Japanese horror films have long been defined as a separate subgenre. A lot of this is the fault of Hollywood, which follows its American classics: vampire, monster, monster - three pillars of American horror, everything else is a subtype, subgenre and so on. But in this smooth and slender as a starlet view of horror films forever will not fit his Majesty the Ghost.
Ghosts is so ' European' it was considered a cliché even before the very first film was made. And then in the 90s, the Japanese presented their vision of ghosts, which was equally refreshing for both Europeans and popcorn lovers.
The first call became a cult, with all the ensuing consequences - parody, jokes, farce, it's not just a horror story, it's part of pop culture. Therefore, to remove a worthy sequel is a super-task, and even just worthy - this is also not a video blog.
The second part gave way to the first in all articles, and it seemed that everything, put aside, forget, put on the same shelf with Freddie, the Beast of Frankestein, we will wait for a remake (for a remake) of years like this in fifteen. but the thirst for profit on the name of the not yet extinct brand did not give rest to some filmmakers.
And now, in the yard already 2017, take off calls. And it's very bad. The film is trying to be serious, it doesn’t work out, it’s hard to look at the girl. who has repeatedly been mocked by memes from the series ' long-haired brunettes are amazing' Johnny Galecki, in his role as a professor, pushes the perception from the serious even further, even though he tried very hard.
Modern technology also drank the blood of the film, because there are no cassettes, and the video is available from all kinds of clouds. The director does not cope with this, as a result, you can safely remove this movie opus from the horror genre.
Sometimes you can forgive horror movies that scare you badly by getting some compensation, whether it’s a powerful visual, a good detective story or characters you manage to love during the film. But there's nothing in Calls. Like a horror film is a dummy, but there is simply nothing behind this horror film.

In general, the picture was not bad, but not as a horror film. Attempts to scare the viewer, in my opinion, are quite banal, not interesting and predictable. There is no support for a gloomy atmosphere, unlike the previous parts, which was very disappointing.
The first half of the film is also pretty boring, and it seems that there is nothing at all to do with the two parts shot earlier, except the idea of a scary video that kills. But the second part of the film all sharply turns to the other, and most importantly interesting, side. The plot shows the continuation of the life story of the girl Samara. New puzzles appear in the film, which interestingly and beautifully fit into the already known picture.
I recommend watching everyone who is interested in the history of the existence of Samara, but not the fact that this horror will be able to tickle your nerves quite well.

For a long time, after watching the first two parts of The Call, I dreamed of continuing this really scary, and most importantly interesting in terms of the plot of the film. Years passed, and apart from vague hints on the Internet, I did not see anything. And finally, twelve years later, the third part of this great story came out unexpectedly. After looking at a negligible rating and a bunch of negative reviews, I went to see the film without any enthusiasm. But what I saw and pushed me to the first review of my life. Here we go.
This is my personal opinion, which you do not have to agree with. I think this film deserves a good rating because in the last couple of years, I haven’t seen any more interesting films in this genre. He liked me because my expectations coincided with reality and I saw what I expected from him in terms of the plot. “Calls” is not a perfect, but quite worthy continuation of the first two of its predecessors, as it quite accurately explains some of the questions that remained after the first two parts. For example, we learned about the story of Samara’s real parents and why she became the way everyone knows her. Another plus I want to include the fact that F. Javier Gutierrez was not afraid to remove the original version of the sequel, and not some remake or parody.
I am absolutely sure that many people went to this film without watching the first two parts, with which they did not understand anything and called the movie a slag. So please, before you go to it, find the strength to see the first two films, because not everyone is a fan of “Rings”, and going to it without any understanding of what it is – useless. “Calls” is not just there: “I looked at the tape, the phone rang, seven days later I dropped skates.” NO!! First of all, this is a terrible story about a little girl, which you need to understand and delve into, really worrying about the heroes. It’s not just a horror story.
Many people say: 'Here, like, not scary, etc.'. Few sharp and frightening moments like that. But remember one such moment in the first two Calls, where Samara jumped out of the corner with some squeal and a skewed face, and everyone fell from their chairs. This simply did not happen, as the film takes its atmosphere and, again, the plot. Yes, I agree with many that the atmosphere in the third part was not at the height, and in some places there was no atmosphere at all. Because of this, you can reduce two or three points. The play of the characters was also not really super, some painfully brave was the main character, although everyone is used to this, American women in the cinema almost everything is like a flint, with stone faces look in the face of danger. And as I mentioned, the plot is exactly the way I imagined it, which makes it quite expected.
