I respect the genre of "fighter" in which sometimes a combination of aesthetics of different genres is allowed. But this is a bit of a different case. This is a movie from the nineties, when classic action films brought scripts complicated by the study of characters. But here in one tape managed to convey greetings from both "Die Hard" and "Lethal Weapon". The film is thirty years old the following year, so in the final month of the twenty-third year he made a new acquaintance with the tape to share fresh impressions of what he saw and some thoughts on the work. Make cocoa and snow blanket. Let's start our analysis.
A narrative criterion or narrative. A terrorist installs a radio-controlled bomb in a scheduled bus that will explode if the bus speed drops below 80 km / h. After the bus leaves on the highway and gathers speed, the explosive device is activated and the bus itself turns into a “speed bomb” with hostages, unable to stop. An employee of the special services, along with a random companion who was behind the wheel of a bus, is looking for a way to save lives. The main events take place on the track, but the first half an hour of the film was devoted to the exposition to reveal to the viewer the main acting characters of the tape and indicate the planned dramaturgy. There is no shame in the two aspects of the script - the relationship between Annie and Jack, as well as the confrontation between the criminal and the representative of the law. Sharing pleasantries with the villain and removing stress from the beautiful driver with a smile and charm is undoubtedly one of the advantages of the tape. And trying to reassure passengers is also worthy of being an example of a cold head in hot situations. Now I'm going to fantasize about the villain's past. He was on the side of the law, but he was scammed at the state level at the time of his well-deserved rest. And he wants to get dollars at any cost. The script is good, not perfect, in my opinion, but good.
Visual criterion or technical support of the tape. Jan De Bont previously worked as a cameraman on the first Die Hard and later on the Equilibrium. In this film he made his debut as a director. And in his place took Andrzej Barkovak. And he coped well with the embodiment on the screen of creative and visual decisions of the director. Especially the director managed dynamic scenes, with practical effects like explosions and ricocheting bullets. Marc Mancina wrote good compositions that managed to escalate the atmosphere in sharp scenes, and the final song will remind you why the rock music of the nineties fit perfectly into action movies. I'll also mention sound engineering. Each plan is voiced by an effect or a melody, and the voice is not covered by it. Which is good.
Acting work deserves a positive word. Keanu Reeves isn't a superstar yet, but he's on his way. The future savior of humanity is still practiced in smaller events. But equally fascinating. In the dubbing says the voice of Vladislav Pupkov, the timbre got into the character well. Lyudmila Logiyko gave the voice to Sandra Bullock and here the hit both in organics and in a sense of the situation, in relation to what is happening. Dennis Hopper has played many villains during his career. This role was no exception, but he coped as always great. Joe Morton and Jeff Daniels also made a good background along with all the passengers, creating an emotional context for what is happening and giving the main actors the opportunity to express themselves.
As a conclusion. Before us is a worthy example of pure action and undisturbed spectacle. There will then be many copycats, but few will achieve the same balance between dynamic episodes and conversations. I highly recommend to fans of the genre. All health, peace and good cinema.
- Are you a policeman? - Exactly! - Then I think you should know. I have my license taken away. - Yeah? And for what? - For speeding.
I got acquainted with this film in the middle of zero. Back then, action films were at the peak of popularity, and in Hollywood, every director tried to be different from others. Trying to surprise the audience, they invented new techniques. The writers did not lag behind them either. They wrote increasingly sophisticated stories. The film “Speed” can be called unique in its kind. I have never seen anything like this before or since.
Police officers Jack and Harry thwart terrorist Howard Payne's attempt to blow up a hostage elevator. Payne wants revenge on his partners and puts a radio-controlled bomb on a bus full of passengers. If it stops or the speed drops below 50 miles per hour, the bomb will detonate. Jack gets into a moving bus and tries to find a way to save people.
I really enjoyed the film in the 90s and now, almost twenty years later, it also impressed me. What is the meaning of “speed”?
Idea. The story is quite original. While others tried to come up with something new in the already existing subgenres of the action movie, be it sports. films about martial arts competitions (hello Van Damme), or an ordinary action movie, stuffed with action, stunt tricks, shootouts and other indispensable attributes of the genre, Jan de Bont together with screenwriter Graham Jost created an absolutely original project. Like I said, I've never seen anything like it again. Well, is that necessary? Everything that could be drawn from this topic has already been pulled.
Plot. Considering that the last time I saw this movie was in the 90s, it’s understandable that a lot of the plot details flew out of my mind. I forgot how long the introduction was. Oddly enough, it will sound, but "Speed" accelerates quite slowly. Only after a good third of the film begins the main action. Having gained a good pace, the plot does not slow down almost to the very end. But the finale is a little out of the picture. This is not the end I expected.
Visual. I don’t know how many scenes were shot. Sometimes I thought some of them were on a computer. But if everything is filmed live, then respect the creators of the film. Everything looks very spectacular and realistic. And explosions, and stunt tricks, and much more, for which there is an eye to catch.
The cast. Keanu Reeves, already known for several films, including On the Crest of the Wave, played a major role in this film. But for Sandra Bullock, “Speed” became a kind of high point, after which she gained universal recognition and popularity. By the time of the release of “Speed” Reeves was an experienced actor, playing the main roles in now cult films. Like Bram Stoker's Dracula. Sandra Bullock also had a lot of experience, but of all her films before “Speed” she had one only suitable role – in the film “Destroyer”. Here she really opened up as an actress. In secondary roles starred Jeff Daniels and Dennis Hopper. Those are the ones who have tried to play. The rest either didn’t impress me, or the role was so small and inconspicuous that I didn’t even remember.
After watching it, I learned that the film had a sequel in 1997. And shot by the same director, which is now a rarity, and in the 90s and even more so. I think I’ll get to know him at home too.
Probably each of us at least once saw the footage from this film and definitely remembers Keanu Reeves in a white T-shirt and body armor. Although his character from 'Speed' can easily be confused with his character - Johnny Uta from ' On the crest of the wave'. By the way, having seen him there, Jan De Bont invited the actor to his first directorial project.
An unknown terrorist commits a terrorist attack in one of the high-rise buildings of Los Angeles, as a result of which almost a dozen people are killed. However, experienced cop-sapper Jack Traven (Reeves) and his partner (Jeff Bridges) in time to rescue people from the death trap and even face the maniac. He manages to escape, and after a while, after he was already believed dead, one passenger bus explodes in the city, and another is mined. Moreover, the explosive device in it is designed in such a way that it will turn on as soon as the bus accelerates to 50 miles per hour and then, if the speed goes lower, it will detonate. Jack attempts to free people trapped in an explosive car, and a mad vehicle rushes through the city streets, attracting more and more attention.
Ian De Bont’s adrenaline-drenched film is now a classic in the genre 'fighter'. The film from the very first seconds moves at higher speeds, not slowing down, but only increasing it. This is the case when the movie goes without sagging dynamics and attracts attention for two hours. Starting without swaying with an elevator incident, it is activated after a few minutes around a bus that cannot stop. And because of this, the plot itself also moves at an ever-increasing pace, repeatedly throwing various obstacles into the lane of its movement that must be overcome by the main character and hostages.
