This film was released at a time when it was popular to film teenage books, no matter what quality, and one of them was the book ' Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief' Rick Riordan. I will not compare this film with the book, but I will say that from this film adaptation fans about the boy demigod, and the author of the original books forget as a terrible dream.
Well, the film was directed by Chris Columbus, the man who shot the first two Harry Potter films and it seemed that the film would come out good, but no, it turned out another teenage film.
The laureate of this world is poorly written, as if he was invented by a teenager who thought it would be cool to make a story about the Greek gods, but he knew at least something about them only from the cartoon & #39; Hercules' from Disney. A lot of questions to him that will remain unanswered, like what will happen to a person who sees God in true form? This is the beginning of the movie, and there is one question.
The plot here is typical about not the same as in all the main character, which is spelled out at the level 'Face that always displays 'Wow!' and nothing more'. It is boring to watch, because it is predictable and boring, in 1 hour and 54 minutes a lot happened, but it is forgotten, except for the scene in the casino, it is good.
The actors played well, but their characters are so boring. Percy Jackson is a typical special, he has no interesting character and charisma, he is just boring and gray like concrete. I didn’t even remember the others, they were so boring and uninteresting.
The special effects of the film are good, they do not blow haphazard, but they do not cause wow effect.
Overall, this film is bad even apart from the book, because it is a typical teenage film on which no one wanted to try.
Attention: This review is about the film. I haven't read Rick Riordan's novel.
It is said that Rick Riordan, the author of the original book, has never seen this film adaptation. Well, he knows better, but I propose to evaluate the film purely in the context of cinema and in particular fantasy films, which had a big boom at the turn of the 2000s and 2010s. From which only fantasy tapes did the cinemas break then: "Harry Potter", "Prince of Persia", "The Apprentice of the Sorcerer", the third "The Chronicles of Narnia" and, of course, the remake "Battle of the Titans" - the closest "Percy Jackson" thematic work.
In many ways, “The Lightning Thief” is naive: the plot is built on the scheme of “Harry Potter”, which after years already looks pretty boring. However, in many aspects, this movie is no worse. It is often diluted with humor, and the presence of the gods gives the plot grandeur, grandeur. Sean Bean is a magnificent Zeus, and Steve Coogan is also a wonderful Hades. Partly for the sake of spectacle, partly for the sake of simplifying myths, the image of the latter undergoes changes. The Greeks thought Hades was not such an evil god, while here Hades appears to us, if not a demon, then some kind of balrog, all in fire and with wings, when not masquerading as a man. And of course, the kingdom of Hades is the real world of fire, the analogue of Christian hell. However, the filmmakers do not hide this, putting the appropriate words into Persephone’s mouth. And the director, by the way, is Chris Columbus, and that is why the film boasts great charm.
Revisiting Lightning Thieves as an adult, you feel a delicate tenderness in the relationship between parents and children. The feeling of abandonment and reconciliation attracts viewers no worse than mythical characters. If we discard the banal theme of the chosen one, then we will have a story about how children who have not received sufficient attention from their fathers or mothers harbor a great resentment against them. Whether they are demigods or not, they all go through trials, especially for those who are very young. Events and characters of myths, although different from the ancient originals, are very well woven into the American realities of the XXI century. Many will be made to smile or laugh at Hollywood’s connection to a particular place, as well as the Empire State Building and the mention of members of the government. Nice adaptation. I personally have complaints only to Cerberus: why do they not have three heads?
Probably for many, the main highlight of the film was Uma Thurman in the image of Gorgon-Medusa. The choice is really great, I am ready to applaud! The actress transforms to a reptilian almost literally , because, preparing for filming, Thurman watched trained snakes. It’s really nice to see Rosario Dawson as Persephone, and Jake Abel is very convincing to me. Nominated for “Breakthrough of the Year” was his, and not Logan Lerman, which is not bad, but only. By the way, Kevin McKid is also not very suitable for the role of Poseidon. Annabeth Chase (Alexandra Daddario) is pretty, but too faceless. This is a typical female character who accompany the main character only for the sake of a romantic line. Not bad, but nothing more. Perhaps such a moderate impression of the two main characters is the weakest side of the film. But we have Charon, played by Julian Richings! Better than the three-toed from the first "Turn the wrong way" this image would not embody.
By American blockbuster standards, this is a very good movie. For lovers of myths and fantasy films just right.
Once upon a time ' Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief' I thought it was a pretty good fantasy. Not the most original, but quite worthy of attention and at least a one-time viewing. Having decided to review and at the same time turn up the sequel, which at one time generally passed by me, I suddenly realized that the tape gives me almost no pleasure.
The plot revolves around the gods of Olympus and their internecine showdowns. Zeus has lost lightning, and to calm his anger, one Percy Jackson goes on a great adventure to find and return the stolen property to the owner. In combination, Percy is the son of Poseidon himself, and therefore in the shortest possible time he discovers incredible abilities, which he learns to manage in the shortest possible time.
And this is probably the first big problem of the tape. Percy Jackson is a natural ' Mary Su' in teenage guise. He succeeds the first time, and there is nothing beyond the power of the son of Poseidon. Watching such a character is completely uninteresting, he does not empathize, he does not cause any attachment to himself. It's a superpower.
Therefore, the adventures of Percy Jackson and his friends do not cause any emotions. Due to the excessive ideality of the character, there is no doubt at all that the golden boy will succeed, and it will turn out the first time.
The nondescript and boring main character is the company of about the same characters. Bright colors are made only by a faun performed by Brandon T. Jackson, which turned out to be perhaps the most colorful personality among the others. He is charismatic, he holds almost all the humor of the picture, and his energy Faun Grover makes the picture alive.
In secondary roles, a whole scatter of stars - Rosario Dawson, Sean Bean, Pierce Brosnan, Uma Thurman and a very young Alexandra Daddario. In fact, these are just big names. Each character appears on the screen a few minutes out of strength and serves only as a star cameo.
Visually ' Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief' already outdated due to rather cheap graphics. For the most part, the picture is not impressive, because you see all the falsities of what is happening. There are exceptions, such as a rather spectacular scene on the roof, which flashed in the trailers, but these are the exceptions.
Verdict: 'Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief' is a very weak and toothless fantasy that can satisfy only the very unassuming tastes of children. Although it is worth showing children a film with a jumping sexual overtones here and there. In the rest - a weak story, weak characters and time to outdated graphics. I don't recommend it.
This story interested me for a long time, but then I did not understand all the subtleties and features of theatrical and acting world. I looked at the world in a childish way and also evaluated all the work. But time passed and I revisited it again and was pleasantly surprised. The feeling that you get when you watch it unconsciously, in a childlike way, is very different from those that you get as an adult, because then you follow the development of events, acting, the plot line, the relationships of the characters in more detail.
I really like Logan Lerman playing the main character, Percy Jackson. He has this ability - for a long time to keep the attention of the audience in the hedgehog mittens. He holds up so well in the camera shot and exists in circumstances that it is breathtaking from one of his static poses. His interaction with other actors (characters) is so organic and natural that from the first seconds of the dialogue you begin to believe their speeches and give yourself to the process of cinema. Logan is a very skilled actor, he knows when to join, where to give what assessment, where to see what to do. His skill is at such a level that when you watch his improvisational moment, you do not immediately realize that it was not planned.
Despite the fact that the film is a mystic-mythological genre (Myths about the Gods of Olympus), and the fact that it is more like a fairy tale, does not mean that it does not have really real problems and themes. The topic of friendship is at least very detailed here.
