Joe Flanigan was born in Los Angeles on January 5, 1967. At the age of six, the boy and his parents moved to a ranch near Reno (Nevada).
Life in the fresh air with its farm was liked by the Flanigan family. Joe was sent to the boarding school in Ohio (California), where he studied until the age of fourteen. Already in school years, Flagian took an active part in amateur theater productions. In the play by Tennessee Williams “Stream Desire” he played Stanley Kowalsky.
Joe then continued his studies at the University of Colorado, where he received a degree in history, and went on an exchange program to Paris for a year. Years at university were also connected to the stage. He played the role of Coriolanus in Shakespeare’s tragedy.
After graduating from college, Joe did not immediately connect his life with cinema. He tried his hand at many fields – journalism, banking, and even politics – but he wasn’t attracted to anything. After Flanigan was fired from Interview magazine, he became unemployed and moved to New York. Next door lived an actor who once invited him to try himself in this craft, and Joe took a chance.
Flanigan studied at the New York County Theatre. At first he worked in radio. In 1994, he was invited to the NBC miniseries Daniela Steele's Family Album.
Los Angeles became his next home, where the actor landed a regular role as a college student in the NBC series Sisters. The audience fell in love with the young actor and in the series “First Monday”.
After Joe received an invitation to the TV series “Murphy Brown”, “Birds of Prey”,
"Fair Amy" CSI: Miami, in several episodes in Cupid, Dawson's Creek, Providence, and The Killer Profile. He played leading roles in the television films No Need for Secrets 1997, The Other Sister (1999).
In 1995, Flanigan made his debut on the big screen in the movie Reason for Trust. From 2004 to 2009, Joe played the role of Major John Sheppard on Stargate Atlantis.
Joe Flangian is married to artist Katherine and they have three children. He loves skiing, cycling, surfing, mountaineering. He hates sailing, admitting that his biggest nightmare is being alone on the high seas. /