Despite the fact that the plot is tied around the bus, the events unfold not only in it, and if they move there, they do not let you get bored. In the conditions of a tin can heated in the sun, good luck scared to death, passengers rush like hamsters in a cage, trying to survive. Tension increases with every minute, because sooner or later on the way of the bus will meet either a traffic jam, which will force him to stop and then there will be an explosion, or the road will end and then there will be an explosion. The feeling of anxiety and panic is transmitted from the characters of the film to the viewer, who also becomes hostage to the situation, because he does not understand what will happen next. And in terms of pumping suspense just among the militants, 'Speed' can be considered one of the best examples.
The tandem of Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock, who became a celebrity after 'Speed' and also released a year earlier 'Destroyer', is magnificent and simply beautiful. Young and desirable actors look very harmonious in the frame, being one of the most spectacular screen pairs of the time. Well, Dennis Hopper in the role of a maniac terrorist turns out to be so convincing that you believe in his maniacness and madness from the very first seconds. He is one of those terrorists who wants to be paid a ransom and driven by a lust for profit. But his problem lies in the fact that he was thrown out after many years of conscientious service and at some point realized that everything he did there (in the service) is nothing and, accordingly, his whole life was was wasted. In order to compensate, you have to make them pay. A large amount is desirable.
Surprisingly, ' Speed' is one of those films that, like ' Kiss Before Death' and ' Evil' is remembered with a bright flash in the form of one scene. I wrote about this in reviews of the above paintings and here with ' Speed' the same thing happened. In my head there was a memory of the scene on the roof of the subway car, when the heroes have to dodge the red lights of the semaphore, trying to blow their heads off. I remember the scene, but I didn't remember where it came from. Having recently watched 'Speed', I identified it as a scene from this particular movie. Let’s just say that another gap in memory was filled.
But in the movie, it’s a really cool action movie. Very spectacular and does not give ground, with a great cast and excellent special effects. Yes, the bus jump may seem fantastic, but it adds to the picture of the desired effect, offering an adrenaline spectacle all two hours of timing.
But look at you. I do not impose my opinion on anyone.
This movie was a huge success in 1994. One of the most recognizable action movies in every sense of the word, and critically speaking, it's a great movie with some assumptions. Thanks to young Kean Reeves and Sandra Bullock (her breakthrough role, and some viewers even today look at her through the prism of the role), we find ourselves on a bus whose speed cannot be lower than 50 miles per hour or it will explode. Anyway, we have a great story here. What you get out of this story is intrigue and about an hour of pure action and, importantly, chemistry, perfectly intersecting with the original plot. It's a real blast (no pun) from the past, thanks to which you can easily forgive him small flaws and unrealistic scenes. It is such a joy to review and be filled with warmth again.
For many, “Speed” is a revelation. Until that time, we always knew the guy with the muscles would win no matter what. But Keanu made me want him to win, he immersed me in that story.
Over the past 20 years, the basis of action films and the general pretension to them has changed. With the beginning of the comic book era, an important part of the film industry left. All sorts of action movies and fantastic action movies became more, but the films that I would actually call action movies became much less. That is, a movie where action makes sense, promotes the plot and emotional connection with the audience, and has a tangible danger. In many modern films, action lacks weight, both physically and emotionally, which is painfully noticeable. An important element is the rhythm of the narrative. As with music, everything should be in moderation. Both liking moments and tense ones. So even films that no one would call art because of their banal content can seriously impress you if they are competently worked in the team. Of course, one of these films is “Speed” by Jan de Bonta.
The movie has an impressive opening act with an elevator equipped for the explosion, which makes the first 20 minutes extremely interesting, which is immersive even before the main story begins. The beginning of the picture can exist as an independent action movie with a full climax.
Sandra Bullock is very nice. It's just so unfortunate that she signed up for Speed 2.
When a professional is good in his field, it is quite natural that he is best engaged in what comes out impeccably, and yet in some cases, the masters of their craft try to go beyond the usual business and conquer new, ambitious peaks. If we talk about cinema, then very private are cases when eminent, honored actors decide to retrain as directors and often they get very decent results. Examples include Robert De Niro, Sylvester Stallone and Ben Affleck, who may not have become true masters of the production craft, and yet critics have appreciated their efforts and enthusiasm. No less ambitious are operators who perform directorial directions and honestly dream of once personally leading the filming process and proving to everyone that they are capable not only of fulfilling someone else’s will, but also have their own unique artistic vision. Of course, there are not as many well-known operators who have become successful directors as there are actors, and yet we have at least a few notable examples of a clever career shift. At one time, Andrzej Bartkowiak, the cameraman of Richard Donner and other equally well-known directors, made a lot of noise, putting such strong action films as “Romeo must die” & #39; and “Through wounds” & #39; His share of fame also received the operator of many horror James Wan, John R. Leonetti, who received the right to work as a director on the debut spin-off about the sinister Annabelle doll. As can be seen, examples of successful transformation of operators into directors are quite enough, and among his multifaceted colleagues was not superfluous and the Dutchman Jan De Bont, in 1994 released his staged debut ' Speed', which is still considered one of the most striking action films of the 90s, and the entire genre as a whole.
The plot of the film takes us to Los Angeles, where another psychopath appeared, ready to blow up anything at any time, as long as the government paid him a round sum of money. Nobody really cares about what the terrorist set foot on a slippery slope, but it is clear that it is necessary to deal with him as soon as possible, because until he gets his, he is unlikely to stop. The first alarm bell for the local police and special services was the mining of an elevator in one of the skyscrapers. The villain is clearly not going to joke and at the same time has enough skills and knowledge to kill a whole group of people at once. However, in fact, the situation with the elevator was only an introduction to the main action, as with each subsequent time the terrorist more and more enters into a rage and prepares his opponents special surprises. By planting a bomb on a regular bus, the villain established a rule that transport should not travel slower than 50 miles per hour, otherwise an explosion will occur and everyone inside will die instantly. And since no one inside the bus has special skills and panic can lead to irreparable consequences, special agent Jack Traven (Keanu Reeves) enters the cabin on the way, for whom it is a matter of honor to stop the terrorist and save everyone. Traven’s partner in such a serious case is ordinary passenger Annie Porter (Sandra Bullock), who has to pull herself together and in all possible ways help her savior, who is well aware of the danger he and the passengers are in.
It is interesting that in the future became a cult film, collected at the box office just crazy by the standards of the 90s money, initially was not the highest priority project for those filmmakers who were offered to deal with it. From directing speed at the time completely refused Quentin Tarantino and Rennie Harlin. They did not have much desire to play the lead role of Tom Cruise, Bruce Willis and Johnny Depp, considering ' Speed' another unnecessary curtsey towards the militants of the past decade. Nevertheless, in the script written by Graham Jost, Jan de Bont himself saw very promising details, who managed to work as an operator on such action films as ' Black Rain' and ' Lethal Weapon 3', which means he understands what a good action game is and how it can be put even for relatively little money. In addition to de Bont ' Speed ' Keanu Reeves was also interested, who by the time of filming with de Bont turned into one of the most popular Hollywood actors, starring in ' Incredible Adventures of Bill and Ted', ' Dracula' and 'On the Crest of Wave'. Having enough experience and foresight at his young age, Reeves, unlike his colleagues, believed in the idea of the film, and as we can see, did not fail at all.
