“Once Upon a Time” is a series whose plot is based on the interweaving of various fairy tales with their heroes. The plot of the series is unusual - the son found his mother, and they went together to the unusual town of Storybrooke.
I'll start with the best parts of the series.
First of all, an unusual idea. There are no such series. That all the heroes and villains of fairy tales come together? There's no such thing anywhere else. Secondly, it's a plot. Very skillfully, all the worlds of fairy tales and all the characters organically intertwined with each other. In general, most of the plot moments are quite logical. It was pleasant to watch many episodes, pleased with individual plots of the series, as it is told about various characters and their story is revealed. The first season is good, it is difficult to find fault with it. First information about the characters, first emotions. Season 2 sank a little, but as happy as the first, season 3 is the best for me, 4 is also not bad, sometimes you can say very much like it. I didn’t like season 5, especially the first half of the season. In my opinion, it was from the fifth season that the total thrust began. Season 6 surprised and disappointed at the same time. The last season I consider not canonical, I did not watch, just read about it and got acquainted with the end. The third advantage is the musical accompaniment and screensaver. Well, the last plus is costumes and makeup, not 10 out of 10, but still. The next advantage is the cast. A selection of actors for their roles. Almost all perfectly fit into the picture and the classic image of the hero of the fairy tale. These include, for example, Prince Charming/David – very good, Ariel, Mulan, Dwarves, Red Riding Hood, Ding Ding, Jasmine, Maleficent, Cruella and many others. Separately, I want to say about the amazing Zelena, the actress is suitable for the role. She has charisma, her own style, and she plays well. That is not surprising, because the character was selected for the actor. The same I want to say about Hook, handsome, interesting, not quite a pirate from a fairy tale, but in the series played well.
I didn't really like Snow White. The actress seems to be pleasant and the image of her can be understood in the course of the series, but still something does not like, hairstyle, clothes. By the way, in the enchanted forest she is completely satisfied. Another actress doesn't like Belle. But in her case, she is no longer satisfied with the storyline and how the character is written.
The one who really enjoyed it was Rumpel and Regina. Both actors and characters are great. They pull everything. Play, emotions, feel the height and seriousness of what is happening. More than one person has heard that their favorite character is Rumplestiltskin or Regina and that people watch Once Upon a Time because of them. The Evil Queen is the only character to grow so much in all seasons. Rumple remained in his role and this is also beautiful.
And now to the dubious moments of the series and all the failures.
Emma. Boyish, energetic, confident heroine. It was interesting to see. And what it became at the end, it is completely unclear why the creators launched the main character, uncooked, tired, completely not bright as in the beginning. It was painful to watch. Even the last scene with her in the series was a failure. It was completely changed, for the worse. Jennifer Morrison's acting is not the best. The next thing that upset, is some twists of the plot, unnecessary and unsightly, there are only guesses for what to shove so much unnecessary in the series. Well, not completing the lines of many characters, in a series of series we show them, and then they disappear without a trace. The last doubtful moment was season 7, it should not be.
Now to the conclusion. In the series, a lot of time is devoted to the topic of family ties, how important is the relationship between parents and children, something you can even learn for yourself. Once Upon a Time, first of all, a family series, is suitable for viewing not alone, for everyone there will be something in it. There is drama, comedy, and romance, detective, bit by bit from each genre. You can put on the background, but you also have to watch. OVS is a good series, not perfect, but eight out of ten from all seasons will gather.
8 out of 10
The series tells about Emma Swan - the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming, who must believe in magic.
This series was created by Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, the people who were in charge of Lost, and it immediately feels, all this atmosphere, riddles, flashbacks.
Of course, this series in many ways does not reach Lost, but still deserves attention. First of all, these are the characters against which Emma herself is lost, such bright characters as Rumplestiltskin, Zelena, Captain Hook and of course Regina, the evolution of her character is the best that is in the series, also please secondary characters such as Merida and Ariel, the series with which the truth is fascinating. Another advantage is the costumes of many characters, especially the Evil Queen. Also in the series great music, which is not confused with anything, not to mention the musical episode. But what I’ve been watching this series for is the Disney characters Elsa, Hades, Peter Pan, Jasmine, Belle... and to watch these characters interact with each other for Disney fans is an incredible sight.
Of course, there are also frustrating moments, such as weak graphics (the fire of Hades and dragons), self-repeats (the erasure of memory) and the entire seventh season (characters, history - all bygone).
I'm really glad I came across this series and found my Happy Ending.
In the difficult period of life between defending a diploma and entering graduate school, my tired brain really wanted to see something fabulous, light, about locks, swords, princesses and so on. The course went everything from the Tenth Kingdom to all Shrek. “Once in a fairy tale” for a long time did not decide because of the large volume, but in the end gave up and decided.
The first thing I want to say about this kind of fantasy and my attitude towards it is that I love high-quality worlds. For me, it is very important that the authors who create their universe make it interesting and, very importantly, logical. It is a sign of mastery when the creator comes up with the rules of his world, and observes them to the end, when he comes up with a solution that obeys the laws and logic of the universe. I mean, I hate it when there's a magic flower that can break all the spell. In fact, this requirement completely destroyed the impression of a large part of the series.
So, the original idea of the series really liked. The intertwining of fairy tales, and the hoax in the form of a timeless town, in which the characters are forced to experience their own curse every day forever. It's a really cool idea. And all the weaves created initially are very coolly combined with each other. In the center of the plot we have “Snow White”, around it dance “Cinderella”, “Red Riding Hood”, “Pinocchio” and many others in the new adaptation. The magical world turned out to be very holistic and all the characters look organic, not attracted by the ears.
The structure of the first season is structured in such a way that we observe two parallel stories - the life of the fabulous Silenthill in the real world and the story of the past that led us to current events, but in a magical world. Personally, I really like this story. Almost every series (some series show parallels not between characters, but between events, moving the plot forward) draw parallels between the life of the hero of the fairy tale and his embodiment in the real world. It looks really good. For many, there is a problem in the fact that the narrative of the magical world goes not linearly, but into a scattering, which makes it difficult to understand the chronology of events, but this did not bother me at all, since I swallowed the season in a volley, not having time to really forget what happened, with whom, when and where. I can't be sure, but I think a linear narrative structure in a wizarding world would look terrible. The life of all the heroes of the mysterious town begins to change with the arrival of Dr. Cameron, forgive Emma Swan, who is also the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming and must save all the heroes of fairy tales from the curse. Well, the first season is awesome. A thoughtful interweaving of storylines, a worked-out story, multi-movements of one magnificent man, and in general colorful characters, a huge number of small details (an apple tree in the mayor's yard, items in Mr. Gold's shop from various fairy tales, clothes of Red Riding Hood, etc.). These details are beautiful. The transformation of heroes of fairy tales into real people is beautiful. Cricket Jimini became a psychiatrist, Mad Hatter - couturier, the Queen - mayor, Frankenstein - a doctor in the hospital, Belle's father - a rose seller. Names and many other things are well thought out. My applause to the creators for such painstaking work at the beginning of the series.
Each of the characters has two hypostases - in the real world and in the fabulous. Some of the characters were successful in both, some only in one world. Regina and Rumpel are bravo, beautiful in both worlds, the most colorful characters. By the end of the first season, it begins to seem that the main characters are not Snow White, the prince and their daughter, but an avid chess player Rumpel, without a single sneeze of which nothing is done. Snow White and David — for me, they turned out well in a fairy-tale world, so cute, brave, talk about hope, morality, and all that, typical fairy-tale characters, in a fairy tale look tolerable. Their versions in the real world are creepy. And if in the first season they could be tolerated because there was a distinction between reality and fairy tales, and in reality everyone behaved adequately, then after their snot leaked into the real world and it became impossible to look at it. And they are central characters and they have a lot of screen time. The main character Emma is the character that initially I really liked, a kind of chic blonde racketeer who can come with a chainsaw to the mayor in the yard and cut her favorite apple tree. Unfortunately, by the end of the series, there was no trace of the cool girl, she became like a single mother after a week of sleepless nights, and even her face took away from a man suffering from diarrhea. She has a son, Henry, who's a pretty funny kid, no complaints except one. This potz lived for 10 years in a city where no one grew old, no children grew up, that is, he went to school for several years, every year moving to another class, and all his friends did not grow up. It didn't bother him, did it?
The second and half of the third season are adequate, although it was already there that the creators could not cope, since the original plot did not contain seeds for the future, that is, all super-duper multi-movements and interweaving of storylines begin to seem far-fetched. Starting with season 4, the fierce game starts in the form of a complete undeveloped plot with the desire of the creators to weave heroes, events, times and worlds. It looks terrible, the problems for the development of the plot become far-fetched and stupid, the logic of the universe flies to pieces, watching becomes uninteresting and frankly boring. Royals in bushes, magical flowers, trample all the laws of the universe, long live anarchy. In addition, the creators too liked their own method of parallel narration of two worlds, which was appropriate only in the first season and the second or third, when it was not about the past, but about the present of the heroes in different worlds. This parallelism in recent seasons has led to the fact that the plot of the wizarding world had to come up with a bunch of squalid internal problems for all the characters, for many of whom these problems completely devalued the original tragedy of the hero.
