowels of the Hive. Well... All the components are in place, although Jovovich and his body was enough, did not go on tours. In fact, she did in a number of episodes almost without clothes, which could not but please the responsive part of the audience.
By strict standards, films about zombies do not deserve assessments at all, but here you can also be generous, since the mass audience is again deftly inflated with a killer spectacle.

In the world of filmmakers bringing computer games to the screen, there are two big names: Uwe Ball and Paul W.S. Anderson. If the first - ruined more than one good franchise like "Bladraine", "Far Edge" and "Far Edge", then the second is its complete opposite. On the films of Paul William Scott Anderson, my generation grew up. We shouted, "No!" It's me, Sub-Zero!, "No, I am!" And five years after the release of Mortal Kombat, the director took on Resident Evil.
As a child, I didn’t have a dandy or a sega – my parents couldn’t afford it, but my mother worked very hard and sometimes flew to China for work. At one point, she brought me and Dad a real PlayStation. What it was, a new world opened up before us. And there were not very many games, so the real pearl was the “Residence of Evil”, and the third one. Before that, my dad wouldn’t even let me watch horror movies, told me that they make you dumb, and then we were so captured that we couldn’t come off and played until blue. And it was really scary. Now I'd be scared to play it myself, but then it was the New World. I have been waiting for the film with great awe. It’s the worst game in the world.
The film has a very strict and clear plot, it does not copy the game, but is re-assembled and clarifies a lot in the history of the series of games. This is a very big plus – we were presented with new characters, a new story, a new starting point and did it with great love and very high quality.
Later, it was in this film that I studied "cinema making." I’ve watched it dozens of times – the creators built all the locations “from scratch” – there is no nature – just went out and shot, everything was first invented, then thought out, then checked, then rebuilt and only then filmed. On the chart, apparently, a little lacked – monsters now look quite painted, but even in 2002 it was enough.
It's an example of a good movie. Each built location is squeezed to the maximum. Take only the mirror corridor (one of many references to Alice in the mirror). You could think of a way to kill the members of the team much easier - but then they got confused and made very tasty. And if for the genre of fiction - this is the norm, then for horror - this is rather an exception. Unfortunately, as a rule, the criteria for horror are fast, cheap and scary.
And, in fact, the world of the game is the world of post-apocalypse, but it is presented to us in a closed space. You feel that the world is in danger, that the virus is killing everyone, and this atmosphere is safe, not disturbed, although the action takes place in the claustrophobic space of an anthill bunker.
Netflix has started working on the series. We'll wait. In the meantime, enjoy the horror.
Resident Evil is a very strange picture. If you treat it as a whole, it’s basically a bad movie. This is mainly due to a bad script - the feeling that the writer decided not to steam up, turned on the computer game Resident Evil and completely rewrote everything he saw on the monitor, without thinking about the disclosure of characters, plausibility and common sense. For example, at the very beginning of the picture, the heroine of Milla Jovovich, who woke up after fainting in a mansion, is captured by a special forces squad ... and immediately drags her to an underground biofactory! Why?? I don't think even a clinical idiot would do that, let alone an experienced security professional.
However, if everything without the slightest hesitation was copied from the script of the game, such plot twists can be understood.
Towards the end, the film becomes a computer game. Zombies appear — they have their head shot off, zombies appear — they have their head shot off, zombies appear — they have their head shot off, and so on for about forty minutes. I may be told that it was impossible to do otherwise – I would advise them to watch Cameron’s Aliens and George Miller’s two second Mad Maxes, Long Road Warrior and Fury Road. In these films, the scripts also differed in dramatic simplicity, which did not prevent the directors from making whole pictures, and the actors from creating even in such frameworks deep dramatic images (Sigourney Weaver even nominated for Aliens at the Oscar).