Maybe from a dramatic point of view 'Speed' looks far from the most versatile film, and yet only sitting down for viewing, the viewer begins to feel the tension that grows from scene to scene. Jan de Bont brilliantly manipulates our emotions, and it’s clear that a spectacular elevator entry is not an introduction to something bigger and more intense. And in order to captivate the viewer, make him sit literally on the tip of a chair and squeeze his fists from experiences, it is absolutely not necessary to let hordes of aliens into the city or undermine entire neighborhoods. It is enough to concentrate the maximum suspense on just one object, as in the case of ' Speed' became an ordinary bus. Throughout most of the film, we are in the cabin with a limited number of people and not the largest field for possible action. But the creators managed to show so much action that it would have been enough for another film. The bus does not have the right to stop, in front of the road with various obstacles, and it is unknown how a terrorist can behave. Maybe he decided to change his plans or intervene. Until the very end of this confrontation, there is a huge tension, and de Bont’s ability to build competent relationships between the characters and heat the action to the highest level becomes one of the greatest advantages of the production, which will not let go of even the most demanding person in terms of spectacles.
Of course, Jan de Bont did a significant job and in his debut showed that on the set of his previous works, where he performed the functions of an operator, competently noticed the work of talented directors, thereby gaining experience in order to become a confident director himself. 'Speed' for good reason became the exemplary action of its time. Yes, it may be quite simple in dramatic terms, but the tension that the authors put into the story, as well as the magnificently performed roles, ensured the film a real immortality and it is still out of competition.
How to fight for life to unload half of Los Angeles
A terrorist planted a bomb in the high-speed elevator of a skyscraper somewhere in Los Angeles. Police officer Jack Traven and partner Gary disrupt the plans of the criminal, but it turns out that this is only the beginning of the game. There is a bus in front that cannot be stopped.
Jan de Bont is Verhoeven's permanent cameraman, who moved to Hollywood after him, where he shot not only his films, but also Die Hard, for example. Speed is his directorial debut, showing how well the Dutchman mastered the Hollywood standards of the 90s. It turned out a kind of hybrid action movie, disaster film, thriller and road movie. From the 90s, there is also an absolute disregard for realism and at least elementary logic. For example, such a lot of equipment and everything exploded, you already want to shout: If you pay this terrorist, it will be cheaper. Keanu Reeves’ survival reminds us of a cat and its 9 lives.
But everything is compensated by an absolutely adrenaline spectacle, which cannot stop in principle. If you remove the disputes of passengers on moral issues, the roof will be demolished. There is another coup - Sandra Bullock as the driver, diluted the brutal masculinity of the confrontation between Reeves and Hopper (his madness even begins to attract at some point).
So if you want to turn into a teenager with your mouth open for an hour and a half or two, watch Speed. The film is 25 years old and it is still good. And given that there are still traffic jams in Los Angeles, the topic is also relevant.
The film is 26 years old and it is still one of the best in its genre.
I don’t know how old-school directors managed to produce such films while on the conveyor.
Apparently, this was a special time in Hollywood, which unfortunately can not be returned, as well as the pictures of those people.
This is one of those films that you have already kind of seen more than one or two dozen times, but if you accidentally stumble upon it on TV in the evening / night leafing through the channels, then you will definitely stay on it and will gladly watch until the end for the nth time.
I won’t write about the actors – everything is played perfectly, from the main characters, ending with the commander of the SWAT squad Mac, or the hero of Jeff Daniels – Harry, or that guy from the bus in a shirt and hair on the shoulders.
For which I love films of the 80s-90s that they are as alive as possible and draw the viewer in full.
The so-called atmosphere in the film is now what almost all modern films lack.
There is nothing more to write and nothing more.
The film is already an ageless classic.
Special thanks except that you can say actors dubbing that period, who are remembered for their well-chosen recognizable voices in various films, including this one.
10 out of 10.
A very famous television star once said that no one has ever made a film better than Speed. So what does that do? “Speed” is the most beautiful film in the world, and no one can beat its masterpiece and elitism? Hardly. But she still deserves ten points. Here's why. This tape is an example of the most vivid embodiment of almost all elements of classical action; and these elements are very clearly combined with each other. Simply put, “Speed” is the standard of this genre. The plot is an intrigue of the highest class, and the production is even better (this arrangement is, unfortunately, not so often).
Actors are selected with professional excitement. One Dennis Hopper worth what... Now for Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock... A good and extraordinary movie couple. You can't confuse them with anyone. The specific features of Keanu Reeves’s face, his role and manner of playing leave an imprint of some mystery on any film work in which he takes part. The same goes for his partner... The creators of the film “Speed” made a good choice and quite well took advantage of the originality of these actors. This move served as an excellent help in the full disclosure of the scenario mechanisms of the thriller.
In general, the main storyline of this picture is found in many action films. On the screen (and in life, unfortunately) we see how terrorists, sick people or ordinary losers seize planes, trains, ships. But terrorizing the passengers of a city bus, and even remotely (not personally, but with the help of special devices) is an unprecedented ingenuity. This is the main feature of this film history.
I love Sandra Bullock in all the movies. But "Speed" I have never met before. Admittedly, I learned about this film by accident, only yesterday, when a friend came to visit and we decided to watch another film with Sandra ( "While you slept", which I really love, and she has never seen it, because she is biased towards Hollywood films). And she remembered "Speed" as a movie her brother had gone crazy. I was interested, I really wanted to know what the movie was. I immediately went online to search for information about this film. I look at it, and there is also Keanu Reeves removed. I’m not a fan of him, but the movies I saw with him have stuck with me and I watch them from time to time. And as a friend was impressed with the film "While you slept", and I was impressed with this film.
The film is very good, the movies were made much better than now, you can watch them many times and every time you think that something can change. In the film, a regular bus was taken hostage, planting a bomb in it. The plot is familiar to everyone, but many interesting moments that made it unique (especially remember the young ones Sandra Bullock and Kianu Reeves).
Unbelievable drive does not let go even after watching ! I really liked Dennis Hopper in the role of a villain and the incredible, sophisticated contempt and sarcasm with which he committed his crimes.
I don’t remember in which year Sandra was recognized as the most direct actress in Hollywood. In my opinion, this film completely justifies this award. So convey the whole range of feelings of a woman in such a situation. From hysteria to determination, from panic to courage. Amazing. Reeves is also 5+. I think this movie will never get bored. Classic of the genre.
"Speed" forever crashed into my brain. I like absolutely everything: the plot, actors, the work of stuntmen and the embodiment of stunts on the movie screen. I think I can call myself a fan of 90s movies, and this movie has been a flash in my mind and I’m going to watch it again and again. Despite the fact that the film is more than 20 years old, I have not seen it before (somehow, it passed me by), and I watched it for the first time only today. The constant dynamics and tense storyline will not leave indifferent fans of this genre. Everything is as it should be in the fight between good and evil ... and even with the charm of the 90s.
