Eric Lawson became famous all over the world thanks to the image he embodied in advertising for smokers Marlboro. The brutal cowboy, who appeared on screens and billboards from 1978 to 1981, will forever remain in the memory of many people, regardless of whether they are smokers or not. The actor managed to prove to the whole world that filter cigarettes are smoked by real men, and not only by women who prefer the lighter option.
Lawson, according to his wife Susan, began smoking at the age of 14 and could not get rid of this bad habit until the last days of his life. The actor smoked even after he was diagnosed with a serious lung disease in adulthood, although he took part in an anti-smoking campaign - a parody of Marlboro advertising.
The cowboy is a central figure in Eric Lawson’s career. In addition, he participated in the filming of several famous series, such as
"Dynasty" .
Malibu Rescuers .
"Charlie's Angels" .
The actor had to finish his film career in 1997, after a serious injury received during the filming of the Western.
Eric Lawson died on January 10, 2014 at his home in San Luis Obispo, California, at the age of 72 from chronic lung disease caused by long-term smoking. By the way, Lawson became the fourth victim in a series of actors who starred in Marlboro advertising: before him, Wayne McLaren, David McMen and Dick Hammer died of lung cancer.
After him, Eric Lawson left a large friendly family: a wife who became a widow, six children, eighteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
