Marshall Herkowitz was born on February 23, 1952 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Marshall Herkowitz was born on February 23, 1952 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. He studied at Brandeis University, where he became interested in film art and wrote the script Beowulf in 1973 as a coursework. After graduating from university, Herkowitz directed the short film “In the Trail” (he was also its producer). Thanks to this work, he was admitted to the American Film Institute in 1975, where he received a master’s degree in film art three years later. For the next few years, Marshall Herkowitz worked in television, writing and directing television series, including The Family and The White Shadow. Together with Edward Zwick, he created the award-winning television film Special Edition, including two Emmys. Their collaboration on TV continued with great success. In 1992, Herkowitz directed the feature film Jack the Bear with Danny DeVito in the title role, and in 1993 he produced the drama Legends of Autumn with Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins. He continued to engage in television projects, and the director and producer returned to the big screen with the historical drama Honest Courtesan (1996). In 1998, Marshall Herkowitz became the producer of Steven Soderbergh’s film Traffic, which was marked by several Golden Globes and Oscars.