Amazingly high-speed tape, captivates inexhaustible drive, incendiary excitement and bright acting of characters - both positive heroes and villains. In the death race weaves humor with romance. The plot is thought out, the film is bright and memorable, the name for the thriller was chosen very successfully. The speed is felt in everything. A classic of American cinema, in principle, again a hero policeman, again a smart psycho-terrorist, and again heroism for the whole film, but nevertheless, a classic. For fans of this genre and a good selection of actors, the film itself is a very, very interesting thing.
If the well-known chamber of measures and weights would also have the standard measures of film genres, then the standard of the action movie "Speed" would have every chance! Along with Die Hard, Speed is now one of the kings of classic and high-quality Hollywood action films. I highly recommend. The ending is certainly too Hollywood, but it didn't spoil the impression.
It was the first film with K. Reeves in the lead role that I saw. There was Bram Stoker's Dracula before, but I didn't watch it until the middle, so I don't count it. It was this tape that became the first full-fledged work of Reeves for me, after which I got to know this actor and fell in love. This is a good start for dating.
The film as a child I liked wildly, but somehow, slightly forgotten, and recently I remembered and realized that it is necessary to refresh it in memory. It was interesting to know if it was outdated by current standards and, if so, how old. Turns out almost not. He looks really cool right now, in one breath. Where necessary, you experience tension, and there are many such moments. The whole film is very dynamic, because about two-thirds of the events, if not more, take place on the road. It, as expected, contains all the attributes of the militant, well, only hand-to-hand in its pure form, but this is not a minus. There's no downside to the action either. In the picture, something happens all the time, some events replace others, everything goes quickly, you simply do not have time to get bored. Of course, for its genre, there are some scenario assumptions in favor of entertainment and to create a tense environment, such as a bus flying across the abyss, but I think the film only benefits from this.
Reeves there is so young, very young and how well plays his character, just admire. His hero is an energetic, purposeful man of work, professionally performing his work, which he always wants to finish, not afraid to take risks. His antagonist is a pensioner resentful of the government, who is well versed in subversives, bombs, explosives, who believes that it is time for him to be fully paid what he deserved, earned for a lifetime. He doesn’t call himself crazy, but eccentric. And he's not bluffing, he's really willing to detonate his bombs, killing a lot of people. This role was perfectly performed by the now forgotten, I think, D. Hopper. His character was remembered.
This film can definitely be called one of the best works of Reeves, and Hopper, and director J. de Bont. Such a film you want to review and revise and it’s not about nostalgia. the movie is really good and not outdated. Fans of drive action movies from viewing are provided with pleasure.
Alfred Hitchcock once said, “History must be incredible, dramatic and human.” Many masters of author’s cinema will argue with the classic at least about the first postulate, but if you take into account the purely mass art, Hitchcock is damn right. Most come to the cinemas to escape from everyday life and dive into the world of dreams. A universe where superheroes and megavillains live, where there is no place for boredom, and events are full of sparkling adventures. Therefore, meticulous verisimilitude is the last thing we want to see in an entertaining action movie, thriller or horror. Really important is a deep immersion in the fairy tale of good and evil, in which we will stay for an hour and a half or two, experiencing vivid emotions. Here, fascinating is the antithesis of truthfulness, and heroes are real when they have characters and motivation.
Thorough-blooded action “Speed” is the directorial debut of the famous operator Jan de Bont. But it is one thing to write a spectacular picture with a camera under the guidance of other creators, and quite another to personally manage the process when you need not only to shoot, but also to create objects. The technical understanding of filmmaking is felt in de Bont’s subsequent projects, but in terms of artistic and emotionality, “Speed” remained the best film of the director. The reason for this is the perfect selection of ingredients for a magnificent action movie, which does not become obsolete, including thanks to the drama and humanity that Hitchcock spoke about.
... The bus, packed with passengers, rushes through the bustling streets of the metropolis. There's a bomb in the bus. If the car slows down, explosion! If the police try to film people, explosion! And if the unknown villain is not paid in a matter of hours - explosion! The fate of the hostages depends on Jack Traven - an operative who has personal accounts with the "subversive".
Jan de Bont sets the pace from the first frame. Let the prologue have a conditional relation to the main action (telling how the “good guy” met a smart scoundrel), it already feels the powerful dynamics of the film. Next, the director immediately puts the characters in an extreme situation, through which he will reveal their characters. It literally makes the viewer feel like one of the hostages in a confined space, where the moments of life measure the speedometer and the countdown to the explosion. Here, the bus itself is one of the main characters you pray for – “Please don’t break down or we’ll die!” The situation is stalemate, the enemy is out of reach, and the ransom paid will not save anyone ... Only a "good guy" can help the doomed, unless he himself dies.
“Speed” is a unique “nonstop action”, in which almost no shooting or fighting, but the intensity of passion, colorful visual and energetic suspense surpass a dozen more modest fighters combined. The special effects are bright and lush, the degree of attraction is constantly growing, and the project has a surprisingly successful casting. You can consider Keanu Reeves as a “wooden actor” as much as you like, but in “Speed” he is exactly what you need – an unflappable and courageous cop who shows emotions only when it is impossible to restrain himself. Sandra Bullock is perfect in the image of a random rescuer of dozens of people, an ordinary girl forced to sit behind the wheel of a damn bus. Well, Dennis Hopper in the textbook skin of a notorious scoundrel is terribly expressive. It is debatable to say that the selected actors largely ensured the success of the film (however not to beat it, first of all it is a director's picture), but over the years it is difficult to imagine other performers in their places. Collectively, the audience received a delicious cocktail from a rather original plot, drive directing and enchanting action scenes. With a mass of filmed militants, “Speed” is a piece product deservedly ranked among the masterpieces of the genre.
9 out of 10
Imagine a warm, sunny day on which you normally go on your own business. You approach the stop, wait for the arrival of your bus, upon its arrival - calmly move your body into its internal space and safely go on the road, along the traditionally established route.
Suddenly, you realize that the bus is bombed with enough explosives to blow up the entire city. You know, everything happens in our lives, you can stop, arrest all the bad guys and clear the explosives painlessly. However, one “but”, the bus is moving at a speed of 50 miles / h, once the arrow of the speedometer drops to below 50, the explosive mechanism will work and the end (the session will definitely have no one to take).
One can only imagine a moving bus during rush hour with a full passenger compartment under the control of a young girl who has an exclamation mark, a kettle and a strange-looking shoes with the caption “respect me” on the back window of the car. Now you are absolutely guaranteed a good adventure with the risk of life.
The film “Speed” is one of the most iconic action films in the history of Hollywood cinema directed by Jan de Bont. In the list of the American Film Institute "100 most exciting films" this picture took 99th place. In addition, this film became a ticket to the world of big cinema for the famous Canadian-American actor, Keanu Reeves. Few people could imagine that it would seem “another action movie” will grow into a cult sensation, and then into a significant success.
You can shower this film with an endless torrential rain with a sea of praise, but it deserves it.
