"Encanto" - anniversary cartoon Disney The sixtieth full-length picture turned out if you take the locations and the plot - a little chamber, The Latin American atmosphere and songs are exciting. Bright tones, dubbing and picture - everything attracts attention. I did not watch the cartoon myself, since I was on a business trip at the time of rental, but my daughter and grandparents - I love the cartoon. I liked it all!I didn’t want it to end. My daughter said the most She liked the animals. All without exception. And of course, the main character is Mirabel, with her airiness and lightness. Dad said that the main idea of the cartoon is about family, about the importance of preserving family values and protecting each other. That's good, that's what I love. I will definitely watch with my daughter so that she guides me to the rhythm of the movie. Review written: February 12, 2022, Olya Grinevskaya (Alenushka).
I watched Encanto a long time ago, but today I decided to review it. Now let’s talk about why this is one of the best Disney cartoons of late.
The Madrigal family lives in an enchanted place called Encanto, hidden in the mountains of Colombia. Every member of this family has a magical gift. And so on the day of receiving the gift, young Mirabel touched the magic doorknob, and the door simply dissolved, leaving her without a gift. But one day Kasita, the home of the Madrigals, begins to crack. And only Mirabel is able to save the house and family magic (both literally and figuratively).
Characters - each of the Madrigal family has its own gift. Grandma Alma is the head of the family, strict but fair. Juliet is Alma's eldest daughter, Augustine's wife and mother of Isabella, Louise and Mirabelle. He can heal with food. Pepa is the youngest daughter of Alma, wife of Felix and mother of Camilo, Dolores and Antonio, aunt of Isabella, Louise and Mirabelle. He can control the weather with his emotions. Augustine is the husband of Juliet and the father of Isabella, Louise and Mirabelle. He does not have a magical gift, but always gets into trouble. Felix is Pep's husband and father Camilo, Dolores and Antonio. He does not have a magical gift, but he is always in a good mood. Camilo is the son of Pepa and brother of Dolores and Antonio, cousin of Isabella, Louise and Mirabel. He can take on the appearance of other people. Dolores is the daughter of Pepa, sister of Camilo and Antonio, cousin of Isabella, Louise and Mirabelle. Antonio is the son of Pepa, brother of Camilo and Dolores. He can understand animals. Isabella is the daughter of Juliet, sister of Louise and Mirabelle. He can make flowers. Louise is the daughter of Juliet, sister of Isabella and Mirabelle. He has superpowers. Mirabelle is the daughter of Juliet, sister of Isabella and Louise. He is not a magician, but he is a magician. Bruno is Uncle Mirabelle. He has a gift to see the future, but because no one liked his predictions, he became an outcast in the family. All the characters are very diverse. Although there are many of them, they all managed to reveal.
Graphics - cartoon is very bright and colorful. The landscapes of Colombia are very beautiful.
There are a lot of songs and they are all memorable. I want to sing them all day. For me, the best is the Madrigal family.
The moral is not to push your family. Love your family as they are, despite their shortcomings. I think this is a very important message, and the cartoon can teach us a lot.
The result is a wonderful cartoon with an interesting plot, bright characters, beautiful graphics, memorable songs and excellent morality. It's a masterpiece. This is one of the best Disney cartoons on a par with “Treasured Wish”. By the way, you knew that Encanto translates from Spanish as Charm. This is how the movie came out.
Amazingly deep and beautiful in every sense of the cartoon.
The main theme of the film is transformation. And at several levels – personal, family and collective. About the transformation we are told by the image of a butterfly, following through the thread through the entire cartoon.
In general, this cartoon is permeated with symbols and archetypes. Another important archetype/symbol is the candle. She is a symbol of magic and guardian of the Rod. It is a symbol of appeal to God, Faith, a request for the most important and hidden.
And in this context, we can view the Candle from the cartoon as a symbol of such an appeal to God with a prayer for protection uttered by the grandmother as they fled from the soldiers. And then it turns out that the magic of the Madrigal family is Faith in the Higher Powers that protect them. It became their strength and strength.
The second meaning of the candle archetype is intimacy and revelation. We light a candle when we are going to go down into the basements of our subconscious mind and be honest with ourselves. And the Candle from the cartoon helped to open each member of the family his gift.
In addition to the Candle is very interesting archetype Hoshito - a living house. Three generations of this family grew up in the Hoshito space, and we can observe some of the trends of that time in all its glory.
First, it is the theme of the female clan, displacing the male or sacrificing the male.
In addition to the exclusion of men in this system, it was customary to serve the Daru. They all had a gift, and they had to. No matter what they owed, the key issue here is debt. Personal needs don't matter - it's important to 'make my family proud'!
And then there is Mirabel - a girl "without a gift" who can just be herself, just Be. But her grandmother clearly disapproves and dislikes her. And Mirabel’s task is to help her and the whole family get out of the scenario of survival and duty into a new life where you can be yourself, you can just be, you can be with the rest of the world, you can get out of protective isolation, you can love and be loved. It is safe to be isolated, but there is no life, there is no love of another person, the joy of a full life, the sounds and smells of pleasure.
It was the embrace, as a symbol of Love and Acceptance, that was to turn this survival, duty machine toward the new Life. And it was Mirabelle who was to become the symbol and the door to this new life, where everyone can be himself as he is. Mirabelle was able to see people as they are, and accept them as real - alive and imperfect.
Mirabel’s ideology is an idea of moving away from the theme of superheroes with superpowers who should save the world and serve people, to the topic of normalization of ordinary people. And giving them the right to do something, to do something. The era of superheroes has passed, the era of ordinary people has come. This is a metaphor for a more open system, designed to be more equal with the world, rather than through narcissistic exclusion.
"You are more than your gift." One of the key phrases of the cartoon. Man is more than his abilities and duties. More important. It is a transition from the ideology of collectivism, which helped people survive in war and post-war times, to the ideology of importance of each member of the system and its interests and needs. From a time when you had to hide your feelings, in an era of sincerity and openness.
This is the way out of PTSD.
From safety to love.
From the paradigm of survival to the concept of living and loving. Mirabelle restored the flow of love to her family system. For themselves, for their family, for the whole society in which they lived.
