In 1979, in the film Manhattan directed by Woody Allen, her film debut took place. The following year, she performed for the first time in a Broadway production of The Lady from Dubuk, based on a play by Edward Albee. Further career of the actress was devoted mainly to the theater. She was remembered in such famous plays as “Descent from Morgan Mountain”, “Little Foxes”, “Our Town”.
Frances Conroy has been nominated four times for the Drama Desk Award and once for the Tony Award. She was very friendly with Arthur Miller and often played in his plays. This friendship played a significant role in her acting career. In 1992, Conroy married actor Jan Munro.
Conroy has a pretty impressive movie record. On television, she became very popular thanks to the series “The Client is Always Dead”, where she played the role of Ruth Fisher. Frances starred in it from 2001 to 2005, and this work earned her four Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe Award as the best actress of a drama series.