Grover and Percy are the standard of true friendship, where each will lay bones for the life of the other, as it happened many times in different parts of this film.
There is also a love theme here. Partners-actors feel each other, they know what sign and when to submit, how to behave in certain circumstances.
I also want to say that the magical component of this film does not lead the idea of the work into a fairy-tale, children’s world, but on the contrary adds entertainment, picturesqueness and colorfulness. Thanks to computer graphics, all monsters and other animals exist quite realistically with the characters-actors, diluting their game. This makes you keep the viewer’s attention even longer, plus it helps you to feel the situation and get even more faith in the environment.
In my opinion, this film is worth watching, because there are really important moments for understanding and understanding.
As a true fan of the Percy Jackson books, I'll say this: it doesn't fit into any box. Of course, I understand that when you watch a movie based on a book, you should not expect that everything will be exactly the same, but this is already too much.
The first thing to note is the age of the characters. In the book, Percy and Annabeth are 12 years old and behave exactly as they should. In the film, they took 16-year-old actors and told them to mimic the character and behavior of the children. At least that’s what it looks like.
The next thing that shocked me and all the fans is that Annabeth is here. All her life Annabeth was considered a stupid blonde because of her hair color, she had to prove everything and win respect, and this formed her strong character. It wasn't shown here. Her preferences in clothes, in weapons - all this was simply ignored! Where are her eyes, dark gray like storm clouds? Where's the dagger she loved so much? Annabeth has never fought with loose hair, it's stupid and uncomfortable!
And that phrase -- it really pissed me off: "I have a strong feeling for you, but I don't know yet whether it's positive or negative." Where is everyone’s favorite “When you sleep, you drool!”, where did the legendary phrase with which their story began?
If I began to describe all the differences between the film and the book and the huge plot holes, the site would simply begin to glittle with an overabundance of information. I express my opinion about the similarity with Harry Potter, about the main character, and, finally, about one of the plot holes.
Many people compare Percy Jackson to Harry Potter, but they forget one very important detail. Harry Potter is a novel with a major focus on the detective. Heroes most of the time look for something, find out, and fight only at the end. Percy Jackson, in turn, is more of an action movie. From the beginning there are battles, then a little peace reading while Percy is in the camp, and again fights.
However, there is one similarity - more precisely, a common flaw in the films. Harry and Percy have both been stripped of their unique eye color. Where? I ask, where did these beautiful sea-wave eyes (green, if anything) with which he conquered Annabeth's proud temper? Not them! And they were replaced with blue eyes that kind of accentuate his element. If the creators of Harry Potter had good reasons to leave Daniel’s natural color behind, what prevented Logan from wearing eye color-shifting lenses is something I don’t understand (but I assume the reason may be equally compelling). I am silent about his black, like a crow's wing, disheveled hair, which in the film, of course, is not.
There are no complaints to the actors, they played their roles perfectly. Good graphics, great shot, everything is fine, except for details and plot holes.

I am not a big fan of such fantastic films. But I love it when they weave mythology into modern realities, or just mix the real world with something mythological. Because I simply could not pass by such films, I am ready to endure a lot, in order to see how the world is shown in the film.
But, unfortunately, in this film I was disappointed by almost everything, and some things even cause laughter or misunderstanding on my part.
The first question that comes up during the movie:
Why do all these Greek gods and creatures live only in the United States? There won’t be a single god or creature that lives outside of America, I’m curious to know why the gods live here. And the main thing is that they are all located in the same country, because the writer wanted so. Heroes do not have to overcome any special difficulties to get to a particular creature or god. They just need to start a car and go to the right place. This makes the film more empty.
The second question is very mediocre character disclosure.
For example,
The heroine of Alexandra Daddario, Percy's girlfriend - claimed as a god, but never in the film makes it clear that she has any abilities inherent in a demigod.
Percy is also quite superficial, but the main problem is that his transformation is not shown. Transformation from an ordinary student and a guy into a powerful demigod who can heal his wounds with water.
You watch an ordinary guy, and now he kills monsters with a sword, and then he treats wounds with water and uses it for his own purposes. Between all the stages of the evolution of the protagonist there is nothing, they occur very sharply.
I don’t know what the fights in the movie are about. After I saw them, I remembered one thing. '300 Spartans' with the same slow-motion side shot, with a bunch of opponents running straight at the hero. In the same film, fights look simply ridiculous, that is, if you make a cheaper version of the fights of '300 Spartans', and also remove the blood from there, you will get this film.
Okay, I see why you can't show blood. This is a family movie to watch with children.
But I don't understand how a family movie that kids are going to watch has jokes that Brandon T. Jackson's character is constantly making. Common humor and sometimes direct flirtation. I don’t think the audience for whom such films are made will understand such humor.
Lots of logical flaws. For example,
Why make a camp in some Greek style, with fragile walls of fabric and other attributes inherent in that time? You live in the 21st century, make a normal camp, why all the scenery?
If in the situation with Satire it is clear how he hides his legs with crutches. In the case of the teacher of the protagonist, who hides the whole body of a horse under a wheelchair, things are much more difficult. How does he hide the whole body of a horse in a wheelchair? Is it foldable? Here even excuses about magic will not help, about her and there was no question.
If the heroes had not picked up the coins in the fountain, they would not have been able to move on the plot, because they would have nothing to pay the guard of the underworld. It turns out that the behavior of the main characters and situations in the film adjust to each other, it looks very unnatural.
For what you can praise the film, so it's a pretty good soundtrack, not everyone will like, but it's definitely not bad. Just praiseworthy study of mythical creatures and gods, they look quite good, of course, until they begin to fight the main characters, as I said, fights in the film look just terrible.

I have seen this movie several times. The desire to review it again and again appears every couple of years. The picture is a fairy tale with a serious plot. The topic of participation of unusual teenagers in large-scale problems is developed here. It is amazing how well worked out the docking of the world of ordinary people and demigods: almost no fault. I did not see any serious religious manifestations. From the director's point of view, the film was shot very much 'very'. The plot boasts a variety of twists and geographically interesting places.
The idea itself is intertwined with mythology. There are many problems associated with the gods. It is amazing how the authors of the book managed to combine the modern world with the old, long forgotten and powerful. I will note many different problems that arise in the course of the story. Of course, bright special effects make the picture incredibly rich. I can assure you that watching heroes will give you a lot of pleasure.
I recommend the film to everyone who loves the fantasy genre. He really deserves your attention. Sadly, there is no plan to continue, but there is a book that continues the line. Ironically, the first film is better than the second.
The film was not watched for the first time and every time I am interested to see how I will evaluate this film from different positions and points of view, for three years since the movie “Sea of Monsters” was released, and then “Lightning Thief” I did not dare to move. I will not violate my canonical schemes of writing a review and will continue to rivet the same type of husk. It was 2010. The franchise of the decade flew with an arrow to the finish line. I can’t stop saying that Harry Potter is for me the main entertainment of the age of first awareness, and we’ll go through it too, but everything will take time. The bosses thought about preparing a new idol of generations, and for this it was necessary to pick up some unambiguous hero about whom no one knew yet and give him a screen life, or vice versa - to dig up among the rubbish of children's and youthful fiction the hero not dressed in a mask Daniel Radcliffe, or any other actor playing at one time youngsters with great ambitions who do not suspect them. It is strange that Tanya Grotter, whose creative father is Dmitry Yemets, has not yet been transferred to the screen in our country, apparently the potential of this book franchise was underestimated. So, dug and found the Riordan work about “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” – the adventures of small demigods in the entourage of Greek mythology. This interesting idea was seized upon, and the director was Chris Columbus, who started Harry Potter. The films of which, lately, few people please, but there are daredevils. In this work, we will try to figure out what the first pancake about Percy Jackson turned out to be, and what to expect from him at all?