And we can look at this one person’s journey of transformation and all the events that have occurred as his or her personal journey of healing through healing family trauma. But we can look at it as a way to heal an entire system and even an era that lives by similar rules. And that will be true too.
In addition, in this cartoon, the theme of the legalization of otherness sounds. Just because you're not like everyone else doesn't mean you're worse. If you go your own way, it opens new doors and opportunities.
The archetype of the Door is also interesting here. The door is often used as a symbol of transition, new opportunities. And here, too, that meaning is embodied. But here the meaning of the door to yourself, your gift, your territory is embodied. Behind the door is a whole world, as an image that each person is a whole universe.
And of course, there was a forbidden part of the house in the cartoon, where Mirabel, like Alice in the Looking Glass, meets her fears, overcomes them, passes her trials, getting into the secret rooms of her subconscious and the double standards and rules of her family system.
Mirabelle translates as a beautiful view. But in fact, she knows how to see everyone beautiful. Encanto is an enchanted, enchanted place. And Mirabel, as an enchanted princess, awakened from a magical dream, must awaken the whole kingdom to life.
The gift of Mirabel is Love and Faith. They are the main characters of this film. They begin the story and end it. Magic was created out of love. But then love was replaced by pride and service. And Mirabelle put everything back in place.
It is very strange to read negative reviews on Encanto. This work stands out so much among the stamped Disney stories, passing or simply boring cartoons of recent times that for me it is impossible to leave even a neutral review.
The first plus of the film immediately catches the eye - it is an incredible visual style, bright, colorful, unusual. There are many characters here, but everyone has their own zest - and I'm not only about gifts, but also about appearance, behavior, small details and features. The case when you can depict all the characters in the form of dark silhouettes, and you can unmistakably guess where who.
The animation quality is great. And it's remarkable not only how they animate, but also what they animate. The visual accompaniment of Louise's song is so bold, unusual and... surprisingly accurate. Every word of her song (and, in fact, a cry for help) is accompanied by a clear and creative visualization. And so throughout the film.
Songs are another absolute plus. They are unusual, memorable and, most importantly, 100% meaningful. No extra words, no filler songs to increase timekeeping. Here we are introduced to the exposition, here the sisters in turn reveal their internal problems, here the intrigue around the image of Bruno swirls, from which the viewer, seeing his real, experiences a whole range of feelings. And, of course, the final song, which sums up the whole story and shows that each of the characters learned something (mainly - to accept himself and the people around him).
But picture and music can't pull a movie with a bad script and characters. And Encanto's doing well here, too. The idea is banal: in a family where everyone has a magical gift, a girl is born who has no gift. The viewer immediately understands that she has to discover the gift of figurative, without the participation of real magic. And that's exactly what happens. But how! Throughout the film, I was never bored. One intrigue is replaced by another as soon as something becomes clear from the first. First we wonder what happened to Mirabel, then whether Antonio would receive his gift, then what happens to magic, and so on. No event just happens, it all adds up to a whole story.
As for the meaning of the film... I don’t understand reviews that call it the romanticization of a toxic family or the trivial tale of finding yourself. In my opinion, it's much deeper. Encanto shows a generation’s dream come true: a story in which the older generation acknowledges their mistakes. It’s about how important it is to be sincere with yourself and your loved ones, how important it is to accept each other as you are. Love is not given for the benefit that you bring to people (read, a gift), but simply because you are you. You're a value in your own right!
The second layer of meaning is revealed by the sisters Mirabelle, Isabella and Louise, whose gifts are actually one of the most common problems of the common man in our time. These are the people we admire: strong, able to solve any problem and withstand any circumstances; and ideal, who succeed at everything, and many lose faith in themselves from their social media profiles. The film shows that behind the facade of such success there are problems unknown to observers. No one has a perfect life, no matter how you think from the outside.
This cartoon I consider one of the most valuable works in recent years and with great pleasure review myself and show younger relatives. Viewing will give you a huge amount of pleasure and benefit. It's a thing made with love. 10/10 for everything, including localization.
"Encanto" became one of the most interesting cartoons of Disney
Encanto was directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard, co-directed by Hariz Castro Smith, who co-wrote the script with Bush, and produced by Yvette Merino and Clark Spencer, with original Lin-Manuel Miranda songs.
In a beautiful place lives an unusual family named Madrigal. Each member has magical powers. Almost everyone. Mirabelle is the only person in the house who has no gift. Ironically, it is she who learns that very soon their peaceful life will end, the wonderful house will collapse, and the family will break up. What should she do to avoid this and how to unite her family? Here are the main questions to be answered by the heroine.
The director was perfectly able to convey the beauty of the Latin American people, its customs and nature. The film is based on the culture of Colombia. I can’t help but mention the expressive, bright music and songs, they perfectly complement the feeling of the real story of the characters. The landscapes of Colombia also influenced the decisions of artists. The abundance of flowers on the streets of the city, colors used in the clothes of the heroes, national elements of everyday life and of course family relations characteristic of Colombians help to immerse yourself in the plot in order to most fully feel the history of the cartoon, understand its message. And the moral of the work is this: it's important not only to love something called a family, but also to value all of its members, to respect them and to give them support and understanding as often as possible.
Somewhere in the Mexican woods lives a magical family. And they have a powerful artifact - a magic candle. As it burns, family members wield magical powers and protect their village and its residents from... something (Mexico drug cartels, I guess).
Only the girl Mirabel did not get magical powers. I pinched a nasty candle. I don't know why. Mirabel is experiencing... And then he begins to catch visions of the coming disasters for the house.
In the first 5-10 minutes of the cartoon it becomes clear that the family is quite toxic. Not all of it, of course, just the basics. Lies, hypocrisy, fear are a lousy foundation. Even the candle was overdone, so it began to go out.
Mirabelle has to deal with it somehow. It doesn't work out very well, she's clearly in trouble with her head. And this is understandable - everyone was given super powers, and she was not. It is a shame that the complexes have developed.
For most of the cartoon, the only thing I was ever interested in was why Mirabel was left out. And you know what? It turns out her super-power is... she doesn't have it! Ahha! What a number! Genius, isn't it?!
