Julian Dana William McMahon (born July 27, 1968) is an Australian Golden Globe-nominated actor best known for his role as plastic surgeon Christian Troy on the Nip/Tuck television show. McMahon was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, the second of three children of politician and subsequently Prime Minister William McMahon and Sonia McMahon (née Sonia Rachel Hopkins). He has an older sister Melinda and a younger sister Deborah. The McMahon family has Irish roots.
Julian studied law at the University of Sydney and economics at the University of Wollongong, but then got bored and began a modeling career, which brought him fame in the fashion capitals. Milan, New York, Rome and Paris.
In addition to his modeling career, which included starring in Levi Strauss commercials, Julian starred in the Australian TV series Home and Away, playing soldier Ben Lucini. He later appeared in Wet and Wild Summer! (also known as Exchange Lifeguards) in 1992, before appearing in videos for his future wife Danny Minogue's "This Is It" and "This Is The Way". His first role in American films was in the TV series Another World, followed by roles in the films Magenta, In Quiet Night (also called You Belong to Me Forever), Chasing Sleep and Another Day. McMahon appeared in Profiler, Charmed, Nip/Tuck. For his role in Nip/Tuck, Julian was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a TV Series. In one of the cut episodes of the series, Julian was filmed naked.
In the big-budget film Fantastic Four and its sequel, McMahon played the villain Victor von Doom. It is said that he was considered for the role of James Bond in Casino Royale, but the role was eventually given to Daniel Craig. In the thriller Premonition Julian played with Sandra Bullock.
McMahon was married twice, and divorced twice, first to Australian Danny Minogue, then to American actress Brooke Burns, with whom their daughter Madison Elizabeth was born on June 9, 2000. He also had an affair with Shannen Doherty of the Charmed Ones.
