Saul Zaentz is a major American film producer, three times winner of the Oscar award. The filmmaker was born on February 28, 1921 in a family of Jewish immigrants in New Jersey. During World War II he was in the military, and after demobilizing, settled in San Francisco, first worked for a local music distributor and eventually joined the jazz label Fantasy Records. The filmmaker was born on February 28, 1921 in a family of Jewish immigrants in New Jersey. During World War II he was in the military, and after demobilizing, settled in San Francisco, first worked for a local music distributor and eventually joined the jazz label Fantasy Records.
Working for him as a salesman and manager over the years, he has learned the importance of having good relationships with suppliers and distributors. This approach greatly influenced his work in the film business. Together with a group of colleagues, Saul bought Fantasy Records in 1967. This studio was a successful independent record label, but Zantz wanted more – he wanted to make films.
After the success of 1975,
Flying over the cuckoo's nest After winning an Oscar, the producer was able to remain independent of Hollywood, creating the films he wanted to make. He received another Oscar for the film also directed by Milos Foreman, this time it became Amadeus. And in 1997, the “English Patient” perfectly showed itself, which brought the producer the third Oscar.
The filmmaker died on January 3, 2014.
