Not everyone will be able to play the role of Judas 700 (!!) times. But the American actor and singer Carl Anderson (Carl Anderson) this task was on the shoulder.
He was born in February 1945 in Lynchburg, Virginia. While still a schoolboy, Carl enlisted in the US Air Force, later he served in the army for two years as a communications technician.
After returning from the service, Carl went to Washington, where he and his friends formed The Second Eagle. The young musicians performed jazz and rock songs, one of which was based on the music of the album Jesus Christ Superstar. He often performed in public places and witnessed one of these performances was a young talent agent, who immediately knew that he was facing a future star. It happened in 1971.
Broadway producers decided to put Carl on the role of Judas in the production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” when the main performer Ben Vereen fell ill. After Ben returned to the production, the role of Judas they played alternately, the audience was simply admired by the voice of Carl. He later took part in the filming of the same name.
The production was so successful that in the late seventies it was decided to resume in California, for the role of Judas, of course, Carl Anderson was again invited.
Also, the actor successfully starred in the films “Black Pearl” (1978), “Flowers of purple fields” (1985) and several TV projects.
In America, there is a tradition to arrange tours in honor of especially successful projects. In honor
Jesus Christ Superstar This tour was arranged twice and each time the famous performer of the part of Judas was invited. The first round was in 1992. The tour was planned to take place over three months, but in fact it stretched over five years; the show took place in more than fifty metropolitan North American states; fees amounted to more than a hundred million dollars. The second tour took place in 2002. Unfortunately, this time the festival of music was overshadowed by bad news - Karl was diagnosed with leukemia, and he was forced to stop touring.
The artist died in February 2004. /
