It is a love story between a prostitute and an artist. It was one of the first German films to break several taboos: nudity, suicide and euthanasia. In the Germany of the '50s, this caused a lot of negative reactions by the politicians and the Roman Catholic Church. The opposition reached the degree of banning the film and scandalizing it which paradoxically made it one of the landmarks in the history of film. close

Marika Reck ("The Girl of My Dreams"), Elizabeth Marcus ("Then"), Walter Giller ("The Queen of Bees") in the musical comedy "Sensation in San Remo." Cornelia (Marica Rekk) leads a double life: by day she is a prim teacher in a women's gymnasium, and in the evening - a frivolous singer in a nightclub and this "immodest" work helps her family survive. The girl carefully hides her additional earnings from her colleagues at school and her relatives, who, however, themselves are a little “jocked” in their spare time. One day things start to spiral out of control when Cornelia falls in love with a famous composer and conductor and travels with him to a song contest in San Remo. In trouble, the headmaster of her school, who came to the teachers' conference, settles in the same hotel. This story has a good ending, because the heroine’s dreams will come true – she will become a famous singer, besides the wife of a popular composer and director. “Sensation in San Remo” meets all the criteria of musical cinema of the fifties and is one of the best musical films in Germany. This is the fourth post-war film by Marika Reck, an actress with a tireless character who always works with extreme tension. In the fifties, she was as popular as she was when she was the star of Nazi Germany. And, as before, there are countless performances, concerts, films, tours, recordings on the radio. To the credit of the great actress, Marika Reck did not star in any Nazi film with a political coloring. close