My conclusion is that the film is suitable for those who are not chasing screams in the cinema, who do not care about hiding their face in the dark screen, and of course those who are really interested in the story of Samara and her life after death. I recommend to all connoisseurs of The Call, because it is a crime for fans of this film, even if it seems uninteresting to you. Personally, I was quite interested to know what would happen next. I did not fall asleep while watching, and laughing (as is often the case in some horror films) I did not get through. Just remember that many, when there were the first two parts, was ten years old, and now, having become more mature, especially after the releases of many valuable films, you will find it not so terrible, and to fear a mirror with the TV turned off at twenty years old is somehow ridiculous.
Thank you for listening!
I did not expect any revelations from the next sequel to the American series of “Bells”, because I was disappointed in the American “Calls”, which finally translated the plot about Samara (Sadako in the American way) into the mainstream of horror films, when as a literary primary source was a psychological thriller with quite powerful sequels that included arguments about the lives and creators of people (gods, in fact).
The film is predictable - before half the viewing it becomes clear how it will end, and only waiting for the ending to confirm your unexpected, albeit logical, guess. Scare the audience with banal techniques - unexpected appearances of something in the frame or sharp sounds. These techniques are effective and successfully used in many horror films, but for the horror film series, which some call almost the best horror, such approaches are at least cheap, and in general – strange and inappropriate.
The plot of the film itself cannot be called exciting, and for fans of canons, among which I myself, what happens in the film at all looks absurd. According to the canon, Samara appeared exactly 7 days later and killed the victim with her eyes, who dared, albeit out of ignorance, to look at a clear-cut tape. But to avoid the curse of the cassette could be forever, passing the virus to another – copying the cassette and giving to see your copy to another person, with this increased the total circulation of the cassettes. What do we have now? Samara removes from her path all the people who may interfere with her goals, whether they watched the tape or have already escaped the curse some time ago.
Why all these changes in the canon is clear. On one concept about watching a video cassette, you can not shoot many films, people will quickly get tired of their uniformity. On the other hand, I am still offended that the Americans do not want to transfer “Spiral” and “Loop” to the big screens – the continuation of the novel “The Call”. They were more interesting, although the concept of fear in them faded into the background.
To sum up, “Calls” can be seen, but the question is – do I need to?

It’s not like a sequel or a spin-off, it’s more like a movie based on a movie. The same tape with the video, after watching which you have seven days to live. But then the Japanese idea is taken as a basis that the curse can be passed down the chain to another, giving him to watch this very tape.
And the paradox is that the film is stuffed with much more than that, but still, for the most part, it was tedious, from which it was leaning into sleep. But when there were action scenes, the dream, as a hand removed, it was a pity, it was very rare. At first, events were shown that you can not connect in any way, but when you dot all the dots on it and it will still seem that it was all meaningless. Very beautiful though. Speaking of beauty. For horror movies 'Calls' look very high-quality, which can not be ignored. But let’s say in one particular case, when Samara (a girl from the TV) left corpses behind her, then in the first parts of the characters were made up qualitatively, and now they were replaced with not quite successful computer graphics.
The plot is stuffed with events. The girl escorted the guy to college, he's about to arrive, he disappears, she's looking for him. Then it turns out that there is some cult that ' kills' from the damn video. Then the viewer again learns the story of the origin of the girl from the well. And by the way, there will be a slight resemblance to the film 'Don't Breathe', which was pretty funny to some extent.
The actors turned out to be pretty good. But I would like to mention Vincent D'Onofrio. He played a blind man with whom the storyline will be related. But his play was convincing and frightening. Operator work and work with special effects at a good level. The only thing is an overabundance of events that did not help the film to become number one in the list of ' Call' franchise.
I went to the session for curiosity. I didn’t think I’d like the movie, the trailer didn’t impress me. But as a fan of the first part, I considered it my duty to watch a fresh triquel.
The first thing that caught the eye was that the film was shot not by the film company Dream Works, which is already familiar to the “Ring”, but by Paramount. And it left its mark: the atmosphere of the picture was completely different, new and unusual. And the complete change of acting heroes is not the main reason for this. But the film did not spoil, on the contrary, the novelty brought it to a new level.