Let’s take a moment to an alternate universe and imagine that Harry Potter can’t read, Ron Weasley has grown hooves, and Hogwarts teaches martial arts like slashing each other with a sword and shooting with a bow. This is something you can get after watching the first four or five episodes of the film. Let me remind you that the film is based on the book by Rick Riordan, which at one time was a bestseller and, like any self-respecting bestseller, was adapted for the big screen by Rick Titley, a screenwriter of such series as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Before Percy Jackson, he was somehow involved with the screenwriters of the film Scooby Doo, but not the essence. The bottom line is that there will always be a difference between a book and a movie, because everyone has their own vision of the result.
Percy Jackson is a teenager with attention deficits and dyslexia, but one day he learns the truth that he is a demigod and his whole world is broken. At some points, he just doesn't seem childish, especially in the episode when he answers Mr. Bruner's question that there is a result of the union of God and Man. The word “demigods” he pronounces with questioning intonation and therefore creates the effect of stupidity, I hope that it was intended. Percy, Grover and Annabeth (who is Athena’s daughter) embark on a grand journey to bring “the world’s most powerful stun gun” back to Olympus.
Columbus treated the original without much care, and I tend to think that it was right, because many of the book's blunders, especially conspicuous, have been removed or masked. The age of the characters has been increased from 12 to 17 years old and is slightly lost in coolness compared to the original. The ordeal across America has gained purpose, and the main villains have been shuffled a bit, which, in my opinion, has gone to the best of the stories. It was not, however, without established stamps and pianos in the bushes, but in general it does not spoil the impression of viewing.
The cast seems solid only at first. Attract the names of Pierce Brosnan, Uma Thurman and Sean Bean, but all your illusions in an instant collapse when you find that their characters are here for a few minutes and they are exclusively episodic, and the main trinity picked up actors then not yet tarnished with glory. Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario and Brendan T. Jackson play the top three. I’m sure it wasn’t these roles that made them famous, and they themselves are unlikely to remember playing these characters. Although the latter is much more remarkable here, for it is responsible for a great deal of humor; all the best gags flow from his mouth. The Russian speech is full of words like “cracked”, “loser” and “ass”. Obviously, distributors believe that modern teenagers can not be spoiled, my opinion is that it is not so much the fault of distributors as the screenwriters themselves, the benefit of our vocabulary of pretentious and expressive expressions will be somewhat richer, because this is still a literary version of how it could be interpreted.
In general, it turned out to be a good product, which grew out of Hollywood’s exploitation of Greek myths. The film did not become a new "GP" because if you analyze the film even deeper and walk through inconsistencies in terms of exposing myths, you can be disappointed not only in this film, but in many other films using the same idea. And the atmosphere of the film does not reach. A great one-time film that will give a lot of adventure, love, and heroic story about the first feat of the Persian. I quote: For serious fantasy, the film is too frivolous, and for comedy it is not funny enough. The main thing is that children do not learn the myths of Percy Jackson. Have a great time!
Today in our kitchen dilogy "Percy Jackson".
The film adaptation of Rick Riordan’s books about the adventures of the half-blooded son Poseidon in the modern world, closely intertwined with the world of ancient Greek gods. In total, Riordan wrote 6 fiction books under the general title “Percy Jackson and the Olympians”, which he wrote for his sick son, who is fond of ancient Greek mythology.
Films were released 2: Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief (2010) and Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters (2013). The first part was a great success (with a relatively small budget), because the work was Chris Columbus – the director of the first two, the most fabulous, parts of Harry Potter, and he also created both parts of Home Alone with Culkin. So Columbus knows a lot about home movies. The second film, authored by Thor Freudenthal (a little-known director who began with short films), unfortunately failed at the box office, although it had great interest outside the United States. The third book, Percy Jackson and the Curse of Titan, was frozen. Perhaps the failure is due to an inexperienced director or an unsuccessful timing in the era of the climax of Potterian. It's unknown. But, still, rumors about the “Curse of Titan” continue to roam, which mentions 2018. Let's hope.
The audience of Percy, of course, can not be compared with Harry Potter, but, nevertheless, the dilogy came out very good and high-quality, especially the first part. An interesting and vivid plot (albeit banal in places) in combination with the cast really give pleasure. Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson) did his job on a solid 4. Ball for little underplayers. But is it possible to scold the young guy for the first serious leading role, and, in episodic and second roles earlier (Patriot, Train to Yuma, Fatal Number 23), he was very good. And “The Lightning Thief” became for Lerman a ticket to the big movie.
Supporting roles in the dilogy were occupied by such talents as Pierce Brosnan, Sean Bean, Steve Coogan and the charming Uma Thurman - the case when good actors came to the place. I will note the good performance of Brandon T. Jackson, who successfully inserted wits and jokes. Only Alexandra Daddario failed. A mediocre actress, remembered only by a zombie unusual look and boobs in future roles.
Also, I note that the titles of the films “Lightning Thief” and “Sea of Monsters”
They only point to one of the plots. The accompanying turns and adventures are much more, and they are all different and different. This adds to the dilogy of novelty and freshness.
As a result, it turned out a kind, high-quality, light film fairy tale with successful splashes of humor and special effects. The scenes and the picture in general are also pleasing to the eye. If you like the fabulous and magical genre, both parts will appeal to you.
But to compare “Percy Jackson” and “Harry Potter” categorically impossible, otherwise spoil the whole impression. They are different works and different worlds. Good to see you! #kino_logic
The savage, fatal, pitch-shifting ... soundtrack is what you actually see on screen. From the book in the film only the names and names of the characters. Forget the rest of it. If you, like me, were delighted with this work and expected to see the similarity of the film with the book at least as in Harry Potter, then you can safely go and read the book again than watch this.
And so, according to the plot;
Percy Jackson is not a 12-year-old boy, but a 16-year-old. About the fact that his mother often cooks him blue food simply did not care (although with such a plot it is surprising that they did not change their names), and the fact that Groveoa did not have crutches and he always wore a hat especially. The conversation, which at the beginning of the book is not at all, even a hint of it. And that Poseidon loves his son, too. But the directors must know. And so, Percy and her mother do not go on vacation, they immediately go to camp, and in the camp, gladiator training is just like that. Although the book they walked in ordinary T-shirts and armor were only for training. Everyone knew at once that Percy was Poseidon’s son, although this was only recognized at the game. . But the hardest thing I've ever done to turn off this stream of idiocy is Annabeth. How? That's how you screw up a character like that? Was there not enough money for actors? Of a good girl who played, by the way, with Percy on the same team, made a bitch. Although this bitch was supposed to be Clarissa, who is not in the film at all, although she has a small but important role in the book. Why the hell did Hades get into the camp at all? In general, wild tin.
For the plot 0 out of 10.
Actually, by characters. It's even worse. True, Grover came out really not bad. And the habits kind of matched the original. I was not bothered by the color of his skin. I liked Luca more than that. He played well and that’s how I imagined him.