Nevertheless, Resident Evil is not boring to watch - primarily thanks to the professional efforts of the director of the film, Paul Anderson. Anderson can’t do many things, like working with actors. And here again begs the comparison with "Aliens" and Sigourney Weaver! Nevertheless, a number of episodes were shot by him magnificently, perhaps even brilliantly. The first twenty minutes (before the appearance of the special unit) - the passage of the special unit into the underground factory, and especially the episode of security hacking, individual combat episodes (I would note the scene of the battle with the Rottweilers-zombies). The film does not lose pace until the end - however, Anderson lacks professional ingenuity for the whole picture, and he solves about half of the episodes exclusively banal.
In summary, Resident Evil can be defined as a mediocre mosaic of excellent special effects and brilliantly shot episodes. The meaningful connection between the individual scenes, however, is extremely implausible or completely absent, which is associated with the plot basis of the film in the form of a computer game. In those years, computer games were filmed exactly so, which, however, does not justify the shortcomings of the tape.
If I’m asked, “After what movie did you get hooked on the horror genre?”, I’ll say that after Resident Evil. My first experience with this film was in early childhood. Then I was scared of everything that was happening on the TV screen. After many years, and this is my third or fourth viewing, I began to notice that the film is far from perfect. Now I will try to give my opinion on everything I have seen.
To begin with, it is necessary to highlight the criteria by which we will consider and pass the final verdict on Resident Evil. The most important atmosphere for the horror genre, it is created by such factors or criteria as the plot, acting and soundtrack. For the subgenre of post-apocalypse or zombie apocalypse, it is very important to reflect the scale of the entire event.
Plot: We are told that from the giant underground laboratory “Umbrella” out came a terrible virus that instantly turns people into walking mummies “without mind and soul”. I want to say from myself, despite the banality, the plot is very interesting, it does not stand in one place, but constantly develops. Of course, the plot could not avoid the tick, but this does not spoil the impression, although sometimes you can predict the further development of events. Separately, I liked the fact that the film does not leave blank spaces in our head, as all the events are described in the next minute detail, for example, how the virus was released, which was a very interesting plot twist. It also describes Alice’s life, who she was, what she has to do with everything, and whether she has anything at all. In short, there are no gaps in the plot, there are no questions at the end. Also very unusual for the films subgenre post-apocalypse and zombie apocalypse ending, clearly hinting at a sequel. Overall, I liked the storyline.
Acting game is not perfect, there are some stupid and rash decisions of the characters, in reality a person would have acted differently. And so the characters convey emotions perfectly, you believe them, which is the most important thing. It’s not the first time the actors have walked in front of the cameras. All the characters, even those who were on the screens not very long, all have a history, all are personalities, which is undoubtedly pleasing. As for the names, everything is quite good, two of my favorite actresses Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez were filmed here, both beauties with the roles of Alice and Rain coped well, emotions and everything like that was on level. Also undoubtedly pleased with their appearance, especially Milla Jovovich in this red dress and at the end of the film. Other actors are not particularly famous, but despite all this, played their roles as well. In general, I liked the acting.
Soundtrack: Soundtrack is very tense, where you need to convey the atmosphere. He plays in the right places, not as an orphan killer. I’m not a big fan of rock, but rock sounds good. But I especially want to highlight the cult tune of Resident Evil, namely "Ost Resident Evil Main Title Theme" by Marilyn Manson. And then, and now, that melody makes you goosebump. In short, Marco Beltrami and Marilyn Manson worked with hurrah, these are the composers of the film.
Atmosphere and scale: All the above criteria are made at a good level, which means that the atmosphere is excellent, that is, memorable and peculiar, unlike any other movie about the zombie apocalypse. Also, the atmosphere is conveyed by the underground laboratory itself, when they come there and go inside all over the body, goosebumps begin to go, the laboratory is just amazing, there are no words in the world to describe it. Each office is designed to every detail. As for the scale, despite the fact that the whole film takes place in the laboratory, the scale is felt, and especially at the end.
