Philip Michael Ondaatje (sometimes Ondaatje, according to the Dutch origin of the surname, Michael Ondaatje; born September 12, 1943, Colombo, Sri Lanka) is a Canadian writer and poet. He is best known for his novel The English Patient, which won the Booker Prize. Also on this novel was shot the film of the same name, which was awarded the Oscar.