While some demonstrate the powers of the X-Men, and even a small skeleton rides on a fluffy leopard, Mirabel is a reminder for super people that it is not at all shameful to be an ordinary imperfect person. Thank you so much for this kind of morale. I made the girl happy.
Separately, I will say about the presentation: most of the cartoon characters sing good cheerful songs and cheerfully dance. Who likes it, okay, but I was a little pissed off. The only fun was the performance of the girl on steroids.
Overall, it's not bad. Superficial, sometimes very ambiguous, but kind, and the topic raises a good one.

Increasingly, not light and entertaining projects aimed at children began to appear, but serious and deep work in a motley wrapper. Companies seem to have caught the line between children’s attraction and adult history. The meridian, when children are interested in watching, when there is a bright picture, incendiary and memorable tracks, and characters with personality, as well as an adult who goes to this cartoon, will find something important, perhaps something forgotten, something alive that will remind the soul what it lives for.
And for an adult, it is also an excellent psychological training, because at a subconscious level, watching such work returns to childhood and revives the inner child, acting on the adult psyche in a more subtle way.
And if earlier such works were an isolated case, now they are becoming more and more! And it seems that now it is not children waiting for the release of a new cartoon, but adults!
So, another masterpiece from Disney - "Encanto!"
The Spanish theme has entered the world market, which was demonstrated by the Coco project, and the company decided to implement another project of this style.
For Spain, family ties and family spirit are very important, which we continue to show in this project.
Encanto is a very warm, bright, soulful and deep project filled with magic in all its manifestations.
The story of a family in which a woman, after going through pain and suffering, receives magic to create a safe place for her family and the people who came here.
Where every child born gets his power and magic. Well, almost everyone, except the main character - Mirabel.
This is the uniqueness of each hero. Mirabel through self-acceptance, through the desire to save the family, helps each member of the family to find their happiness and shows that first of all, the warmth and love of loved ones creates magic and turns from an “outcast” into a hero.
And this magic lives in every person, but whether it is with you or not depends only on yourself.
Magic feeds on love and understanding, it is its fuel, and if there is fear, contempt, distrust, loneliness and only sacrifice in the family, then magic will die out.
I don’t want to write a trivial thing, but that’s where it belongs: it’s not the story of a unique person devoid of magical powers, but that’s where it’s unique and in her heart. It is this “flaw” that allows her, in an attempt to save magic, to find the true feelings and desires of her loved ones.
Summing up, I just want to say that this is something that is worth seeing, do not regret 1 hour and 40 minutes of your life, perhaps this is where your soul will find the answers for itself.
The musical, a beautiful Disney animation, the daughter watched with pleasure, the ending a little disappointed happiness can not last forever and vice versa be well very short, as in this fantasy. Five for the best bright work of animators.
In a nutshell: Magical last, magical family. Everyone sings about it or not. But the magic of this small village must be saved and it will be the one that has no magical gift at all.
About the film:
It is funny that the most important member of the family and the most important member of this village, a person with a unique gift, a person who is worthless in any society, decided to make an outcast. I'm talking about Bruno.
With the help of Bruno and his gift, the village can make long-term plans. That is, this Bruno should be on par with the head of the family Alma Madrigal. But what do we see in fact? In fact, both the family, and Alma, and the village can not tolerate him.
Even more amusingly, Alma pushes away another important person, Mirabel Madrigal. She has no gift, but she (unlike the whole village) has brains and uses them.
Behind the mountains, behind the forests, presumably in Colombia, lives a large “magical” family. They are all kind, cheerful and help their neighbors. And they're fine. But one day the family magic began to fade. The investigation takes the only member of the family without superpowers.
Encanto is an amazing cartoon. I’ll even call it unique, which sounds like flattery (and probably not exactly true), but it’s not often seen. Of course, it's all Disney with "songs and good." But strangely, it reminded me of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. When you watch a movie, but you don’t understand anything and you wait for the plot, the movie suddenly ends.
There's a story in Encanto, but it still feels strange. I think it should have been a detective. The main character has a clear goal, but how to achieve it she does not understand. Therefore, the film simply tells the story of the Madrigal family, who received unusual abilities thanks to a magic candle. The main idea of the film is the relationship in the family. Magic fades into the background and “feelings and emotions” come. "Santa Barbara" from Disney.
I was happy with Encanto. “Not thanks, but in spite of it.” There is still a lot of singing and dancing here. Painted as usual well. It is interesting to watch the characters, listen to dialogue and follow the further development of events, although you have no idea where they should develop. I advise you not to ignore this unusual cartoon.
It's a great cartoon with great songs. Raises the problem of waiting for children in a family with a strict leader. The characters are charming too and the animation is very good. The only thing that is poorly shown is the moment of breaking the previous paradigm in the family leader and realizing his mistakes. It just happens here.
I don’t know how to write reviews, but after watching the ambiguous Encanto really wanted to try. Below may be spoilers
The film was advised to watch with the family of the niece, who is sitting in a titok and, after watching several videos about the cartoon, decided to offer to watch all together.
From the point of view of the visual component, you can put a high score of 8/10, but you do not expect less from Disney. Graphics in terms of aesthetics and realism, although not breaking new records, but is at a level.
A very important point to pay attention to is music, since the genre of the cartoon is a musical. Some songs resonate with some "Princessness" & #39; whatever that means. Simply put, typical compositions of the type 'Rapunzel'. Among them, for example, the song Isabel. But there are also some compositions that were pleasantly surprised. The same sensational ' Don't mention Bruno' is memorable because the scene of dances and allegories during the performance of the song is amazing, because you want to hear it again after watching the cartoon and opening this song from a different, extremely gloomy angle. Not because she has a memorable motive. So in this point, the obvious plus is 9/10.
Characters. Each of them is charming in its own way, although not devoid of template archetypes. Someone did not have enough screen time (from this you regret that this is a full meter, and not at least a mini-series), someone was just in the background. But the only drawback is that the family barely talks to each other. It's like everyone's on their own, helping the city. I didn't have enough family warmth. Although, it would seem, a cartoon about the family. 6/10
The huge problem of the cartoon, in my opinion, lies in the message that the cartoon wants to convey. Next up are hard spoilers.
