Alexander Fedorovich Hvan was born in 1957 in Cheboksary. He went to art school. The director gained fame in 1992, when Alexander Hwan shot the film “Duba-Duba” with Oleg Menshikov in the title role. "Duba Duba" was awarded the prize of the film press for the best debut and successfully participated in several film festivals, including in Cannes. He also wrote the music for this film. Then Hwan took part in the creation of the film almanac "The Arrival of the Train", which became a kind of manifesto of young Russian film directors. In 1998, he directed the psychological thriller “Good Bull, Bad Bull.”
