I watched, finally, a very popular and highly appreciated by both viewers and critics, the American series “Heirs” / Succession, 2018-2023, season 4, 39 episodes. Despite the fact that I actually love the genre of satire, in which, mainly, this series was shot, I watched it with some difficulty and I can not say that I initially experienced some enthusiasm. Yes, shot well and in detail, yes, good actors were filmed, yes, good musical accompaniment, which is not very common in such films and TV series. But still somewhat strained the concentration of bastards in one segment, we are shown in this series, except that you could “enjoy” their diversity. Initially, the creator of the series wanted to shoot a series about the Murdoch dynasty, but something didn’t work out there, he rewrote the script, inspired by other families of media moguls, and then everything worked out. The main character is the famous media mogul Logan Roy (Scottish actor Brian Cox), who owns all possible types of media, and his family, first of all, are his four children from two marriages - from his first marriage he has a son Connor (Alan Cancer), from his second marriage three children - Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Roman (Kiran Culkin) and Shiv (Sarah Snook), they are joined by the arrogant, but not very intelligent, grandnephew Logan Greg (Nicholas Brown) and husband Shiv Tom (Matthew McFady). Once a native of the Scottish hinterland, Logan is now rich, has become a billionaire, runs a huge media empire with his rather harsh methods, no one especially tries to contradict him until he has a stroke. And this is where his entourage, primarily the children, show their power ambitions, trying to push his father to the leading role in the company, especially in this case zealous Kendall, who wants to take his place, considering himself the best candidate. But, as they say, man assumes, and God disposes, this time their plans fall to dust – both because of the fact that Logan’s health still improves, and because Ken gets into trouble because of his bad inclinations (drug addiction). Their inclinations there are not all very healthy, the lexicon is also replete with obscene expressions. For a while, Logan still reigns, but this comes to an end, and the race to the throne begins again, everyone tries to outsmart the other, everyone lies to each other, commits all sorts of meanness and betrayal, but this is in their order, although they try to shame each other. The end is predictable – this time the winner is the one who turned out to be the most quirky and big adapter. So I watched these spiders in a huge jar, and I became increasingly disgusted with the characters. If the series were a little shorter, it might not have made such a painful impression, and by the end I was very tired. I understand that this is most likely the case in these circles, both media and political, which are also depicted with no less satirical message, but what is called “my eyes would not see this”, it would be easier to live, and so imbued with more and more pessimism.