And in the series for tragedy, everyone becomes relatives. A bunch of lost children, parents, sisters, brothers and so on. In the end began a wild moralism like let's forgive everyone and everything, the world of friendship gum.
In season 7, I watched only the first series and the last. The creators decided that to succeed you need to repeat the first season with other characters, but the success of the first season was in thoughtfulness, details, multi-movement, interesting characters.
7 out of 10
Because the idea is super, but the creators were not such masters of long games as Rumpel, and were able to build a related plot only for a couple of seasons. It’s a shame, because you could get a really cool series.
This series is good from beginning to end. However, the chosen theme gives fertile ground for imagination. The plot intertwines real life in a small town (a fantastic classic, if you know what I mean) with elements of magic and fairy tale. Since there are so many fairy tales, new characters and storylines appear regularly.
The first seasons are very annoying the main character, Emma (Jennifer Morrison), but then even she becomes almost native. By the way, her car, the yellow Volkswagen Beetle, looks very atmospheric. The car is charming, like a fairy tale. There are a lot of symbolic little things in the series, ranging from the names of characters and names, ending with interiors and so on.
But let's talk about the characters. Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) is also not immediately used, but later she becomes unexpectedly humorous. Rumpel (Robert Carlyle) and Regina (Lana Parria) are certainly the best. Play actors, relationships of characters, color – well, all the ten!
By the way, Lana Parria and Ginnifer Goodwin together starred in another great and sensational series – “Women Kill”. In terms of expression, their characters are similar to “once-story”. This tape is also recommended – not fantastic, but very atmospheric and exciting.
There are children in the series, but, pleasantly, they are not annoying at all - they picked up small actors well. It’s important to me because I don’t like kids. Even the popular "Stranger Things" tried to watch and could not.
The most entertaining thing about fantasy series is the relationship between the characters. When enemies gradually become friends, then work on different sides again, then get back together, make deals, troll each other. It's funny and funny.
In the case of “Once in a fairy tale” is also interesting family ties – siblings and step-sisters, biological and not very mothers, grandfathers aged from fathers. And the constant movement in different worlds and realities, where all the characters sometimes lose their memory.
There are also breaks in patterns, but they are beautiful. Especially with Red Riding Hood and her grandmother. Snow White was not as simple as usual. Together with the prince (Joshua Dallas), they have a very nice tandem.
By the way, Dallas starred in another fantastic series – “Manifesto”. There, of course, is increasingly strict and less humorous, but exciting. One of the directors of “Fairy Tales”, Dean White, directed “Manifesto”. Creativity is great!
In general, the directorship of “Once Upon a Time Tales” is impressive. There gathered mastodons, filmed “Fringe”, “Supernatural”, “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Firefly” and much, much, much more.
So definitely watch!
I watched all seasons, from the first series to the last. The film is a multi-layered cake and a double-bottomed bag at the same time. Adventure lovers will find them here in abundance, and a thinking person will find depth. What I didn’t expect was to see the depth, and it was there. The inaccuracies of the plot and scenery did not interest me at all. The idea of the film was interesting, and this idea was close to me. Not everything is so unique in the soul of every person. Good and evil, light and darkness, repentance, inner transformation, salvation through incorporation into the gift of Love. It's all in the movie. I really liked Lana Parria and Robert Carlyle. But! There are some negative things I can’t help writing about.
1. Evil is much brighter and more interesting than good. The good is neither dull nor dull. Apparently, it is much easier to paint evil with colors, but to tell the same about good is the lot of ultra-professionals, aerobatics. Well, there's a lot to do.
2. Season 7. . A lot of people said that he failed. No further comment on this topic. .
3. And finally, curts and bows towards LGBT people. You can accuse me of intolerance, please. But again, for those who think: remember history, read. Yes, people with non-traditional orientation have always been. But those civilizations in which vice and disease become the norm, in which the codes of taboo sexuality of man are broken - such civilizations, empires, states have perished. Dissolved in the air. And not only that. Why? Think, think. Who does not want to understand - your right, who wants to understand - also have the right.
In general, the film turned out to be a barrel of honey for me, there were even some insights, but they concern only my path. She told me about the tar spoon. Thank you to the creators of the series ' Once Upon a Time' I wish them and myself the cleansing of hearts from wormholes and a complete transition to the side of the Light! It's good, that's for sure.
Not serious about serious, or fabulous about reality
Despite the fact that I love fiction, fantasy, fairy tales, watching this series I constantly postponed. He often came across me in the selections and recommendations, but the plot seemed strange: who is the daughter of Snow White, who comes to her abandoned ten years ago son, so that she returns the memory of fabulous residents living in the real world? Then I decided to watch a series or two and... the series dragged on immediately, watched it sloppy and will definitely review.
I’ll start with what I really liked.
The manner of presenting events. The plot develops simultaneously in real and fairy-tale worlds. Moreover, the narrative in the real world is consistent, and flashbacks from the Enchanted Forest show us indiscriminately, but at the same time those that are directly related to what is happening at this moment in the real world. Thanks to this, a whole, juicy, rich picture is formed, and the viewer does not threaten to forget something important, because of which he may not catch another twist of the plot.
Storylines. If you think that this is a banal retelling of well-known fairy tales, then this is not at all true. Some common features are preserved, but at the same time all fairy tales are freely changed, supplemented and expanded, the characters constantly intersect with each other both in the real and in the fairy-tale world, are friends, fight, love and hate.
Visual component and atmosphere. Of course, in the first seasons, not quite high-quality computer graphics of castles and villages of the Enchanted Forest catches the eye, but you do not want to find fault with this. Imagination paints everything you need. The rest of the series pleases with bright colors and landscapes. Storybrooke is small and cozy, I wanted to walk along its streets. The enchanted forest is unpredictable, full of dangers and hope. In the series, there is enough humor and emotions, you almost do not have to be bored.
Of course, heroes. The main core of the main characters stands out immediately. I will share my opinion on each of them.
Emma, the daughter of Snow White, the main character, the Savior, who is destined to lift the curse, restore memory to all and protect in the future. It handles these tasks with varying success. Emma is kind, compassionate, but at the same time the lady is brave, determined, ready to fight back anyone. It’s always interesting to watch.
Snow White is another war lady, not at all like the gentle quiet Snow White from the Disney cartoon. When the Evil Queen began to pursue her, Snow White went on the run and became a robber. Accordingly, it has a full set of qualities necessary to survive in harsh conditions. However, sometimes the lips of this heroine and her husband (by the way, he is her husband both in the series and in life) set out too much morality and morals, encouraging speeches and slightly banal encouragement.
Prince David is Snow White’s life partner. In my opinion, not too bright and interesting male image. Women in their family rule, and that's true. David is more supportive and supportive, but most decisions are made by others.
Henry, Emma's son, is the boy who triggered the series. Believing that everything in the book of fairy tales is true, he tries to make Emma and others believe it.
Regina, she's the Evil Queen. A bright and interesting woman with a difficult fate. I don’t want to spoil it, but I got the impression that Regina was very disliked by one of the writers. Otherwise, I cannot explain the swing that happens to her all the time throughout the series. The image of the Evil Queen is gradually revealed. At the beginning of the series, she is a classic evil stepmother who wants to destroy Snow White, and does not cause sympathy. Only then do we learn that things are not so clear, and that her antipathy for Snow White is well-founded. In the series there is no absolute good or pure evil, as in life, each of us has both, and Regina changes under the influence of external circumstances, trying to cope with hatred and find happiness.
Rumplestiltskin – oh, save it for last, it’s my favorite character in the series. A dark magician who values power above all else and tries to multiply it. He is an incorrigible intriguer and liar, intelligent and calculating, who turns brilliant multi-movements with the main characters, but he also has the “Achilles’ Heel” – the people he loves, his son Belfire and the beautiful Belle, whom he jokingly takes out of his native castle to make his maid. His relationship with them is not easy precisely because of his desire for power, for in his attempts to increase and consolidate it, Rumplestiltskin stops at little, especially before destroying innocent lives. Nevertheless, it is the love of those who are dear to him that is the lifeline that prevents him from finally plunging into the abyss of Darkness. Throughout the series, his character, like Regina, gradually changes, although at first and not too clearly, and by the end appears completely different. Robert Carlyle brilliantly played this role, or rather, two roles - I often laughed at the next jokes, sarcastic comments, moving facial expressions and hilarious rumplestiltskin's grins and gestures, and then full of tears I watched the next disasters of Mr. Gold, elegant, calm and restrained. Just five points out of five!!
Now on the downsides (yes, and they are, alas).