I would like to highlight the most impressive and best aspects of this picture:
1) An immeasurably exciting plot of the film. Since the main events of the film are related to hostage-taking, constant movement, overcoming unforeseen obstacles with many major accidents and the very realization that the explosive mechanism is capable of exploding if not accidentally, then at the whim of the terrorist - keeps in suspense all the full 116 minutes of the film without respite. Very sophisticated management of the main villain triad of deadly games, under the names: "Unfortunate landing in the elevator", "Unhappy bus No. 2525" and "One-way train" - will undoubtedly not leave indifferent all fans of excellent fighters;
2) Excellent camera work. In my opinion, unlike all sorts of comedies, melodramas and simple horror films, in action movies, in which 86% of events occur on “wheels” with many accidents, it is much more difficult for operators to work. Special stunts performed by the bus are filmed phenomenally and very realistically.
(3) Shiny original soundtracks. The musical compositions of composer Marc Mancina perfectly complement not only all the exciting events of the film, but also its lyrical and final romantic side. As a lyrical moment, we can single out an episode in which the main character Jack Traven, looking at Annie, desperately decides to dial the maximum speed for the train to absorb the shock;
(4) The film “Speed” is one of the brightest standards of exciting action films, which perfectly combines the lyrical and romantic side. With the naked eye, you can see how each event gradually brings the main characters (Jack and Annie) closer together.
(5) Excellent cast of actors. Initially, the main role of a police officer, Jack Traven was offered to many such famous actors as Tom Hanks, Bruce Willis, Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp and others, but they all turned it down. In my opinion, the main role has found its true performer - Keanu Reeves. It should be noted that my favorite screen duo Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock in 1995 was awarded the MTV award for Best Screen Duo, followed by such nominations as: Best Actor (Keanu Reeves), Most Desirable Man (Keanu Reeves) and Best Kiss (between Keanu and Sandra in the film’s epilogue).
As a lover and connoisseur of great action films with elements of romantic melodrama, I fully guarantee that you should free the next 116 minutes of your life from all kinds of affairs, personally watch this film and make your subjective assessment of it.
10 out of 10
I watched the movie as a child. Not to say that I really liked, but the idea was interesting and implemented well. So I put this film on my list to refresh my memory.
A mad terrorist mines an elevator. But a special unit of the LAPD thwarts his plans and rescues the hostages. In order to take revenge on the police, a sapper places a bomb on a regular bus, which will explode if the speed of the bus falls below 50 miles per hour.
“Speed” can rightfully be called the most dynamic film of the 90s. He keeps the audience in suspense from the beginning, and does not let go until the end. The plot, although simple, is a very fascinating sight. Of course, there is no intrigue at the end of the film, but it is no less interesting to watch it.
But like any disaster movie, Speed has its drawbacks. The main disadvantage here can be determined by tightness. If it were justified, it would not be obvious. There are a lot of unnecessary events, dialogues, secondary stories. If you cut them out, the main story will not change, but it will be easier to watch, not paying attention to unnecessary details.
I had the chance to watch this film by chance again, with a huge multi-year break. But the film, which was once seen, remained in the memory, and therefore, when I came across it on television, I settled down on the couch more comfortable, preparing with pleasure to spend the next hour and a half. What was my surprise when I learned about two Oscars, which went to such a simple action movie with acting, not distinguished by special depth and drama. However, this film does not notice any absolutely flaws (except for the technical part, in which I am not a specialist, and in the rest of the audience I am not so sure). “Speed” generates audience interest immediately, and until the very end it is impossible to come off.
At first and until the final, the plot here is consistently interesting. Here's the terrorist, here's his plan, here's the elevator his victims got into. The setting of the film inside a huge, multi-storey building, with an emphasis on the elevator and all the turns and consequences that follow from it, is already intriguing, but then - even more interesting - the action moves to the bus with passengers: they are like pawns in the game between good (K. Reeves) and evil (D. Hopper). The bus is driven by the inimitable, comical and not terribly unsuccessful Annie (S. Bullock).
As a result: the film is insanely dynamic, not fed any kind of special effects, acting at the proper level, with a couple of strong dramas, by the way. The solo pursuit of a bus on American roads keeps you on edge, despite the fact that you kind of know the heroes (many of them) will be fine. It is much more interesting to watch the passengers of the unfortunate bus go through all the obstacles on the way to their own salvation.
A good, nostalgic attitude to “Speed” has remained until now, which cannot be said, of course, about “Speed 2”. When I first met him, the first mistake I noticed was the absence of Jack and the presence of Annie. Why? Rough work: either both played further or both sunk into oblivion.
For those who grew up on the action movies of the 90s and have not yet seen “Speed” – I sincerely recommend it. Although, the generation of two thousandths, perhaps, will also be interested in how it is worth it for me.
Nicely put. And most importantly, there is no exaggeration. Not literally or figuratively. “Precision is the courtesy of kings.” The old man really succumbed to emotions and, instead of continuing to deftly click buttons at a distance, for some reason went to find out the relationship “in an unequal battle” one on one. With that king. I didn’t have to look at it anymore...
Especially since “their majesty” coupled with, no other way, the nominee for the title of “driver of the year” was broadcast almost the worst kiss in my memory in the diaphragm. Perhaps K. Reeves already understood that the continuation of the film is inevitable, but he will not participate in it. I was unable to concentrate properly. "Sometimes!"
One day I passed this movie in the blessed 90s. And I was able to watch it for the first time only now, already being to some extent an admirer of the work of the aforementioned actor. Of course, I wanted to see something at least on the crest of the wave. And, frankly, certain prerequisites to hope for the success of the “mission” took place. The name is on the ear; the plot, as they say, is cheerful; and S. Bullock and D. Hopper are people, no matter how you say, in Hollywood not the last.
But it didn't work out. I didn't get hooked on that bus tramp with the prologue and epilogue. I remember only an episode with a directed action mine, which prevented one overly emotional lady from getting off at a stop on demand. Anyway, get off safe and sound.
The rest... It was just boring, what a sin to hide. Maybe it's because I'm indifferent to racing. Or before that, these ace drivers, always hiding under the masks of ordinary citizens in anticipation of the starry hour - a plague chase (preferably with shooting) for someone or, on the contrary, a phenomenal escape from such. Don't know. And whether it really matters. The main thing is the result. He's not here.
No, I willingly believe that shooting could be difficult and risky, and stunts – and even deadly. The question is, what is this all about? Is it just in the name of a relationship that is “sex based”? In this case, and not expensive candles, and I want to ask?
Good to see you. I'll know. It's hard to rethink.
" You look at me like you want to propose to me.
- Maybe. I've already thought about it.
- I hope not. Relationships that begin in emergencies usually don’t last long.
- Yes?
- Yes, I've been studying this on purpose.
Watched in translation by Andrei Gavrilov. A real movie from the '90s. Keanu Reeves is 30. This film has no artistic value. You watch it to get back into your teenage frustration. When the desires did not match the available possibilities. How much has changed in the last 20 years?
An explosive maniac, played by blue-eyed Dennis Hopper, wants to wreck and break. And he wants three million dollars. He is stopped by Los Angeles police officer Jack Traven (Keanu Reeves). Dilutes their men's company bold and sweet Sandra Bullock. Because of the scenes of violence rating “from 16 years”.
