In 1964, the French director Henri-Georges Clouseau began work on the main project of his life. The film "L'enfer" ("Hell") was to become a new word in film aesthetics and open the viewer to the unknown abyss of insanity and obsession of man. The director wanted to tell not just a story about jealousy, but to take this ugly side of passion under the microscope, study its irrational mechanism thoroughly, go to the depths of the human soul and open the ulcer of this ruthless and uncontrollable feeling.
The film “Hell” was supposed to be a continuation of the kinetic experiments of Victor Vasarely, the founder of the art movement op-art. The film was supposed to sound the music of the German avant-garde Stockhausen. But the sensation never happened.
The movie was like a curse. The first screenwriter even before the start of filming had a heart attack. Clouseau himself worked on the verge of breakdown: shortly before filming, his mother died, he suffered from depression and had to work for wear, controlling three film crews at once. Then in the hospital was the performer of the main male role Serge Regjani. We had to find a replacement. But even before the actor Jean-Louis Trintignan was able to start working, the director himself was hospitalized with a heart attack. Clouseau survived. Filming was interrupted once and for all. The filmed material – about 15 hours – was sent for storage in the archive, where it lay for almost half a century. The copyright situation was confusing and no one could access the film.
Only relatively recently, thanks to the assistance of Clouseau’s widow, a French passionate cinephile and collector Serge Bromberg acquired the rights to the secret film. In December 2007, fragments of an unfinished film were shown at the Louvre.

In this occasionally amusing frolic, Gina Lollobrigida plays a sexy widow who returns to Italy from New York following the death of her husband. Her wealth and good looks entice all the men in her small village except for the one she really wants, the town blacksmith (Dale Robertson). Giuseppe Rotunno's warm cinematography and the irresistible Lollobrigida make this one worth seeing, while the screenplay (by Ettore Margadonna, Luciana Corda, and Joseph Stefano) manages to be clever without being smirky. Look for a funny bit by Vittorio DeSica, who supervised some scenes, as a loquacious priest. This film is also known as both Anna of Brooklyn and Fast and Sexy. close
