Borgnine comes from a family of immigrants from Italy. His parents moved to the United States from Italy. When Ernest was two years old, the parents of the future star divorced, and the boy and his mother returned to Italy for a while. However, five years later, they returned to Connecticut, where Borgnine began to study at a comprehensive school.
After graduating from school, Ernest enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1935 to 1941. He was released from military duties, but for a short time. World War II broke out, and Borgnine was forced to continue his service. Ernest was demobilized in high rank. After the service, he decided to continue his studies, enrolling in the Drama School in Connecticut and successfully graduating from it.
Later, Borgnine got a job in the Virginia theater, where he talentedly performed various roles. The quality of the acting drew attention, and in 1949 he made his debut on Broadway in one of the fashion plays.
