Vasily Sigarev's film "Country of Oz", 2015. I can’t say that he is one of my favorite directors, quite the opposite, especially after the movie “Top Top”, but here the genre was designated comedy and I decided. If it’s a comedy, I’m the Empress of China, although I was surprised to read it in some reviews. I will tell you right away, it was not funny to me, in my opinion, this is not a comedy, but a rather evil satire, however, I had some doubts about the signs of everyday life and perversions played by the plot, in particular, some coprophilic entertainment played by a stallion and his friend, as well as a bard - a fan of "tantric sex", as far as they are actually characteristic of Russians, it is difficult for me to judge, in Russia I have never lived. The main character of Lenka from her village Malaya Lyalya comes to E-burg in the hope, apparently, to change something in her hopeless life, from which she seems to be completely stupefied, because she behaves like a zombie. And here begins her journey to work, full of events and unexpected encounters, each of which can compete with the next in the wild. Strangely enough, the film is almost a happy ending. The actors were good - in the main role the invariable Yana Troyanova, Sigarev constantly removes his wife, besides the actress she is not bad. The film can be perceived as a protest against the usual traditions of celebrating New Year’s holidays and New Year’s movies on this topic, seasoned with a famous piece of shit and a lot of stupidity, stupidity and alcohol. If someone is interested in this interpretation, you can see it. There is a lot of vocabulary in the film.
New Year’s comedies are shot annually, both in our country and in the United States (they are more Christmas), and in most films related to everyone’s favorite holiday, the authors try to come up with optimistic good stories so that the viewer believes in miracles at least while watching their film. Perhaps this goal was pursued even by those mediocre, which on the New 2022 was born by the disgusting eighth Christmas tree – it is obvious that the authors themselves like what they have produced. But not all New Year comedies have the purpose to demonstrate the extravaganza of goodness and positivity: Americans in 2003 made a cheerful, but dirty cloth film about a Christmas robber who cleaned up large shopping centers once a year, working in them before in a costume of Santa Claus, and lived all year round on the islands, but once met an innocent child who changed something in his mind - I think everyone knows perfectly well what film we are talking about, and prefer to watch it necessarily in the translation of the Goblin. In 2010, when the 3D format reached such popularity that even dramas began to be filmed in it; a triquel to the obscene dilogy about two boobs, shot in this fashionable format at that time, came out: “The Killing Christmas of Harold and Kumar” also showed a very innocuous holiday film with a good hundred facs, drugs of different types and violence, but this film also fell to the liking of connoisseurs of frank and black humor, who understood and accepted the idea that not every New Year’s comedy should cause affection with good fairy tales that must happen on a new night. And on the New Year 2016, Russian filmmakers decided on their project, which should reveal to the viewer the truth that miracles do not happen, and in our “wonderful” country, even on December 31, any game can happen to you, if you are at the wrong time and in the wrong place.
The project conceived by this film crew, which is almost completely unknown to me, was doomed to quote and elementary praise from all connoisseurs of black humor, who do not faint when they hear an obscene word, and who are able to see the meaning and plot in “black” when it is there. All these advantages were present in the "Year of the Pig" released three years later, which, unfortunately, was not sufficiently promoted and publicized for the general public to learn about it. “Country of Oz” was in cinemas (I don’t know if there was a clamor, which is a lot here – it’s a pity that I didn’t go to the movies: I’m sure everyone laughed at this film). Unfortunately, she did not recoup her budget, but still she achieved her goal: amused the audience, who craves thrashing, frenzy and sodomy on the screen - there are many reviews written, which means that the audience did not ignore this tape. Perhaps the film in every episode is not as perfect as I would like to see it, but the truly killer moments here were enough to then remember all this and quietly burn over what you saw even after watching. According to one of my friends in a personal correspondence before I read this tape, the film turned out to be “Balaban-Tarantin” and when watching constantly there are thoughts “why so?” – I completely agree with this statement. In the trailer, the film was advertised as a “homerically funny comedy”, inserting some of the most witty moments in the video – but this does not mean that “all the jokes were burned in the trailer” – there are plenty of phrases and situations that will make you laugh from the heart, despite the fact that the whole film consists of incredible misadventures of the main character, who overtook the black stripe before the cherished night, and the further the plot goes, the deeper you know where her situation is.
In parallel with the line of pre-Christmas gesture, which is happening with a woman in the spotlight, we are separately shown two men who are having dirty conversations in the stall in anticipation of the arrival of the very heroine who should come there to her place of work and replace one of these men. What they are talking about and what vocabulary they are talking about is obviously a parody of Tarantinian characters (and maybe even Brother and the Driver!), and their separate line is not as fun as those situations in which the main character gets stuck. In the scene with a concerned old-age “shooter” we will see an element of porn, and through the peephole of the door we will show Svetlana Kamynin (the head doctor Kisegach from the “Interns”), after which the action will go to the apartment of a grandmother who hates the LDPR party, whose booklet decorated the door with her mega-strange descendants.
During the viewing (or, to be honest, rather after it, because while watching we laugh), the most conscientious of us comes to the thought: if only a small fraction of what happened to us ourselves to the heroine of the film (this also applies to many and many other comedies, and not only black humor), we would not tolerate it so quietly as she does, with a shaken appearance and fear in the eyes with the expectation of anything; and we would start to panic and indignantly – well, we would certainly not be laughing – but, even when Jason is engaged in such a dialogue, after all, what is happening there with a strangers, and is a man, and is a sin, because it is a stranger to us, and is a man who is now, and is a sinful man who is a man, and a man, who is a man, who is a man who is a man who is a man who is a stranger, and a stranger, and a stranger, who is a stranger, who is a stranger, who is a smiss? And if the comedy has a twisted plot, witty dialogue and still a hint that “everything will happen”, then why not?

Lena Shabadinova is a provincial who came to the big city for a better life, and even on New Year’s Eve. The search for a stall on Torforezov Street turns for Lena into an adventure with a lost dog, drug addicts and fetishists.
The problem number one is not funny. At all. Not once.
Problem number two is not interesting. The characters are plastic, the attempt to reveal them at the end counts, but still this is not enough.
Why Dude called it the funniest comedy is unknown. Again, the same situation as with Loyalty is the attempt to call deep and interesting what is not. Sigareva is very respected for the film “Live”, shot not quite great, but meaningful – above praise. “Country of OZ” is a strange comedy with an attempt to either ridicule or grossly humiliate the entire Russian people, and even show their helplessness. Made without love for the heroes, and without this comedy will not work.
Troyanova is my idol. For her and did not leave the film at the beginning, her heroine is juice. Although as empty as the others, but still a certain type is traced behind it, as if such a person can be found in life.
I’ll have to look at the chorus, maybe I’ll laugh. So far, comedies have not been seen well in Russia.