In the first half of the film, you think about how far modern cinema with special effects has gone. And then you fall in love with heroes and forget about inconsistencies. The stuntmen's work is impressive. The last shots are one of the best in the love lyrics of world cinema.
On one passenger bus No. 2525 there is a bank advertisement with such a slogan. And it's also the life creed of one terrorist who mined that bus. Not just mined, but approached the case with the taste of a sophisticated psychopath. The bus needs to go no slower than 50 mph (80 km / h) so as not to explode. Ah, yes, the bomb cannot be deactivated, passengers cannot be evacuated. Now imagine: Los Angeles, traffic jams, pedestrians, traffic lights, corners. But the speed is not slowed down, otherwise Kicken!! Well, here's what else is needed for a good action?
The operator only adds fuel to the fire. The camera moves very correctly, racing with the bus, so the wind is in your ears. I'd watch it in 4D, I'd lose it. Helicopter shooting from a bird's eye view is simply breathtaking.
The director did his best. This is Jan de Bont's debut in the production, and he certainly jumped over his head, and jumped very spectacularly. The tension is such that the muscles are draining. In the final credits, you will definitely feel it. I even did a couple of physical exercises afterwards. Each scene is riddled with strained nerves. Combined with stunning music and brilliant play, the effect is cooler than a bomb.
Although, they say, actors in action films are not the main thing. Well, then thank you very much to all, without exception, the composition that did not start working full time, but gave 100%. Even minor characters become almost native during viewing.
The main characters are Annie and Jack. Annie acts as a driver under the circumstances. Although she's an ordinary American who took the bus to work today because her license was taken away for speeding. Well, she can drive. Annie's a fire bab. I don’t know if the horse will stop the gallop, but the bus copes with amazing. Sandy Bullock played one of the main roles in her career. It was speed that unlocked its potential. Moderately comic, moderately dramatic. And this balance still allows her to remain a sought-after actress.
Jack's a cop. He learned of the danger and jumped on the bus. And now he is trying to resolve the situation on the road, negotiate with the terrorist, and at the same time deactivate the bomb. Along the way, she manages to calm down passengers and form some pretty chemistry with Annie. Actually, the guy's nowhere. Looking at Keanu Reeves is a real aesthetic pleasure. It's hard to tell what he's doing. Look at you? But he's never even taken off his shirt, and we've been in trouble. That's charisma. They look great with Sandra. This is one of the most memorable and cute screen pairs.
Thanks to the terrorist villain. It was through him that Jack and Annie met. But he is, of course, a bad person. A former police officer, he is taking revenge on his former bosses for once being unfairly retired and willing to put dozens of lives at risk in order to get a ransom. The role is played by Dennis Hopper. His appearance is in stark contrast to the character. If you know this actor, you know what I mean. He's a very pretty man, and his character is crazy. But this contrast only adds tension - he looks at you with his big, kind eyes, and he holds his hand on the remote control from the bomb. Strong.
I would especially like to mention Jeff Daniels. He plays Jack’s secondary partner, Harry. However, each appearance on the screen caused a storm of emotions - from laughter to tears. There's one moment in the movie, before the house exploded, Harry has fear and anger and determination and irony on his face and more. Just pause and look into those eyes. Insert this moment in video lessons and show all underactors.
Let me say a few words about music. It's incredible -- you'll be amazed at how accurately it conveys emotion. From the first chords of the opening credits, I knew that I would love this movie forever.
I wish I could write more, but praising is harder than criticizing. Because there are no words, there would be a jaw from the floor to pick up.
If you've just gotten to this movie, you're either very young, or modern cinema has just turned your head, blinded you, wrapped you that you didn't even have a chance to catch your breath and see something worthwhile. Just like me. But I did, and you know what? I’m already going to buy my own CD, because I really liked the film and the soul needs to be revised.
I am writing about one of my favorite films. In short, the plot is this:
Jack Traven (Keanu Reeves), a tough SWAT, (Americans are always cool), so that's how Jack is, too. He lives himself, goes to work doing his duty. when suddenly his peace is violated by a terrorist named Howard Payne (the beautiful role of Denis Hopper), and he violates it by installing a bomb in the elevator of one of the high-rise buildings, but this was not the case, because Jack and his friend Harry (Jeff Daniels) are real specialists in their field. And they easily solve this problem by releasing all the hostages, perfectly performing an operation in which the only one who dies is the terrorist himself, and all the hostages are released, and now Jack and Harry (the Americans always do) have become heroes.
After celebrating the victory, Jack decides to return to normal life. A bus explodes in the explosion of which all passengers die (because it turns out that our Terrorist is not dead at all, but is alive healthy). And he informs Jack that he has a surprise for Jack, namely another bus, and another bomb that will explode if the speed goes below 50 miles per hour. But how?
How to get on a bus that is moving? How do you make sure that the speed does not fall below 50 miles per hour? After all, the bomb will explode, and not only Jack, but all the passengers on the bus will die. But the brave Jack will do anything to save people, even risking his own life.
Speed is a movie that keeps in suspense from the beginning, and does not let go until the last minute. And the director managed to create a masterpiece of the action movie Why? Let's figure it out:
1. The film has all the classic features of a “terrorist fighter” because it has a cool protagonist and a terrorist and a girl. In her role is a charming Sandra Bullock, who will help our hero solve all his problems.
2. The film is very dynamic, and rushes without stopping for a minute without giving the viewer a second to rest.
4. Well, the most important advantage of the film is a terrorist (the brilliant role of Denis Hopper), who literally breaks all stereotypes about terrorists in the movies. After all, this time we are not a morose bandit, but a cheerful man who, despite his irony, is ready to blow up this bus to the hell.
To sum it up: great movie. Just a reference action movie that looks great and now 20 years after the release on the screens
PS This film exists with a posh translation of A Gavrilov. This is what I recommend to watch.
“Speed” is an American criminal action movie with elements of a 1994 thriller. The movie turned out to be interesting, dynamic and twisted. It is filled with bright scenes, various unexpected moments, anxiety and a good, peculiar atmosphere. I have loved it since childhood and I think it deserves attention to this day. We see that a terrorist has mined a bus with passengers and is watching it, and if the bus slows down, it will explode instantly. In confrontation with the plans of the terrorist enters a special forces fighter, who once thwarted the plans of this villain.
The movie takes the viewer into an exciting and impressive, frenetic story, from which it is impossible to break away and the whole film looks in one breath. The budget of the film is 30 million dollars, so the film was shot qualitatively and with dignity. Keanu Reeves is one of my favorite actors, and in this action movie he played chic and coped with his role one hundred percent. He's a handsome man and a good actor, and I love watching movies with him. Sandra Bullock is also a good American actress with a memorable appearance, and it was after this film that I remember her well, and I began to get acquainted with her career as an actress. The duet of these actors was pleasant, and together they looked great.
Ian de Bont made some really good and powerful movies, and this movie is one of my favorites. Watch "Speed", and this American explosive action movie will take you into an incredible dynamic story, seeing which will be impossible to forget.
Of all the horror that came out in the nineties, out of a thousand meaningless thrillers, critics chose Speed to revere. “Speed” is loved not only by critics, but also by the average viewer, who is also cautious about such projects. The most incomprehensible is that the film of Jan de Bont is fundamentally different from any film with Steven Seagal.