Some predictability of the plot. The series has a rating of 12+, and that leaves its mark. No blood and bed scenes, instead, assurances that everything will be fine, that family is the main thing, that good will defeat evil anyway, and so on. There are very interesting plot moves, but intrigue is infrequent, almost always clear how this or that event will end. I would also cut back on moralizing dialogue, sometimes wanting to yawn while Snow White and Prince talk about virtue, perseverance and never giving up. That everyone has the right to a second chance, to redemption, if they sincerely repent. Maybe that’s what you need for the little ones.
The biggest drawback is the seventh season. What it was and why, I still don’t understand. In my opinion, it was worth finishing the series on the sixth season, especially the last minutes of its final series were just perfect from the point of view of fairy tale laws, and from the point of view of all the main characters (except Regina, maybe, but apparently, she has such karma). The seventh season is copied from the first, and very clumsy. Like it's a fan spin-off. I don’t want to talk about it, it’s not worth it. There are six seasons in the series.
I watched all the seasons of fairy tales, sometimes painful and predictable. Many stories are simply sucked out of the finger.
But I will tell you about the main thing that shocked me in the first place, this is like Red Riding Hood, then Alice from the Looking Glass in a hickey kiss with her ' lovers & #39; girls, and very sorry that my child saw this, and that I even included this fairy tale. It is a pity that censorship in our country misses this, not all parents are ready to show such revelations of free love to their children. I'm definitely not.
The seventh season is just a failure, it’s good that without Emma, she is always with an eternally sick look, already pretty tired in previous seasons. There is no plot as such at all, you look and forget who is where now, who remembers what, who catches up with whom or has bewitched. I won’t be able to do this for the child anymore, but I’m already sick.
It is difficult to evaluate the series clearly. The very idea is great - to bring together the heroes of all fairy tales, all fairy-tale worlds and connect also with the world & #39; our & #39; without magic. For the idea - 10 out of 10.
The plot is well woven, although at times it seems too intricate, especially with these family ties - who is there for a dad-mama-me? But the tension practically does not subside: the stubborn struggle of good with evil interspersed with happy endings, several storylines, flashbacks in the fairy-tale past of the heroes ... This is probably 9 out of 10.
I want to talk about the selection of actors. It's not rosy at all... Of the perfect ones, I can only mention Bel, Captain Hook, Henry, and Little Red Riding Hood with Grandma. Oh, and Elsa and Ariel and Prince. The Evil Queen is more than perfect. These actors either got used to the role better than others, as if they lived all their lives in the enchanted forest, or simply ' so it happened ' naturally and naturally. In addition to the perfectly selected image and characters of the characters of the series remain unchanged, they always recognize the image of the original fairy-tale character, they always follow their principles.
As for the rest, I just want to cry. Savior. The Savior who never believes in anything and who must be constantly persuaded, begged, begged... And in general, a blonde aunt.
The beautiful Prince (or rather, forgive me, miller) in the Enchanted Forest seems to have turned out nothing, but in Storybrooke turned into a bloated, burdened with the hardships of everyday life man, almost without any features that distinguished him in his native world. Although it still turned out nothing compared to the main character Snow White. Sometimes I want to punch her in the head. Well, why, from this beautiful image made a stupid hysteria without special mental abilities, and also critically illegal. a in Storybrooke and at all we appear something incomprehensible, drooling (in terms of emotions), overgrown, constantly hysterical, and with the birth of an heir and at all ' the image of Snow White' the roof went. And the look... I doubt that a self-respecting princess would have driven herself to such madness and disgusting appearance. Sadly, this fact undermined the general opinion about the series.
And in general, why in the fantasy series these 'muscles-cannons' with newborns Snow White, Cinderella and who else... Well, there are few TV series on such topics. Why do you have to put it in a fantasy?!
This is all 2 out of 10.
Humor in the series on 5 of 10, costumes and scenery on 6 of 10. The general idea is unclear. If the authors tried to convey that good always conquers evil, then, to be honest, already in the second season, the impression is that all evils are from good. That's also 2 out of 10.
Overall, 5 out of 10.
Would I recommend it? I think so. There are many opinions, not everyone is so bothered by the details, not everyone is annoyed by the resulting images. It is worth watching, everyone draws conclusions himself.
Once upon a time in a fairy tale or why I love Regina Mills
“Once Upon a Time” is really magical. Although the first time I watched it in school during the winter holidays on TV-3, it didn’t really hook me. I remember wondering why the same people end up in different times and images in the same series, and the main mystery is who is the real mother of Henry, Regina or Emma? It's getting ridiculous.
But after watching it later, I fell in love, which is called by the ears. Absolutely everything in it is flawless - from the plot to the costumes of the heroes. Well, the graphics are not Game of Thrones, but this is an inconsequential minus. Game of actors mostly just on top.
Let me list my favorite heroes first. Of course, this is Lana Parria (who by the way is now my new idol), Robert Carlisle and Robbie Kay.
Basically, the whole series I watched only for Regina / Evil Queen. The game, the costumes, the dresses, the history of life, the appearance, I absolutely love it! And sometimes even sobbed over some moments because in my life there were similar situations and to experience such a really scary. Looking at it is a pleasure!
Rumpelstiltskin, though throughout most of the series and was a villain, which absolutely nothing can change, still I like. It seemed that his poverty and the fame of a great coward made him so cruel, but becoming an all-powerful Dark Magician, things got much worse. Having lost his son again because of his own cowardice, he ruined the life of almost everyone who encountered him, and in the first place, Regina. Once he was found, nothing changed, and even after Balfire's heroic death, Stiltshin's heart remained black like coal. But at the end of the day, I turned to the bright side.
And finally, Peter Pan. Such talent at such a young age speaks volumes. Season 3 was supplemented by another actor for whom it was worth watching the series. Such charisma! Such expressive eyes! A true villain, and even with a cunning. It's a pity it was so little for the whole series.
Emma Swan is a direct reflection of me, certainly not with the same tragic story, fortunately. Iron lady who prefers pants and leather leather to delicate dresses and even an image like Regina. Everything was written off of me, which is very nice. But, unfortunately, it is inferior to the three previous characters.
The others played well, but my love was not worthy.
The story deserves 10 out of 10. Unpredictable, fascinating, perfect! Who knew that the Evil Queen hates Snow White not for the beauty in which, by the way, the latter loses. Especially since Rupmelstiltshin is the son of the villain Peter Pan!
But... Season 7 was disappointing, to say the least. The creators simply decided to steal the plot from themselves, and the plot of season 1. There are only 6 seasons for me!
A fascinating story that can warm up interest, but only for one season. To meet and check the list. Two worlds: fairy-tale and modern, where the characters of many fairy tales that we meet since childhood are combined. Showing a modern worldview through the prism of fantasy characters is a good step. We follow the fabulous, let’s say, children’s storytelling, and modern urban problems, which are versed by adults.
This is a series, so the effects were saved, which is why the picture of a fairy-tale world with mystical creatures catches your eye, but there are few such things, and you get used to them. According to the chronology follows initially a fairy-tale world, where the curse of the evil witch turned everything that exists into a modern world. Many stories intersect in the fairy tale, but one unexplained moment remains - the daughter of Snow White and Prince. Until you understand what’s going on and what the world is in, two alternate branches lead the narrative. And then the only person who in the modern world knows that there was a curse of the villain, begins to explain the main character - the same daughter - the whole fabulous branch of events.
That is, if you do not like the line of a fabulous country, then you can safely switch to the modern world. Reminiscent of the Tenth Kingdom, only simpler (or nostalgic in me). The details of the fact that almost all residents of the modern world do not remember anything about their past life are clinging, so it is so pleasant to find Red Riding Hood in the waitress, in the head of the Rumplestiltskin antique store, in the kindergarten teacher Snow White - such transfers to a new way play an important role in intrigue and interests.
We are waiting for love triangles, only if in the fairy tale it was so clear who will marry whom, then in the town of Storybrooke the intricacies are gaining new twists. It is attractive that there is a book of fairy tales, in which all the characters are written, they are like the Bible in their world, and only a little boy Henry knows about it - the son of the main character Emma Swan.
Familiar names, predictable behavior and real professions surrounding fairy-tale heroes – this is the storyline in the city. It's also exciting that until Emma, who is part of the prophecy, came along, time froze in the city, groundhog day over the years. And only 3 people know about it: villain, ally and neutrality, with whom you can always negotiate.
Love triangles will be infuriating at first, but when the viewer learns more from the fairy-tale world, what happened in the past, then shura-moors no longer seem so fundamental. Solving the mystery and restoring the memory of residents is a key task of the first season. The names of the characters in Storybrooke are consonant with fairy tale versions, so you can guess who is in front of us. At times, the series is tense, but when the lines of the two worlds draw a general picture that gives answers to important questions, then you justify some negligence. Some characters reveal themselves to the viewer for the first time, others already impose more events and connections with the rest of the characters on a familiar story, so you can trace the dependence of seven dwarfs from Snow White with fairies, Rumplestiltskin with the evil queen, Mad Hatter with Snow White's daughter. The insidiousness of the evil witch can be given a separate bonus, that in Storybrooke, that in the Fairy Tale - it knows no boundaries, constantly shocking. At the same time, the price that the villain brings for her plans is so great that in the future you understand the motives of the Queen.