On New Year’s Eve, a girl from the tiny town of Malaya Lyalya comes to Yekaterinburg to get a job at a food stall. But instead of just going there, she is not very purposefully getting to it for almost three days, along the way getting acquainted with various strange people.
The main heroine is a creature weak-willed and uninteresting, silent and not charming, you do not want to worry about it, because she herself is not very worried. From the heap of attempts to typify the phenomena of Russia in images, one wants to note the only living person, not a caricature - the character of Gosha Kutsenko named Roman. He alone has a story (although simple as two and two), and therefore a soul, but the picture is not about him.
With not the best images, the language will not turn to call a bad acting game - it is at a normal level, although it receives constant blows in the form of replicas with a mate. Which, by the way, aspires to become a language of communication, but, unfortunately, it does not succeed.
Sophistication is absent not only in the characters, but often in the picture. So one thing justifies the other. You can see that the film is beautiful if you want, but the determination in this he lacks.
The film tries to fix reality, but does not think about its objectivity, here all the characters are unpleasant in their own way. What he shows can only be called reality in part, it is re-invented and hyperbolized wherever the author pleases. This is not the Wolf, with tragedy and decay within one family, here the whole society is decaying. But this is not blamed, as if something went wrong and it is necessary to quickly change everything or not praised, as if everything is going exactly as it should. In Wolf there is morality, there is the result of the fall, and here it is not, at the bottom for some reason suddenly there is love, but it is not able to raise something, and therefore passes without a trace for the viewer.
A feast during the plague or a carnival in the dark. A black comedy that hides a hopeless drama. The choice of genre is very successful. The drama itself would be too depressing and too documentary. Only through comedy can one want to see the magical land shown. Black comedy, by definition, is not for sensitive natures. The humor came out rude, angry and very high quality. The only overkill, in my opinion, in the scene with the failure of tantric sex. It is funny that, anticipating the reaction of part of the audience, the director inserted in the film a self-irony dialogue between himself and the viewer, as if reading the script. - What do you really care about shit? - That's not it. - What about? - About human nature. In the end, the indignant viewer declares a moral victory: “What are these values no longer values?” – and declares the victory of censorship. Only to the outraged viewer, the director, in turn, is ruthless. A character who talks about right and wrong is not suitable for the role of moral authority. He pronounces his tirade, sticking out of a window with a cigarette butt in his hand next to glued chewing gum. What is he doing at this moment?
Do not be deceived and do not hope that before you a film about the good and the good - behind the fairy-tale title hides a gloomy plot all about the same eternal human: self-interest, lust, cruelty, loneliness, madness, perversion, arrogance and stupidity human as our integral companions of life. About the same was the previous films of Vasily Sigarev, but the third time he finally decided to make a black comedy, not a heavy drama. Yes, that’s right: in the “Land of Oz” the plot is presented to us through black humor. And because the film (suddenly!) looks with interest, and after a while it wants to reconsider.
Lenka Shabadinova from the village of Maly Lyali comes to Yekaterinburg for work. Her task is to get to the stall, where she will be paid as much as 15 thousand rubles a month. For her, this is decent money, on which she can quite live and practically do not deny herself anything. But the road to the Emerald stall is not paved with yellow asphalt - after all, according to popular opinion, the two main troubles of Russia are fools and roads. With the roads everything is clear: Lenka has a long and dangerous way to the stall, and not directly, but bypassing – real heroes always go around to get into a couple of interesting stories. Here's Lenka the same: goes roundabout ways, and the road to her is regularly complicated by the fools that appear on her way.
So, for example, she gets to visit a pervert bard whose interest is to seduce Lenka and fuck her while his wife, daughter and mother-in-law are gone on business. To do this, the bard includes “rebel” and “romantic” modes: he tells Lenke about a Berlin patient and an unknown blogger N., and at the same time includes an unimaginably vulgar slideshow on his laptop to the famous song “My Sweet” by Yuri Vizbor. Apparently, in this way, the idiotic bard is trying to impress Lenka: they say, look what a prominent man I am, urban, advanced, modern, and also tantric sex I know how to engage in a very long time. To say that the whole bard scene will make you burn with Spanish shame is to say nothing. Do we recognize the character? We will.
Also Lenka accidentally falls into the apartment of an old woman who contains several adult sons-degenerates and constantly suffers from them humiliation. Here, by the way, the image of a woman intersects with the image of the grandmother from the Cigarev film “Top”: both women themselves untied their hands to their children, as a result, receiving high-aged bastards. And the women in the two films either do not understand this, or do not want to change, or are no longer able to change something and therefore gave up. Do we recognize the character of a tired mother? We will.
And if one of the sons simply tells Lenke that he would like to have her, the second tells his mother that he stole a tank (and her son is a tanker, but virtual) and the mother urgently needs to return this tank. How and why - the son does not care, and he hides his mother with the last words, and she only sluggishly tries to object to him with the hint of "get off me, my God." Lenka sits and silently watches these scenes from the life of insects, and when she dares to curl the word across - a sofa tanker ... however, look for yourself. Needless to say, how many such mamkin tankers divorced in our country with the advent of broadband Internet?
To say that the scene in the apartment of a tired aunt will make you burn with Spanish shame is not to say anything.
I've only told you two stories from the movie, and there are many more. You will see how Lenka will meet with a well-fed driver, sit in the detention center with snow maiden prostitutes, how she will understand that she does not know how and does not want to live in such a society (by the way, this is one of the most powerful semantic moments of the film). In parallel with Lenka’s travels, you will also be shown two people in the Emerald stall: a dull salesman writer and a former caretaker whose philosophy about the role of humiliation in human life is a concentrated misanthropic game that gives goosebumps.
There is so much more to be said about OZ. Critics and ordinary viewers have already licked (or spat on – Yin-Yang, all that) this film, and I see no point in repeating with them, and it will be superfluous to give you all the information on the topic. Generally speaking, I liked Vasily Sigarev’s third film. As I said, humor played a huge role here: you can clearly see how the director took successful finds from his previous works (dialogues, camera work) and at the same time seasoned them with an invigorating dose of black humor. Humor, which, as it seems to me, does not turn into mockery and malicious cynicism on a person, but makes the viewer laugh first, and then think.
Looking at a few films Vasily Sigarev, the eye fell on the name "Country Z", besides it seems to be his only film with the genre of "comedy". But the film is not really funny in the usual sense of the word. There’s a certain kind of laughter, like “sniffling.” It usually occurs when watching or reading films and books of Russian art house.
The action takes place on New Year’s Eve. It is usually a celebration of goodness and magic. There is no magic in Country Z, there is no embellishment of reality. The main character, silent and calm, repeating to everyone she meets about her sister’s broken tailbone, moves to her goal. Along the way, she meets different characters. Everyone, of course, is special in their own way. However, I and, I think, most of those who watched the film, sympathy can cause only that Kutsenko, as he looks charming, helps and saves the heroine.
