Born in the town of Mark (Somerset County) in the family of a professional military man. He studied at Oxford Braisnose College, then received a diploma of a sports coach. Since 1968, almost from school, he became chairman of the board of his own firm Arrow Enterprises, a year later he was elected to the English Parliament, where he spent five years. Subsequently, he held a number of not less significant positions, including in 1985-1986, he was deputy chairman of the Conservative Party (under the patronage of Margaret Thatcher, a great admirer of Archer’s work). Since 1984, Archer has been Honorary President of the Linguistic Society at the University of Glasgow.
Archer turned to literature when he was forced to leave Parliament - he found himself in debt because of an unsuccessful commercial deal and decided to "paper his experience in edifying others." The novel was published in the US and instantly became a bestseller, and the next book allowed Archer to pay off all his debts. By that time, according to his own words, he was so fond of writing that he could not stop. As a result, to date, more than twenty novels have been released from the pen of Jeffrey Archer.
In 1993, Jeffrey Archer was elected to the House of Lords.