Removing the prophetic appearance of Emma can generally take the side of the villain, since by the law of modern society she is right, and the good lady is not. That’s how the viewer rushes from fabulous insidiousness and lies to the modern protection of his child and the interests of the inhabitants of the city. Until you know all the background of the characters, do not judge them by appearance and intentions. The brightest and most charismatic character is Rumplestiltskin, he can be compared with the Joker of Heath Ledger, for facial expressions, laughter and hidden intentions lead us along the path of a calculating man, whose dramatic history is also revealed.
Detective investigations are good in the modern world, while a smart schoolboy understands the whole meaning of the spell, the evil hands of the witch come on his heels, which is also represented in the quest hunt for a solution. Although the funny point is that the main mystery for the viewer is open, but the internal intricacies are just beginning to take root.
The first season logically ends, the answers to the main questions are given, only they have done a lot of secondary lines, added more characters who will later play their role, but the meaning of the series is clear.
P.S. The red cap in a waitress costume looks like a call girl, which did not escape attention.
To be honest, I have never seen a show worse than Once Upon a Time. While watching, I could feel how this series harms my psyche and poisons my brain. I love reworking fairy tales in a new way, but in this work fairy tales turned inside out and turned too many times.
In fact, the series was not even about fairy tales, but about the life of St. Regina Mills. Regina was not punished for her actions, her entire series - all seven seasons! - was stubbornly portrayed as a victim. Delusions, delusions and nonsense again! Yes, I have loved villains since childhood, but Regina is not the case. She's a nasty and completely false person. And as a sin for the sake of fan service, she was shoved into all the holes, she was in the frame indecently often. Other villains for some reason were not exposed as victims.
The show has a rotten morale from up to down. Yes, negative characters always have an interesting fate, they are ambiguous. But nowhere else have I seen such a deflection of the plot under one villain and the belief of the viewer that she is actually a victim and not at all evil.
I had favorite characters - Rumplestiltskin, Hades, Zelena, Cruella, Fasilier, Ingrid. But they were all leaked.
I do not recommend the series to anyone. Don't repeat my mistakes. Don’t try to make sense of this whole mess, it’s a trap.
1 out of 10
Let's start with the pros. They are few, so we will deal with them quickly.
First, Lana Parria (aka the Evil Queen, aka Regina Mills, aka Ronnie in this ridiculous installation) and Robert Carlisle (aka Rumplestiltskin from a children's fairy tale) are hugely grateful to them, because they, with their amazing acting, essentially pulled the series out of the deep quagmire in which he got involved. Their characters at least made the seventh season relatively bearable, so that the TV did not want to immediately run the remote.
Okay, let's move on. The soundtrack as always at a height, camera work, colorfulness, special effects - there are no complaints.
In all, there are about five scenes from the entire season that touched and broke tears. Include the last twenty minutes of the finale, and the scene foreshadowing the end. You deserve your happy ending. Now go find it - powerful, incredibly strong.
And now let's move on to the minuses and shortcomings, they are here - the field is not dug.
1) The main character Emma Swan was thrown out and replaced with a completely vague, inconclusive version of Cinderella. And Cinderella (another) with its own line has already been, but in fact, why not cram a new one without even explaining anything? The actress plays out of hand badly, her line is bad, what the creators tried to achieve here is unclear.
2) Noodles, noodles, and more noodles. Yes, I know, oatmeal used to have pink cotton candy, but not in such quantity, not in such proportions and not so frankly lousy quality. Snot for snot, plot - zero, semantic content - zero.
(3) I just didn't like the idea of a witch gathering. Maybe because I saw the whole story arc in a much better and more convincing performance. Either way, it's a fat minus.
(4) And why not throw out a lot of old, well-written heroes and put in their place new, without having written them? Therefore, now the seventh season is overpopulated with murky characters with vague motivations and goals that are incomprehensible even to them. Take Drizella, Cinderella's evil sister. What she wants, what she wants, can only be guessed. One seeks revenge, then does not seek, then swears that he loves his sister and wants to reconcile with her, then the next moment he tries to kill her. It seems that all the characters suffer from chronic amnesia, because they change shoes right in flight, dramatically changing the motivation on the principle of “where the wind blows, there and fly.”
(5) Repetitions, repetitions, repetitions. Seriously, the creators are engaged in the adaptation of fairy tales, why not show a little imagination? They also did it perfectly in previous seasons, chic plots, chic heroes of old fairy tales, rewritten anew and became more vivid, realistic. What happened this time? Tired of inventing something new, decided to repeat the plot moves of previous seasons? If everything is so tired, why not finish the sixth season? Why remove the seventh, since it is obvious that no one needs it anymore?
(6) I will not even touch the numerous plot holes, sagging, blunders and shortcomings. If I start painting this and poking my nose, it'll be a three-volume book. I'll just touch on one thing.
Okay, so the creators came up with a bunch of alternate worlds, gave them a little bit of time travel. Okay, well, many people do this, we have a pond of all parallel worlds now and there is nothing shameful in this. BUT: the structure of their universe writers never bothered to explain (remember the situation with double Cinderella). They themselves in interviews laugh at their timelines, saying that they are so confusing that the damn leg will dislocate. That's not the problem, gentlemen.
When you’re inventing a new universe, you need to be careful to explain it.
In oatmeal just put a mountain of everything, and logically did not interpret. There are a thousand alternate realities, hoisted on top of each other, like the Tower of Babel, and they all coexist in one reality, and moreover, from one reality you can reach another, not someone there, but even yourself from the past! How about that? Or, in one reality, which has a thousand realities, at the same time there are a lot of times, and the past to you, and the present, and the future, and you can safely meet and chat with your doubles, or even triplets, just walking a couple of blocks from home. None of the characters feel any discomfort. Only I don't understand how this messy universe, built on its own, can work in theory.
Even in fairy tales, there can be no universe so terribly underdeveloped that it will crumble like a house of cards. All events should logically fit into the whole picture, but they do not fit.
Mr. Robot, season three, episode one, a phrase said almost at the beginning: "When we lose our principles, we invite chaos." Unfortunately, in the seventh season, this happened. A reality that is based on chaos and entropy, a reality that contradicts itself, a reality in which no principles are observed, no logic is observed because they simply do not exist.
Conclusion: Gentlemen, this is a failure. As I said, you can count five good scenes, but in general it is a complete failure.
I'm going to say a phrase I hate more than anything. A phrase I don’t want to say, but in this case I have to.
It should have been finished in the sixth season.
I really should have.

P.S. I would like to rate this, as well as the gray color of the review only for the acting of Lana Parria and Robert Carlyle, the last twenty minutes of the finale and respect for past seasons.
I honestly don't know who you have to be to get through this. It's a swamp. What's not there? The creators collected everything they could. If I start listing, there is simply not enough space.
The costumes are gorgeous. You can't argue. Especially the Evil Queen and the ball dress. Magical locations (except the Enchanted Forest) opposite are full of computer graphics.
Actors are terrible. By season 3, everyone had stopped playing and some had not started. The only ones who are less tolerable are Gold and Regina, though she's a little overplayed as the Evil Queen. The most disgusting character is Henry. The boy is not only that he does not know how to play at all, but also looks like I get scared when I look at him.
Dialogues are stupid and predictable. The events taking place in the series are unbelievable. Heroes appear in different places by waving a magic wand.
The most interesting season is the first. He was, I dare say, almost perfect. And the actors played, and the atmosphere was, and most importantly, there was logic. The second one was good too, but it was worse. after season 3 about Peter Pan, where they ran around the same bush all season, I lost interest in this series. Through force I watched half of season 4 about Elsa and Zelena, if I am not mistaken, and abandoned the series. About two years later, I watched Season 6. And... Same thing. The endless appearance of new heroes, sucking the plot out of nothing, cheap special effects, a lot of absurdities and a complete lack of desire to play in this series for absolutely all actors. It makes sense. Just think: 7 or more seasons of 22 episodes of the most selective nonsense.
Flashbacks are interesting and you need them. But why are they inconsistent? I mean, at all. Snow White (swelling to unimaginable sizes and with an idiotic haircut in Season 6) and Prince can defeat the Evil Queen, but then another story is told where she tries to kill them again. And so on a thousandth circle. The leaps in time phases are absolutely not controlled by the creators.
There's no sincerity in the show. None of the heroes. I could paint each couple individually and say how bad they are, but it doesn’t make sense to just sum up and say that I just don’t believe in any of their stories.
I can only recommend season 1.
The main problem of this show, from which all other shortcomings grow, is the blind thirst for money of its creators. Of course, no one says that all good projects on TV are made solely for the sake of an idea, rejecting profits, but the negligence of these creators in relation to their offspring is the most fabulous thing that is in the series.