A little background story about the plane incident at the beginning of the film didn’t really impress me, even heightened the expectation of disappointment. Then, when the time of the action was transferred to the present, the following “blow” followed: an optimistic atmosphere, romantic scenes and cheerful music, which in the first two parts were not found at all. But, fortunately, it did not last long and the atmosphere soon changed to more suitable for horror, there was tension and interest. The plot turned just incredible, in the story with Samara and her message on the tape there was a steep turn. If it were another part about the next victims, it would be boring. But this turn became a fundamental innovation that “regenerated” the usual “Call” into something completely unknown until now. You can’t call a predictable movie. But the implementation of the new idea was not without shortcomings. The new story had a gross inconsistency with the prequel. It left a little sediment.
In general, the film was interesting and scary, not to be bored. I can even say that it surpassed most of the horrors that have come out in the last few years. Although little reminds him of his belonging to the trilogy, but in a sense it is even a plus. And these echoes of the past parts caused a sense of nostalgia. The acting is quite tolerable, the emotions looked natural, no one overplayed, the dull game also did not notice.
The film exceeded all my expectations, left a pleasant impression and surprised.
I would not compare with the first part, it is easier to perceive the novelty as a separate unit with echoes of the first two parts.
I would definitely recommend it.
I didn’t think that it would happen, but in a literal sense in the trailer we were shown absolutely all the cool moments that are present... the most fatal mistake of course with ' rebirth'.
From the trailers, you could see that the film was really fresh with a lot of cool new ideas. I expected that we will see more information about the life of Samara (by chains for example), a kind of & #39; Call 0' but in the guise of a sequel.
Now Evelyn's on the line, spoiling her story, no controversy. I believe that in order to influence such a plot deepening, it is necessary to at least discuss this with our great American screenwriter, I do not deny it, perhaps with the same Hideo Nakata (who created Japanese sane films no worse). It is normal to get together, it is reasonable to discuss and extend her line, and not to take it is not clear who the writers are and it is unclear what idiotic plots to invent ... and this despite the fact that they still took the director with 1 film, was it reasonable to do this?!
They picked up (it's not clear what the hell), a father who looks like Morgan, wove a story that he raped (it's not even clear why, he's a certain priest), and i.e. the reason that Samara was possessed - it happened in the church? It doesn’t add to this girl’s life drama (as I would like), on the contrary, as if it was her fate from the very beginning ... and it’s not as cool as it seemed in 1 film!
I wish Evelyn really had a loving husband (and to make it look like Anna's fate), that strange things would happen in his life (and he was the one responsible for what he caused), and then he dies when she's pregnant... and she goes to an orphanage. And then, knowing the ghosts that the world was born part of it, decide to end it ... and then it turns out that Evelyn did not hear the voice of Samara, but the voices of ghosts - who tell her to do it. . .
And then, when Samara is already growing up - instead of the place of her death, they completely decide to take possession of her and order to hurt people ... here I understand dramatically ... and really would be sorry for Samar. And the new Evelen that we were shown, in no way even similar to 2 movies!!
The movie is half boring! Some of Julia’s visions are nothing at all, the other half of the scenes that are a film we have already watched everywhere, and everything else is useless boring babbling (word & #39; make a copy & #39; – was uttered 3 times).
And I don’t like when the main plot unfolds immediately from the beginning, in the first Rachel gradually reached the cassette, in the second Samara gradually approached Aidan.
For me, there's only 2 ' +' Julia is the most important, I don’t know if she just happened to be perfect for this role, or she’s really a masterpiece actress! I believed her too much and liked her in the trailer, it is a pity that she is underrated in the movies.
And the second + (no longer a secret) tune from the movie. I'm here without comment.
In general, another disappointment, what could be more painful than waiting more than a decade for the continuation of your favorite film and watching how it was screwed up? Eren Krueger and Verbinski and Nakata are probably very disappointed at the way their wonderful films have continued. ..and I don't think it's worth blaming Walter Parks and McDonald, and certain scenes here are really well made up, but here's the rest.

