Antonina Nikolaevna Shuranova was born on April 30, 1936 in Sevastopol (Ukraine). The early childhood of the future people’s artist passed in the Crimea. Later, after lifting the blockade, the family moved to Leningrad. Tonya graduated only seven classes of secondary school, then studied at a technical school: it was necessary to get a working specialty rather than to feed the family.
The future artist worked as a gardener, but at the same time did not forget about her big dream - to serve art.

Antonina Nikolaevna Shuranova was born on April 30, 1936 in Sevastopol (Ukraine). The early childhood of the future people’s artist passed in the Crimea. Later, after lifting the blockade, the family moved to Leningrad. Tonya graduated only seven classes of secondary school, then studied at a technical school: it was necessary to get a working specialty rather than to feed the family.
The future artist worked as a gardener, but at the same time did not forget about her big dream - to serve art. Antonina managed to attend art history classes in the Hermitage, studied vocals, took part in productions of the Hermitage Theatre.
The girl clearly had artistic abilities: the Leningrad Theatre Institute named after A.N. Ostrovsky submitted to Antonina Shuranova on the first attempt. She began to study at the course of T. Soynikova.
After graduating from the institute in 1962, the actress served in the Leningrad Theatre of Young Spectators named after A.A. Bryantsev, there she met with her love: her future husband Alexander Khochinsky was an actor of the same theater. Suranova and Khochinsky worked together until 1988.
Antonina Suranova has always considered herself more a theater artist than a movie. She was convinced that her face was not photogenic. But the directors thought otherwise: her bright screen images were remembered by the audience and immediately “recorded” Shuranov among the outstanding film actresses.
The film debut took place in 1967, when Shuranova, while still a fourth-year student of the Theatre Institute, played Princess Maria Bolkonskaya in the legendary film.