The main idea is to live in friendship with family, in my opinion, completely failed.
What do we have? We have the main character, who became a thorn in the family because of the lack of a magical gift. By the way, it's not her fault, everyone knows it, but she's being deliberately belittled. I'll tell you, it's not a family. But those are flowers, my dear ones. What about his uncle Mirabel, who only a lazy man didn't throw a stone at? And all because of the gift (this did not save from hatred), which, you see, does not like others. And after these humiliations, let’s laugh at the fact that people sometimes don’t understand the oddballs & #39. Great! Bravo! A very nasty message that should not be reinforced in the psyche of children. Also in the end humiliating apologies ' the victim' it is unclear why. 1/10
For children, the above disadvantages are less obvious, but during a family viewing, be prepared to explain to the child that it is wrong to treat anyone derogatoryly because of innate features / abilities. Unfortunately, the cartoon says the opposite.
From the viewing 'Encanto' I remember him on cold rainy evenings and have many unanswered questions: what kind of message he has, why he is so popular and why everyone demands not to mention Bruno, mentioning Bruno. Encanto has a weak plot and a toxic message, and we are ready for this conversation!
Briefly about the advantages: I will share the enthusiasm of the Internet (at least TikTok) about the quality of the picture and detail, there is no doubt, it is really gorgeous. Loved the song 'Don't mention Bruno' That's probably all.
A lot about disadvantages:
1. The plot is crumpled, raw, it all comes down to getting to know the characters, moving from one to another in the process of questioning who Bruno is, meeting him, dinner, destroying and restoring Kasita. When watching the destruction of Kasita, there was only one question: ' Is this almost the end??? It just started. Nothing really happened and #39. There is no effective solution to the problem, no explanation of the behavior of the magic of Kasita. She comes and goes just because she can. And if problems in the family were still, for example, with the departure of Bruno, then why cracks in Kasita appeared here and now, is this the miracle of the scenario for the development of the plot?
2. Strange (toxic) message. The fact is that most people, including in reviews, understand the message extremely superficially. This is a great story about family love for kids. Ha-ha-ha. Let’s face it, we’re encouraged to love a family that hates us. It's a good message for the little ones, isn't it? Mirabelle and Bruno love their family, but their family doesn’t really love them in return. The love of the family and for the most part Alma, as its most important member, the keeper of the house, is focused on those who are useful to her and the village (Louise for her strength, Isabella, who for the sake of her family is ready to marry someone she does not love, etc.).
She treats Mirabel gently bad: she says not to lean out, directly says that she spoils everything; Bruno is also not the object of her special love, moreover, he is not loved by the whole village. Peppa blames him for a spoiled wedding, the priest for his baldness, the villagers for the death of the aquarium fish and obesity. Hell, the whole movie was about how bad it was! The only 'positive' part of the song is performed by Isabella because... He saw a good future for her... In fact, no one wants to accept that they see the future, not create it.
Let us return to the value of the gifts of family members. There will be more than just my thoughts. With Louise and Juliet, everything is clear - strength and healing. Definitely useful to the village. Peppa benefits from her gift, most likely from rain to water the crop, but does weather management seem to be tied to her mood? In the worst case, it should be brought to emotions, from which it can rain. Why is the village so sensitive? Looking for infidels? Why do you want to change?
In this light, Bruno's gift is useless to the village: he simply sees the future, but cannot control it, so it is useless. No control, no use.
As a result, the toxic message is to love a toxic family, where you are loved for usefulness, and if there is no benefit from you, avoid and directly state the uselessness and ability to spoil everything. But you still have to love her, no matter how bad she is.
3. Grades. Why are they so good? Movie weak, message ' strange'. Okay, the picture and the music are good, but it didn't hit anyone's mind that the family here is weird and shuns those who don't fit in. For me, in general, a red flag is that in the first song Mirabel tries to hide from the children who ask her the absence of any gift as if it was something bad and shameful. I feel unity only with bad reviews, because they have at least something specific, and not general reviews like 'Good message, good music, the child liked' That's it.
In November 2021. released the anniversary 60th Disney cartoon - "Encanto". I didn't go to the movies because I was skeptical. I thought the cartoon would certainly be beautiful in terms of animation, but boring in terms of plot. As a result, I am pleasantly disappointed. The film with a Latin American color turned out wonderful.
Animation. The film takes place in Colombia. The cartoon itself is a Latin American project with the same team of creators and voice acting and that explains the local drawing. The fact is that the cartoon is very beautiful and bright. Yes, we are used to the fact that Disney is always a priori famous for its flawless animation and it would seem that for what to praise it? But in Encanto, it’s not just a detailed and beautiful animation of all the characters. The cartoon consists of Latin American dances, clothes, songs, dwellings, jewelry and all this is done perfectly. In the case of Encanto, animation is not just a decoration, it is part of the plot and creates an atypical Colombia for us – beautiful. I think it's important because let's face it, what do we associate Colombia with? Drugs and civil wars! But Encanto also showed that this country is very beautiful and Disney did a good deed. Eh, they would make a similar cartoon about Russia to break our stereotypes.
Music. As I said, the cartoon consists of Latin American, colorful songs in the style of samba, tango, etc. And all the songs here are really cool. They are so colorful that while watching, you want to wear your poncho and sombrero, get castanets and maracas and start dancing samba. Especially good is the opening song of Mirabel about the “Madrigal Family” and the final.
Plot. The action of the cartoon, as I said, takes place in South America, in Colombia. In fact, Disney hasn't addressed the South American theme since the 1940s, when they released propaganda cartoons like "Hello, Friends!", "Three Caballeros" and "Fun and Carefree." It’s nice that instead of another European fairy tale about princesses, Disney decided to remember about other cultures (and maybe everything was influenced by the success of “Coco Mystery”, who knows!).
The film tells us about the village of Encanto, surrounded by mountains. The peace of the village is provided by the Madrigal family, whose members have magical gifts and help ordinary residents. The only one who does not have a magical gift is the main character Mirabelle, who has to put up with it.
