The relationship between a man and a woman at all times served as an inexhaustible source of inspiration for artists. A great variety of works of literature, music, painting and cinema were inspired by real love stories. Tristan and Isolde, Dante and Beatrice, Paris and Elena the Beautiful – for us they are inextricably connected with the all-consuming, piercing feeling that determined their fate. Hundreds of years have passed since these people lived and loved, but almost every inhabitant of our planet knows their names. However, even in our century, there are events that prove that love is the most real and expensive thing that a person has. The story told in the film “An Interrupted Flight” is a confirmation of this.
A young, promising boxer meets an aspiring ballerina, a beautiful and tender girl. There is sympathy between young people, which quickly develops into a great and sincere feeling. But on the way of lovers there is an unexpected obstacle in the form of the girl’s father – a rich and powerful man who occupies not the last place in the city. He does not approve of the choice of his daughter and puts the guy before a choice: either he retreats from her, or he and his loved ones are in great trouble. The young man is not going to give up his beloved and therefore after a while he turns out to be the main character of the criminal story. To avoid danger and get out of the control of their parents, young people decide to leave the country and take tickets for the Yerevan-Sochi flight. So the love story of ordinary boys and girls became part of the tragedy that struck several countries.
The film is based on the fateful events that occurred on the night of May 3, 2006 over the Black Sea. Then the A-320, flying from Armenia to Russia, could not land and crashed, crashing on the water surface. All passengers and crew members - more than a hundred people - died on the spot. One of the passengers of this plane was the beloved woman, who told the story that served as the basis of the plot. According to the filmmakers, Interrupted Flight is the first attempt to produce a modern Armenian drama.
The film was directed by Elena Arshakyan. This project can be considered her directorial debut (before it there was only a not very popular series “Anna”). The film starred Tatev Ovakimyan, Tigran Makaryan, Serzh Avedikyan, Louise Gambaryan, Arpine Israelyan. close

A beautiful girl named Sasha from Russia comes to Armenia. Born between Russian father and Armenian mother, Sasha is searching for the grave of her father who died in the Karabakh War. Karabakh, which was the territory of the Azerbaijani Republic during the Soviet Union’s collapse, has many Armenian residents. At the time, Armenians demanded their independence from Azerbaijani Republic and the subsequent conflict caused heavy casualties. Many Russian soldiers also lost their lives in the war. In the scene that camera quietly crosses the border from Armenia, the director presents an image of each side of the people communicating with one another despite their own wounds instead of one pointing a gun at the other side. close

Made in wartime and edited in candlelight, Mikhail Vartanov's rarely-seen masterpiece tells about his friendship with the genius Sergei Parajanov who was imprisoned by KGB "at the peak of his artistic power". Vartanov takes us back with the scenes from his censored 1969 film The Color of Armenian Land where Paradjanov is at work on his suppressed chef-d'oeuvre The Color of Pomegranates - widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time - and contrasts it with the shocking request Parajanov sent him in unpublished 1974 letters from the Soviet prisons. Vartanov's camera documents Parajanov's striking last day at work in 1990 during the making of the unfinished Confession. A monumental wordless montage - the entire sixth reel - concludes Vartanov's acclaimed documentary, which, despite the prohibitive conditions it was created in, won the admiration of many of cinema's greatest artists, including Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese. close
