Since childhood, Johanna (Johanna Wokalek, born March 3, 1975) was fond of theater and first appeared on the stage during her studies at the Friedrich Gymnasium, participating in the play of the school theater. Immediately after graduation, she entered the theater studio for the course of Klaus Maria Brandauer.
In 1996, Johanna Vocalek made her theatrical debut on a “serious” stage – at a theater festival in Vienna, where she played a role in Paulus Manker’s play Alma – End Show Biz. Later, in 1999, she played the role of Alma in the film. And between these two dates, Johanna played the role of Polly in Brecht’s Threepenny Opera in one of the most famous theaters in the world – Burgtheater. She also appeared on the set for the first time, playing the role of a maid in the film Aimee and the Jaguar directed by Max Fairberbeck. Soon after, Johanna signed a contract with Schauspiel Bonn and left school for work.
Soon Johanna Vocalek returned to Vienna and began to play in the troupe “Burgtheater”, where she was given the role of Nina in Chekhov’s “The Seagull”.
In 2002, Hans Steinbachler’s film Hirancle was released. The role in this film became for Johanna star: she received several awards, including the most prestigious award of German cinema “Adolf Grimme Award”.
But the greatest audience love, perhaps, enjoys a romantic
comedy "Barefoot on the pavement" with Johanna Vocalek in the lead role. For her role as Leila, a “romantic simpleton” who escaped from a psychiatric clinic, Vocalek was named “Best Actress” at Golden Kamera in 2006.
One of the popular films with the participation of Vocalek is “John – a woman on the papal throne”. The film is based on a fiction novel, but historians claim that it describes real events. /