It will be very difficult for an inexperienced viewer who has included the first season to understand that he is being deceived. And indeed: watching charismatic actors, with sincere pleasure playing roles, you can forget about the sagging plot and the message; even clumsy special effects can be seen through your fingers. By the way, in the first season, these same effects are still used wisely and look very original: for example, classic and already tired fireballs are replaced by a spectacular image of magic in the form of fog or smoke. The cameraman sometimes catches such plans that you want to savor the frame like a good wine. Musical accompaniment, though rather scanty and simple, but catchy - and always in the theme. In general, nothing portends trouble, and the first twenty episodes may even like. But wait to be deceived and consider this performance successful: you are waiting for a strange second season, a surreally snotty third, an extremely awkward and insecure fourth, bordering on delusions, and all the rest – which are unlikely to please even a ten-year-old child who grew up on Russian sitcoms.
The first suspicion that something is unclean arises during scenes that contain hints of truly adult cruelty. It seems strange, but in general it does not interfere with viewing. Then the melodramas begin, and the feeling increases. Then it turns out that all the characters on the screen are related, and then we come to the point, after which there is no way back. In conclusion, we see absolutely inappropriate popular heroes from the acclaimed cartoons of recent years, and then the viewer is forced to admit: they shamelessly earn money on it, without bothering to give something equivalent in replacement.
In an effort to capture as many audiences as possible, the series shows us a naive, bright fairy tale for children, with a rather gloomy, but acceptable for a tender age morality. But what is it? On the screen there is a sexualized Evil Queen (Lana Parria), who does not hesitate to tear hearts from living people, and Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) without excessive modesty tortures enemies in sophisticated ways! Or like this: a modern branch tells you that you need to forgive loved ones, give a second chance, trust your friends and take responsibility for your actions. Adults have already learned their own experience, but for children this message is very useful. But wait! Here, in the line of our world, there are murders, and drugs, and infidelities, and rather hot scenes with an obvious hint of bed continuation, and informals, and casual connections in a drunken state. The series does not know who it wants to attract: adults who will be really interesting and harmless to watch the complex and cruel intricacies, or children who want more adventure, dragons, bright feelings and a clear understanding of who to root for. As a result, both sides remain deprived and dissatisfied.
The same applies to lovers of detectives, melodramas, adventures and fantasy. The show tries to please everyone, keep as many viewers as possible at the screen. At first, he succeeds, although not very confident, but then it breaks down and rolls into the abyss, losing the audience. In an attempt to grab the ratings and squeeze another dollar, the writers come up with something simply ridiculous. It turns out that the series is just burying itself. It's sad because the idea is good.
Perhaps, if the authors decided on a higher rating, we would get a fairy tale for adults. Original, different from all other representatives of fantasy, and interesting. A fairy tale that would remind us of what was said as a child, only in a more accessible and spectacular language. But alas.
Is it worth watching? The first season is worth it, the rest do not want to advise. In addition, this show is an amazing example of how fans of this undeserving series have become so imbued with the story that they complement it and make it better. Whether you’re ready to immerse yourself in the world of the show’s fans, read a couple of fan fictions, or watch a few YouTube videos, you’ll discover an interesting mini universe. Which, unfortunately, the original story is much inferior. I can also say that if you tend to get attached to the characters and watch the show for them, then “Once Upon a Time” will definitely drag you: both the actors are good, and the characters are interesting, there is someone to look at. Connoisseurs of the plot and moral background, considering this product from the point of view of art, I would recommend something else.
In total, the series from me gets 6 out of 10. Not too bad, but not as good as promised.
And the sponsor of our show - amnesia. Amnesia and let the curse be lifted again!
Once Upon a Time is a series about fabulous (and, as it turned out, mythical and legendary) characters. The plot is based on the fight against evil and their own demons, because of which, in principle, most troubles happen.
Season 1. Boring, but new, fresh and unusual, and therefore looks without undue tension. Since the real world in the series is intertwined with the fabulous, then, of course, we are shown a lot of flashbacks. Someone may be interested in how the characters of your favorite fairy tales were there according to the version of the local writers, but personally I was tired, because, with my hand on my heart, jumping into flashbacks only distracted from the real-time plot, which was good.
Season 2. Here began to mix the characters in a small bunch, plus showed the fairy-tale world in real time.
Season 3. A pretty good interpretation of Peter Pan. The season was quite good, but the constant jumps in flashbacks, an even greater mix of characters in a pile gave results, and after the third season, the series teleported into the abyss.
For good, it would be necessary to stop at the third and stop, but the creators for some reason went into all serious. More characters, more flashbacks, more illogicalities that contradict everything you’ve ever seen before. Almost all the characters have known each other once, and this is shown and shown in the inserted scenes. And new heroes are familiar with old ones, and old ones are familiar with even older ones. And family ties are epic! If you analyze who is, you can suddenly find that the heroes of “Once Upon a Time” it is best to just accept and make friends, because they are all one big family.

P. C. I really like that each reboot starts with total or local amnesia. How many. You can. That.
Great show! The best first 2 seasons. Acceptable for adequate viewing and the 6th, oddly enough.
In the first two seasons, love is felt in everything. I'll always find you!- sound very sincere.
The most interesting thing is that even negative characters cause sympathy, and their stories make them look at them differently, empathize and sympathize with them.
This series will be very liked by those people who have ever loved, did not fall in love, but loved. Loved so much that philosophers would call it a disease, in other cases, the series will seem just ordinary, a mixture of fairy tales, and for someone and raving writers.
I'll say a few more words. Unfortunately, there is one nuance in life: when something is too much it is already an uninteresting mainstream, for example, when you are taken care of too much, such care is a burden and the person who does it becomes intrusive and you just avoid communicating with him, that is in this series. After the second season, the words: I will find you always seem like a bath leaf, a kiss of love is irritating, and you just wait for the season to end faster. And, yes, intricacies, who has who, it's your dad, it's grandpa, it's mom, it's mom, it's the guy who saved your mom, killed your older cousin, very kind to all the fairies, hoping to kill you-- your great-grandfather-- Oh, my God, this is so boring!
The worst part is that the writers are angry with Regina. No, well, of course, that happiness is not easily obtained - it's like the morality of a fairy tale! But for Regina, apparently, happiness is not provided at all.
Later, the nonsense of the most complete - the race for rating! - from fairy tales they try to make something popular. How popular is it? We've all known fairy tales since childhood. And OK, let it be unconventional love, but show it romantically, beautifully, Ann, there is no complete boring (otherwise than racing for a rating and not called)!
I am glad that by the sixth season, the writers strained and did not sculpt everything into one pile, but again began to tell the story, a little more interesting. But still the first 2 seasons in this series are the best, if you miss the rest, you will not lose much.
The review is neutral, as the first three seasons of the series liked, but then it got worse and worse.
“Once upon a time” is a story about magic and magic, about true friendship and all-conquering love, and naturally about good, which always conquers evil. Familiar fairy-tale characters appear before us in a new image, often with a new character and in a completely different light than what we are used to knowing about them.
The stories of characters from different fairy tales (and not only fairy tales) intertwine and create new storylines. And also intertwines the real modern world and the fairy-tale world.
I'll start with the pros, that is, from what I liked:
1. The main plus is Mr. Gold, aka Rumplestiltskin. A favorite character of many who watch the series. I’m not going to be original, he’s my favorite. It appears before us in three ways. From the very beginning of his history, he is an ordinary spinner – a cowardly and poor peasant who was abandoned by his wife and who loves his son very much, but loses him and his whole long life is devoted to finding his son. The second image is a powerful dark sorcerer who is feared and hated. He's crazy and cunning. The third image (my favorite image) is the mysterious Mr. Gold, the usurer and “owner” of Storybrooke. Everything is just as powerful and still hated by the majority. Undoubted credit for the creation of such a multifaceted and interesting character lies with Robert Carlyle, who with his frenzied charisma and beautiful acting was able to embody this hero.
There are 2 weaknesses in Rumplestiltskin - this is his son Belfire and his beloved Belle.
2. Rumpel/Gold and Belle's love line is what I keep watching. One version of the very well-known story of Beauty and the Beast became my favorite storyline.
3. New storylines. A big plus for me, too. In each season there are several new heroes and villains. Interesting and dynamic.
4. Different locations. There is Storybrooke, the Enchanted Forest, Neverland, Wonderland, Oz, Camelot, the Kingdom of Hades, etc. The variety can not but please, although of course most events take place in Storybrooke and ZL.
5. I liked Regina, aka the Evil Queen, and her story.
6. Mary Margaret/Snow White and David/Prince Charming Boring to shame, but their all-conquering love can not but please.
And now on the minuses:
1. Logic. She's gone. Total absence. The series is completely unlogical. It is not logical in dates, events and in certain actions of the characters of the series. Do not look for logic, it is not here and will not be.
2. Dumb and stupid acts of positive characters. They always run somewhere to save someone, talk about the highest good and terrible evil, condemn Gold / Rumpel, but they always run to him for help. They always go where they don't ask. There are always 5-6 people, sometimes more. The latter is most annoying for some reason.