Let's say I didn't watch the original Calls, because that's what it is. More precisely, I remember that in my early youth I tried to look, but I didn’t like it. I can't remember anything beyond time. So this American remake for me is like a clean slate. Well, I remember the basis of the story that the girl, the well, the bell, 7 days, the kirdyk kitten. But nothing more. More I even remember parodies from a Very Scary Movie, extremely successful, by the way.
There. What is the movie Calls? Hmm. Imagine you took Gothic, mixed with the first two parts of Destination. That’s what I’m talking about.
Yeah, it's not a horror movie. The film is rather an action-packed youth thriller with elements of horror. But at the same time, it has a beautiful plot and a rather thoughtful story. A story that captures and does not let go. Without sagging. Something happens all the time. Interesting. Mysteries, partial clues - and a new cycle of incomprehensibility. At some point, the filmmakers played too much in the thriller, forgetting even about the original idea. Here it, in general, and not disclosed, how the viewer will suffer for 7 days. But it turned out quite original and intriguing thriller. Interesting story. I think the film got a lot of negative reviews from fans of the original Calls, because yes, the subject is akin to a movie made from a book. So they took the idea and the names, and the plot was completely different. But it's more interesting than that.
What I liked most about Calls was that feeling of immersion in what was happening on the screen. It intrigues, fascinates and sucks into itself. As it was in Gothic, as it was in the first parts of the Destination Point, when the film was not shot “only everyone would rest”, but for clues, fighting the inevitable and trying to survive. That's when it was still interesting. This is the same story that awaits us in Calls.
Over. As a thriller, I got everything I wanted from the movie. Horror here is not enough, yes, but it is, and adds to the notes of the thriller that tension and spark. Yes, there is absolutely no blood-gut-meat, but these scenes “now something will happen” – enough. Yes, the authors of the film jumped very far from the original idea, but in the end, the remake turned out, we can say, even quite an autonomous story. Whether this attempt will go into the franchise is an open question, in general, the ears are very healthy. But very negative reviews of critics can play a bad joke. And call the creators of the film not “Calls”, and “Samara” at least – it would be much more positive.
' Calls' sample 2017 - is an attempt to restart the franchise about the famous girl from the well. The same concept, but new heroes, background and environment. To understand the meaning of the word 'attempt', we turn to the American origins of the series.
'The Call' Mount Verbinski 2002 is an extremely entertaining film, especially by today's standards. Here is the recognizable soundtrack of Hans Zimmer (just listen to ' The Well', goosebumps are provided), verified directing (' cold' picture + almost perfect editing), actors of the first magnitude, smart script and no screamers. The focus is on the mystical atmosphere and the process of investigation.
In the new iteration of all the above, of course, not. This is a typical newfangled horror with faceless heroes, a talentless script, a meager budget and screamers, everywhere and everywhere. In general, a complete passerby, only here is one ' but'.
In 2005, before the release of 'Call 2', a short film was filmed under the title 'Calls'. A kind of spin-off, developing the ideas of the first part, but not continuing them directly. The concept of building a whole subculture around the video recording of Samara was taken as a basis. Expanding the universe as good sequels should (I'm looking at you, 'Call 2', aha). All the highlights of the original film are available, but the timing of 14 minutes does not give much space.
So, in 'Calls'2017 took this idea. And, paradoxically, it was implemented worse than in the short film. Instead of a whole closed social network (yes, yes! in 2005), a simple gathering of crazy hipster students to whom someone allocated a whole floor in an educational institution for their parties. What happened to poor Samara? Its backstory was turned into a farce of clichés about religion and violence, and restrictive rules were thrown to hell. Not to mention the final twist.
In defense of the film, I can only say that there is an interesting foundation here, and the concept of restarting with new ideas is good, but the implementation is nightmarish. With a less adequate analysis, the script will not stand up to any criticism, the locations are boring, the characters are template, and the soundtrack was clearly written for some blockbuster. And sculpt 3 points, but the problems listed above are inherent in most new horrors, and against their background even such ' Calls' there is something to rattle. At any rate, it is clearly more interesting than the amorphous movie 'Call 2' even being a retelling of a familiar story.
Trailers before the movie scared more than the movie itself
On ' Calls' went to the cinema, expecting at least some emotion and tension. But, unfortunately, the only emotions left from watching are sadness and disappointment. Despite my unbearable sentimentality, the story of Samara and her mother failed to arouse any sympathy in me, let alone tears over the fate of the character.