It would be interesting to see another film by the director.
Lenka Shibudinova is in a hurry to her workplace. Meanwhile, in a stall on the border of common sense, two drink vodka, to the sounds of discontent of a schoolboy, and a crunch of bones, only this crunch was before. Before Lenka from the PGT Malaya Lyalya went looking for Torforez Street. . .
A sad and at the same time funny story from life. Gaining momentum begins to surprise with the color of familiar types and images. This Yekaterinburg on the eve of the new year is perfectly similar to any other post Soviet routine world. Any other city in the CIS, where the average income survives, and the walls are painted with advertising telegrams. Our familiar, sad world.
And the snow kept falling, and as if a fairy tale opened a portal on the ground from where unfriendly people flooded, and so they want to eat Lenka instead of Olivier, the new year, a time of miracles, and amazing transformations, and it does not matter that people turned into scum, the main thing is that the miracle will be truly in the spirit of metaphysical realism. In this winter fairy tale all is well, the new year as a sign of marginal. Who are these? Those who are happy to degenerate into life, we are with you. How everyday there are dialogues about perversions and philosophy of life. The arrestee named Duke, and the salesman, how it looks like sketches of alcoholic psychosis, but this is life, because I have met such people, and these dialogues, alas, are not news. For the New Year, everyone has their own form of miracle, albeit with impurities. Amen.
But the movie is magical. Because yes, as in life, in addition to the joy of New Year’s life, all CIS is immersed in metaphysical distances of horror and for the new year there is a minefield of stabbing, trauma and absurdity. It was in this whirlpool that Lenka Shibudinava fell, as if entering a battle on the field of the city of Yekaterinburg, with its colorful inhabitants. One Bard is worth it. The crusade of a provincial woman in her thirties, where the faithful companion is a dog, and the light of hope Kutsenko, and behind them on the metaphysical fields is the feast of Alexander Bashirov, who needs no introduction. For it is so tragicomic, and disgusting, that it becomes beautiful. Because this is me, this is me, this is a meaningless dialogue in the stall, this is me, a thought impregnated with beer, I am this, a shot from a traumatist on New Year’s Eve, this is me, a person without a name wandering on a holiday in search of a interlocutor. In the flood of snow and human abomination, we celebrate the new year with a tortured smile, because we survived, because this is our life, it is loved.
Vasily Sigarev shoots the truth and does it well. Sometimes - a little exaggerated, but the stick is rarely overstepped, just highlights ' the ulcers of our reality' stronger. Of course, those who are more in Western cinema will say ' Ew, where is art?' But I, although I have a very great intelligence, have a weakness for our films and some arthouse. Well, because it's art too, though. And you know what my standard is? Emotional effect and only that. Well, the price of that film or book, that art in general, which does not cause anything, does not respond to the emotional system of the perceiving individual. A terrible thing to say: I don’t like Fellini, Antonioni, Jarmusch. Because man, well, everyone has their own criteria for art. This is a very controversial thing.
And what Cigarev is doing is cool. Because he shows us our unadorned reality, like this straight takes as it is, a piece of *am with gold interspersed, and says - ' here we are, guys' And it is interesting to look at it, and there is a myth in it, and Sigarev’s reality coexists very well with mythology.
'You know, my sister broke her tailbone'
And our life with you, citizens, is full of sura, various strange and idiotic situations. The village of Bolshaya Lyalya (so it seems), a kiosk with two idiot sellers, etc. And it's cool that the writers paid attention to this and made it their thing.
Naive, stupid and beautiful movie that you need to understand. And to understand which is impossible, because, as they say 'The mind does not understand Russia'.
Beautiful music in the final.
The film is about the fact that in our everyday life there is always a place for a fairy tale. You don't even have to believe it? She comes by herself. Or fall on you, slipping on an ice slide.

One star I take off for some game with feces on my chest, which even I was difficult to accept. If it weren’t for this kind of tinkering, perhaps there wouldn’t be so many ' Fi' from ' aesthetes' and 'snobs' who saw this film out of the corner of their eyes and almost went crazy with Russian Hthony.
Yeah. Russian production can ruin everything, even normal jokes can not come up with. I do not advise you to look, it is better to go and review the real “old man of OZ”, that this is “art”.
Vasily Sigarev presented New Year’s Eve not as we are used to seeing. The picture is vital, realistic and dramatic, although covered with a comedy edge. Absurdity, which arises during the quest plot, can not be pulled by the ears, you perfectly understand that this is an accident that follows chance, again and again, ruthlessly “putting sticks in the wheels” of the main character Lenka.
Events constantly include the next adventure, secondary characters change this or that episodic situation, immersing the viewer headlong into this incredible adventure. The initial and final reception of editing, a quick change of frame cause uncomfortable feelings at first, but then become the boundaries of the tape, starting and completing this journey. Sympathy is caused by Lenka, her detachment, calmness and infantility smooth out all obstacles. All you need to get to a new place of work on Torforezov Street, but the plot of the film is just in the stage of achieving the goal.
As if Leonid Filatov in the “City of Zero” Lenka follows to the destination. Travelers who meet are striking in their unpredictability: from a drug-driver to a concerned family man-tricker, from a cosmetics saleswoman to prostitutes in the police. Each mini-story is instructive, as if the characters after meeting Lenka begin to live differently. Maybe the changes aren't special, but you're embarrassed by some people.
Yekaterinburg is a city rich in people, in which there are good and evil, rude and tender, caring and indifferent people. We see how each individual character passes through the heroine. No matter how they want to change it, citizens will adjust to themselves – the girl is true to herself and calm, everything is trying to reach the final goal. It’s funny that unforeseen circumstances bounce off her, like obstacles in the game that she bravely passes, but at the same time the value of the work (the final trait) is not very attractive. That's what's interesting. More worrying is not that you need to replace the store, but that you need to help a kind person, achieve their goal at any cost. Is it going off track and setting priorities? Answer it yourself! The film only creates a situation, and the viewer has to think about it.
I liked the hero Gosha Kutsenko in the tape. He is an energetic and charming man. Well, the wife of the director – Yana Troyanova – impeccably embodied Lenka, who went on adventures. According to the mentality of the Russian people, Vasily Sigarev inscribes vulgarity, alcohol, slander into the footage, but these echoes do not confuse, do not cause detachment, but, on the contrary, bring viewers closer to the simple, routine life of the residents of Yekaterinburg (even Navalny’s name pops up).
Good work by Vasily Sigarev, who was able to attract, surprise and reflect life through the prism of cinema. And, although Sigarev does not like Yuri Bykov’s films, these directors should be included in a separate list of domestic cinema. And there, Denis Shvedov and Andrei Zvyagintsev will sit down.