The first thing I want to praise the movie is that it is very interesting. I already told you about songs and color. Through Mirabel, the whole Madrigal family is revealed to us, and we have been able to reveal each of them, at the expense of their abilities. All family members are interesting and each with its own twist.
For example, Mirabelle’s mother is Juliet, who can cure all diseases with cookies. I wonder why she can’t fix her eyesight.
Isabela is a selfish fairy of flowers pretending to be a lady. I liked her room in the form of a huge garden with petals and a bed. This is where Milen Farmer shot her music video for the song "Appelle mon numero"!
Alma is the grandmother and matriarch of the family. She's a controversial person. It seems to care about the family, but it manifests itself in the form of hyperactive care, turning into a dictatorship.
But I especially liked Dolores – a girl with superhearing, who is silent and speaks so quietly that she could record ASMR videos. But she's so cute, so beautiful, and she talks so beautifully that even though she's not on screen, she's the one who's most enticing.
And of course, the Mirabel is the first Disney heroine who wears glasses. And she reminds the hell of Moana! Seriously, I'm the only one who noticed that Mirabelle is like a Moana wearing glasses. When I first saw the poster, I thought Encanto was a sequel to Moana.
Mirabelle as a character is very interesting. She's the only one who doesn't have superpowers, and because of that, the rest of the family doesn't smack her, of course, but treats her as a disappointment and considers her a bad sign. But Mirabel herself keeps positive and tries to help the family with all her strength, and does not make cries in the style of “Why do I live?”
But it'll come in handy soon. After all, it turns out that the family idyll Madrigal is only a screen. The family is gradually losing its magic and Mirabel is trying to figure out why. And in this regard, the cartoon is interesting and exciting.
There is a drama about the fact that dictatorship over a family does not mean love for it, it is only a dictatorship. To be honest, the level of drama in the cartoon, of course, does not reach the drama “Coco Mystery”, but here the morality is more correct. The eternal theme of family values, only if it was usually shown that family is more important than all work, then Encanto shows that excessive love is also bad. You should sometimes ask family members what they want.
Conclusion: "Encanto" is an extremely good Disney cartoon. He's fun, exciting, musical. Without that stupid agenda. He has a good moral that loving a family means listening to it and listening to what they want. I think with Encanto, Disney regained their right (after a bunch of remakes) to say that they create ideas. Hopefully in the third decade of the XXI century. Disney will continue to delight us.
Madrigal is an extraordinary family that long ago settled in the quiet magical place of Encanto. This place nourishes the family with its strength, because everyone here has his own special gift. This very ancient and magical power is passed down from generation to generation, but sometimes mistakes happen. And in our case, this mistake was Mirabel, who is completely devoid of all magical abilities. Of course, she is hurtful and sad, but in the family she is loved as well as the rest. But to really call Mirabel a mistake is certainly impossible. This girl has the most important – a brave, hot heart and a determined soul. That is why, when inexplicable things begin to happen in Encanto, it is Mirabel who takes up the rescue of his family, and not other members of the Madrigal family who are confused, desperate, losing their former strength. The brave girl has nothing to lose, so she is not afraid to face the dangers and secrets of magic. Ahead, the unknown, the dangers, but necessarily a good end!
You know, the cartoon surprised me with its very essence. Here's how it is: among ordinary people there are those who have unusual abilities, with whom something strange happens, who get into unusual life circumstances. And here everything is exactly the opposite: among absolutely unusual, special, magical people there is a girl who is completely ordinary and even ordinary. But in this cartoon, this is the feature of the main character. And it's very cool that it's really catchy. What fascinates is not the charming abilities of other characters, but such, at first glance, “usuality” and simplicity. And even Mirabelle’s attitude, her acceptance of herself and the ability to enjoy everything around her is admirable. And also sincerely hooked the house of Kasida, who was himself a separate character and even expressed his emotions (and sometimes even gave advice).
As always, our voice is the coolest. I often watch foreign films in English, but this does not reach the artistry of their voices to ours. It's a blast. All the voices and intonations are chosen so skillfully that, man, you look and you forget even that, in fact, it is just a cartoon drawn. Well, the musical accompaniment of Disney cartoons is always on top, so it is not surprising that the music itself is also fascinating and very suitable for those moments that it emphasizes.
In general, the atmosphere itself is incredibly fascinating, inspiring, childishly magical. In some places there were even cool jokes and hamstrings, so you can laugh here. But the touching, general depth of the cartoons is not at all devoid of.
In short, Encanto is a really worthwhile cartoon. It immerses in its special magical atmosphere, makes you feel the whole story. This is one of those cartoons that catch to the core and make you think about it for a long time, and then review a bunch of times. That's great.

Mirabelle is an ordinary girl, but this is unusual for the family she lives in. After all, all members of the Madrigal family have some special, magical abilities: someone understands animals, someone knows how to heal, and someone has incredible physical strength. Mirabel everyone loves and protects, no one considers her to be something different, but she herself feels the condescending attitude of relatives, so she still can not feel full. But then something terrible happens: in their quiet place Encanto, an anomaly happens - and the strength of the whole family is under threat. Madrigali begin to weaken one by one, the family house as if under the influence of external force begins to collapse. And now, with everyone in despair and fear for the future, Mirabelle decides that now is her time. Now she, not afraid to lose her strength, will save the strength of all relatives.
This is one of those cartoons that causes such sincere emotions as not every film can. Incredibly charismatic characters conquer the heart from the very beginning, because they are all so special, with their advantages and disadvantages, strengths and weaknesses. In fact, each of the members of the Madrigal family remembered something of their own, there were directly impressive moments with each. But especially in the soul of a boy who understood animals – it was very nice. The story itself, as always in such cartoons, was impressive, intriguing. Of course, it was clear that everything would end well, but it was interesting how exactly it developed. Such a brave and brave Mirabel, in fact like a real person, like some girl from school - such a realistic image, just won the heart. And I speak for myself. I don’t know what emotions children feel when watching a cartoon. I think there are a lot of heroes to fall in love with. And in general, you do not remain indifferent to anyone. Each of them causes some emotions - and damn, it's cool.