Now for the bad. Actually, everyone else is here. Chiron, Poseidon, Zeus, Percy, Percy's mother, Percy's stepfather, Hades and Annabeth. Especially Annabeth. Nothing from the characters in the book. Nothing at all. Annabeth is a bitch, Percy is some kind of down in general, Poseidon is suddenly a loving father, and Zeus is a complete idiot who did not know about Poseidon’s son at all. Hades is just an idiot who came to camp. Percy's mother is not a loving woman, I did not see a sea of warmth in her, nor the abominations in her stepfather. And Chiron suddenly knows who Percy is and asks him what he didn't know. Great, man.
1 in 10 because of Grover.
Special effects;
Well, not bad. The best of this movie. That’s all that’s in this movie.
4 out of 10, because it would be better, but at least so.
As a result, 2 out of 10. And that's due to special effects. If you read a book, do not spoil your impression of it. There was not just spat on the plot and on the audience as a whole, there they just wrapped the feces in a wrapper with shouts ' and so it will come down' I don't recommend this thrash to anyone. You better read a book.
Percy Jackson and the kidnapper of the glowing stick
I don’t know how the producers came up with this. The use of myths of Ancient Greece has become so ubiquitous in modern cinema that the viewer needs something to surprise - you can not release a medium craft from the category of "and so it will go." And here are the options. You can scrupulously study a certain mythological material and create a very integral, high-quality, meaningful and at the same time interesting product, which will just not dig. On the contrary, you can create something murderously provocative or deliberately contrary to all the canons of this genre. But you have to do something great without it! Unfortunately, Percy Jackson is a disgusting in its vulgarity semi-finished product, at the same time very low quality and at the same time containing almost no creative finds.
First of all, the whole plot of the film. Lightning disappears from the storm clouds, which is why Zeus calls Poseidon and accuses his earthly son, who is completely unaware of his real origin, of stealing these lightning bolts. Then he gives Poseidon a certain period of time so that he, Zeus, will return these lightning bolts, otherwise the war of the gods will begin. STATE?! Is it really that, how can one in principle positively evaluate this result of Alzheimer's screenwriters? Why is Poseidon or his pentyuch son suddenly charged? How could this loser, a diver without scuba diving, in principle, steal some lightning, pull them out of the clouds? Where were they stolen from? Why did the suspicion fall on Poseidon and not on Hades or even Hermes? How can the glowing stick of a moronic design become a decisive element in the war of the Olympic gods, if a water-taught child is quite easily dominating the battlefield with a pair of water towers? All of these issues are completely ignored. Why? Because gladiolus, there is no need to think too much here - your business is to consume, eat what they give.
The viewer will also be able to plunge into a real vinaigrette of myths of Ancient Greece, and distorted or transmitted absolutely incorrectly for the sake of entertainment. For example, bulls in general and the Minotaur in particular do not belong to Hades, but just to Poseidon, and meanwhile the main character is pursued by the Minotaur.
The idea of a demigod camp is just something. The school of heroes of Chiron turned into a wild parody of both Hogwarts and Narnia. Not even that, it's more of a parody! Some murky blubbers and manish women depict “heroes”, tensely mutating each other with plastic swords on aluminum shields. The strength of the “trainees” is determined by stupid tasks, such as capturing the flag of the enemy team. Choreography of fights at the level of the performance of the theater circle of elementary school. The whole thing is located in the woods and looks like a low-budget scout camp, they just don't sing "kumbaya" around the campfire. The ultimate facepalm.
The cast, as usual in such films, is little known, gray and dull. What a surprise, however, it was when Sean Bean, Pierce Brosnan and Uma Thurman appeared in this absolutely disastrous project! Oh my God, I felt sorry for Pierce Brosnan - anyone who watches until the 24th minute will know what this is about. The only bright moment of this tape was Medusa. Yes, in the performance of Uma Thurman it turned out quite interesting. So in a few minutes of screen time, real acting talent manifests itself, and a small role of Medusa Uma literally pulled out due to her signature stunning facial expressions.
Only after watching the film in full, I noticed that the director is Chris Columbus, who shot the first parts of Potteriana. If we talk about the trend, then this is the most severe degradation for the director - to create such an unfinished homunculus after a chic work on Potter.
3 out of 10
For the first time, I didn’t remember the movie. Then it was just going to the cinemas, and about a week after watching I forgot that there was such a movie.
A few years later, I read books and fell in love. You can talk for a long time about what books are wonderful, how they delightfully describe Greek myths, how interesting, non-standard, and most importantly, the main character is reliable, how cool the other characters are; that these books are not worse, but in some places and better than the cycle about the above-mentioned spectacle with a scar, but...
This is not the case in the film.
The film, if you think about it as a film adaptation, looks something like this: the wrong people who look wrong and think wrong, say the wrong thing, go the wrong way, and everything ends up with something else. Seriously.
And if you evaluate the film independently, then, of course, it is a pale tracing to the original, and even what contrasted with “Harry Potter” in the book, in the film, on the contrary, made more similar, which did not add dignity.
But you can see it once. All that’s left of the book is magical, Medusa’s visualizations are delightful, and Logan, though older than the book Percy, is very similar (unlike the other characters). The plot of the book is stretched to the point of impossibility, turned and turned, but if you have not read, you will not notice it.
One thing is important: if the film passed by you, don’t believe it – read the books. And, perhaps, you will discover a wonderful world where the characters are not “chosen” wizards living separately from the rest of the world, but the real heroes who unite the mythical world and the ordinary world.
If the book has its own style and some originality, then the film is completely devoid of individuality. Beautiful, but empty fairy tale, filmed by Chris Columbus, which is why the comparison of Percy Jackson with Harry Potter comes to mind.
The plot is built around the mythology of ancient Greece and demigod children. The main character, Percy Jackson, is just one of these, but, according to the tradition of the genre, until a certain point he has no idea about it. Then he suddenly falls various misfortunes that threaten him with death, and then the “initiated” willy-nilly have to tell the stunned teenager who he is and what is happening at all. And then there was the half-blood camp, the monsters, the mysterious Lightning Thief, and so on and so forth. Everything happens too quickly, in some places slurred and crumpled, and the viewer has no choice but to wonder with Percy: "What is going on?" But the "initiates" answer questions so reluctantly that it is easier to guess. Until I read the book, I didn’t understand some scenes. This is a huge disadvantage of the film: interesting, but undisclosed, ragged.
As for the characters, I only liked Percy Jackson, played by Logan Lerman. He managed to transfer a piece of Percy’s book to the screen, so I can’t imagine any other character besides him. But Annabeth and Grover bear little resemblance to their book originals. Of the secondary fascinated by Zeus, Poseidon, Medusa Gorgon, Persiphon and Luke.
The idea is wonderful, but the film came out slick and stamped to the top. We’ve seen it hundreds of times in hundreds of other American films. Also, there is no hint of a sequel when the film comes to an end. It seems that no one was going to continue filming. But the second film came out, and he put his predecessor in an even more awkward position, too many inconsistencies between the first and second parts.
The film honestly tries to be good, if you do not find fault, then you can watch with pleasure. Unfortunately, the cult film did not come out of him, but this does not mean that he is unworthy of attention. Ancient Greek mythology is a very interesting topic, and even an average film will not discourage the desire to get acquainted with it.

Why has it recently become fashionable to shoot a huge number of films for teenagers? Perhaps this is due to the fact that the main audience of cinemas is them. And if everything started quite rosy with the adaptations of Harry Potter and The Chronicle of Narnia, then now it is frozen at the level of books like Percy Jackson.
And this is really scary, because now every known teenage series of books necessarily acquires a screen adaptation. Regardless of its artistic value and suitability for the actual transfer to the screen.