In this film, almost everything is strange, but at the same time harmonious. The character of Bashirov seemed superfluous, even if without him the kiosk would not have burned down. Churikova with her sons - pulls on a separate story by Chekhov
Not a comedy, but a social drama. The social bottom is shown, the sediment after the film is heavy. As well as after the series 'Karpov', 'Chef', the film 'Leviathan', 'Class correction', 'School shooter', 'Aniara' and so on. Such films make you think, if everything is so bad around, you need to somehow get out, how Munchausen to pull himself out of the swamp of despair, unsightly reality as it is. I want to drink a handful of antidepressants. Only one positive character, played by Yana Troyanova, is - ' a ray of light in the dark realm' among creepy people, not even people, but rather characters, especially the writer and his neighbors below, the sons of the heroine Inna Churikova. Here, compare, for example, with 'Moscow, I love you'. There is also the capital, also the conditions for survival, but still there is light at the end of the tunnel, people remain people, and here the heroine of Yana Troyanova is one of the monsters, all the time you think if Lena Shabadinova could get out of this dirt faster. I don’t know where to laugh in this movie.
General impression: This is the most unusual and unpredictable movie I have seen in the last 5 years for sure! Not to mention at all.
The plot focuses on one heroine - Lenka Shabadinova (Yana Troyanova), who is in a hurry to take a shift at a kiosk on Torforezov Street before the chimney fight. But she does not even suspect that New Year's Eve has prepared for her crazy script.
Everything! It doesn’t make sense to reveal the details, because then I’ll just merge the whole plot, do you want it? No, of course not. The plot series has its own special style, which is supported by a variety of humor. And I can say one thing, the mark 16+ still has weight, and the dialogues sometimes shoot quotes that can be analyzed, not everyone will accept. But still, this movie is funny! Which lifts the mood and envelopes its atmosphere.
The acting game has collected its facets of talent - Yana Troyanov, Gosha Kutsenko, Alexander Bashirov, Inna Churikova, Each actor complements each other, for which comic situations look harmonious, with extraordinary enthusiasm. But the storyline is thought out to the details, no wonder Lenka Shabadinova repeats the same thing. And in general, here every character is the personification of the people, and our people can not without mat. Perhaps this is why the movie is so simple and understandable to the viewer.
A few more words about surprise, the movie is so amazing that every plot twist knocked me down, I was like a little girl asking, "What's next?" And then? And now? And indeed, the further, the stranger. But! At the end, everything falls into place, and most importantly, Lenka’s New Year’s adventure ends. Want to see it? Come on. And tell me how you feel about the tape!

Russian director Vasily Sigarev, who has two good dramas ' Wolf' and 'Live' shoots a very curious and unlike anything movie, which even can not be compared. Before our attention, tragicomedy 'Country of Oz' is a film full of irony and despair, a sad smile and the reality of what is happening in the country in question.
You have a strange feeling watching this funny movie. On the one hand, it is funny, and everything looks with a smile, on the other hand, the picture is heartbreaking and tears with its truthfulness, not forgiving the obvious what is happening in the middle class of life of Russian residents.
Let's go.
- To the Torforesians?
- From the slide.
Yekaterinburg, New Year. Before us is the unexpected and exciting story of a woman named Lenka Shabadinova. While everyone celebrates the holiday, Lenka goes to get a job as a saleswoman at a kiosk. She is looking for Torforezov Street, and her journey to a new job on New Year’s Eve turns into a series of comic and dangerous events, a huge number of various acquaintances and the most extraordinary situations. . .
You, Shabadinova, where did this come from?
- Which one?
- Clockwork.
- From Little Lyali.
The storyline should definitely be praised, because the script turned out to be unpredictable. The picture looks hypnotic, and it is impossible to break away from it. The viewer is waiting for a cocktail of hilarious humor, which in this film was shown chic: firstly, all the scenes are realistic, and even a note of falsehood is not in the film, and secondly, a great game of actors, impeccably good, so the New Year's film itself looks excited.
The main role was played by Yana Troyanova, reincarnated in Lenka Shabadinova. Her heroine was a guide to the Russian people and on his way met everything. When watching, you are very worried about Lenka and more than anything in the world you want her to be good, and luck to her smile in life.
Want an unforgettable experience?
- And my sister broke my tailbone.
Speaking of luck, Gosha Kutsenko rises in the eyes of the viewer because of the role in this specific picture. If the soul of this tragicomedy was Troyanova, then the heart of the actors Andrei Ilyenkov and Alexander Bashirov, playing characters in the kiosk. Their story is as full as the female character's hilarious humor and deepest human drama. With the help of the good hand of the director and all these actors, an incredible tragicomedy turned out, which frantically surprised.
I can’t help but mention Inna Churikova, the elite cast of this film. It was pleasant and unexpected to see her in this picture, and the scene with her, personally for me, and the sons of her poor heroine was the most shocking and discouraging. After watching it, you are in a state of confusion. It was as if we had shown a real story, and we looked into the window of someone’s life.
Did they call you?
Behind all the humor and satire of this film lies deep thinking and great sadness. This is a film about the country of despair and fools, a story of naivety and fragility, faith and magic that can only happen on New Year's Eve.
'Country of Oz' - Russian tragicomedy of 2015. Vasily Sigarev’s adventurous film turned out to be a bold and vital film full of actual satire and truthfulness. I am neutral about what I see. Thank you very much.
Art is a very controversial thing in itself. For someone, it is expressed in those works of music, cinema or something else, which was enough to cut with the emotional background of a person familiar with the film, book and so on. For some, it is expressed only in works that display certain features of reality and, hyperbolizing them or implicitly submitting to court, discuss the theme of moral qualities, the normality of such reality. For some, it is expressed in creations that have somehow influenced history or, having withstood the test of time, have retained their relevance due to raised themes or manner of execution. Generally speaking, art can be different for each person, and I personally agree that there should be freedom of interpretation. And, probably holding on to this basis, I can agree that the “Country of OZ” of 2015 is also an art.
For some, but not for me, at least in part. Very controversial, I know, but as is. And it’s very strange, because the film speaks dry and unvarnished about the world in which we live. Like the viewer communicates with the notorious “Fool” Yuri Bykov. But he speaks in a much more serious tone. He does not play with contrast, and in his narrative manner weaved without difficulty. Whereas here, there's a little bit of too much that makes it hard to understand this movie. The film is not bad, but very, very strange.
As a society of freaks and marginalized people, the “Land of Oz” is like an absurdist comedy, cruel and truthful, but elevated to the absolute for the sake of accuracy of perception. Such a comedy, certainly, many people may not like it at all. But I'm not the type. I found such amoral humor really funny, at least in some places even to me was out of line. But, in general, the film left positive emotions, although I was a New Year's Olivier indigestible. Such comedies, strange, absurd, unrealistic, but in the scenery of the real world - the spectacle is very rare and therefore unusual.
