Louis Malle was born in the French town of Thumeries (Department Nord). His parents were wealthy enough to give each of their seven children a decent education. Apparently, therefore, their fifth son Louis, before beginning to study the wisdom of cinematic art, received the profession of political scientist.
His development as a director was greatly influenced by his participation in Cousteau’s two-year expedition. The result of this voyage was the film “In the World of Silence”, which the aspiring director shot together with Cousteau; the film was awarded the “Golden Palm” of the Cannes Film Festival and the “Oscar” award, Louis Malou at this point was only twenty-four years old.
His first independent directorial work was the tape.

"Lovers" (1958). Sexual “raid”, which was clearly visible in these paintings, caused a wave of discontent and bewilderment: in the late 50s, this could be considered as a bad tone and an insult to public morality.