Percy Jackson is allegedly based on long-suffering Greek myths, but exactly what is supposed to be. And the problem is not that the action is transferred to our days, there is a good example of such a transfer, and this is of course the American Gods by Neil Gaiman. The problem is the intentional distortion of characters and especially their motivations. Many gods look too caricatured and derogatory, especially in the example of Hades and Persephones.
But the main characters themselves do not lag behind in idiocy from the divine relatives. The main character, the son of Poseidon himself, is a muzzled, uncharacteristic teenager whose exploits are accomplished thanks to the desire of the screenwriters. The daughter of Athena is annoying with her short-sightedness and hysteria. Only satire looks relatively acceptable, although his humor is too monotonous.
As a result, we get an extremely primitive and monotonous film without a hint of common sense.

To be honest, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief is a rather banal film with a predictable plot. But! There's one big BUT! There is some charm here, which causes genuine interest in this picture.
Yes, the plot is far from original: a teenage boy learns that he is a demigod and has superpowers. As always, for no reason, he is the strongest of all the other demigods and must now save the world. What do you say? Neither the writer nor the directors of the film could come up with anything new. But on the other hand, is it necessary? After watching such a banal film with such a banal plot, do we still not guess what will happen next? Perhaps, due to my childish naivety, I did not try to predict the further development of events, but I did not need it.
Of course, there were moments I didn’t like at all. For example, Percy’s bluntness sometimes just pissed off. How much one has to be uneducated not to know the names of the famous Greek demigods, or that if a hydra cuts off its head, two will grow. It's kind of weird. It was also striking that all the gods are the size of a house and wear ancient Greek clothes, but Hades looks like a rocker or a retired biker.
I liked the humor. Honestly, over some jokes and incidents not just grinned, but laughed from the heart.
Computer graphics are also high. Harry Potter, in my opinion, is not inferior. The picture is amazing when you watch just on TV, but I think if you watch in 3D, the effect will be even cooler (especially the scenes when Percy controls the water).
I liked the actors, too. Very nice guys, they played well.
The music leaves much to be desired. There were some cool songs, but none of them I remember.
Well, in general, this is a great fairy tale film to pass the time. Imagination amazes, the eye pleases, the mood lifts, and what else does a fastidious viewer need?
So,
Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief is an absolutely banal and quite ordinary film of this genre. The main plot takes place in our time, where the main character is Percy himself, the son of Poseidon, although he does not immediately learn about this. About the fact that Percy is Poseidon's son, he learns closer to the middle of the film when he gets into a camp for demigod children. Before that, he considers himself an ordinary teenager, just like everyone else, only he has the ability to stay underwater for more than 10 minutes. He thinks he has a gift from nature. This is true, but only in part.
Actually, the genre of the film to some extent we have adventures, and the adventures in the film of the main character begin in the museum, when she turns from teachers into some incomprehensible flying shit and will force him to return the lightning of Zeus. Percy doesn't know what she's talking about, but Grover, his friend, understands everything perfectly, and starts running away with Percy. They meet the Minotaur on the way. Later, the action of the film begins to take place in some camp, where everyone is fighting, undergoing some tests, but Percy has prepared a place where he will live, and is told that this place was prepared for him by his father. In fact, Percy immediately realizes that he is the son of Poseidon, because the interior, the house by the water immediately contributes to this. There, we have a third main character – a girl named Annabeth – the daughter of Athena, very good in combat.
The most interesting thing about the movie is when Percy and his friends need to find 3 pearls. And that's done really well. The first is located in the lair of Medusa Gorgon, whose role was perfectly performed by Uma Thurman. Among the many stone personalities, Percy and his team must cut off Uma's head, thereby taking the first of the three pearls. To get the second, they go to the Nashvel Museum, where the pearl itself is located on the head of a huge monument dedicated to Annabeth’s mother Athena. And to prevent them from doing this will be Hydra, cutting off which head, she grows two. And the third pearl must be obtained at the entertainment center in Las Vegas. And this is done really well. Percy and his friends are invited to eat the so-called Lotus, which attracts them to this place. Later, Percy thinks about it and realizes that he was here for 5 days, and thought that 5 hours.
After all this, it turns out that the lightning was always in the shield that Percy was given in the camp. Later, the lightning is stolen, but after a while Percy returns the lightning and returns it to Zeus. Happy End. In general, a standard film for this genre.
The plot - 7 - quite standard, without innovations
Directing - 8 - pretty high-quality shooting, especially since the middle of the film
Actors – 8 – Uma Thurman, Pierce Brosman and a couple of interesting copies
Sound and Music - 6 - not quite that.
Visually - 8 - bright, colorful, again, starting from the middle of the film
Overall, 7 is a standard film of this genre.
I love books about Percy Jackson, so I was really excited when I found out that there is also a film adaptation! However, my joy did not last long. The film seemed terrible to me, without much meaning. The book is full of characters and... Okay, we're not talking about a book. The film seemed dry to me, it does not touch the soul, does not fall into your heart. For me, that’s one of the most important qualities in the film. The acting is just disgusting... Alexandra plays the daughter of the goddess of wisdom, and she has an empty look and a face, as if she is constantly thinking, “Fuck.” What do I do? I don't know. Everything is very implausible.
If you like mythology, you might like it. For fans of the book, I don’t recommend watching the movie, you’ll be disappointed. And one more thing: the film, in my opinion, is not designed for an adult audience.

Something new in the fantasy genre. A kind of continuation of ancient Greek myths, the action of which takes place today. Long known gods, it turns out, do not cease to seduce earthly women and leave “heavy”. The fruits of their fleeting connections are called “demigods,” but their fathers do not want to communicate with them. For them, a special camp has been created where unwanted fruits can communicate with each other and develop their superpowers. Only one of them in his 18 years still does not know who he is! But he will have to save the world, because the real war of the gods is coming!
By the way, the film titled “War of the Gods: Immortals”, as well as the well-known “Battle of the Titans” and its sequel “The Wrath of the Titans”, which film the ancient Greek myths more seriously, I watched, I also liked them very much. And if you think that the myths were distorted in Battle of the Titans, you are wrong, in that film everything is done as it should be. In the same film, the authors scoffed at and mocked the heroes of myths: here you and Persephone , which is happy to see any simple mortal in her bed; and Medusa Gorgon, which in black glasses looks like Maria Kiselyova from the famous TV game "Weak Link"; and just a bunch of sparkling jokes that will make you laugh to the bottom. Great special effects please the eye - strange that this film was not shot in 3D.
In 3D filmed the sequel to this film: Percy Jackson and the sea of monsters. I first learned about the second film when I went to the cinema for Wolverine Immortal - there was a trailer for the second Percy Jackson. When I heard it was a sequel, I decided to watch the first movie. The next day I went to the cinema for the second part. And she disappointed me a lot - she loses to the first film in all respects. There even special effects were weaker, plus instead of killer humor stupid jokes, and the plot is not so active, and the film itself is more like a comic book than a fantasy.
Some people compare this movie to Harry Potter. People, you mean, there's no resemblance. Unless both films are fantasy films. "Harry Potter" - adaptation of the modern book, "Percy Jackson" - continuation of ancient myths. There are no evil spirits, only mythical creatures. Watch and enjoy - here you have beautiful views, and skillful tricks in active scenes, and incredible adventures of heroes, and, of course, love. What else is needed for a great film in the genre of comedy fantasy?