This is a kind of meta-commentary on all the dirt of reality in which we live. Such comments are usually serious, multi-layered and difficult to understand. Vasily Sigarev's film is not serious. Everything else is the same.
He laughs with hysterical laughter, generated by extravagant misunderstandings, catchy phrases, obscene communication and impossible disgusting people who, to tell the truth, do take place. Humor is built on the basis of these quantities, at the same time forcing between conversations about self-sacrifice, love and honor, and about go*n, masturation* and non-trivial ways of sex. And in this forcing, I think, and it is possible to express the whole film as it is: it is a dialogue with the audience on the topic of the surrounding obscenity, something uncharacteristic for the civilized world, absurdly stupid and frightening, but at the same time causing a nervous laugh. And in this dialogue, between the lines, lies the fabrications of what is eternal in people and their lives. About our proclaimed values, about love and friendship, about happiness, in the end.
It is strange to think about this, remembering the most memorable moments of the film in the face of, for example, the prelude to the act of defecation of a girl on a man on the sidelines of a half-forgotten stall. However, with a little more effort, another thing is remembered. I remember the music, the beautiful and sad soundtrack of the picture. One recalls the dialogue between Lena (Yan Troyanov) and Roman (Gosha Kutsenko) on the balcony almost at the very end of the picture, recalls the finale of the tape, where the same Roman sings a song of his own composition. And there is depth in all of these details. Do not think, not the depth that they try to give a semi-intelligible picture just for the sake of appearing smarter than another viewer. Nope. Quite tangible. Simple on the thematic aspect and familiar to everyone. Raised on issues of self-realization and the desire for a better life in conditions unfavorably related to these very aspirations.
“Land of OZ” is a picture that generates the same laughter that a person throws out of himself only when he does not know what he has to do because of the strangeness, absurdity, incomprehensibility of the situation. It is a sad picture in its essence, making you laugh... no, nervously laugh just because... Well, what's left to do? And this is the question that I think everyone who has seen this movie should think about.
P.S. Thank you very much.
Lenka Shabadinova from the town of Malaya Lyalya moves to Yekaterinburg. Here the aunt arranges her in a kiosk on Torforezov Street and in the first shift she has to step up exactly on New Year's Eve. But on the way with him there are a lot of adventures.
This film is a New Year comedy with the prefix tragic. You might think there's a lot of black people here. Plus, they talk for the most part with a mat (by the way, it is advisable to watch the unspeakable version, otherwise the whole color of the dialogues disappears). But, in general, everything is quite vital and recognizable. The funny and the tragic are intertwined. And it seems funny at first, but the ending adds a depresniak. And many types from the picture, although caricatured, but recognizable.
Yana Troyanova, now better known as Olga from the series of the same name, played well Lena Shabadinova. She, by the way, is the wife of the director of the picture Vasily Sigarev. Her character turned out to be touching and cute. Not much of this world (in contrast to the same Olga). Gosha Kutsenko as Roman with the dog Dudey is also good. Alexander Bashirov and Andrei Ilyenkov created a good drunken-psychedelic duo. Yevgeny Tsyganov (driver under butyrat), Vladimir Simonov and Svetlana Kamynina (bard dog and his wife), Yulia Snigir (fifa), Alisa Khazanova and Daria Ekmasova (snow maidens) and other characters are very colorful and recognizable.
But the main masterpiece is an episode with mother Inna Churikova and her sons – sofa warriors. Perhaps the most memorable in the picture. And the guy who has a tank is something.
The film, of course, sometimes falls into episodes that are good in themselves, but the picture does not always produce a solid impression. And such a concentrated portion of black, which in some places still squeezed, in some episodes not everyone will do. But still the picture is quite curious and peculiar.
The mixed feelings remained from the film, but overall I liked it. He is not as slender as “Top” or “Cococo”, neither in the plot, not in the genre, but the final aftertaste was still light sad and hopeful, oddly enough. The music has become a separate character, for which I am grateful. Mat did not strain, because without him, the dialogue would not be quite natural, as it seems to me, but with dicks and feces still a little too much, in my opinion. But the dog was charming! I will never recommend this film to everyone in order to avoid excess hat, but only to those who feel confident in the framework of this genre both in foreign cinema and in domestic cinema.

We constantly see the same picture in which our people defend their interests, family values, healthy lifestyle, but in fact can not deny themselves in reckless actions that completely contradict everything they defended. How can a person who has not tasted all this get used to such a contradictory world? This theme under the sauce of folk satire was served in the grotesque comedy “Country of Oz”.
Synopsis A simple village girl Lenka Shabadinova moves to a big city in search of a new life and work. And on New Year’s Eve, she is asked to replace her cousin in a kiosk while she recovers from a broken tailbone and failed love with a Greek who threw her out of the balcony. However, getting to work, Lenka could not imagine what reckless adventures prepared for her New Year's Eve.
First of all, it is worth noting the amazing cast of actors, in which quite famous actors were involved in atypical roles and images. Yana Troyanova in the role of Lenka Shabadinova embodied the image of a typical provincial woman who moved to a big city in search of a better life, but saw the real guise of people on the eve of a national holiday. It was also nice to see atypical roles Gosha Kutsenko, Alexander Bashirov, Yevgeny Tsyganov, Inna Churikova and Yulia Snigir in the image of a prostitute ready to defecate on their clients.
Director Vasily Sigarev, through the prism of grotesque and hyperbole, gave a black comedy about the nature of our man, who, no matter how he tried to show himself from the best side, will definitely show himself with the worst in all its manifestations. The main character is a symbol of innocence, who has just come to this world, but already meets a crazy cousin and her Greek lover, a drug addict driver, a two-faced bard and other heroes who personify many negative aspects of our lives. And if at first the film really causes laughter, then gradually it becomes sad - sad because it is a truth that we are not trying to correct.
The script has the specifics of a road movie, as the main character is also on the road to replace her cousin Irka while she is in the hospital after her hated lover from Greece threw her out of the balcony. Getting to this ill-fated street Trafarezov, Lenke on the way comes across wild from the New Year holidays strangers. First, the driver is a drug addict, then a fervent "well nah**" performed by Gosha Kutsenko, then a two-faced bard and a hen heel. All these people make Lena wonder whether she should stay in the big city among people who do not care about themselves and how they look from the outside. Thus, from a satirical road movie, the film turns into a sad parable about the side of our lives that we do not want to talk about.
Result For many viewers, the film may seem rude and unpleasant, but in fact, behind all this rudeness and black humor lies the bitter truth. Gradually, the film you begin to perceive more as a drama than a comedy, because the path through which the main character passes is filled with meaning, from which you need to learn lessons.