Thus, Resident Evil is a worthy representative of the horror genre and subgenre of post-apocalypse and zombie apocalypse. Maybe I can’t write a bad story about this film because of childhood memories, like my very first horror film, but on the other hand, the film is far from perfect and you can’t call it a masterpiece. Most of the bad ratings are due to gamers who didn’t like Paul W.S. Anderson’s adaptation of the legendary game, because the game’s atmosphere and plot are completely different. But as a separate film that has nothing to do with the series of games, Resident Evil is a very interesting and addictive film work. I recommend a mandatory review.
I recently watched the latest installment of Paul Anderson’s nightmarish film epic, Resident Evil: The Last Chapter. And having lived through these six circles of hell, I am ready to write my own review for each of the films. So it's time to start.
As everyone knows, Resident Evil is a film adaptation of the horror game of the same name, back in 1996. The game featured an eerie atmosphere, complexity and plot that developed throughout most of the games in the series. It would seem that the interior of the abandoned mansion with its narrow corridors and dark corners is ideal for the implementation of good horror and people would see this masterpiece from the genius of horror – John Romero, but fate ordered otherwise.
Was Mr. Anderson able to realize the atmosphere of that "Resident Evil"? The answer is short and clear - not at all. There is nothing left of what Resident Evil is. The film adaptation of the cult horror game became a popcorn action movie for one time. And even though most people call the first part of Resident Evil the best in the series, I tend to disagree. Or rather, to supplement that belief. The first part is really the best in the series of films, but it still remains a terrible adaptation, which should speak about the quality of subsequent films.
Plot. Not bad or good. A typical story about which there is nothing to say. An underground laboratory, an accident, as a result of which a terrible virus was sprayed, a team of special forces fighters who must clean up everything. There are no sharp twists and turns of the story. It's the same as always.
Characters. Similar to the plot item. Standard characters, half of which are just meat for a beautiful murder. In the middle of this ball of grayness, Alice stands out with her red dress, but this does not go to the advantages of the film, because Alice is an ultimatum weapon against all earthly misfortunes and this ostentatious coolness only strengthens.
Music and special effects. Well, there is nothing to complain about, the music and the picture are made at the level. Of course, cartoon liquor can be confusing, but you can close your eyes to this.
And, as mentioned earlier, the authenticity of the game in the film is not, except for the names, and a couple of monsters. But there's so much slack that you can row with a shovel. Bad film, created purely for the target audience, which has nothing to compare.
How to film the game - 1 out of 10.
I watched this movie again 15 years later, I was introduced to Resident Evil as a child. After the first view, there was a storm of positive emotions.
I remember the game and all the characters in it. Don't take anyone. I was a fan of Jill. This woman is a hammer (i.e. she is a real fighter and hero). That’s what I love to play and play at the toughest levels. And I thought, as a 12-year-old boy, that writers would film the story strictly by play. But that wasn't it. But when I saw it, I realized that the movie exceeded my expectations.
1 At first I wondered how Jill ended up in the mansion naked and there were no zombies. Milla Jovovich looks like Jill. It seemed strange to me that the plot was not like the story of the game of the same name. The accident occurred in the laboratory. I thought whoever did it was either Birkin or Wesker. But I was wrong. I really didn’t regret it later.
As it turned out, the heroine’s name is not Jill, but Alice. And she's not a cop without fear and reproach, but a typical lab guard. Plus, as it turned out, she was an unattractive character in the beginning. Of course, I did not compare the works with Alice in Wonderland and Alice in the Looking Glass, but later I realized that there are some episodes pointing to this. A mix of Resident Evil 1 and Resident Evil 2. All in all, Paul Anderson was able to create a movie similar to the game in many ways. The final really surprised me, I thought it would be different. However, how many times I watched, I never ceased to be surprised. He's unpredictable. You can't guess what will happen next.
I like everything, both positive and negative.
The main negative character was and can be said to be the greed and greed of people, if zombies.
I liked the military, both the chief and the subordinates. Everything is in its place. They are also people with flaws and emotions. That's a plus.
I didn't see any of the negatives, except the ending made me a little confused. However, the second part clarified everything.
There are no absolutely positive and negative heroes. These are real people with reproaches and shortcomings. And that's why I like them.