The film surprisingly intertwines ancient mythology and reality. The picture at first glance is very similar to the Harry Potter saga, but it has its own excellent plot, as well as history, which is very pleasing. In general, we can say that it is made in the spirit of an exciting adventure. Still, because the director of the picture, Chris Columbus, is famous for his work in the first two parts of Harry Potter, it was he who created the foundation of the world, which was later completed by other directors, and he did it wonderfully.
A boy named Percy does not yet know about his destiny, or even about his origin. The world around him begins to change, he learns that he is the son of the god Poseidon, that is, he is a demigod. The guy gets into the camp of people like him, unusual people who have various divine gifts. There he meets a beautiful girl, the daughter of Athena, and also learns that his best friend is a satire. Percy is accused of allegedly stealing lightning from the supreme ruler Zeus, but this is not true. Now the guy must convince the gods that he did not steal lightning to prevent the beginning of a great battle between the gods. So he and his two friends go to the underworld to see Hades himself to prove his innocence and free his mother, who has been imprisoned by the god of Darkness. They will visit many places, fight with many mythical creatures, such as Medusa Gorgon, Harpy, Hydra, Minotaur. Then they will visit Hades and return to Zeus his lightning bolts, which they did not steal. In conclusion, they will visit Olympus, where they will meet with the Olympians themselves.
Who is the real lightning thief and will Percy defeat him? This you will learn by watching the picture, which, I assure you, will be exciting, interesting, and will not make you miss.
Chris Columbus is one of my favorite directors. I love the first two parts of Harry Potter.
I would have missed this film, because I don’t like American cinema, if I didn’t know that it was directed by this director. After watching Percy Jackson, I realized that Columbus only makes good movies.
The actors were selected very successfully, starting with Percy Jackson and ending with Chiron.
Logan Lerman is a very talented young actor, and he succeeded in this role. He seems to be born to play Percy Jackson.
Brandon T. Jackson did not jump either. Grover Underwater seems to have left the pages of a book. I laughed at his jokes for a whole movie.
Alexander Daddario was disappointed. For one thing, she doesn't quite fit her book character (Annabeth has blonde hair in the book), though that's not the point. She's got one emotion for the whole movie! Although I don't know if she's a bad actress or not, as I haven't seen any other movies with her. Maybe not her role.
Uma Thurman is the most beautiful woman. The role of the crazy but attractive Medusa Gorgon she succeeded.
Good movie. You can watch it 1-2 times, but no more.

Incredible movie. It can be immediately decomposed into scenes, quotes and lines that will become cultic. The film, intended for a wide audience, in the end did not find it, unfortunately. For children, the film was slightly incomprehensible, for teenagers – predictable, and for adults – quite banal. But if you forget everything that was done before, forget Harry Potter and other similar epics, look at the film with a new look, it turns out that it is wonderful, even unexpected. Thanks to the immense talent Chris Columbus from a very mediocre book Rick Riordan was an easy and incredible Hollywood film. On the other hand, how can you not compare it with the movie “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”, because they are both the brainchild of the same director. Even the first shot is a bit like the beginning of this movie. And the story of the unfortunate hero who makes friends thanks to magical power is also quite similar.
First of all, I want to mention incredible supporting actors. If Logan Lerman and Alexandra Daddario played very tightly, if not to say "tolerable", then the masters of Hollywood Sean Bean, Steve Coogan and Pierce Brosnan as always showed the upper class. Brandon T. Jackson for his not always appropriate, but worthwhile jokes. Perfectly got used to the role of Medusa amazing Uma Thurman. It was they, secondary heroes, who settled this film as it is.
Comic youth scenes echo dramatic episodes played by famous actors. Interesting battle scenes and the mixing of ancient myths with modern gadgets - that's what this film is rich, that's what was missing in "Harry Potter". Each task performed by the heroes is interesting in its own way. The battle with Medusa is a good acting game, the task in the Parthenon is a return to Greek culture, and there is no price for the scene in the Lotus club. It was necessary to combine the Greek legend of the lotus with the idea of teenagers about the effects of drugs. And the song "Lady Gaga" in this scene came in handy. A stunning special effects journey to the afterlife and a lightning-fast battle on the roof of a skyscraper added to the film epic. As a result, this film has everything you need for a Hollywood blockbuster, only with the audience the creators lost. And the post-credits scene was just wonderful.
I thought that worse than the "Dragon Dungeons" can not be, but no.
The film “struck” from the very first scene, when Poseidon in his full giant height comes out of the water and frightens the fisherman. You could turn it off immediately, but I decided to see what happens next, maybe logic will wake up there. Unfortunately, it only got worse.
The script is terrible. Everything is absurd. I don't know about the book, but making Olympus and the gods in America is the height of idiocy. I didn't see any irony, only poor afftor education. Not a single Greek was seen among the gods, but there was an African-American who, along with the rest, flaunted in stylized ancient Greek clothes.
About actors and heroes:
All the characters are patterned to hell.
Lerman is a pretty boy, but not an actor. His hero turned out to be bland, it was absolutely no matter what would happen to him. The sad story of Perseus and his mother is sucked out of a finger. And his formation as a hero passed at an accelerated pace ... waved a couple of times with a sword and now a warrior and without strain kills all sorts of monsters.
Brandon T. Jackson will be a better actor. But... Many American mediocre comedies have a jester character and he is either an African-American or an ass-like animal from Shrek. And with the faun, the screenwriters got too much, combining both ... I'm tired.
The daughter of Athena, like the heroic friend of the main character, did not surprise her. Relations with Perseus are standard - at first she does not like him and she tries to kill him, then she already asks for his company to go to save the world.
Seeing the star cast hoped for at least a decent acting. It was not, even the invited stars, though Thurman at least a little, but played.
Briefly on the gods: Poseidon is a rag, Zeus is a dummy, Hades is an aging rock star of cheap poshbi, Persephone is a worried lady.
Summing up, we can say that the film failed on the most important indicator - the plot. The special effects are not bad, the music is average. The very idea of the relationship of the gods and their children is interesting, but not revealed. The film could be shown to children under 10 years old, but I do not recommend it because of jokes of a sexual nature.

Recently, the topic of ancient mythology has become very relevant. Over the past couple of years, a dozen successful and not so successful films have been created, but all of them were created according to one single formula: an ancient hero plus a bed scene with a girlfriend multiplied by meat and blood. All! That's all the work of the authors. "Percy Jackson" in this respect is half the body above all, because it is not enough to take the ancient myth, you also need to integrate its atmosphere into the modern world. It’s really hard, but the filmmakers did a great job.
To be honest, the plot is as banal as it is simple. Is that bad? No, that's great! What happens on the screen is simple, clear and logical. Don't you? Look for yourself! The film has a lot of good humor, funny adventures and puzzles - it will not let you get bored.
The cast was very pleased: there are beautiful, aspiring actors, as well as famous, well-known masters. I especially liked Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena, performed by Alexandra Daddario. Logan Lerman worked well on the role of the “difficult” teenager – Percy Jackson, who is in search of his way.
This is a great movie that you can watch on a weekend with your family. Everyone can learn a couple of important lessons. Don’t take the time to watch this “good” movie.
Many acquaintances advised me to watch this film, and as a fan of fantasy, except for Harry Potter, I did not dare for a long time. And apparently not in vain.
The plot is boring and easy to predict, especially for those who are at least somehow familiar with the myths of ancient Greece.
The behavior of the characters is beyond reality: Percy had just met Annabeth, and within a minute they were best friends. Percy said he had never fought, but seconds later, with the help of water and sword, he had already put the entire red team on the shoulder blades, with an overconfident grin.
