500 Nations is an eight-part documentary on the Native Americans of North and Central America. It documents from pre-Columbian to the end of the 19th century. Much of the information comes from text, eyewitnesses, pictorials, and computer graphics. The series was hosted by Kevin Costner, narrated by Gregory Harrison, and directed by Jack Leustig. It included the voice talents of Eric Schweig, Gordon Tootoosis, Wes Studi, Cástulo Guerra, Tony Plana, Edward James Olmos, Patrick Stewart, Gary Farmer, Tom Jackson, Tantoo Cardinal, Dante Basco, Sheldon Peters Wolfchild, Tim Bottoms, Michael Horse, Graham Greene, Floyd Red Crow Westerman, Amy Madigan, Frank Salsedo, and Kurtwood Smith. The series was written by Jack Leustig, Roberta Grossman, Lee Miller, and W. T. Morgan, with Dr. John M. D. Pohl.
"The truth is, we have a story worth talking about. We have a history worth celebrating. Long before the first Europeans arrived here, there were some 500 nations already in North America. They blanketed the continent from coast to coast, from Central America to the Arctic. There were tens of millions of people here, speaking over 300 languages. Many of them lived in beautiful cities, among the largest and most advanced in the world. In the coming hours, 500 Nations looks back on those ancient cultures, how they lived, and how many survived.... What you're about to see is what happened. It's not all that happened, and it's not always pleasant. We can't change that. We can't turn back the clock. But we can open our eyes and give the first nations of this land the recognition and respect they deserve: their rightful place in the history of the world." Kevin Costner close

A documentary by a special correspondent! Directorate of information broadcasting NTV Alexei Pobortsev. The war in Chechnya began ten years ago, and the question of the causes of this fateful event is still open. Alexei Pobortsev’s film is an attempt to get closer to understanding the “Chechen problem”, to find the origins of the terrible war. The film includes unique testimonies of the participants of the events of those years and interviews with politicians and generals - with those who made the main decisions, on whom depended, how the situation around Chechnya would develop. One of the key figures of the time - Dzhokhar Dudayev - appears before us in the memories of people who are well acquainted with the rebellious general. The film uses footage from private archives never before shown on television. Episode 1. Why did everything swing... The declaration on the state sovereignty of Chechnya was adopted under the communist leadership of the republic. And no one in Moscow or Grozny imagined how independence would turn out. In 1991, retired General Dzhokhar Dudayev was elected president of Chechnya. In the same year, the federal government attempted to declare a state of emergency. Meanwhile, after the robbery of the secret downturns of UT, the supporters of the new president fall into the hands of weapons and ammunition for an entire regiment. Episode 2. The number of Russian banks in Chechnya in different ways received billions of rubles. With this money, Dudayev created his own armed forces. This army had no problems with ammunition - the weapons of the former Soviet army fell into the hands of the separatists. Moscow did not notice or pretend that nothing was happening. In the end, an attempt was made to resolve the situation. Episode 3. New Year’s Eve, the assault on Grozny, the tragedy of the Maikop Brigade, the Dudayev regime is gaining strength. Russian refugees from Chechnya talk about rampant crime and violence. Moscow, concerned about what is happening, decides to start a war - of all possible options chosen the most brutal way. The film contains unique testimonies of participants of the Security Council meeting, which decided to start hostilities. Then the fate of thousands of people was decided in 10 minutes1 during the break. But no one could imagine the consequences of the introduction of troops. Episodes 4 and 5. The first Chechen company lasted almost two years. A bloody war whose aims are not understood by ordinary people. The presidential election was approaching. In order to stay in the presidency, Yeltsin had to stop the war. How they tried to do it, tells the two serial film "Beyond the war. Khasavyurt." The first attempts to negotiate with the separatists. Meeting in the Kremlin and Yeltsin’s trip to Ch1echko, where he was preparing an assassination attempt. Why, despite the negotiations, the militants captured Grozny? Anne Frank: The Whole Story is a two-part mini-series based on the book Anne Frank: The Biography by Melissa Müller. The mini-series aired on ABC on May 20 and 21, 2001. The series starred Ben Kingsley, Brenda Blethyn, Hannah Taylor-Gordon, and Lili Taylor. Controversially, but in keeping with the claim made by Melissa Müller, the series asserts that the anonymous betrayer of the Frank family was the office cleaner, when in fact the betrayer's identity has never been established. A disagreement between the producers of the mini-series and the Anne Frank Foundation about validity of this and other details led to the withdrawal of their endorsement of the dramatization, which prevented the use of any quotations from the writings of Anne Frank appearing within the production. Hannah Taylor-Gordon received both Golden Globe and Emmy Award nominations for her performance as Anne Frank, while Ben Kingsley won a Screen Actor's Guild Award for his performance as Otto Frank, Anne's father. close