I don't remember the first 'Calls' but they really scared me. Their atmosphere captured, forced to look to the end. We shared videos of Samara with each other, as the films were known among teenagers. And this one. This film is not something that someone will pass on, you will not even want to review it.
To begin with, the beginning was desperately reminiscent ' Destination' though it most likely had a message that She would find you anywhere. It was... No way. Then one of the heroes, a teacher who smokes grass. Really? In horror, you add a character with a drug addiction and expect everyone to believe his hallucinations? It was weird.
Then they show a couple of students where the young man is too sweet. He'd be in LGBT movies, he's not a thing. The heroine is naive, stupid, and besides irritation and sighs did not cause anything. Her actions were logical, then not very (and why not climb into the grave of an evil spirit?).
The second half of the film was really reminiscent 'Don't Breathe' and even the actions were completely repeated in some moments. Apparently, the writers did not have enough imagination to make a really worthwhile movie, and they just randomly plucked other people's ideas from horror films, recorded them, and decided to shoot.
Leaving traditional haunted mansions, abandoned mines and psychiatric hospitals out of business, in 1991, Japanese writer Koji Suzuki released his most famous horror novel, disturbing and truly frightening '. The story of a terrifying curse, acting through VCRs, which are in the house of almost every person, interested the audience with a fresh look at stagnant mysticism, and at the same time brought genuine anxiety to the everyday life of people who are now in constant tension. In an era when the Internet was the prerogative of a select few, and videotapes wandered between people without any restrictions, the phenomenon '. Koji Suzuki has become a truly menacing character, turning into a popular urban horror story, forcing the familiar audience to repeatedly pray to higher forces that ordinary home viewing of a movie suddenly turns into a countdown of the last 7 days of earthly life, after the outcome of which there is an inevitable death.
Suzuki's novel attracted the attention of not only ordinary readers, but also horror director Hideo Nakata, whose adaptation of "The Call" & #39, which hit theaters in 1998, continued the grateful cause of intimidating people. The screen incarnation of otherworldly revenge, which has no restrictions, acquired numerous sequels, migrated to South Korea and finally fell into the hands of Gora Verbinski, who created the most popular version of the “Bell & #39” for a Western audience. In fact, a good, disturbing, frightening film caused panic among an overly impressionable audience, simultaneously collecting a staggering amount at the box office, after which the question of sequel disappeared by itself. For the sequel to the American variation of the idea of Koji Suzuki, the creator of the first Japanese film of the series, Hideo Nakata, was invited, but he failed to repeat the success of the Verbinski tape. Both in terms of artistic merit and in matters of rental ' Call 2' did not satisfy the producers, simultaneously scaring off part of the audience from the franchise. It seemed that the time of the history of the sinister Samara was in the past, as completely different monsters began to dominate the screen ('Saw', 'Paranormal phenomenon'), but as one classic horror story said - sometimes they come back. . .
Ambiguously accepted ' Call 2' postponed work on the creation of the triquel, and nevertheless in the depths of Paramount Pictures studio there was a desire to continue the plot despite the fact that Hideo Nakata's tape kind of ended the moaning of the embittered Samara, revealing the last secrets of her tragic biography. Talks about the continuation of the franchise for a long time were unofficial, and yet with the arrival of the post of director ' The Call' F. Javier Gutierrez, a protégé of James Wan himself, the next head of the frenzy of Samara rose from the production hell, acquiring a very large budget for modern horror, as well as young unknown performers whose attractive faces were to attract to viewing the appropriate audience, which is the main segment of viewers visiting theaters. About the stars of the original caliber of Naomi Watts Gutierrez and the company no longer stated, strong ties with the previous parts were deliberately thrown aside, and this means that ' Calls' act as a kind of capital degeneration of the franchise, while not excluding events that occurred under the leadership of Verbinski and Nakat.
This time, the story takes place in the days of social media, laptops and the universal electronic web. Video recorders remain the property of nostalgia, although some people are still in no hurry to part with them, periodically returning from oblivion records, which everyone has long forgotten. The main character of the story becomes an attractive girl named Julia (Matilda Luts), whose boyfriend Holt (Alex Rowe) goes to college, located at an impressive distance from home. Young people have no choice but to communicate through a laptop, daily describing everything that happens to them every day. Never missing a communication session, the lovers retained the spark of feeling and Julia did not have to worry about Holt’s honesty, but one evening the guy disappears, and never returned to the network. Deciding to understand the situation, Julia arrives at college and gradually begins to realize that her boyfriend was in a serious alteration. And problems with high school or sexy girls have nothing to do with this. Holt becomes the target of a curse that has once again spread its demonic wings. The usual viewing of some repulsive video triggers the inevitable seven-day mechanism of death, which Julia has to deal with while she is still able to at least influence something.