I want to pay special attention to animation. In general, nothing of low quality can be expected from Disney, but this cartoon was especially striking with its brightness. For better perception, in order to be imbued with the plot and problems, all these details are very important. Well, for example, the crazy-class hairstyle Mirabelle, the sweetest house Kasida with all sorts of cozy little things and even just charming animals. In general, for me personally, all these little things, which do not seem to affect the plot, greatly affect my perception, how much I penetrate everything that happens.
The cartoon is really worth it. Well, I don't know, I was attracted to it by the poster itself, and finally got online and was able to watch it. The plot, characters and their relationships turned out to be as rich and vivid as the “wrapper”, that is, the appearance. Definitely now it will be one of my favorite cartoons on par with Rapunzel and Coco. In recent years, not even a new film has been more pleased than the wonderful Encanto.

Immediately I want to note that this cartoon, like all musical films and cartoons, should be viewed in the original language.
The main feature of the cartoon is, of course, music. In some classical Latin American motifs, somewhat arranged from them. One way or another, familiar, but no less sonorous.
The plot is relatively predictable, as in any product for the mass consumer. Well, there's nothing you can do. If you want something unusual, look for garbage... oh, that is, in an art house. For animation, as usual at Disney, no complaints.
The main idea of the cartoon is also not new, which is typical for Disney - family problems. The whole family belongs in the psychotherapist's chair, especially the matriarch grandmother. The whole cartoon, in general, is a short version of psychotherapy, at least its first stage.
What else did you like? The story of the grandmother, which is shown not as a typical strict matriarch, who does not care about everything, shows a living person whose deformation is not an innate trait of character, but simply a consequence of an undeveloped trauma. It’s like, “Forgive your parents, they’re the way they are because they were tougher than you.” It's a good idea.
I don’t like one point I want to dwell on, there’s a slightly unhealthy metaphor. One of the main songs, Dos Oruguias, is an allegory of the classic hero myth. The first stage is oruga (caterpillar), then crisalida (puppet) and mariposa (butterfly). The song tells us about the stages of growing up and separation from the family, but at the same time the picture sends the opposite meaning - at the end of the song, when the word mariposa, i.e. the last stage of separation, we see a granddaughter who clings to her grandmother. Well, where's the transformation? Where's the separation? From the point of view of the classical (and, I think, healthy) myth, the heroine must separate from the family and find her place outside her, in the world, and here we are propagated the idea - "Don't leave the family, do not enter a new stage of life, always remain a pretty granddaughter to gray hair." For me, the message is not very good, especially for children. In the classical myth, the hero enters into battle with an unpredictable danger outside, trials make her a new personality, more adult, growing up. Our heroine did not go anywhere, as well as her whole family – they are sitting in their enclave, closed off from the whole world. The idea of the cartoon was to end with the family going beyond their refuge in the mountains, each family member finds his place in the world and uses his talents not only for the benefit of himself and his circle, but the whole world. There is nothing like that here – as they sat in isolation from the whole world and quietly went mad, and sit.
What is family trauma, the grass of generations? What should I do about it?
Encanto is a colorful cartoon with non-childish questions.
The main character is ordinary among the special. Hello to the CODA Oscar winner. But in this picture, family members have no problem communicating with other people. There are problems within the family. When you are special, you have a responsibility. And when your family expects more from you, there's a sense of hyperresponsibility.
The fear of not being able to cope, not living up to expectations. And feel guilty about it, although sometimes everyone needs to rest, let go.
The main character - Mirabel as if from childhood has not met the expectations of the whole family - grandmother. It was my grandmother who first gained strength and ruled everything. She's the only one who knows. But who does? Family? Hello? Or her desire to prove to everyone else that all family members are successful? So what does Mirabelle do when you stand out in families not for the better? Like Bruno, who is not talked about.
Bruno is her uncle, and he has power. But everything has two sides. And its power is to predict the future. Unfortunately, the future is not always happy or unambiguous. And, of course, Grandma didn't like that her son was afraid. He predicted everything, sometimes not positively. The failure to recognize a man as he was led to his uncle disappearing. Asking why or talking about it is forbidden. Which, accordingly, because of the prohibitions, gives rise to even greater mysteries.
The head of the family suffered a terrible loss in the past, her house was destroyed and a loved one was killed. And that fear of losing her home is with her again forever. She wants to protect not only her family but also the village. But sometimes you have to open up, talk. And understand that everything cannot be perfect and should not be.
A man, no matter what power he possesses, or whether he possesses at all, must be accepted as he is.
All heroes have different powers. That's really cool. The gift characterizes man. His or her character. It's intertwined in the plot. The story itself is suitable for adults and children.
Disney animation is top. I liked that it was not naturalistic. Like hand-drawn. Each character is also thought out in its design. Clothes, facial expressions. And the action takes place in Colombia, which I want to note separately. The studio began traveling to South America. I'm impressed. National dresses.
Music. A couple of songs were added to the playlist, in addition to the well-known "We Don't Talk About Bruno". You will definitely listen after the movie.
I was waiting for this cartoon. He's family, kind. To some extent classic, but in its entourage.
A little more than an hour and a half you will find yourself in a remote village, among good-natured people. And you'll smile.
A sensational cartoon about problems in the family and identification of their purpose
I watched the movie with my niece. I generally love those animations where the plot has two sides and is equally clear to both the smallest and the largest, because frankly, the topic in Encanto is quite sensitive, especially when viewed from the point of view of an adult.
If you go through the main characteristics, then everything is perfect here, as well as the entire cartoon as a whole. Music that will haunt you for a very long time will be “two meters tall, rats on your back...” and “I am from the Madrigal family...” The songs were actually quite memorable. Some more, some less, but listening to them is pleasant and even if they get stuck in your head, then there is at least an interesting text.
The beginning of the cartoon is as positive as possible. There is a family, everyone has a magical gift, except Mirabelle, but she does not seem to suffer from this at all - this impression is formed in the first minutes of viewing. The girl is proud to be a part of the Madrigal family and does not care much about the lack of a distinctive feature inherent in all other family members. Of course, as soon as the plot dives deeper, everything turns out to be a little more sad. And here are already raised very serious questions that will pass by the little spectators, but they will be noticed by older people, including teenagers.