Paul William Scott Anderson has always been known for his inventive approach to making his films. From the very beginning of his career, the director took a course on the film adaptation of video games and to this day continues the usual tradition. Anderson does not strive to observe all the canons of the genre, just to please everyone and at once, but produces completely individual and independent of any serrated pictures, in which, of course, there are key features and plot moves of those games, but the “motor functions” remain for the director. Naturally, a significant role is played by the personal attitude of the director directly to consoles and consoles, that is, fan involvement and understanding of the subtleties.
Up to a certain point, Paul managed to cope well between his sympathy for Milla Jovovich and the filming process of Resident Evil, which definitely added to the charm of this work. Anderson’s platonic love and romantic mood magically take everything in hand, each episode with Alice (Mila Jovovich) has turned into an integral part of this fantastic action movie, combining horror and to some extent the genre of detective. In the corridors of a luxurious, but no less gloomy mansion walks only a beauty who woke up from an unconscious state in a red dress, with smooth skin, Slavic blush cheeks and an innocent mine on her face. In the devastated possessions, a cold wind slides, the director presses on the viewer with ignorance, which makes it impossible to assume where and why the danger will come from.
And after a few minutes, the viewer finds himself in the thick of events with conspiracies and terrible secrets of the large corporation Umbrella, which, among other spheres of influence, is developing a biological virus that significantly accelerates cell regeneration and thereby opens up new facets in evolution. But as usual, the experiments got out of control and not without the intervention of self-serving types who sacrificed the lives of many employees who just saw off another day at the research center. And this scientific center is right under this very mansion and in structure resembles an anthill, as it is called by members of the special squad who arrived at the scene.
One of the characteristics of Paul Anderson is the desire for grounding and the use of special effects only in the right places. Most often, Paul resorts to computer graphics when creating large-scale destruction, monsters, etc. It is for this that many love and review the paintings “Deathly Battle”, “Soldier” and “Resident Evil”. Many graphic solutions have already become obsolete, and the unique entourage and colorful characters are still kept at the screens. The courageous and uncompromising savage Rain, played by Michelle Rodriguez, was the 100% hit by the casting director. However, I also liked James Purfoy (this actor is like a mix of Hugh Jackman and Thomas Jane). Underrated actor, Colin Salmon (commander-in-chief of the special forces, who is not given much screen time and I still worry about this guy in the scene with the laser). Well, Milla Jovovich, of course, became a symbol of the franchise “Resident Evil” and went from a simple representative of the security service to the most terrible nightmare of the malevolent leaders of the powerful corporation “Umbrella”.
As a result: atmospheric, enticing from the first minutes of a fantastic action movie from Paul Anderson, not at all annoying even after the hundredth viewing. Experience, intrigue, characters for every taste and color, dynamics, entourage. A quality, entertaining film for an evening session that does not claim the laurels of masterpieces, but offers, just relax and enjoy the session. After all, there was a time when the genre of “fiction” was not implied by an overabundance of computer graphics, fuzzy and worthless individuals on screens, a decorative carnival and a completely artificial universe that “smells like mothballs” already during the release.
Biohazard in the film. Part 1 - Let the Infection Begin
Screening of computer games is a very sensitive topic. Films of this genre are divided into three categories - complete bullshit (hello, Uwe Ball), underrated and quite good films (DOOM, Max Payne), and those who manage to conquer at least the audience (Sylent Hill, Warcraft, Death Battle).
This film belongs to category 3. Despite the numerous nitpicking by critics and fans of the game series, the film from the creator of "Deathly Battle" won the hearts of the audience. And for a reason.
It is worth noting why the film was criticized. For practically, complete inconsistency of the original series of games "Biohazard". Starting with some characters (in particular, with the main character, who was not in the games at all) ending with the plot. So many decided that it is necessary to consider this picture as an independent project.
Well, as an independent project, the film is good and even very good. Starting with a plot that immerses us in a semi-detective-semi-horror with elements of an action movie.