The tape of F. Javier Gutierrez is the brightest example of how the franchises that have long lost their relevance rise from the grave, chasing after the genre brethren of a new generation at their peak. The creators tried to distance themselves as much as possible from the tense, oppressive atmosphere of the Verbinski film, caused by competent directing and decent acting roles, focusing the attention of the audience on youth style with all the consequences that come from this. To replace the interesting, extraordinary Naomi Watts, who played an effective and thorough heroine, come students, periodically annoying with excessive emotionality and inability to accept the curse with dignity, speaking against him the most powerful weapon, that is, sober reason. And this hides the strongest flaws 'Zvonkov', since the characters are not so interesting that with a sinking heart to follow their vicissitudes. Matilda Luts apparently has not yet gained the experience of a serious dramatic actress, which is why her facial potential is reduced to a meager pair of expressions, which she tries to compensate with screams and squealing, drowning out consciousness. Not particularly impressive game Alex Rowe, another staff handsome, relying solely on external data. It was nice to see only Vincent D’Onofrio in the frame, although his role was not so stunning to compensate for the shortcomings of the skills of young colleagues.
Having sacrificed the atmosphere, the director excluded a fair share of nightmares from the narrative, almost cutting down the suspense at the root, leaving only the detective component with a mystical bias on the surface. And those rare attempts to scare the audience, which are taken by Gutierrez, did not have even a minimal effect, distracting from the main action. In fairness, it is worth admitting that the script works of a whole board of authors, including also the notorious artisan Akiva Goldsman, have borne certain fruits, from which “Calls” produce not so sad a spectacle as a triquel-reboot of the absolutely unnecessary “Witch of Blair”. Working on the return of Samara, the creators were inspired by the latest fashion trends in the genre like “Don’t Breathe” and “It follows you”, without hesitation borrowing successful developments.
The investigation into which the main character is launched is full of a couple of interesting surprises, and if you do not pay attention to the futile attempts to scare Gutierrez, “Calls” look more or less presentable. We learn many previously hidden facts from the childhood of Samara, and the action itself, as is customary, makes a sharp reversal, changing the known idea of the curse. Of course, all this is done solely in order to have a chance to continue without a complete restart of the series, and it is good that it at least does not cause feelings of acute rejection. But something tells me that the hypothetical sequels of “Bells” are not waiting for the best of times.

Of all that is now in the cinema, this film was in the minority to see me as a spectator, but by the will of fate I was a guest. I'll tell you what it is.
Did you watch the call and call 2? I don't. But most of them are, so you’ll realize that the main story revolves around a mysterious tape, watching which a person dies on day 7. Only heroes have changed. Young couple.
The film smells crazy template and secondary genre horror and horror. The horror of the kstate is not observed at all. Well, if you certainly think of the horror as sharp sounds and movements, then yes, the film is really permeated with horror. Along and across.
The actions of the main characters, as in most modern “horrors”, are ridiculous. It seems to the couple that the characters of the film were given the script of the film, and they went straight through it, went to certain places and did certain actions. Paphosity, heroism and a sense of duty here and blows, from all cracks (well, it's Hollywood his mother). The plot is interesting, but in general nothing interesting and unusual.
Playing actors is basically nothing. There were moments of overplay. There were moments of falsehood.
The film is billed as horror and drama. Horrors fly by immediately. Drama? Well, there was a bit of it, but again, I don't believe in such drama.
I advise guys to go with their girlfriends, so to speak, kill time and unload a little. Fans of horror movies have nothing to do.

I wanted to bet even less for such a template, but I really liked the camera work. There were moments that were very interestingly shot.
As I expected, the film ' Calls' turned out, to put it mildly, second-rate. I can’t call it a complete failure, the beginning was quite intriguing, but the further I went, the more disappointed I was. The director decided to hit some religious mud and remove subdrama.