On the eve of the New Year holidays, by an exceptionally coincidental coincidence, I watched a completely unexpected and absolutely remarkable Russian film of 2015 called “Country of Oz”. He remained so indifferent that he decided to concoct an SRSG review - so to speak, analyze everything he saw and put on shelves. And, damn it, I have not met such hellish, hilarious-freezing, original Russian metaphysics, perhaps, since the time of the Green Elephant. Only, unlike the same “Elephant”, this film does not go so far beyond decency, and the metaphysical depth in it was born not because of the successful improvisation of the actors, but because of a quite strong and completely crazy script ... in the good sense of this phrase. So...

The review does not contain explicit spoilers, but it is still recommended to read it after viewing, so as not to distort the perception of what is happening by someone else’s vision. Despite my interpretation, the picture can be interpreted in a dozen other ways - this is the purest art house.

There are two “hells” in every sense of the word—fallen lower beings in the mess that is going on around us. Both try to discuss quite sublime and difficult matters, but in the end their message is still reduced to taboo sex and feces. One trait is sad, dreams of dignity, and reaches for the light in his dreams, but has long come to terms with the current state of affairs he endures with adversity. The second is quite a harmonious trait, more than satisfied with his position and condition, even voluntarily and not without pleasure maiming himself, arranging for himself hellish torments beyond the norm of pure excitement and pleasure for the sake of it.
All the characters of the film are on their wavelength and, seemingly, speaking the same language - no one understands or hears anyone, to the last bends his line and tries to drag the interlocutor into his crazy reality. Separately, a scene is recalled when the finished devil wakes up a comrade who has reached in his dream “Nirvana”, where he finally became a worthy and respected aristocrat ... and the question of where to shit... It does not give him a chance even for a moment of peace and happiness. This friend (dream devil), which is important, describes in his diary cherished fantasy. He writes that when he met his wife, he saw in her an immaculate image of something sublime and all his life tried to adjust to it and correspond to it: he did not even go to the toilet at home without showing the “dark” sides of his nature, while his wife turned out to be a typical devil and did not even try to hide her nature, and her efforts did not notice. However, he dreamed that the bright face he once saw in his wife would shit on his face. Why? Because only in this way can such a devil approach the light nature of being, only through that which represents his own nature, because he does not know and cannot know things beyond his nature. And if the Light Face has descended to perform such an abominable, but at the same time close and natural act over him, then he himself will become closer to the light and get out of the darkness in which he lives. Or at least he sees it this way.
At the same time, the heroine is the most detached, childishly naive and, in a sense, immaculate and tortured creature. Extremely far from all the characters on the way to the ill-fated stall and unsuccessfully trying to find a common language with anyone. Coming from nowhere (there is no such place – Malykh-Lyaly) and going nowhere (the stall seems to be somewhere out of time, there is even alcohol in the day sell, although such stalls have long been closed and demolished everywhere; and in an attempt to find a street in Yandex with this damn stall, in the apartment knocks out the Internet). Along the way, she realizes that she wants nothing to do with this place full of absurdity and hatred, and does not reach the stall. Where she had been waiting all her life for that dream devil. That is, in fact, she personified his ideal image of immaculate purity - this is how he finally saw it with the corner of his eye on the way home, on a ghostly ship high in the sky, silently towering above him. Only now, while he was waiting for her in his stall, doing nothing, he burned to the fuck. She herself... although, what should I crucify, the final song will say for me:
Light smoke, I dissolve with it / In the streams of air, the breath of time. / Like a couple, we are in the dance of couples / The same windy - circle.
You didn't know anything about life / And finally lucky, / As soon as I became a haze, / Known everyone, knew everything.
The day turns into a shadow. / Night returns to day. This is how pain is forgotten: love. / And I must rise again / And I must rise again / But laziness, but laziness, but laziness, but laziness, but laziness, but laziness.
... And she would be resurrected in love, in a more prosperous environment, but laziness... everyone is lazy. This is undoubtedly an allegory for our country and local environmental conditions. It is also funny that the song sounds to the music that accompanied her throughout her life, but only now she began to hear the words. She quietly sings along, now she knows and understands these words, but at the same time opens her mouth silently - because she is already dead, there is no matter anymore, there is nothing to sound. It remains silent and indifferent to contemplate.
... That's it, country zero-three. Call me an ambulance now!
When I first saw this movie, it was January 2017. My friends and I were completely out after the New Year celebration. There was no effort to do anything but watch any nonsense that was played on TV.
And we were lucky to come across this amazing creation.
In the course of watching, we could not utter a single word: it was so awkward, unfunny and even scary. Some nasty, fat man with a bare torso eats dumplings, an underdeveloped buddlan punches his mother and an unfamiliar woman in the face, some crazy salesman from a kiosk dreams of eating poop and orally satisfying his friend ... Each scene can be listed in this way. The film is literally all woven from such a specific thrash. But the most amazing thing is that this thrash is so ridiculous, strange and absurd that it really provokes hysterical laughter and great curiosity for each next episode.
I want to say that if you think “Green Elephant” is an unshakable example of domestic thrash, then this film will dispel your previous illusions.
The film is unique in its atmosphere and the enchanting absurdity of what is happening.
And a special thanks to Hans Zimmer for the best soundtrack of his career.

Lack of words and unperturbed Lenka Shabadinova performed by Yana Troyanova on New Year’s Eve trying to get to her new place of work: a commercial tent on Torforezov Street in Yekaterinburg. This, as I remember, is very far from the city center, and in general far from anywhere. Lenka came from the village of Novaya Lyalya not to conquer the capital of the Urals, but spontaneously, as a flower falls into the hole. And then, like a flower, Lenku rolls through the festive streets, and in the tent, where Lenku is waiting for a changer, at this time, too, there is a celebration.
Profit in the capital! One of the classic comedy stories! “Lights of the big city”, “Zazy in the subway”, “Carnival”, “Mermaid”, and if you like, “Servant of two masters!” And, of course, "Country 03"!
Let Ekaterinburg not be Moscow or Venice, especially fantastic events happen in it, especially with drunk people, especially on New Year's Eve. Moscow is so huge that no one will notice the arrival of Lenka Shabadinova from Novaya Lyali. And the Urals are more attentive than Muscovites to small things.
But, of course, this film is not about Yekaterinburg, but rather about Sverdlovsk, the movie is not about a place, but about time. Yekaterinburg is different now, and we are different already, and therefore the country of OZ, in my opinion, has an undeservedly low rating. But the spectacle turned out to be of the highest class, at the level of “Chapito-show”, “Zhmurok”, “DMB”, and somewhat resembles “The Irony of Fate”. But the time of the gloomy is gone, and hopefully irrevocably. Yes, strictly speaking, who born in a market economy, now really like the same "Irony"?