The main character Alice performed by hot beauty Mila Jovovich, wakes up in the shower after a small concussion with amnesia, through which particles of memories slip. Trying to collect them in pieces, she reveals the terrible secret of the famous corporation Umbrella, which will mark the beginning of no less terrible events.
The detective component is very well intertwined with horror. The injection of suspense is great and most importantly - the fact that the film is not completely on the plot of the game, because you do not know what will happen next, played quite well. And then the action begins.
As for zombies, everything is done flawlessly. Makeup at a very high level, the number and behavior, as well as the acting of the protagonists make you believe in the horror in which they fell.
Among the actors stands out Michel Rodriguez - no less sultry beauty, also playing well. The rest of the actors are not very well known but there are no claims to them - all played well.
In addition to shooting with zombies, well staged and fights, which, although few, but they look gorgeous. Also worth noting is the design of monsters that migrated from games to the film - zombie dogs and Jump.
Operator work and installation is also at the level - the camera works clearly, there are no interrupted and cropped moments - everything is beautiful and clear.
Well, the music is also worth noting - well-chosen compositions enhance the atmosphere of the film, which by the way is quite creepy and tense.
Director Paul W. S. Anderson created an excellent detective thriller with elements of an action movie and horror about zombies. And while it went as far beyond the game as possible, the film didn't spoil it. There are a lot of advantages and few disadvantages to which you do not want to find fault. And that film started another Biohazard story that lasted 14 years. There is a lot of good, there is a lot of bad, but still more good. And this film can rightfully be considered a classic of the zombie genre, for its unique setting and excellent production.
The main profit comes from military technologies, experiments in the field of genetics and the creation of bacteriological weapons.
The history of Umbrella and its secret dealings have impressed me with the highest score imaginable. One corporation, consisting of a small number of people on whose actions our lives and destinies depend, this story is very close to the real situation in the world.
We are the experiment of someone out there, expendables like Alice and people who were sent there to the Hive, fully aware of the danger that this “secret institution” carries. In quotation marks, because this is a shadow society for “ordinary people”, but not for politicians who are like not in courses.
This part is the most posh. I never get tired of reviewing it. Everything is perfectly sustained: music, acting, scenery, plot, beginning and end. I can't help but look at Mila and not laugh, she's very funny at the moment when her faces are hooked, "Bond in a skirt." Michelle-Vermichel is also a very funny aunt, very much suits her role as a strong and independent woman. James is Mr. Bad Fake Husband, the money has stolen his heart. Eric is a man who dreams of truth, retribution, justice. In short, each character is a kind of mirror of certain groups of our society.
The film is terrible because under the stigma - fiction - it carries serious meanings and has the right to reality.
I did not play the first part of the game, which became an analogue for the film. I only played Resident Evil 4. I really liked it and, in my opinion, it is the most interesting part of the game. There is also some truth to it...
One of the best video game adaptations, the best and most interesting zombie horror! From the beginning to the end of the action in the film has a huge attention, in every moment, in every scene, the film is constantly evolving. Beyond this, it has a huge mysterious effect with a certain intrigue (which once again says that you can not take your eyes off the screen)
The plot tells about a T-virus that broke free from the underground laboratory "Amrell", the computer brain of the corporation The Red Queen decides to make a serious response - to destroy all employees of the corporation. This was a serious mistake, the virus is designed to restore dead non-active cells of the body. All the dead, airborne virus now come alive again... but without a functioning brain. They are now ruled by a single need - the satisfaction of hunger.
To disable the ruling Queen, employees of Amrella were sent to the anthill of the corporation of this "abode of evil". Together with them, a certain unforgettable heroine Alice, who must go along with them a thorny zombie path.
To delve into the teeming atmosphere, we were helped by the impeccable Marilyn Manson, for the soundtrack which you need to express a separate grace. The title melody (recognized by everyone) has become a kind of cliché and icon of films about the dead.
The film was very high-quality, and the tricks Milla Jovovich (who did herself for a moment) are certainly worthy of praise. Powerful, adrenaline, incredibly original in itself and atmospheric zombie blockbuster. The best in his genre!