People are most afraid of the unknown. The evil in the film must be absolute, unknown and devoid of any human qualities. This is how you can make the viewer fear the TV girl. Here we see a long and boring history, seasoned with religious things. But why play on a good name 'Call'? It seems that the director lacked the imagination to create something new and decided to take an old idea and dramatize it. It's not that bad.
I will not pay attention to the stupid actions of the characters. There are as many such moments here as in other second-rate horror films. I had a good time pulling my hair out of my mouth. Reminiscent of cleaning the clogged drain in the bathroom.
In short, the film is weak, but for a more or less gloomy atmosphere and a satisfactory performance of the actors, he can score a few points. If you've watched Japanese 'Call' most likely 'Calls' you'll be disappointed. We advise you not to waste time and money to go to the cinema on this slag.
Calls is the third full-length American film about the ill-fated videotape and adventures of Samara. Recently, the Japanese crossover “Cursed: Confrontation” was shown in cinemas, in which, by analogy with the painting “Freddy vs. Jason”, two famous Japanese ghosts of the paintings “The Curse” and “The Call” collided in battle. “Confrontation” was a very controversial film, not very well received in Russia, although, perhaps, is not a complete failure. Some viewers saw in it the presence of black humor and funny moments, why the movie can at least entertain and not allow to fall into great boredom. But, everything here is purely individual and depends on certain preferences of the individual and his passion for horror films.
I won’t compare “Calls” to the Japanese versions, so as not to go into too much detail, only to say that compared to the film by Gore Verbinski in 2005, this film is very weak. It is not even that videotapes, VCRs are outdated and this project will not be interesting to the audience, not at all - I would be very interested to learn the further history of Samara, its origin, how it became so, etc. “Calls” could focus on such moments in more detail, but in fact the film decided to show us all the same as in the previous parts: all the tricks and chips shown with Samara are literally copied from previous films, there is absolutely nothing new in her actions. If initially in the first film, she was horrified by her appearances (still goosebumps from the scene of her exit from the TV), then by the third part they became weary and no longer produce the desired effect. Here lies the problem of the triquel - dampness and lack of suspense. If the first film could really scare and interest, then “Calls” look like chewed gum, lost its taste.
The movie was very long. It is clearly lacking in spectacle moments. It seems that most of the events of the picture occur in gloomy tones, the image of Samara itself is not spoiled and all sorts of her antics should produce pleasant feelings of nostalgia, but all this will not be enough for the third part - the picture came out raw and faded.
The actions of the main characters are incredibly stupid and predictable. When watching it, it seemed that they wanted their own speedy death and purposefully sought Samara, so that she would render them such a service. Late at night, Julia, so frightened at first, suddenly decides to take a late night walk through dubious places in search of answers to her questions. Well, why don't she wait for her boyfriend and investigate together? Why didn't she bring some kind of self-defense weapon? Why does she even go out on her own with a ghost she doesn't even know how to stop? To be honest, I still have a lot of questions similar to her, because the actions of the main character are so illogical that they suggest her general inadequacy, lack of self-preservation instinct.
All the most interesting scenes were shown in the trailer, leaving the endless dialogues of the main characters behind the scenes. The advertisement looked really impressive and I’m sure it encouraged many people to watch the movie. But there is nothing left behind a beautiful wrapper.
Of the advantages of the picture, I note only the general seriousness of what is happening - the picture, although dull, does not slide into the purest insanity, like most famous franchises. Remember the last parts of “Rebel from Hell”, “Children of Corn”, “Lord of the Dolls”. Maybe “The Call” is waiting ahead, but for now we have the weakest in terms of horror passage.
Output. A one-off, boring film inferior to its predecessors. It will be useful for one-time viewing, but no more.
Who would have thought that the franchise ' Call' will receive such an unexpected sequel just twelve years later, changing the format of video appeals and moving away from sinister VHS views. Technology has changed significantly, the ways of spreading and the very mechanism of the curse. In fact, the third part of the franchise is already called ' Calls', squeezed on all sides by the distrust of the audience, the skepticism of critics and the clutches of the genre itself, shows that in a single film you can go your own way. F. Javier Gutierrez, who directed this film, very carefully treated the material of the two previous Hollywood & #39; Calls & #39; and unfolded the material to a greater extent in the direction of mysticism. Current 'Calls' is a very strange mixture of horror reboot and mystical detective, in which there is a confidently told story within the genre, demonstrating genre limitations.
