Polad first appeared on the stage at the age of fifteen, accompanying his famous father. When he was seventeen years old, the whole USSR sang his songs “Song of Sumgait”, “Good morning”, “Song of Moscow”. The young composer dedicated some of his works to his friend Muslim Magomayev. Ogly graduated from the Azerbaijan State Conservatory named after Uzeyir Hajibeyov. And at the age of 25, the young composer was elected a member of the Union of Composers and Cinematographers of the USSR.
In the seventies Bul-Bul-oglu was extremely popular. He represented his republic with dignity both at home and abroad. In 1976, he created and headed the Pop Ensemble of the Azerbaijan SSR, having visited all major cities of the Union and seventy countries of the world. In addition, he was a great actor and starred in several films - "Tales of the Russian Forest", "Rhythms of Absheron", "Margarita Rages", "On the Wings of Song",

His ringing lyrical tenor was constantly heard on radio and television. Modern songs in his performance acquired a kind of oriental flavor. In addition to pop melodies, the composer wrote symphonic works, chamber and instrumental music, as well as music for films and performances. His songs were performed by many stars of the 70-80s, such as Roxana Babayan, Lev Leshchenko, Lyudmila Senchin, Joseph Kobzon, Muslim Magomayev. The title of People's Artist of Azerbaijan Bul-Bul-oglu was awarded in 1982.
In 1988, the composer was appointed Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan SSR. In 2000, Polad Bul-Bul-oglu was awarded the title of professor. In 2010, Ogly released the musical album "Pel Bul-Bul...". Polad Bul-Bul Ogly sings, where Azerbaijani folk songs are collected.
