Vytautas Pranovich Žalakevicius was born on April 14, 1930 in the Lithuanian capital Kaunas. In 1948-1950 he studied at Kaunas University, and in 1956 he graduated from the directorial faculty of VGIK, where he studied in the studio of Mikhail Chiaureli. Vytautas Pranovich Žalakevicius was born on April 14, 1930 in the Lithuanian capital Kaunas. In the history of Soviet cinema, the name of Vytautas Zhalakevichius is inextricably linked with such a film "Nobody Wanted to Die." This dramatic film story about the life of a post-war Lithuanian village, released in 1965, became the largest work of the director, and the main roles in the film were played by Donatas Banionis, Juozas Budraitis, Regimantas Adomaitis, Algimantas Masiulis. In the work of Vytautas Žalakevicius, the theme of history, revolution and man was also reflected in such notable films as “This sweet word is freedom” and “Centaurs”.