In "Speed," Dennis Hopper retired to play the self-parody role of a retired police officer who devises sophisticated bomb traps to obtain a ransom from the government. Why the old man with a gold watch this money is not clear, and in general the image of the main villain will be pulled by the edges of the earlobes, he looks so ridiculous. Therefore, Keanu Reeves is just a good cop who became a hero twice by captivity.
The ridiculous scenes of a bus that crashes into a number of cars and manages to keep up with the speed of fifty miles per hour, just a lot. “Speed” in itself is a complete absurdity. No matter what senseless, inadequate and suicidal act Keanu Reeves’ hero did, he will win, well, or survive at least, so the thriller from “Speed” does not work. When the viewer finds that there is no tension, he discovers that everything else too.
Watching 2 hours of cardboard special effects, a bored Hopper and a megapathic Reeves is not the most pleasant prospect.
I don’t know why everyone loves speed so much. Reasons to watch a "Die Hard" or "Lethal Weapon" just a bunch, and "Speed" does not work even as a movie-beer for the evening.
The bus that brought her to real fame. And since then, the speed of her career has always been less than 50.
Watching her character Annie, it always feels like you were driving that car. I also wanted to scream, holding the steering wheel at “what does it mean to turn steep?”; to feel depressed, “rejoicing that I am still alive”; to resent the children who crossed the road, and to indignate, “why are they not at school?”
The action movie is unique in that Annie was not just the girl of the main character, a beautiful accessory and an addition to it, like Bond companions. A heroine, although not as much influence on the storyline as Jack (Keanu's character), but her absence would make the tape dry and standard. Already unusual her answer to Jack about relationships that begin in extreme situations (only this phrase is very upsetting while watching “Speed-2”).
And these extreme situations are so breathtaking that it is not immediately possible to recover when they are over. It's not like everyone follows each other. Only you will be happy for the experience of one obstacle, immediately a new one appears.
Music emphasizes everything. And the drama before the cliff of an unfinished highway, and the tension before Jack jumped on the bus trying to stop him. By the way, I don’t know why the bus numbers are written on the roofs, but thanks for seeing everything, and it’s clear which bus to watch.
And they shot, probably, from every angle that can be in the world. And from a bird's eye view, and from the "lower" level of asphalt. We gave you the opportunity to explore every cog of this bus, which has become one of the most famous transports in the world of cinema. After all, this bus seems to have come to life in a King’s way, not letting passengers out, and exterminating everyone who does not play its game.
And the damage to the city was much more than the $3 million the terrorist asked for. But still... it's Los Angeles! It should always be spectacular! And expensive! And everyone who goes there, probably in secret, hopes to experience something similar, as well as the annoying tourist, from whom Annie moved to another seat at the beginning of the film.
There are movies that make you think. Think about something important in our lives and in society. There are those where you have to work your head for a long time just to understand what is happening on the screen and collect the pieces of the director’s mosaic into one whole. There are just beautiful films that give pleasure from the picture – earthly and cosmic landscapes, which we do not have the opportunity to observe outside our window. It's hard to find anything in "Speed."
There are actors who give out a variety of emotions for a couple of hours. We know them well, and many movies are saved by their play alone. In "Speed" revelations of acting art is not observed.
I love Speed. Why is that? It's simple. It's a canonical action movie. The task is to keep the viewer in suspense. To present us with images of people who cause interest and empathy. The maximum task is not to frighten the audience, respecting logic, physics and common sense. And the solution of the problem was carried out at height. And let some of the events happen surprisingly to the place - no one canceled the Chekhov rifles. The bus jumps and you believe it. The action does not stop until the last second - and this is good.
And it is very important when everything that happens does not remain an empty trail in the characters of those with whom we meet from the first minutes. Hero Keanu Reeves clearly learned a couple of lessons for himself, and with him we have a chance to make decisions more balanced and make the most of our advantages. I do not believe such fanaticism of our villain – Dennis Hopper on the screen showed a rather pleasant elderly man that could well abandon his cruel plan. But not everyone is a Vader. And of course, for a long time remembered so directly and charmingly swearing, nervous, but continues to perform its task cat Sandra.
And the music is good, keeps the rhythm. Have you ever been on a bus race on the Los Angeles Freeway? You know what to do.
From the first minute of the film, listening to selected music, you already understand that you are waiting for watching a classic action movie. Then comes the villain, and of course the hero. A beautiful girl that a lifeguard falls in love with. Everything is as it should be.
Acting. Great work of the whole squad, Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock and Denis Hopper played wonderfully, which is not a sensation. Their names have already been said. But still want to emphasize the work of Denis Hopper-villain, he played the best possible. Smart, eccentric, with a black sense of humor and love of money.
In addition to acting, one cannot but praise the director and the cameraman. Ian De Bont is on top. Oscar for sound and its editing received deservedly, in this regard, everything is at the highest level.
The jokes were fun and appropriate. I did not expect to see a semantic load in the film, but it still exists. One can observe the shadow of discontent with the social system against the police.
I do not regret the time spent and I recommend watching.
A long time ago, when I was a kid, I saw a movie on TV where the bus couldn't stop. Since I am not a fan of watching movies from the beginning, I turned off the movie, but the thought of the bus came to me periodically. I really wanted to find this movie. Looking at the filmography of my beloved Sandra Bullock, I see the movie Speed. He is very much praised, and indeed Oscar. We have to watch. Who would have thought this was the movie? Nice surprise.
Including Speed, we see an elevator shaft. Some madman put a bomb in the elevator with people and demands money.
From the 10th minute of the film, I sat in front of the screen, unable to come off. And that was before the credits ended! I couldn't get up, I couldn't move. It's very, very rare. I was under hypnosis.
Next, the perpetrator of the “celebration” blows up the bus, and then mines the next one. There are 13 people in the cabin and no one is allowed to go out. The bus should not stop and should not slow down traffic. Otherwise, everyone will fly into the air.
The bus goes through a red light, hits cars, people. Everyone's panicked, everyone's terrified. "Speed" is all adrenaline. Shit! All the time, I felt like I was on that bus, that I was on that subway. It tickles my nerves, it infects me. It's impossible not to penetrate. It is impossible to remain indifferent.
This is a big movie. I will be revisiting it for sure!
All the way through my head was very often: “What a nightmare!”, “What if I run out of gas?” What if they hit a gas tank? Lots of thoughts, lots of feelings.
In the end, I burst into tears! An overabundance of emotions. Being in such monstrous tension for 2 hours, and then I had the feeling that I was sulking. It was incredible. Strong emotions. The most decorated Oscar, perhaps on par with the Titanic. Oscars often get slow movies. But “Speed” itself doesn’t sound slow.
I love this movie. It was worth reviewing a lot of empty spaces to get to this movie definitely. It's worth it. It's worth a lot.
Sandra's always insanely good. I love it even more after this movie. Keanu is delightful. I never paid attention to him, but he is very good.
As you can see, I am very impressed...
