Richard Hageman is an American conductor, pianist, composer and actor of Dutch origin. Richard was born on July 9, 1881 in Leeuwarden. Since childhood, he demonstrated excellent musical abilities, was a small child prodigy who conquered others with his piano playing at the age of 6. He studied in Belgium and Amsterdam as a young man and accompanied the opera singers of the Netherlands Opera, where he was artistic director from 1899 to 1903. Richard Hageman is an American conductor, pianist, composer and actor of Dutch origin.
Richard was born on July 9, 1881 in Leeuwarden. Since childhood, he demonstrated excellent musical abilities, was a small child prodigy who conquered others with his piano playing at the age of 6. He studied in Belgium and Amsterdam as a young man and accompanied the opera singers of the Netherlands Opera, where he was artistic director from 1899 to 1903. In 1906, together with the singer Yvette Gilber went on tour to the United States, where he remained.
In different years, he was conductor and pianist of the Metropolitan Opera, music director of the Chicago City Opera, guest conductor of orchestras in Chicago, Philadelphia and Los Angeles, held summer concerts of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and from 1938 to 1943 – summer concerts in the Hollywood Bowl concert hall.
At the same time, Haigman worked extensively in film as an actor and composer, where he is best known for his collaboration with director John Ford in his films of the late 1930s and 1940s. Richard has been nominated for an Oscar five times, winning the award once for the Western soundtrack.