The location of the objects in the film is extremely embarrassing. Since childhood, I was convinced that Olympus is in Greece, but not on the last ' invisible' floor of the Empire State Building! The location of the Persephone pearls is very strange, because we can only guess how and when she placed them there.
Stupidly selected images of gods and monsters, non-compliance with mythology, hell under Hollywood (although perhaps this is only a hidden comparison), goat protector on crutches, vulgar hints and jokes.
It clearly doesn't make the film any better, so my score is 5.
Listen, the spectator, hungry for entertainment with the taste of a long time flew to other cities of childhood. Today on the screen is a miracle tale about the son of Neptune and an earthly woman who suffers from dyslexia, is lazy to study and is friends with a half-goat. While the young Percy fatherly spies are trying to guide on the path of true heroism and a bright future, Zeus from under the nose of an unknown cunning man leads his fearful and severe punishing lightning. Who will pay for this, who will answer? Of course, Perseus, because he needs the most! Yes, viewer, you came to watch fantasy for middle school students, hoping for a relaxing and graphically pleasing movie. Alas, but he walked through the wrong door, because this film should be watched only when you really want to scold the scriptwriters-oligophren, directors with Aueschi disease, and actors who do not leave the image of Buratino in the embryonic stage (holene, that is). In all other cases, watching the product is strictly contraindicated!
Contradicted to those who are delighted with the unassuming literary series of the writer of middle hand Rick Riordan, because the books could appeal to you, and the film, to put it mildly, is based on the imagination of the director on this topic. The author of the series of works is an American schoolteacher, and here it is necessary to take into account the sacred faith of the citizens of the free states in their exclusive right to distort not only the real history of the world, but also the legends, myths, legends of other peoples of the world, since the bulwark of democracy is too young to have its own. It is not surprising that the characters in this story of a distant mind, with a docked ingenuity, and CNS defeat syndrome, so hopes for logic and physics can not be nourished. Although what can you count on if these books are positioned as the answer to America by J.K. Rowling, and their hero, someone Percy Jackson is an American Harry Potter? Don’t believe me, Percy Jackson can’t compete even with the Russian parody in the person of Tanya Grotter, where he can compete with the most popular teenage book and film franchise!
Contradicted to those who loved very much, and kept a love for the classical myths of Ancient Greece, their rich world, muscular heroes, vicious but all-powerful Olympians, beautiful and insidious women, the very spirit of these indescribably charming legends. In this story, selfish and cruel Olympians, pulled from their authentic environment, are deprived of all the positive that attracted the reader in the source, the characters are no longer bold, intelligent or decisive, and the ladies are ugly, and nothing remains of the spirit of epic battles. The olympus of democracy swept to New York and nailed to the Empire State Building, where the gods bought clothes at Wal-Mart, and to escape from worldly problems, disowned their children, handing them over to the centaur Chiron, who rose from the dead. He, by the way, very successfully leads the concentration camp of hybrid offspring, which is put here uncomfortable uniforms of Roman gladiators, worn over jeans and checkered shirts. The great heroes of centuries-old tales themselves shredded, modernized, descended to the level of small people - today their strength is in threats and violence.
Contradicted to those who respect the work of Chris Columbus, in his best years, gave the world a fascinating and naive baby, forgotten at home by bad parents, or the first parts of the Potterian, bewitching viewers of all ages with the taste of magic and the world of magic. Here everything is different: the visual series of the picture is not shocking - the moments drawn with the help of computer graphics are sewn with white threads, the effects are very primitive, and the echo of the "Wow effect" can be experienced only by watching scenes of water battles. The plot is weak, but at the same time godlessly protracted, and most of the film the viewer misses or is surprised by another resurrected monster, which the sharp sword of Hercules or Perseus in the distant summers BC did not finish the neck vertebrae. With all the ideological potential and a solid budget, the film did not become a fresh interesting interpretation of a rich theme for the scale, could not compete with the obvious opponent of the magical dimension, does not leave a pleasant aftertaste, disappoints with every aspect of it from the acting to the soundtrack, but most of all, that dismissively superficial and humanly vile image of ancient gods, empty and ugly, like the film itself.
As a result, this tape is not suitable for children's viewing, as it contains hints of the intimate relationship of an adult woman and a teenager, scenes of domestic violence and presents the modern hero as an infantile fool. This film teaches nothing, there is no fabulous morality about good and evil, about the nature of power, about the dangers of lying and stealing - they are presented as a given, as everyday life, they are allowed and justified, but what example does this set for the young viewer? And adults will be bored to watch a leaky awkward plot sagging between single action moments. And the credits bring with them a wave of relief that the movie is over, even though it is a pity that it happened at all.
Let’s face it, if you want to see something like an epic shoot on the myths of ancient Greece or Harry Potter – you are not at the right place. Even if you just want a beautiful fantasy fairy tale – also not immediately. Perhaps this spectacle will be interesting only for children of primary school age, because supernatural abilities and bright fantastic pictures, equipped with various monsters, for children have always been and will be a sweet topic.
We can observe a series of randomly flashing, somewhere ever-hurried scenes, fastened to put it mildly mediocre and secondary plot. A good half of the actions of the main characters are completely devoid of common sense and justification, and the characters themselves most of the picture look mind-blowing idiots (well, at best, characters ten years younger than their apparent age). “Villains” cause a terrible laugh through tears, the rapid development of events causes bewilderment and suspicion that the script someone was very, very in a hurry to write, and the narrative itself resembles some little-known poorly drawn cartoon. Absolutely all the characters of the story are absolutely cardboard and for some reason do not show us a single glimpse of acting skills, let alone replicas that break out of their mouths.
Another disadvantage of the picture for me was the episode with Medusa, where almost exactly repeats the corresponding scene from the movie “Journey of the Unicorn” (compared to which, by the way, “Percy Jackson” looks absolute squalor). And really, why write anything? We'll cut it, we'll sew it.
Oh, yeah, humor... Excuse me, was he? Really?
Apparently, the century of great fairy tales has passed, and fantasy is now filmed for those who do not know what a hydra or Cerberus is, but perfectly imagines Las Vegas and iPhones with a mirror panel.
I'm sorry. Fairy tales and time spent.
With outrage, disgust and sincere advice to potential viewers not to watch this, I bet:
2 out of 10
Many good films of this genre were made from books. Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, etc. Every film deserves respect and re-watching. And if the viewer who watched these films was not familiar with the literature that moved the director to the film adaptation, then after watching there is a strong desire to read another book.
After 'Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief' the desire, hard to call. The film causes a sense of incompleteness. Everything that happens on the screen seems like a trick. Everything seems to be good, and the cast, the second plan just pleases:
Uma Thurman - Medusa Gorgon,
Sean Bean - Zeus,
Rosario Dawson - Persephone,
Yeah, and Pierce Brosnan, but Heron still. .
But you guys feel like you're underpaid. The whole film is waiting for something, you hope for something that something will happen now, and it happens but somehow not ' until the end'. The Fury flew and sank, the Minotaur ran, threw the cow and died. The only more or less finished scene seems to be with Hydra.
There is a strange feeling about Percy himself about his awareness of what is happening. How can a person who visits museums of ancient Greek culture and has a familiar professor in this field have never heard of centaurs? Yes, he did not carefully attend the tours but, about Medusa and her abilities, we know everything, and about Hydra so apparently the picture was only seen.