Crime action film of the mid-90s “Speed” received two Oscars for “Best Sound” and “Best Sound Editing”, ahead of “Forest Gump” and “Direct and Clear Threat” – its competitors in both nominations, is an excellent representative of its genre. Although the plot theme “terrorist – hostage – policeman” before “Speed” has already met, this action movie has not remained uninteresting for a wide audience, critics and me in particular.
First of all, the tandem of Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock is interesting at the dawn of their careers, to which Dennis Hopper joined, becoming the personification of villainy in this picture. And in general, the hero of Hopper surprised with his determination in his lawless business. The persistence of the former cop at any cost to get money seems naive, but the fact that he held the course until his death. There's something about that.
As for Keanu, he's good at it. I worked 100 percent. As always charismatic, in action and Bullock looks very harmonious, as evidenced by the award MTV for best screen duet.
I was also very impressed by Andrzej Bartovyak’s camera work, in which he showed his talent, I think, to the fullest extent. All the most difficult moments of the film: shooting in the elevator shaft, all the time chasing the bus, even the last minutes of the film with the subway train, although the layout was used in this case - everything was filmed at a high level.
As a result, for all this and for the great mood that this film gave me, “Speed” deservedly receives a solid from me.
8 out of 10
Another great movie with Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves. The first time I saw them was in The Lake House, although it came out 12 years later, and the plots of the two films have nothing in common.
“Speed” is one of those movies, while watching which you forget about everything around and completely immerse yourself in the plot. And while the camera doesn’t leave the bus for much of the film, it doesn’t get boring. This is one of the best examples of how you can make a beautiful film and, at the same time, not bother with the scenery.
The actors played just fine! Confident Keanu Reeves and frightened but stubborn Sandra Bullock made an excellent pair.
Anyway, it's a great movie! I am sure I will review it again.
How sad to realize this, but recently the real militants sank into the tape. Over the past few years, there have been no rentals of standing teething films with the participation of the same teething actors. As such, the genre of “American action” firmly staked itself a “place in the cemetery”. But before the "fighter" loses its wide popularity, in 1994, the film "Speed" directed by Jan de Bont appeared on the screens of the world. And critics, without any doubt, attributed this creation to the last films of the disappearing genre.
94, Los Angeles. Every day this city is under the scorching sun. Hundreds of thousands of people enjoy life. Local crime does not shine a fountain from the ground, everything is relatively calm. Up to one point, an unknown person took ordinary people hostage, locked in an elevator at a height of forty floors. The terrorist demands a huge amount of money, and gets caught on his greed. After a failed suicide bombing, Jack and Harry, the guys who caught the scumbag, thought that the man was over, and they are not in danger. But all of a sudden, this unknown person re-appears, and this time, his love of money has shifted to another level, and all he needs is $4 million in cash by noon. And if there is no money at the specified time and in the specified place, then a city bus clogged to failure will fly into the air. Jack will have to think faster, a few steps ahead of the psychopath, otherwise with the bus to the other world will go a huge number of innocent people.
At the time of filming, Keanu Reeves was 29, Sandra Bullock was 30, and Dennis Hopper was 56. However, the age of the first two did not prevent them from playing their young characters. Reeves, who at the time of 94 was just making his ascent in Hollywood, really proved himself, making critics constantly talk about him. Bullock, in her 30s, looked unbearably stunning. And her smooth and smooth face, without the slightest hint of wrinkles, and this sincere smile that makes you want to look at Sandra all the time. I must admit that the youth of the actress was incendiary. Dennis Hopper is the main enemy of Reeves. The character of Hopper turned out to be truly unambiguous. He seems to be a ruthless ex-cop who is married to explosives, and everyone wants the moment when all this power is blown up. But deep down, he is a man capable of compassion and understanding. But, apparently, the difficult financial situation forces him to take such actions, simultaneously completely changing his character, his worldview. As they say, skill is neither smoked nor drunk, Mr. Hopper.
It is worth noting that for 1994, the graphics remained at the highest level throughout the film. Modern directors have a completely different idea about the frame, its filling. Many now choose to convert to 3D, but this cash register can not only rise, but even not budge. “Speed” is an example of how in modern conditions you can “raise money”, but without spending huge amounts on 3D and everything like it.
One of the last films of the genre, “Speed” all the time pleases the eye with an exciting action and one continuous hassle. And the scenes at the airport and the departure of a subway car from the ground is the most obvious example of this. In general, de Bont had a great directorial debut.
I love this movie! Speed is a movie with a simple action story, but personally I have watched it many times and I do not get bored and will never get bored. I first watched it 15 years ago on a videotape (when my uncle bought a videotape) and it hooked me as much as a movie can hook a viewer.
Keanu Reeves (Jack)’s performance deserves special praise – he perfectly got used to the role of a police officer who is 100 percent dedicated to his work. And paired with the beauty Sandra Bullock (Annie), a girl by coincidence who was behind the wheel of a multi-ton car, rushing at high speed through huge Los Angeles, sweeping everything in its path, forms a great duet. In other words, as always in Hollywood cinema, love and feelings are at the forefront. Here they are born in an emergency. Everything from the explosion of the elevator "for seed", to the scene in the subway "for dessert" interesting and exciting, dynamic, exciting! This is a real drive!
Dennis Hopper - perfectly played a terrorist - a bomber, according to the plot of a former police officer. He has a resentment of the country, a cheap gold watch for his service, and a bunch of different fuses. And all this he necessarily uses to get the desired $ 3.7 million.
This movie has an excellent sound range, the music accompanies the feelings and emotions of the characters throughout the film. Plus, there’s a great director and cameraman!
Not to mention the movie, emotions are overwhelming! It is better to see once than to read a hundred reviews!
People who say that buses do not jump over a 17-meter dip on the highway, you should not watch, because you are one of those who take cinema too seriously.
With complete confidence and no doubt!
A very famous TV man once said that no one has ever made a film better than Speed. So what does that do? “Speed” is the most beautiful film in the world, and no one can beat its masterpiece and elitism? Hardly. But she still deserves ten points. Here's why. This tape is an example of the most vivid embodiment of almost all elements of classical action; moreover, these elements are very clearly combined with each other. Simply put, “Speed” is the standard of this genre. The plot is an intrigue of the highest class, and the staging is even better (this arrangement occurs, unfortunately, not so often...
Actors are selected with professional excitement. One Dennis Hopper worth what... Now for Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock... A nice and extraordinary couple. You can't confuse them with anyone. The specific features of Keanu Reeves’s face, his role and manner of playing leave an imprint of some mystery on any film work in which he takes part. The same goes for Sandra... The creators of the film “Speed” made a good choice and quite well took advantage of the originality of these actors. This move served as an excellent help in the full disclosure of the scenario mechanisms of the thriller.
In general, the main storyline of this picture is found in many action films. On the screen (and in life) we see terrorists, schizophrenics or ordinary losers hijacking planes, trains, ships. But terrorizing the passengers of a city bus, and even remotely (not personally, but with the help of special devices) is an unprecedented ingenuity. And the main charm of this film story lies directly in the fact that in real life such crimes can not be found day with fire, and today’s bandits act more prosaic methods, unlike the inventive villain of the above blockbuster.
