Martin Landau was born on June 20, 1931, in Brooklyn and was a staff cartoonist for the New York Daily News before he decided to pursue acting. Loaded beyond any measure work on television, Landau attracted the attention of moviegoers in 1959 with his second film - Hitchcock's "North by Northwest", where he played a homosexual (a good start to a career in a respectable America!).
In 1966, Landau, along with his wife, actress Barbara Brain, were selected from the crowd of applicants for the main roles in the TV series “Mission Impossible”, the same in which the film was now made. Dissatisfied with the changes in the cast and the constant undercutting of the budget, Landau and Bane left the series three years later. The couple continued to appear together on screen from time to time until their marriage fell apart.
In the 80s, Landau was busy working more than hard, which resulted in two Oscar nominations for Coppola's 1988 film Tucker: The Man and His Dream and in 1989 for Woody Allen's Crime and Misdemeanors. Landau received his Oscar only in 1994, playing the role of the legendary Bela Lugosi in the film Ed Wood.
