Alexander Aleksandrovich Alov (real surname - Lapsker) was born in Ukraine in Kharkov on September 26, 1923. In the war years he served at the front, but in his youth he dreamed of cinema.
The dream was realized only in 1951, when Alexander Alexandrovich graduated from the directing faculty of VGIK. He studied at the course of I.A. Savchenko, one of the most outstanding masters. The dream was realized only in 1951, when Alexander Alexandrovich graduated from the directing faculty of VGIK. He studied at the course of I.A. Savchenko, one of the most outstanding masters. After graduating from the Institute for six years (1951-1957) worked as a director of the film studio named after A.P. Dovzhenko. Alexander Alov assisted his teacher on the set of the film The Third Strike, was his assistant in the film Taras Shevchenko. This work after the death of the maestro was completed by two of his most talented students - Alexander Alov and Vladimir Naumov.
After the filming of Taras Shevchenko, both directors began to work in a fruitful creative union. Together, Alov and Naumov staged a film based on the novel by V. Belyaev
Alarming youth" about the feat of the Komsomol members of Ukraine during the Civil War, then staged the film “Pavel Korchagin”, based on the cult novel “How steel was hardened” by N. Ostrovsky.
Since 1957, Alov and Naumov became directors of the Mosfilm film studio. In 1959, they made their own film.

Friends, having worked together for a quarter of a century and becoming eminent masters, did not part at the teaching department. Since 1980, they have been managing a workshop in VGIK.
A.A. Alov died on June 12, 1983 in Riga. He was buried in Moscow at the Vagankovo cemetery.