It's a story about what it's like to be "not like that." And it's shown in a very interesting way, because you're not like that, because you're ordinary against unusual backgrounds. In reality, as a rule, you are not like that against the background of ordinary people, against the background of those who are pleasant to consider the standard. These are the problems of the modern world.
In general, one can delve into the history of the Madrigal family and in the relations between family members endlessly. Personally, I am infinitely sorry that very little attention was paid to Camilo. I'm pretty sure he has a lot of trouble identifying himself. When your talent from early childhood is to reincarnate in others, an important question arises: who are you? You can write a whole article about it.
Many questions to the head of the family Grandma Abuele, who in general is the guardian of magic and it is for her that everyone goes against their desires to please her. Everything, except for the naturally main character Mirabel, although she at the very beginning tries to fit her ordinariness into the extraordinary circle of the family, but malfunctions remains “outside”. Grandma personally gives me the impression of a very cynical person and even the ending does not reanimate much in my eyes. It is unlikely that anything would have changed in her attitude towards Mirabel if what happened had not happened.
Otherwise, all the characters are endlessly charismatic and I would love to watch a separate film or series about each one. I highly recommend watching this movie regardless of age. There is a lot to think about and even take patterns of behavior that you should not follow if you have authority and raise children or adolescents. It is worth remembering that each person is unique. And just because he doesn't look like you doesn't mean he's worse.
It was strange to watch all these dances, references to love for his family, when clearly without magic the main character was an outcast, grandmother - a hard despot and in general a lot of problems - it is directly vital from the other side. It didn't catch on.
It is difficult to evaluate a cartoon in which the characters, clothes, surroundings are a tracing from many other cartoons. Fans of cartoons will see the tracing with Mother Gothel, and with the characters from Ratatouille, and with half of the characters Rapunzel, and almost identical colors and environment from Coco. If you look at it, you can see a lot more.
Yes, Disney used templates and tracings in his classic period, but not as obvious! In recent years, cartoons have turned into a plotless mess with meaningless music and it is terrible. It feels like Disney has a plan to make cartoons, and the quality doesn’t matter. Just churning out a void without thinking about the plot and characters. Characters are cardboard, their identities are not disclosed, their fate is not interesting to anyone.
After watching, it's just a pity of time wasted. And no, age has nothing to do with it. When we were kids watching Disney classics, we memorized songs, followed the plot with passion, learned to love, empathize and had something to discuss or even play back after watching. We revisited cartoons not because of caustic flashing colors, but because they had something more than a beautiful wrapper.
In Encanto’s film, even the phantom failed, as it is like a Frankenstein monster sewn from what we have already seen.
'Strong' Louise is a child in a family to whom parents carry an exorbitant burden of responsibility. This is usually the case with an older child when a second child comes into the family. Wanting to please the parents, the older child can not refuse them to perform some new duties, but this burden is often not for the children's shoulders, which parents do not think about.
Aunt Pep, whose mood ' depends on the weather' is a child who should always be comfortable, always in good ' sunny' mood and not spoil the mood (weather) of others. From this his ' joy' and good mood become artificial, and other emotions are suppressed.
' Perfect' Isabelle is a child who always has to be good and right, perfect for everyone, but no one cares about who he is.
Bruno, who in the family ' nobody talks about ' this is a child - an outcast, the one in whom the rest of the family sees the reasons for their failures (in fact, not at all related to the child) and on whom they take out their dissatisfaction. Such a child closes in himself, actually leaves the family.
The head of the family, grandmother Alma, is ' a parent' who found himself in a difficult situation without help and himself as a lost child, but tries to somehow maintain the balance and well-being of the family, forgetting what this balance is for and what well-being really is.
Mirabel is the only child who is not subject to the methods ('magic'), which adults sometimes try ' to regulate' family, and, therefore, he can look at everything happening with a look ' from the side ' and openly talk about what is happening.
Villa, the family is cracking. 'Strong' Louise, under the exorbitant weight of responsibility and duties, feels that she can no longer cope, that her strength is not enough. Isabelle looks like a beautiful doll, following the instructions of her elders, but does not live her own life and does not know herself. Bruno in ' family' long lost - he seems to be ' in the house', but he is not. Seniors see problems but don’t know what to do. Grandma is trying to fix everything, even more ' putting things in order', tightening the screws, but this only more collapses and only one person - the one who can look at everything from the outside, can save the situation.
An amazing film, technically complex and beautiful, which, unfortunately, will be fully understood only by those adults and children who are familiar with the described situations or have thought about them. I really liked the way the authors understand the presented topics in a very soft, kind and positive way, without pressure and edification. The film does not burden the psyche at all, but, on the contrary, seeks to straighten and untie some knots of relationships.
The technical implementation is remarkable. Each frame is carefully worked out and verified, contains a large number of details and pleases the eye. Sound, music and songs are a separate pleasure.
Russian dubbing slightly does not fully convey the mood of the characters of the film in comparison with the original. For example, in the song ' Strong' Louise in the original in her voice is felt not only ' the determination not to let the family down' but also crying at the fact that she feels that she can not cope. In the song Isabel in the original felt alive and pressing question ' Who am I?' which is lost in dubbing. In the song ' We're not talking about Bruno' the original has notes of the irrationality of this attitude towards Bruno, which also got lost in dubbing. But, in general, the translation and dubbing of the film goes well.
I would recommend this film to those who want to make an unusual trip. There will be no chase, shootouts and villains, but it will make you experience no less vivid feelings and emotions.
It is interesting how the authors allegorically conveyed other aspects of the examined family relationships.
Villa and surrounding mountains is a family that should be beautiful, interesting, protected, caring and kind to everyone.
Grandma's room in this house is something above everyone, not open to everyone else.
The room of the beautiful Isabelle is ' the perfect prison' in which everything is good and beautiful, clean and clean, toys stand in straight rows, the curtains are always clean and ironed, but all this - ' stranger' for her room.