3. Gravity, or running in a circle. Rumple is bad, Rumple is good, Rumple is bad again, there is no good, he again succumbed to evil, and then he became good again, but no, he is still evil. There is no end or end to it.
4. Rumpel/Gold and Belle's love line. Turned into not knowing what. Or rather, Belle turned into a stupid hysterical. It was a great character, why was she turned into a fool? He'll screw up, hiding behind the ideas of the highest good, and he'll clean everything up to Rumplestiltskin, and then he'll make him guilty. I don’t lose hope for this couple. I hope they have their “happily ever after.”
4. "The Savior" Emma. It seems to like in the first seasons, now very annoying and infuriating.
5. I didn’t like what Regina was like, a mixture of Emma and Snow White. She joined the crowd of 5-6 people, sometimes more. I don’t like her love line with Robin Hood. Couldn’t she have found someone better, a king or a wizard/sorcerer (someone like Rumplestiltskin). No, she got a married robber, who cheats on his wife with Regina, and Regina with his wife (someone will say that this can not be considered treason, but I do not think so), and the child injures the third. Quite a boring character who also drags along with a crowd of positive characters.
6. If a character is dead, it does not mean that he is dead. Heroes die and come to life, then die again, and then are alive again. Sometimes I want to shout “yes, you finally die!” P.S. It's not about Rumpel. He has to live forever.
7 out of 10
For the first seasons, for Rumplestiltskin, and for his love line with Belle.
A great beginning went to the conveyor production series.
I started watching this series, as I consider the fabulous theme very exciting and deep, from which you can draw a lot of interesting things. And in the beginning, it was just that. Characters with their own history, which had their own good and bad moments, worked out characters, inserted flashbacks into the theme - all this made a promising impression. Add to this more love lines and intrigue, how it all ends - and it turned out just perfect. For the relationship of the same Snow White and Prince worried more than for their own
But it could not all last long, and the series just began to prolong more and more, and since the imagination and characters of fairy tales are not endless, then the series began to add, forgive the expression, completely left-wing figures, which, frankly, puzzled me. The first such moment was the continuation of Disney. "Ice Heart" in the series. The characters did not even try to change into something else, just took the franchise and completely moved to Once Upon a Time. I was already thinking about the originality of the series, as well as the purpose of the writers. From about the same moment in the series began to happen some really wonderful, not to say more, wonderful things even for a fairy tale. Previously, at least one or another coincidence seemed something magical and good, over which the directors of the screenwriters tried. But from the fourth season, there was a sense of hacking. For a whole half-season, the storyline of the snow queen developed, and then everything was decided literally in five minutes, because a note was found in a bottle of bygone days ... The indicator of logic fell so much that I decided not to bother and look further.
And then it got worse. If the introduction of characters from “Ice Heart” was somehow comparable to a fairy tale, then later in the series appears Cruella from “101 Dalmatians” in the role of an evil sorceress who loves luxury. It was a great temptation to stop watching the series. And if earlier it was still possible to justify the desire of the writers to get more profit from the series, then there is a real author's stupor and there is nothing left to do, how to introduce Cruella and in addition to establish her almost friendly ties with Maleficent (who, by the way, was dressed after the release of the film of the same name as the heroine of the same film) and the sea witch Ursula (although before that the series said that this is a sea goddess, which has not been seen for centuries). So it's really sad here.
Characters and earlier in the series now appeared, then disappeared without a trace, leaving the question:", and why were they even introduced?, storylines and before were replaced quickly and constantly there were some side effects. But logic and in general expediency were monitored. But the series fell into a conveyor trap and essentially stayed there. And well, at least somehow developed characters, but almost all this huge set of history and character changed only Regina (evil Queen). Her life, decisions and so on were interesting to watch. In addition, they really carried specific answers to the question: & #34. Why does she even do that?” Overall, her acting was excellent. It was really a character that I felt almost to the end. As for the rest of us, Snow White and Prince became just a broken record, who only did that they were heroes or because of something suffered. From the second season it began to look comical, and sometimes fake. Especially when you, as a viewer, are anticipating phrases even though you haven’t watched the series yet. The main character at first was a pleasant and intriguing person with a difficult past and a tearful history. But again, it would be worthwhile to develop the character, and not twist the plot of the whole series around the topic of abandoned children, etc.
In conclusion, I will only add that everything is fine only in moderation, but in our world as long as there is a spectator, they will shoot until the victory, adding new characters, all new storylines, depriving all this of meaning and justifying it all with the title “Once Upon a Time”.

You can't judge the series by the first series. I want to say to those who compare this series to others, especially the Tenth Kingdom, they have nothing in common. The Tenth Kingdom is for children, it makes no sense.
As with many other series near the end, interest in viewing is lost, few series boast an interesting development of the action throughout the seasons. But despite this, you need to continue to look at it differently, you will miss very important points that will finally determine your point of view.
Great show, good actors. Many people think heroes are too right, but maybe that’s their bad side. After all, this is the purpose of the series - to show the relationship between heroes and villains, good and evil. You have to learn patience to feel it.
It's not even about fairy tales. Just look and think about it. Then you will stop noticing the shortcomings, noting only the advantages in it.
9 out of 10
My impressions of this series can not be called positive, but they are not negative, so I think a review of the gray color is appropriate. Let me start with what I like to do the most: listing the shortcomings.
First, any logic and sequence of actions is extremely rare, many things on the screen occur only because it is necessary for this frame, nothing more. The plot is too long, there are extra moments that are sometimes not at all useful.
Secondly, it is very striking simple computer graphics, and sometimes even its absence, where instead of a special effect just a change of frame. Of course, there will be arguments “but this is not a blockbuster, but just a TV series, look at the budget” and the like. And remember the same Game of Thrones, I’m not talking about the last seasons, when this is already a popular project and there is really a lot of money poured into it, but even at the start it was the same TV series with the most usual budget, but with what a quality presentation! You guys are doing a fairy tale, so you could try to make it a fairy tale, not another Santa Barbara.
Third, actors. I understand that the interpretation of fairy tales here is very peculiar, but to take on the role of an actress who is 2-3 times older than her fairy-tale character, which can not hide any makeup, it is too much. And the highest quality game can boast units like Robert Carlyle or Lana Parilla. The rest are either theatrically portraying emotions, or are so underplayed that it seems as if they scored such a bolt on all this, and wait for the whole nativity to end soon.
Four, the characters themselves. Despite the fact that we are shown the history of each of them, almost no one is really revealed. Whether it is in the actors, or in the writers, I do not know, but something is wrong.
Now, the virtues. First of all, this is an unusual interpretation of classical and new fairy tales. Unexpected connections, actions, even character can be the exact opposite of what everyone is used to.
Another controversial, but dignity are all the same actors, more precisely actresses, but in a different way. We used to think that princesses or generally positive heroines must be painted beauties with perfect appearance. This does not happen in reality, or it rarely happens. Yes, there are many beauty in our lives, but there are no ideals. Everyone has their flaws, their own zest. Here we guessed, there are more beautiful, there are less. Someone may think that it should be the opposite, let everyone have their own tastes.
Thirdly, the series does not strain the brain, so if you just want to watch something to take time, and not think later, who said what to whom and what the subtext was, and who was the killer, and why that guy is considered bad, and he is really good, then you can devote time to the series Once Upon a Time. Also for this reason, it is suitable for viewing children and adolescents.
You are not born evil, dear. You are becoming them.
Honestly, I didn’t expect anything supernatural. I was advised by his classmate, and I put it on my film series list, putting it in a long drawer. But August came, and I wanted something new than watching the same movies and sticking out on YouTube, sticking over different vidosik. I looked at my list and thought, “Why not?” One thing I’ll say for sure: I’ve never been disappointed in the series, watching Season 1 through Season 5, and now I’m looking forward to releasing Season 6. The plot is non-trivial and keeps in tension throughout the viewing. I watched the heroes closely, their adventures and the intricate twists and turns of history. "Once Upon a Time" is characterized by a deep analysis of the motives of the characters' actions, the study of the roots of good and evil. The creators are trying to interpret the familiar stories from a different angle, to reveal them in a new light. Here, villains often become victims, usually of circumstances, but more often of themselves. Many of them even struggle with the darkness in their soul, like Regina, and others, even if they try, can not overcome the darkness in their heart, like Rumplestiltskin. There is nothing absolute or orthodox here. Heroes can do bad things, and villains can do good things. The series shows how the transparent characters of English folklore acquire flesh and shade, and we, the audience, can associate ourselves with them by watching their development. I love Disney, and I love these wonderful cartoons that I grew up with. I also love fairy tales – the Brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Andersen, Charles Perrault, which I read when I was a child. But now, thanks to this series, I can’t watch Disney cartoons and re-read these fairy tales as before. I’m going to want to dig into the characters’ motives to understand why they’re so kind or, on the contrary, prevent them from finding happiness. Maybe they have good reasons. Rumple became a dark magician because he wanted to save his son. No wonder the Evil Queen is obsessed with the thirst to kill Snow White, because through her fault her beloved died. No wonder Zelena wants to annoy her sister Regina, because she is angry that her mother abandoned her, and Regina, on the contrary, was holiness and cherished. This is true of almost every negative (nominal) character in the series. I used to have tears in my eyes when I saw what these "scoundrels" had to go through to come to life like this. In fact, as such, there are no heroes, no villains, no absolute goodness, no hopeless darkness. Everything is so complex and multifaceted that you wonder. The palette of the series has many shades, halftones, shadows and highlights. But it's actually a lot easier than I've written here. Behind the swings of magic wands, bizarre spells, grimoires, fairy pollen and flights on the broom hide simple human stories that are painfully familiar, perhaps, to everyone. Here - and real love, and the first sprouts of love, and care for the neighbor, and tenderness, overflowing with the head when a mother takes her child in her arms, and a premonition of something incredible, and considerable heroism. Here is the all-consuming hatred, and the desire for revenge, and treachery, and betrayal, and dishonesty of those who should have dignity, and lies and cowardice. And most importantly, you don’t get bored. We are constantly surprised by unexpected turns, as well as events that make you bite your nails with the words: “Well, what?” What is it?
