Alaya (full name Alaya or Alia Dana Houghton) was born on January 16, 1979. Her parents, Michael and Diane, who lived in Brooklyn, New York, had another child, Rashad. At the age of five, she and her family moved to Detroit. Since Alaya’s mother, Diane, was a singer, and her uncle was a famous lawyer in the world of show business, by the 11th year of her life, Alaya managed to sing with Knight at several concerts.
At the age of 14, the actress recorded her first album, to the creation of which the producer and singer R. Kelly had a hand. Thanks to the talent of the singer and the participation of the celebrity, many singles were very successful. After a while, it turned out that Alaya and Kelly were connected not only by business relations. A marriage certificate was found, which stated that the bride had already turned 18, and the artists registered the marriage in 1994 on August 31, and the city of the ceremony was Rosemont, located in Illinois. Alaya's parents were rumored to have annulled the marriage in 1995, but the couple insisted they were not married.
Before graduating from the Detroit School of Arts, the singer managed to record another album and several successful singles, but immediately after their release she engaged in acting, playing herself in the film “Undercover Cops”. Around the same time, Alaya recorded a song for the animated film about the Russian princess Anastasia, which she performed at the Oscars, becoming the youngest singer to do so. The debut film for Alaya was the film Romeo Must Die, which was later recorded the album of the same name. Immediately after the filming of the video for him, she began to star in the film “Queen of the Damned”, and after that she was going to play in the film “The Matrix”, but these plans were not destined to come true.