Room of the outcast Bruno is a cold, hard, rough, uncomfortable world for him with a broken ladder to his place in the family.
Rooms 'Strong' We don't even see Louise, her door is always closed because she never talks about her feelings or her difficulties.
Only Mirabel’s room looks like a real room of a living child, but she is lonely in such a family.
Other family members:
'All-Hearing' but silent, Dolores is a child who is always aware of everything that is happening, but does not know how to change something and does not feel the strength to do it, so he lives his life detached and looks like a person '
Camilo, who constantly changes his face, is a child who adapts to everyone. He seems to be friendly with everyone, but how close is this friendship?
Juliet, mother Mirabelle, is one of the elders who does not influence the situation, but can with his kind attitude ' heal' wounds.
Agustin, Papa Mirabel, is someone from the elders who does not have weight and the right to vote, but because of the kindness of heart takes blows on himself.
Felix, Pep’s husband, is a family member who tries to support others with humor and a simple attitude.
Events outside the window leave only one desire - to hide where the news of the outside world will not get. Such asylum is provided by the cartoon of Jared Bush, Byron Howard, Chariz Castro Smith “Encanto”, nominated this year for “Oscar”.
The action takes place in mountainous Colombia, in the center of the plot is the Madrigal family, whose matriarch, fleeing the civil war, found a paradise cut off by mountains. She and all her offspring were given the magic to help the villagers. Gifts range from prophecy and healing to physical superpowers and understanding animal language. Each child gets his own, and only Mirabel – one of the granddaughters of Alba, gets nothing.
On the surface of the Encanto concept lies the trivial, but always relevant idea that happiness comes to everyone in its own time, and if yours is delayed somewhere, it does not negate your uniqueness. In fact, the semantic structure of the cartoon is much more complicated and much in it is hidden in subtext.
The first thing that is surprising here is the choice of the cultural location in which the film takes place: Colombia is a country rich in traditions, but not the most popular among filmmakers in the United States, so such a complementary view of it certainly expands the boundaries of modern cinema, as “The Mystery of Coco” (Mexico) and “Moana” (Polynesia) did. An unusual look concerns the images of the main characters - they are all different and brightly individual, their beauty is not in proportions, but in this dissimilarity.
However, the phenomenality of Encanto is not at all in cultural exoticism, but in the fact that the fairy tale plot contains many topical problems, primarily psychological, about which serious research has already written: pressure and depreciation, shaming and, finally, intergenerational trauma and escapism. Each of the Madrigal family bears an echo of the events that deprived Alba of her husband and her children of her father. And the fact that in this case the traumatic experience gives strength and helps to grow does not negate the fact that the trauma (both literally and metaphorically) requires treatment.
Therefore, the film of Bush, Howard and Smith can be an important experience for any viewer who will find in it answers to questions that concern him personally and society as a whole. This layer of semantic load is designed, of course, for an adult, but for a child this story will be no less impressive and exciting. There is no familiar plot scheme about the opposition of good and evil, there are no obvious antagonists, and this simple external ambiguity is a perfect example of the complexity of life, in which everyone has their own truth even in a family where everyone loves each other sincerely and truly.
The strength of the family is the brightest and most weighty semantic center of Encanto, because only in the unity of dissimilarities harmony, perseverance and the ability to protect yourself with love from any life adversity are found. Therefore, the words about the family as a “miracle magical festival” from the opening song do not seem an exaggeration and do not even look like a metaphor. That's the truth of life.
A collection of colorful clips in the intervals between the banal story
Not every feature-length animated film I expect a well-developed plot and Pixar emotions, and even more so, I am ready for songs when it comes to a full meter from the internal Disney studio. But this case, when the simplest plot coupled with too many songs, made this film unbearably boring.
Each song logically should reveal the inner world of the character who sings it, but in fact it is a set of clips, where the main bet is made on the visual, and the text is gazed so quickly that you do not have time to realize what the song is about.
Can the story help to easily endure the musical component? Well, let's reason logically - if the plot coped itself, you would not need to occupy half the timekeeping with something else.
However, as I said above, I do not expect a masterpiece from each cartoon and I quite fit something simple and frankly childish, like '. The beginning & #39; but there is no plot at all.
This is a short parable about the classic confrontation between 'should' and 'I want' that I would tell a child before going to bed in 15 minutes and I wouldn’t even need the tortured main character, who objectively did not affect the story.
I would appreciate the project neutrally at least for the colorful visual, but honestly to say sorry wasted time.
The only thing that made me feel like this movie was the amount of time I spent. It was like buying a beautiful cake and it was ruined.
Many people praise the cartoon for good music, beautiful graphics and so on, but this is all scenery, and in terms of the plot everything is deplorable. I don’t know much about filmmaking, but I have a couple of versions of why it turned out so poorly:
(a) It took too much time to work out the concept, and there was no time left to write a clear script;
(b) The studio tries to sit on all chairs at once and capture as many themes as possible, as a result remaining with nothing.
The cartoon seems to have some morality, but it crumbles and in the end it is impossible to understand what the authors wanted to say. History is structureless and everything that happens happens happens without any preconditions. Why did this happen to Mirabelle? Why does she think Grandma is mean? What is considered for 'doing for the good of the family '? What happened to Mirabelle at the end? What did Grandma understand? And so on.
I can't turn my tongue to call it at least ' passerman' because ' passersby' Disney is taller than Encanto. If the story according to the template ' Ways of the Hero' (heroines) with overpower and adventure, it would be banal, but the story would look complete.
Another disadvantage is the declared ethnic bias. I love Latin American aesthetics, but I hate it when authors who take on cartoons like this do not go beyond that aesthetic. Here in one review mentioned ' The Mystery of Coco' so there Mexican culture is the basis of history, without which the plot would not work. Local Columbia is just scenery, entourage, and the characters are a collection of stereotypes about Latin Americans living in large families with a matriarch at the head. And it would be nice if there was some fantasy country ' a la Colombia' (dreams, by the way, did so in ' Cat in Boots' but there it was part of the banter over cinematic stereotypes about Spain/Mexico). But no, the authors just refer the story to the real people with their own problems, and the output turns out to be some awkward lubric.
No grade.