The series hasn’t stalled yet, I still want to watch it. But, of course, he is not without flaws. Writers sometimes forget that Once Upon a Time is based on stories of magic, which is very important. So, there were times when I was reaching hand to face, "How's that?" The city is not visible on the map, it is magical, then why the hell is Emma using a navigator on her smartphone? Various blunders and holes in the plot are quite common, which is worth paying attention to the creators. In addition, some storylines seemed inappropriate to me. For example, they went overboard with the whole fifth season, trying to stuff King Arthur with the knights of the round table, and Merida, and a twist with dark Emma, and the afterlife with Hades at the head. By the way, I did not like Merida in both the cartoon and the series. Both there and there, she is stupid and incapable of taking responsibility for her actions. I didn't like Hades either. He was good at the beginning of his appearance, giving the impression of a ruthless villain who instills fear and manages souls who have unfinished business. Then the catavasia with Hades and Zelena began, and he lost his chic image. Imagine the dark god of the underworld, who has Cerberus on guard - a huge monstrous dog with three heads, and around - the river Leta, and he can at any moment throw you into its waters, causing you to perish forever. And this god (!) suddenly takes and falls in love, loitering before the object of his sighs and behaving like a real romantic. I don't know what you think, but I think it looks ridiculous. I'm not talking about Zeus. Just took and fucked the adream of a powerful and formidable god-thunderer with a long gray beard, a lightning thrower, one glance of which makes all mortals shudder, choosing some youthful peasant for his role. This Olympian actor looks like Hephaestus at most. It's good that he's only there for a few minutes and at the end of the season. Honestly, I'm burning up about it.
However, if I don’t dwell on all these things, I can only say one thing: I’m excited about the series and look forward to the sequel! I hope season 6 is as dynamic and exciting as I want to end!

I saw the series in excerpts, decided to watch everything, so to speak ' from the cover to the cover '
Personally for me - special effects arrange, costumes too!
What about the acting - by the end of the fifth season finally convinced that the main character was to play another actress:
1 - I don't believe in anything!
2 - I am a great magician.
3 - I am the coolest of the dark ones.
The inflated self-confidence of the main character, just caused frank disgust - I will go to a showdown with the villain! "We are with you," the experienced magicians and wizards tell her. “Stay, you can’t do it, only I can do it,” the former orphan, the criminal, the unbeliever replies. . .
If not me, then us! That's Emma Swan's credo. Constant and intrusive attempts to teach all (older than her) heroes of fairy tales, to improve their personal life, to guide the true path, to protect from evil forces - outrage to the limit!
These bulging eyes, apparently, depict wonder, fear, horror, awareness of its own splendor and greatness. An old woman's mouth with the corners of her lips down, constantly wearing shoes with high studs in which she runs through the woods surrounding Storybrooke. . .
She knows everything, she knows everything. How she taught Regina the rules of surveillance. But I was most outraged by her statement that she was with magic on you, said to Hades (the god of the underworld in Greek mythology). I really didn’t like her in this role!
At the end of the fifth season, Regina and Rumplestiltskin became more liked, despite their negative qualities.
In general, the series is painful (this Snow White with her inner spiritual suffering just infuriated and the voice of her translator was extremely annoying). We hooked up other characters. . .
After watching 7 episodes of the first season of this series, I realized how it feels like a child who got into the chair of a psychoanalyst just because he believed in fairy tales for too long. I will tell you right away, fans of fantasy series are strictly forbidden to watch - irreparable consequences are possible.
First of all, it is not quite clear - what is the target audience of all this? For young children there is too much cynicism, routine and frankly "adult" problems. For an adult, there is a terrible indulgence and falsehood of both the characters and the basic idea of parallel worlds - real and magical (by the way, this dualism is absolutely not worked out - as if you periodically watch some excerpts from another series, no connection). For a teenager, this will be a real torture, because there is not the slightest dynamics, a real plot swamp! But the series is simply chic for parents-monsters who want their child to quickly become a faceless gear in a society of injustice, inequality and indifference.
During the first two episodes, you look at the brave little boy Henry and think how famously the plot will be twisted, how they will “save everyone”, how coolly the dull routine will be transformed, in which even the clock hands are stuck on the city hall (a real swamp). Well, fuck you! Somewhere in the sixth episode you look at Henry and realize that the boy is not himself, and his rich imagination plays a cruel joke with him, turning into obsessive manic syndrome. I have no idea how even the first season will end, but if it turned out that Henry was just sublimating the problems of adulthood to fairy-tale reality, and in reality there is no magical world, I would not be at all surprised that the writers plunged us so deeply into a disgusting soapy traction. Yes, probably some "Adventures of Mary Poppins in the country of very kind and polite people" in ten seasons would be more interesting to watch!
Dim, cheap, monotonous, disappointing, f.

After reading the words below, you might ask why the review is positive. I’ve been watching the series.
I can say with confidence that this is one of the most controversial pictures I have seen in my life. If a team of directors and writers did it on purpose – my respect and low bow, because it was a glory. If this is an accident, then they are the most incompetent people who once took up shooting, who are very lucky. .
Let's start with the main character. Emma, also known as The Savior, in fact, during the first seasons causes nothing but misunderstanding. A completely insane, strange woman, rushes from side to side, trying to help everyone around, endlessly annoying with her stubborn stupidity. And it is not surprising that Snow White is a relative of her, because if Emma, when the series passes through its “equator” ceases to annoy, then this young lady infuriates with her presence throughout each episode. And when you hear her say, "Good always wins," you want her to either stop being good, or the good stops winning. At the same time, there is no ambiguity in these characters, they are simply disgustingly “correct” and the word correct here in quotation marks does not happen, more than half of the time, they are never right, but convincingly bend their truth, covering it with “kindness”. These qualities are possessed by many heroes. Talking about the male population of Storybrooke, with the exception of Rumplestiltskin, makes no sense. Why? Because it's an extra. Even the handsome prince, the seemingly central character, simply fades somewhere in the shadow of his wife, daughter and other women. I assure you, remove the prince, the dwarves, no one will notice. Rumple, on the contrary, is an interesting character and worthy of a separate mention. The coward, who has gained unlimited power, is almost completely repulsed by Robert Carlyle. A really great character is one of the reasons I keep watching. The other is Lana Parria, aka the Evil Queen. A woman who played, albeit bombastic, but vengeful queen and a loving mother. The third reason to continue watching is not even the plot itself, but the characters that are introduced with each season and how their relationships are played out. Peter Pan, Bastinda, King Arthur, Cruella. They appear and disappear, sometimes so brightly that it becomes interesting where else the sick fantasy of the writers will lead the series.
In general, the main (non-seasonal) male characters, except for Rumpel, did not succeed at all. Women, on the contrary, cause either irritation or attachment. But how the directors managed to make all the evil ones pleasant and the good ones disgusting is a mystery to me.
And with all the disadvantages described above, there is some soul in the series. Yes, the special effects, especially the first seasons, look ridiculous. Yes, the main good people do not tolerate any criticism, both from the point of view of common sense and from the point of view of subjective kindness. But this pair of villains and the spirit of childhood favorite books, make you include one series after another.
Love fairy tales, beautiful outfits and do not be afraid to throw something heavy into the screen because of the main, but with that and useless good people, kindly ask in Storybrooke.
To Lana Parria and Robert Carlyle, the gems and saviors of this series that I fell in love with.

I have been watching Once Upon a Time for 4 years now, and there has never been a time when I wanted to quit watching the series. A very good plot, in which all the characters are registered and their backstory is perfectly shown.