In general, you can watch the film once, but without very vivid impressions and after a couple of hours is forgotten. Thank you Chris Columbus for the Harry Potters. Let’s see what happens in ' Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters' seemingly something more global, Charybda in the trailer is already fascinating.
P.S. Nice flying shoes, and Hades is funny.
I decided to watch this film at my leisure. The second part has already been released, and I haven’t seen the first one. All right. Everything in order.
Monsters, myths, gods. It's always attractive. Screening such things is simply necessary. There are few such paintings in the range. And, after all, modern technology can revive any mythological creature. They are able to create the necessary atmosphere and a worthy spectacle. Alas. This film is not on this list. Want to see a beautiful spectacle with epic battles? Watch Battle of the Titans. There, with these parameters, everything is fine. Nope. I understand that this is a family movie. I did not expect any blood or severed limbs. But where's the dynamic? Where's the atmosphere? I think I remember just a run-in with a hydra at the museum. The film's budget is pretty solid. I think I could have done a good picture. But, such a film can not boast. Graphics are average. The gods didn't like it at all. More than that, only Sean Bean looked. No Poseidon. Hades wasn't impressed either. Let me say a few words about the actors. Logan Lerman is the movie Justin Bieber. In that role, though, it looked normal. The actor is selected exclusively for teenage girls. Amused Brandon T. Jackson. He got a good character. Alexandra Daddario, as an actress, was not surprised. But her hair is really good. Pretty girl. I haven’t seen more potential yet. Jake Abel was weak. It's not his character. Wrong actor. Pierce Brosnan liked the role of centaur. However, he had little screen time. There was also Uma Thurman as Medusa. I remember Rosario Dawson. That's it. I don't remember the music at all. Operator service at the average level.
In general, a raw and disposable film that, to a greater extent, will appeal to a teenage audience. To be honest, the film could have been much better. I'll watch the second part. Home. The subject of sea monsters interested. Who knows. Maybe the continuation turned out better. Thank you very much.
The feature film directed by Chris Columbus is based on the book Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by writer Rick Riordan.
The main character of the film Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman) considered himself an ordinary person, he was raised by his mother and supported by his stepfather. But then he learns that he is the son of Poseidon. Then there is a trip to the Camp of the Children of Gods, a duel with the daughter of Athena Annabeth Chase (Alexandra Daddario), and there further on the plot ...
What I didn’t like about this movie was that it wasn’t spectacular, it was simple. For example, Percy’s surprise that he is a demigod, a very quick victory over the Minotaur, from somewhere taken sword skills, rapid passage of pearl prey, even a duel against the son of Hermes Luke Castellan (Jake Abel) was on 3 with a minus. The gods were not revealed or shown by the gods except Poseidon (Kevin McKidd).
But special effects are performed at the highest level, they save the flaws of the plot. All mythical creatures: Minotaur, Furia, Hydra, Medusa Gorgon (Uma Thurman) and others are embodied on 5 plus. There are many jokes and funny moments in the film, the culprit of which is mainly satire Grover (Brandon T. Jackson).
In general, I liked the film, the mythology of Ancient Greece is preserved and masterfully embodied. The acting was professional, although the character of Alexandra Daddario, in my opinion, is not fully disclosed.
6 out of 10
Percy Jackson is in school and differs from his peers except that excessive love of water and some attention deficit. He lives with his mother and stepfather, who is constantly rude or rude. The real father passed away a long time ago when Percy was still a baby. Soon, events that defy any reasonable explanation begin to occur. Then the teacher turns into an angry fury, then a minotaur appears and begins to pursue for no reason. It turns out that Percy is the son of Poseidon and has unprecedented opportunities for an ordinary person. And they begin to look for him because of the disappearance of lightning and it is the newly made demigod, the gods of Olympus are considered a kidnapper. Having trained in a special camp for half-bloods, Jackson enlists the support of his loyal satire friend and militant daughter Athena, goes in search of a real thief. If the lightning bolts are not returned to Zeus at the appointed time, then a war may begin, which will affect not only the world of the gods, but also the world of mortal men.
Despite the difference in subject matter, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief couldn’t avoid comparisons with the most popular teenager with magical powers, namely Harry Potter. In addition to the fact that the production of both projects was engaged in a wonderful director Chris Columbus, there are also exactly recurring moments. For example, the main characters here are also three and one of them is female. There are some similarities in terms of plot twists and turns, but if we consider “Percy Jackson” as a separate whole movie, then in general it turned out to be a good family fantasy, based on the well-known ancient Greek myths. Although, the script is quite weak and in comparison with other similar projects in the genre, does not withstand any criticism at all. But even despite this, watching the film is interesting and for some time it is calmly able to captivate any viewer.
The main advantage of this tape, undoubtedly, is a powerful picture and lightweight humor. The first is a competent visual side, which looks even more expensive than its nominal value. All Minotaurs, Centaurs, Gods, Furies and Hydras are painted very well and look quite realistic. The second aspect was very useful in terms of lightweight viewing, because sometimes template and stupid jokes helped to ignore the plot and staged flaws. However, illogicality and some standard sequence can not hide even the most powerful special effects or original gags. Everything that happens is extremely predictable and even the most inexperienced viewer will be able to quickly understand who really is the kidnapper of lightning and how this whole magical story will end.
What was a little bit surprising, the truth for the bad, is that so little screen time is devoted to showing such unusual, even to some extent cereal places as Olympus or the underworld of Hades. In total, the main characters spent a few minutes there, which personally upset me very much. It is not clear why and why so much time was devoted to a special camp for half-blooded children. In this institution, everything was very illogical and in general it resembled an elite military corps, rather than a place where teenagers with unusual abilities are taught how to live and fight enemies. Once again, the love of Americans for racial equality reminded me of itself, since in addition to black satire, which was one of the few sources of cheerful mood, I also noticed a black god among the representatives of Olympus. It would be possible to ignore such moments, but I have little faith in the fact that the ancient Greek deities had such representatives in their ranks.
The other thing that worked out was the casting. There are a huge number of star performers who tried not to hit the dirt with their faces. Good worked Logan Lerman, perfectly fit the image of the son of Poseidon. In appearance, a typical loser, if necessary, becomes a completely different person who can take control of the situation. Not bad coped with the role of funny satire Brandon T. Jackson, which is not quite like a teenager. He looks at least five years older than his screen friend. Brandon did quite well with his task, and if not for his desperate attempts to laugh at every opportunity, it would have become noticeably worse. Of the common trinity, the heroine in the performance of Alexander Daddario looked a little pale, whose mood changes were surprised not only by me, but also by the main character. The actress she is certainly talented and could give a brighter performance than what happened to her in the end.
In the background, many famous personalities were gathered. For example, Pierce Brosnan, in the image of an experienced mentor Percy Jackson, and Sean Bean, who was entrusted to play the Thunderer Zeus himself. Insanely pleased with his reincarnation of Steve Coogan, who played the lord of the dark kingdom of Hades. It turned out to be very atypical and extremely specific. It is a pity that he was not given much time. Good worked Katherine Keener and as always seductive Rosario Dawson, which got the image of Persephone. Well, I will not forget to mention the small, but very bright role of the unsurpassed Uma Thurman. She played the role of Medusa, whose look is able to instantly turn to stone, and managed to be remembered no less than her colleagues.
After all, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief may not be a perfect fantasy, but it has a full-fledged right to exist. There are wonderful special effects, painfully simple script and a bright acting ensemble, entirely consisting of famous faces. The film is not bad, but too banal and superficial, and my personal assessment is as follows:
6 out of 10
