The actor graduated from high school in Montrose, a small school town near New York. After graduating from school, he took part in productions of the Chelsea Theatre Centre for some time. One of the regular performances was "Strider: The Story of a Horse" and "Biography: The Game." A year later, the troupe moved to the Helen Hayes Theatre, on Broadway. However, the actor decided to finish acting courses and for this reason left the show.
Enrolling in the Jilliard school, Evan Handler devoted all the time and energy to learning. In 1981, he was offered his first role in the drama “Out”. The plot of the picture is based on the history of cadets, trying to preserve the glory of their school. On the same set with Evan worked such famous actors as Sean Penn, Tom Cruise and Timati Hutton.
A little later, he was offered to play in the drama “The Chosen Ones” under the direction of Jeremy Catana, and then in the comedy “Dear Mr. Vandeful”. Simultaneously with filming in films, the actor participated in performances on Broadway, and also went to regional theaters.
At the age of 24, Evan was diagnosed with a serious disease - myeloid leukemia. For several years he underwent medical examinations and treatment. After discharge from the clinic, he began to star in the film Sweet Lorraine, but soon the disease gave a relapse, and he had to abandon rehearsals and filming.
Evan spent about a year in the clinic, he received a bone marrow transplant and was monitored for a long time. He did not plan to return to the stage, but agreed to participate in the Shakespeare Festival. He was asked to play in the production of Six Degrees of Separation. Gradually, the actor returned to the theater and then to the cinema.
Since 1990, he has been offered radio and television roles, with a total of more than 40 works. The most popular can be called tapes.