Emma Swan |Jennifer Morrison is the main highlight of the series. The writers came up with a very useful character, which is also amazingly played by Jennifer. Over the course of 5 seasons, Emma turned from a lost girl into a real woman, a loving daughter and a kind mother. She is ready for anything, most importantly to save her loved ones.
Snow White |Mary Margaret |Ginnifer Goodwin- Snow's original story has little in common. The creators showed it from a completely different side: here she can stand up for herself, fights with the Evil Queen, tough, but it’s all in flashbacks. In the modern world, she is sweet and kind, and just like her daughter, she will do anything to save her family. Ginny has played the role flawlessly.
Prince Charming |David |Joshua Dallas- Unlike Snow White, Beautiful looks more like himself from the original story. He is a brave, courageous, kind-hearted man. David is a great father, grandfather and husband. Joshua was probably created for this role.
Henry Mills |Jared Gilmour is a kid with dreams, just like we all used to be. In fact, it's not Emma that's the highlight, it's Henry. He returned the story to Storybrooke. After a few seasons, he grew up, both in deeds and physically (I never understood when he grew up), now he is a loving son, a grandson who, like his loved ones, is ready to sacrifice himself, for the sake of his family.
The Evil Queen | Regina Mills | Lana Parria is a magnificent character! Lana plays Reg magnificently, her game is fascinating and does not let you take your eyes off, she truly conveys both the image of the Evil Queen and the good Regina. The writers play a cruel joke with the story of her character. Her desire to kill Snow is justified, Regina is too sorry, because losing loved ones is very painful, but I am very glad that she has become a positive character, who, incidentally, still does not allow you to take your eyes off every moment with her.
Rumplestiltskin |Mr. Gold|Robert Carlyle is a wonderful villain of Once Upon a Time. His insidiousness, malice and malice amaze. Adam and Edward impeccably linked the two stories ("Beauty and the Beast" and "Rumplestiltskin") into one, giving a graceful story. Robert plays Rumpel beautifully, as Lana plays Regina, i.e. fascinates the eye.
In the fairy tale, for 5 seasons, a lot of characters appeared, many of them lingered in the main cast, I will not write about everyone, just say that the writers showed the characters well, telling their stories from their side. The actors who play these characters are perfectly matched.
“Once Upon a Time” for 5 seasons gathered not a few viewers at TV screens, the pilot series generally collected 12 million views. The series has a lot of very loyal fans.
One disadvantage that could not be included in such a fairy-tale series, this minus in the second half of season 5, I will not say what the minus and in what series it is, in order to avoid spoilers, fans of the series will understand what I mean.
Bottom line: Bright, both life and fairy tale series, which has a huge fan base. A big plus for writers-Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, they created an unrealistically beautiful story that allows you to believe in a miracle.

Let’s go to a fairytale world, forgetting about reality. . .
Accidentally came across the series when they were showing ads on TV. At first, I didn't pay any attention to the series, like advertising. But after some time, I still found ' Once in a fairy tale' on the Internet and decided to look ... and from that moment everything changed.
The actors are so true that you believe them. You care about every hero, whether he is positive or negative. Do not leave indifferent and heroes who are present only 2-3 series. Their story is also impressive.
Good writers to do such a job! Weave stories together in a way that is even shocking.
It’s amazing how many characters are represented in the series. In Peter Pan, for example, we are used to the crocodile as an animal. But in ' Once Upon a Time' this is the man who left his dark mark on Captain Hook's life. And Rumplestiltskin. In the cartoon 'Beauty and the Beast' The monster is an enchanted, selfish prince with fangs, horns and hair. But in the series, he is a simple man who has been a miserable coward up to a point. He becomes a monster not externally, but internally. That is, his actions are monstrous, but even this does not deter the wonderful Belle, who falls in love with him.
You can see immediately that the actors get used to the role, giving themselves. And when you watch the series, you realize that in the place of any actor, you can not imagine anyone else.
Often in the series we hear the phrase: ' Villains do not have a happy ending'. I want to believe that's not true. And that every character, whether he is a villain or a hero, will be happy to turn from the path of Darkness to the path of Light.
I have no regrets about the time spent, moreover, I can say with certainty that I will review this series repeatedly. Because these stories will never get bored.

P.s. You can see that a lot of work has been done on this project. And that can't leave you indifferent. And the picture will be interesting not only for adults, but also for children. . .
When this series was released, I watched the first season twice, it impressed me so much, I still watch new seasons with the same pleasure, but something began to bother me. This is a fairy tale, although new, unusual, told to modern viewers, but it remains a fairy tale with a limited 12+. A fairy tale, as you know, is a lie, but in it a hint, a lesson to good young people. I want to touch on hints: good and evil in fairy tales therefore looks absolute, so that the audience, especially small ones, realize the fact that evil is always bad and must always be punished or defeated and every positive and good hero strives for this, he is always good and always fights and wins, and the bad always get what they deserve. So our children through a fairy tale realize what is good and bad, but in this my favorite series everything is shifted towards an interesting plot and not only, there are no absolutely good and absolutely evil: the good Snow White, Prince and Emma suddenly appear to us with bad deeds and intentions, and the villains Rumpel, Regina, Hook - with good ones.
In real life, people are multifaceted, but not so much that their essence would be both bad and good in one bottle. The authors of the story suggest to the viewer that no one is born good or evil, circumstances, other people, events, life itself make him so, and they are "absolutely not guilty" (!): Regina the death of his beloved, Hook the death of his brother, Rumpel the betrayal of his wife. But do not forget that by taking the side of evil, they no longer wanted to return, but enjoyed the evil deeds, enjoyed the torments and abuses. How can such a character become good and good again? Or take Snow White, being the kindest girl, having committed a bad deed, she did not begin to revel in evil, and all her life she suffered and regretted what she did.
Good is always good and evil is always evil, they do not mix like cocktails in a bar, they are of different densities. What will be in the minds of our children and teenagers, who watch the intricacies of the plot, lies entirely on the conscience of the authors, who know very well why and why they do it, they confuse and suggest that you are good, and someone else is guilty of your actions. Well, we might as well think about it. The series under the guise of fairy-tale characters, tries to penetrate the consciousness and distort the concepts of good and evil, children can not show it.
The series about the heroes of fairy tales living in our world, but not deprived of their abilities, was a discovery for me last year. I’m very picky about the choice of TV series (and movies), but the decision to watch “Once Upon a Time” was definitely right.
The first season is the starting point of history. It is here that viewers decide for themselves whether to watch the picture further. This is a season in which Storybrooke and its residents do not yet show themselves from the most spectacular sides, leaving the most important for later. And if the viewer hooked the series, and he decides to look further - he certainly will not regret, because all the most interesting begins with the second season. And each subsequent season, in turn, by “twisting” the plot bypasses the previous one.
In this series, you should not expect the protractedness characteristic of many serial projects (not only Brazilian soap operas). This is one of the main features of Once Upon a Time. Many conflicts are resolved quickly, not stretched throughout the season. For example, if one of the dark magicians conceived some large-scale atrocity - most likely, he will be prevented in the period of 2-3 episodes. As a rule, the good here really wins. Although it faces obstacles and moral tests constantly.
I want to pay special attention to the characters, because they give the series its uniqueness and zest. Almost all the characters are well selected and interesting here, but I will dwell on the main ones:
Regina Mills. The Evil Queen is one of the brightest and most colorful characters in the series. She went through the most difficult life path and transformation of character before our eyes. Spectacular and the most controversial, bright and charismatic heroine brilliantly succeeded actress Lana Parilla. Every appearance of this character on the screen is a guarantee that now we will see something really interesting.
Emma Swan. The blonde savior in a red leather should be, perhaps, the main and beloved heroine by the audience, however, she does not make the same vivid impression as, for example, the Queen. I like Emma’s character, but whether the acting of Jennifer Morisson is too inconclusive, or her unemotionalness and almost always the same facial expression is the idea of the directors. I still think that this character will prove himself.
Mr Gold. The villains in this series are something! I won’t be surprised that they have more fans than good heroes. Rumplestiltskin performed by Robert Carlyle is something that I have watched with delight almost from the very first series. The acting is simply brilliant, Carlyle on the screen was able to convincingly portray not only the darkest and most dangerous of magicians with his trademark grins, vicious facial expressions and gestures, but also the downtrodden, cowardly and unhappy man he was until power came in his hands. Robert Carlyle is an incredible actor, and his ability to play completely polar roles in the same project is one of the trump cards of this series. Bravo!
Mary-Margaret and David The true love of Snow White and her Prince on the screen was transferred to real life and Joshua Dallas. Is this not an indicator of how well actors are selected for the role of kind, loving and brave heroes?
"Henry." The connecting link, the true believer, and the one through which all history began. The boy takes an intermediate role and perfectly copes with the tasks assigned to him by the plot.
"Once Upon a Time" is a really addictive picture. It looks on one breath and never lets you get bored. Thanks to the writers (who, by the way, gave us the famous Lost, no less exciting series) for their inexhaustible imagination! I'm going to watch Season 5.
