Jonathan Safran Foer was born on February 21, 1977 in the United States (Washington, D.C.) into a Jewish family. From an early age, Jonathan was sensitive and emotional. At the age of 8, he had a nervous breakdown due to an accident at school, in chemistry class. After graduating from high school, Jonathan became a student at Princeton University, in 1995 he entered a writing course under Joyce Carol Oates. The teacher drew attention to the originality of Jonathan's style. She helped him to realize himself as a writer, and helped during the creation of his essay on the life of his grandfather. For this story, Jonathan received a university prize.
In 1999, Foer graduated from the institute with a degree in philosophy. He went to Ukraine to complete his book about his grandfather, who came from these places. His fascinating journey through Ukrainian places was reflected in the novel “Everything is illuminated”, which was published in 2002. This book won the writer the National Jewish Book Award. In 2005, the book was filmed by director Lev Schreiber, the main role in this film (Jonathan Foer himself) was played by the famous Elijah Wood. Foer’s second work, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, was published in 2005. This novel uses unconventional and unusual writing techniques.
The unusual novel was much discussed, it caused completely diametric reviews, ranging from admiration and ending with deep criticism. The novel was a huge success, it was published and translated in many European countries. Jonathan's books "Full Illumination", "Code Tree", "Meat. Eating Animals" are among the most discussed today. His works are fascinating not by genre and plot, but by a unique style and unusual manner of presentation. Foer’s novels are called “the work of a genius, after acquaintance with which everything becomes different.”
Jonathan Foer currently lives with his wife, writer Nicole Krauss, in Brooklyn, New York. They have two children. Jonathan, despite his young age, is rightfully considered one of the brightest and most noticeable contemporary writers.
