City of Angels Criminal Police
My favorite actor Russell Crowe, of course, had before that good roles in the movies, in the same films “What we stand in life” and “Skins”, but I still consider his first big role in the film “Secrets of Los Angeles”. I just couldn't miss it.
The plot of the film revolves around a mass murder in a cafe, which is believed to be behind the mobster Miki Cohen. In the course of the investigation, all three detectives are involved in intricacies of new crimes and betrayals, which indicate that a mole has started in the police department.
I divide all detective films into two types: psychological and action detectives. First, the emphasis is on dialogues, reflections of the main characters, in general, on psychological aspects. The most striking example for me is the series of Soviet films about the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. In the second, the main characters usually say little, but do a lot. They are constantly running around, hitting suspects with muzzles, in general, everything is based on action. Personally, I can’t decide which movies are best for me. On the one hand, I do not like when too much talk, because of which the movie becomes tedious, on the other hand, I, again, do not like when too much "run" because of which the movie becomes too meaningless.
But in this case, I did not have to choose. This is perhaps the most striking example of a film in which these two types of detectives are combined. There’s great dialogue and acting (mostly Kevin Spacey), but there’s also a lot of action and the same shootout (mostly Russell Crowe). So fans of definitely one of these genres can safely watch this film, as the best qualities of these two genres harmoniously coexist in the film “Secrets of Los Angeles”. The main theme of the film, in my opinion, is that the director wanted to show that most of the police are no different from criminals, that they act in the same robbery methods as people who break the law. The most characteristic episode is when the hero of Russell Crowe broke into the house, seeing that the criminal was unarmed, still killed him, and arranged everything as if it was self-defense.
Well, if you look at it in real life. That’s what it is like in this movie. The police are very violent. I think if there's a token, it means they're allowed everything. The image of Russell Crowe, in my opinion, is a collective image of all these “guardians of the law”.
Talking about actors. As I said, this movie has quite a star cast. No one is yet particularly famous Russell Crowe, Kevin Spacey, Guy Pearce, Kim Basinger. I especially liked Russell Crowe in this movie. Largely because of his image. As I said, in my opinion, this is a collective image of the police of those years (and not only). Of course, there were dozens of police officers in the movies, but no one played them as true as Crowe. And the episode with the broken chair is just brilliant. I'd also single out Kevin Spacey. He has always had glamorous roles. In the film, he played a glamorous police officer. He played very well and was also quite believable. After all, it is not on the same Brad Wajdas that the City of Angels police are kept. Masterpiece. A masterpiece. I would even say this is one of my favorite detectives. The only downside is that I didn’t really like the love line, which, in my opinion, was superfluous here. Everything else is perfectly done. Original