“Country of OZ” is anything, but not “painted black”, which we all saw in the years of post-perestroika cinema. Yes, all the characters in the film are not Alain Delona, but Lenka is not Brigitte Bardot. And the audience is also not perfect, and every second got to the country of OZ at least once in his life. Of course, there are a lot of swearing from the screen, but it all sounds harmless and not offensive. It's like birds singing.
The film is not for those who were born in the nineties, and who got married in those years. Of course, it is made for us, the provincials, swallowed by the big city, made with love and knowledge of the subject. Only we will be able to appreciate the absurdity of what is happening on the screen, because something similar happened to us too: finding a tent on Torforezov Street, which is on a VIZ, or lasagna on the balconies of crustaceans.
I recommend watching with a rating of 30+. Very funny, except for jokes.
I did not really understand who and from what New Year's booze called this film a comedy, but with this genre in common, it has, frankly, not rich.
However, the movie did not get worse. There is nothing to laugh at, and you can also not look for a good mood. The film is a longing with which it is permeated from the first to the last scene. The salesman of the kiosk, his friend, a shifter, Gosha (who plays Gosha, but here he is just as poured into the place) are hostages of his life, which strangely intertwines and forms a magical New Year, but extremely unusual atmosphere. A lot of well-planned plans that make you feel close to the characters, the characters - everything is just fine. A couple of times the author went through with a black woman. Don't know. Without all the details, the movie would have won. Those who have seen this life will finish everything themselves, and those who have not seen it will still not understand and such details will only be pushed away. In my opinion, it is time for our cinema to get sick with “realism”, and the director would not turn into a producer of low-quality material, which is full of lists of domestic “film products” without it. In this vein, to make a film more serious, it would not be priced.
I can’t give this film a positive rating just because I’m not sure I saw exactly what the director wanted to say. A number of moments make you think that suddenly they really tried to make a Russian comedy, and in this aspect, I do not want to advertise it. Whoever finds it and appreciates it is lucky. You may, like me, review it more than once.
What makes a director make a movie that is disgusting? The very feeling is "disgust." Cigarev disgusted by the surrounding reality, disgusting and disgusting. His picture is just a cry of the soul of a man driven to depression by the sight of his country, rapidly sinking into the abyss of obscurantism, as if under the evil spells of a hellish coven. Moreover, he resorts to the Aesop language only in borrowing the name and paradigm of the plot of the original work.
The film, in my opinion, demonstrates modern realities not smeared with a glamorous euphemism: The main character of Lenka, who came from Malaya Lyali, is Ellie from Kansas, who was brought to the magical land of Oz by a hurricane. In Oz, she is the only non-mythical creature. The rest are spirits and magical talking animals. During the film Lenka travels to the Land of Oz, meets its inhabitants. She has a goal - to get to the "Emerald Castle" - a kiosk on Torforez Street, where no less impressive goblins await her (Goodwin with Bastinda). Despite all her efforts, none of the residents of Oz can tell Lena where such a street is, so in the end she still decides that she “did not take root” you need to return home. However, just as she came to the Land of Oz in a magical way, so she must escape. It is stopped by a bullet - just barmaleys shot at people smoking on the balcony.
Lena in the film symbolizes the viewer, incredibly suddenly caught inside the TV, network space. Stressed stupidity qualifies the Russian layman and Internet user as a “downyonka”. However, Shabadinova’s merits include the fact that she remains indifferent for a long time, impervious to the absurd happening to her, up to a gunshot wound to the head. The country of Oz is media Russia, existing only on TV screens. Reporters do not show real life, but create the mythological land of Oz, populated by immoral physiological perverts. The Emerald Castle in Oz was a symbol of Goodness, so the green stall at the end of the film burns down. Or rather, it is burned by the evil wizard Bastinda. Goodwin never waits for Ellie and dissolves into blocks of Uralmash panels. Lenka, who received a bullet in the head, falls on the “flying Dutchman” – a means of transportation that can take her out of the country of Oz. On the way, she meets with the salesman of the kiosk and asks goodbye “Where is Torforezov Street?” This is a key point in the play: everyone watching television today should ask the question: where exactly is what happens to me on TV, where is this street Torforezov? And to find the obvious answer, Torforez Street is Emerald Castle, and it's located in Oz. And to get there, you have to be swept away by a hurricane of propaganda.
However, neurosurgeon wizards prevent Lena from returning to Kansas; a way of direct action for all doubters in the Kingdom of Curved Mirrors. Although she has “leaked half of her brain”, Lena still lives. Now it is quite suitable for the Land of Oz. Surgical surgery - lobotomy - turn her into the same magical essence as the rest of the inhabitants of the magical world. The new Lena will now be able to integrate into this world. It can become its own, perceive what is happening as a natural and normal course of events, it will be an inexplicable curiosity for real people penetrating the country of Oz. And she will, in accordance with her fairy-tale conscience, try to help the unhappy to go through the same evolutionary path that fell to her.
Let me tell you a little more about the peculiarities of the magical inhabitants of the magical land: they play a dual role. On the one hand, these are, of course, fictional moral monsters that do not exist, on the other hand, his former human nature sees through each of them. And in these remnants of the human director shows us different ways of escapism from the toxic atmosphere of reality. One escapes in alcoholism, as here is not to quote the Gaza Strip. The best option is to fill everyone's eyes! I can see a fucking drunk life, even easier to live! Another finds some hope in the KSP and involvement in the opposition. The tired mother of the family banchit “Avonom” to make ends meet, and her older children moved to the expanses of “World of Tanks”, with the loss of all ideas about which world is more real. The only true mayor of the city is absolutely suspicious in the era of virtual reality, propaganda and fake.
Surprisingly, the Ministry of Culture sponsors such opuses. Although, given the general chaos and a higher percentage of freethinkers among the creative intelligentsia, this is understandable. How explainable is the fact that after the end of the work, the film was thought not to be released at all, “due to the large amount of obscene vocabulary”, banned in cinema to our time, as corrupting the cultural and moral foundations of society element.
I watch the movie for the second time in a year and I watch it in a year. Honestly, I’m afraid to watch it more often, although I liked it the first time. I want to relish every sentence, every moment. I haven’t enjoyed it since #39; Big Score' and #39; Cards, money. . .'.
About the film - interesting, funny, dreary.
And most importantly, for some reason this is our reality... everyday, and fortunately annual, not daily.
Sadness - little, or rather the absence of people in the city-millionaire on New Year's Day. And brings nostalgia (personally for me) imperceptible small, childish thing - raspberry mittens on the hands of the main character.
My opinion is we need to see.