Artificial Intelligence and Cold-Blooded Solutions
Paul W. S. Anderson introduced us to the beginning of the franchise about the virus and zombies, on the game of the same name Resident Evil. And oddly enough, for the adaptation of the game, the film was unusually not bad. Well, for 2002 computer graphics was more or less tolerable.
According to the plot, the virus could be released from the underground laboratory (Hive) to the surface, and The Red Queen (artificial intelligence) closed all the doors so as not to release the virus into the wild, and at the same time all people. As scary as it may be to accept, she did the right thing, but the question is: why did a group of special forces go there? This group found two fictitious husbands and a wife who do not remember anything, but in fact they are special agents who guarded the entrance to the Hive, and a cop who tried to investigate a case against a corporation that owns the laboratory. Why the squad dragged these people with them is not entirely clear, but the motivation of some heroes is then revealed, which slightly clarifies the plot of the picture.
Mila Jovovich played a girl who remembers nothing from her past, but then begins to understand who she really is, and what is happening at all. The Fifth Element star has done a great job and will continue to do so, thank you. I also want to note the star of the series "Lost" and "Fast and Furious"Michelle Rodriguez. She is as always in her image of a fighting girl and it is also nice to see her on the screen.
There are a lot of references to the franchise games, and fans should appreciate that. There are both ordinary zombies and zombie dogs, and an unknown entity. The author tried to combine the game with the film, and he succeeded. But whether it will be a successful franchise, will show the following parts.
First acquaintance with the famous Umbrella Corporation and the amazing Alice.
You will all die here.
Going back to 2002, director Paul Anderson created a mesmerizing horror movie that started the story of the walking dead, feeding on human flesh, which later leads to an evolutionary mutation of these devours of all living things - each time more powerful, stronger and bloodthirsty, leaving no chance of survival.
The cast and acting are all praiseworthy. Especially those who played even a small role, because episodic characters are also remembered. I liked the idea of the director, how he built characters that had a direct or indirect relationship to the corporation Umbrella.
Milla Jovovich is the main star of this film. In the course of the unfolding events, Alice very skillfully transforms her heroine from an ordinary, harmless girl, into a fearless and courageous killer over her enemies. Alice more than once, will know the horror that the Umbrella Corporation causes to the whole world. Milla Jovovich stunningly embodied the image of Alice, who falls into the soul. The image you want to see again and again.
Michelle Rodriguez looked very great in the image of a combat soldier from the special forces sent to help the survivors who are in "Anthill". Especially striking is her said phrase: "If I survive, I will go fuck..."
I liked and still like the original soundtrack of this film, which brings a gloomy atmosphere. Visual effects with monsters are very good - a slow and swaying gait, as well as sharp faces, and pounce on everyone - all to the place. Laser mesh, just a look. The holographic "Red Queen" in the form of a girl is very impressive. Deadly dogs, just delight.
By the way "Resident Evil" - a cool, fascinating horror with elements of horror. A movie that won’t get anyone bored. It really has something to see. At the moment, this is the best part of the world of zombie eaters. And I really want the last part to come out with a decent ending to this entire franchise.
The movie is just amazing. I've seen it many times. It's not boring. All the zombie scenes are awful. The main character plays very high quality. And the other actors, too. The scene when the dead wanted to eat a man who climbed up just a flight. The moment when the Negro laser burned the class, too. Well, the scene on the train is great, too. In short, the film was a success. Mila Jovovich is just sexy - a kind of warrior with zombies. Just like Helen Ripley from Aliens. The rest of the actors also coped to fame with their roles. The scenery in the film is amazing - the zombies themselves are made very qualitatively and naturally. And all these labyrinths of the laboratory are also terrifying. In short, the sham is on top.
The philosophy is the same. There is a struggle for survival in the film. From the last forces, our heroes fight zombies. That’s right, go ahead and sing. No matter how bad it is. In short, the credit philosophy in the film.
Resident Evil is a great zombie horror movie. Everybody watch. Including me. I have nothing to complain about – the film is amazing. Only:
