In this and in the next film - "Introduction" (1962), awarded a special prize at the Venice Film Festival, the director showed the world through the prism of the perception of the young hero, which brought lyricism and soft humor to the style of films. In 1966, Igor Talankin filmed the book “Day Stars” by O. Berggoltz. In the late 1960s, the director turned to the genre of a biographical film, putting a picture about P.I. Tchaikovsky, and then about the nuclear physicist I.V. Kurchatov. In the future, filming works of Russian and Soviet literature ("Father Sergius" - according to L. Tolstoy, "Starfall" - according to V. Astafyev, "Demons (Nikolai Stavrogin)" - according to F. Dostoevsky), the director chose as the main character a strong, spiritualized personality, usually in a state of internal search and conflict.

Co-author of scripts for a number of films. Since 1964, Igor Talankin taught at VGIK, since 1976 - professor.