It is strange that someone found something funny in this movie. He's sad from beginning to end, but worst of all, he's hopeless. Even the ending with a hint of further life together does not inspire optimism, given the character of the potential fiancé, a frostbitten idiot. Despite the festive, sparkling and brilliant New Year’s Days, there is absolutely no New Year’s mood in the film. The atmosphere inside this world is joyless, everything blows with loneliness, sadness and longing. Oh, yeah, and a little pissed off stall. And if it is quite objective, then the feces too.
The so-called humor in the film is peculiar, because I personally do not see anything funny in the stupid buddhism, the twisting on people of true, toilet humor, the demonstration of hidden bad desires and the use of the dirtiest colors for human life writing. It seems that only one “law of nature” guided the creation of the plot: a pig will find dirt everywhere. If we are talking about family or family values, then: the husband beats, so divorced, overfed children yell at their mother, a vile petty husband cheats on his wife, etc. If perversions, then those about which it is shameful to remember, but served - juicy, with "gravy".
As for the essence of the plot, it is absolutely impossible to understand why an adult female cannot - and does not try at all! - concentrate on the main thing, on delivering her body to the right address. After all, it is not in the woods, but in a big city, people around – let someone tell and help. At the same time, the heroine does not have a heartache about the future work, that someone because of her can not change, or the employer because of her does not receive the required income. With such a retarded brain and callousness, she really has nothing to do among the people of this city, in which the concentration of other degenerates and degenerates per square meter is already great.
I really enjoyed the performance of the actors, it was great. But, alas, it is all the more regrettable that their talent had to be spent on all this, in fact, black woman.
You could dismiss the film, say, art house, and therefore – like this, and not for everyone. But he does not pull on the art house, too classically everything is made and served.
As for perversions, it is immediately clear that the author of the script Vasily Sigarev has it in his heart and mind. I am very sorry for him and his family. Peace be upon your dust, Basil, for you are dust. Still alive. And for the same obvious reason, there is very little real “color of the Russian soul” in the film, which is claimed, and certainly no “all its beauty.” Again, I am sorry for Vasily with his vision of beauty. Removing obscenities, blacks and perversions is not difficult, as not difficult as liquid shit. And to make a film about the color of the Russian soul - here you need to try hard, and even stronger if it is about its beauty.
Conclusion. Sad black girl under the New Year sauce.
I'm watching a movie. No, I don't know about it, I just watch it sometimes. What's important to me? Perhaps the emotion that remains is the aftertaste. I don’t understand Tarkovsky’s films, but when I watch them, I feel like I’m getting better. That my mind, my soul is filled with something deeper, higher than what I live my usual everyday life, often in the bustle of affairs not having time for “deep reflections on the eternal.”
“Country of Oz” started out pretty funny, there was so much going on in the first 10 minutes of the movie, and I was waiting for what to do next. I thought about how professional writers are so fascinating to me. But the further I looked, the more my enthusiasm faded.
Apparently, this is a film for a narrow circle of people. Is it me? Nope. I am a member of the middle class of Russia, and I am the average in my city. But, nevertheless, I am surrounded by people who are intelligent, educated, honest, purposeful, kind and decent. I grew up with them, and now I am among them. This is my company. These people live, dream and achieve what they want, believe in what they do, and without going to their heads, but honestly, correctly. I believe in people like that. Are there other people? Absolutely. There is poverty in our country, there are beggars and wretched, the maimed and the sick, and the bell rings for us too - to paraphrase Hemingway. What did the authors want to do? To show disadvantaged marginals and say, look how miserable our lives are? What's the message? When the credits go, I don’t think of happy endings (thank God, he’s a happy one), but poop. Why are there so many of them in this movie? I don't understand.
The kind and decent people who make up my “society” have problems. But they're like another level. Not about poop, not about fuck, sometimes of course, but it's hard to call "problems." Man is made up of flesh, soul and spirit. For some reason, classical authors and their works remain in history. Even when Dostoevsky writes about murder, he touches some layer of the soul of each person, the soul that is above the waist. We're not animals. A kitten who does not understand, who does not have memory, after some time with his own mother-cat can give birth to his offspring. Do you feel the difference?
Maybe this is the wrong review. But I don't want to see a movie like that. People like that. It’s like gathering all the saints living in our time, priests, maybe philanthropists, unrestrained optimists, and making a film about them, so that butterflies in everyone’s belly would have a ball. And to say, look how beautiful we are. Not always beautiful, not everything is beautiful, but we are the crowns of Creation, we can do more than just poop.
V. Sigarev managed to fall in love with me even in the film “Live”, where, too, the main role was played by his wife, Yana Troyanova. Maybe the main characters should be younger in the movies, but she fits perfectly into the pictures, playing a simpleton and at the same time not replaying a drop.
Lenka Shabadinova, floating with the flow of life, especially not bothering, agrees with everything that life offers her. The surprises of New Year’s Eve catch up with her at every turn and us, the spectators, with her. A great New Year's movie, again opens the chest with pride that they can, after all, shoot a worthy and so close, dear one in Russia. The whole film can be divided into clear dialogues, dissected into quotes that are used after watching in everyday life.
Bravo! And thank you!
I was totally negative about this picture from the beginning!
And this is quite justified, after all, the Russian art house is immoral and talentless to a large extent. And here we are already being prepared for a thrashing poster, plus the trailer emphasizes all the absurd happening on the screen. So I was expecting to see a terrible movie with a bunch of mat and toilet humour, showing that we are all cattle. That's what I saw! But one thing that surprised me is the contrast. In other words, the trailer fooled me, it kind of says that everyone you see here is stupid or bad, but in fact it is not. The characters of Lena and Roman are revealed in the course of the development of the plot, their motivation becomes more understandable and from this one penetrates to them (Kutsenko in the image of Roman, I was reminded of one of the brothers, it can be strange when he drinks too much, but at the same time remains a good person).
So, in general, the picture of the stars from the sky is not enough, but it is not pressing with immorality. There are funny scenes, there are tragic ones, there are disgusting ones. In this regard, I understand both negative and positive attitudes to the film, but for me, the movie is “travelable”. After all, before watching, I thought that I would not give him more than 2-3 points and there is such a surprise.

Starting to watch the film “Country of OZ”, immediately after a heavy social film with elements of cruelty, and seeing the first shots, I tuned in, criticize, outrage, tear to pieces, argue angrily. After ten minutes, I couldn’t stop laughing. Absolutely ridiculous.
It presents different types, subtypes and subtypes of modern Russian people, from romantic writers working in kiosks to partygoers on cool cars. And they all meet a girl from the suburbs went to work in the city on New Year's Eve. I would classify this film as a black comedy with elements of romantic melodrama.
The film should be judged by the aftertaste, this film filled with touchingly positive emotions, despite the “stuffiness” of obscene language, which it is simply criminal to note in it, since this is an integral part of it.
To raise the mood, people with broad views, able to laugh at themselves.