It is quite obvious that the story of single mother Rachel from the previous ' Calls' performed by Naomi Watts could hardly have a worthy continuation after the box office failure of the second part of the franchise. The introduction to the leading roles of Julia and Holt in the new film Matilda Luts (series ' Crossing the Line') and Alex Rowe ('5th Wave', 'Sniper: Legacy') gives the opportunity for a fundamental reboot of the script. The story of Orpheus and Eurydice is not only quoted in the plot, it undergoes a gender transformation, which is beneficial to the tape, and the salvation of the lost in 'Semidevia' Holta is already engaged in his beloved. Therefore, the basis for the plot 'Zvonkov' is a voluntary sacrifice-savior, following the trail in the already familiar American outback. Giving another white ball in favor of Gutierrez and the writers, I note that the idea of a chain reaction of the spread of viral video and its on-screen spread quite confidently incites fear and acts as a pyramid of death, where everyone is looking for his victim-tail for survival.
Do not be afraid of strangers, much more dangerous, according to the version 'Zvonkov', university eccentrics looking for the existence of the soul with the help of questionable grainy video clips. It is Gabriel (Johnny Galecki, ' The Big Bang Theory', 'Time') who involves unsuspecting students in his strange experiment and puts them in the death machine, he can claim the role of the main villain of this film, pressing all the triggers and willingly reflecting on what he did. Vincent D’Onofrio is brilliant in his role as a blind priest, speaks brilliantly of himself in the third person and becomes the nail of the story. For this actor, it is not difficult to play not just a saint without coming, but a dark cynical evil without age, the creator of his personal hell, spider-like clingy to his victims. In favor of Gutierrez as a director, it is also said that how he works with the classic for ' Calls' visual material, all these concentric rings, flies crawling out in the right places, sinister inscriptions in the crypt and a swarm of cicadas - in the category of small joys for sophisticated connoisseurs of such tapes.
Gutierrez works very carefully with the atmosphere in the film and creates fear with the help of effects and angles, attracting the entire classic arsenal of horror from lighting design to careful editing of the soundtrack to the tape. Every sound and sound in 'Calls' pump exactly atmospheric horror: whether it is an unexpectedly opening umbrella or a dog barking. Interesting quote 'Psycho' Hitchcock, which is not close to the original, but works on the overall mood of this film. The torment of the filmmakers is seen mainly in the search for an adequate idea of the film for people who cannot imagine their lives without a smartphone and social networks, where evil can roll simply from a gadget without a cumbersome scheme with VHS-viewing. The finale of the tape obsessively hints at the continuation of the story and we hope that the continuation of the franchise will be already with the use of cloud technologies and will be more hasty to keep up with technical progress.

"I painted the ceiling recently, don't get in the way."
The success of many films in the genre ' Horror' is in the screeners, and it does not matter the quality makeup of the character or the amateurs of the program ' Faceless' (at best), no matter how the actor plays, the main hope for the sound and video editing team. That is why I turn away when I feel ' now something will come out', but after all ' Call' this is first of all a psychological stampede, when the viewer feels the whole reality of the situation, rushes to throw out all the means of cellular communication, empathizes with the hero and then does not sleep all night, not because Samara is very scary (in the first 2 parts, however, terrible), but because the grave atmosphere of the film is transferred to the cinema, the room, God forbid you dream... here they are real horror stories, in every terrible film, they are hidden for a psychologist, if they are constantly connected for a friend.
I'll start making the film. The script is very weak, such stories can be stamped a lot, you do not have to think, really, as many templates and stupidities in the style have already said: 'Look at the grave is open, perhaps I will climb there' Common sense is absent, for the sake of intimidating, but the director is so focused on the main character who will bring the box office that he forgets that Julia is a young girl, fragile and without, I think, behind the shoulders of stories that would temper her for this kind of adventure. She very quickly became involved in the plot, as if a part of the film was cut, a ragged editing not only at this moment, but also on the film.
The film is a remake of several unsuccessful films at once. And I will allow myself a harmless spoiler - why all these people on the plane?
To the actors! The main character. No, not Jude, Samara. Many parts in a row tell the story of this girl, get this information with difficulty, suffering fear and horror, digging in the mud in the pouring rain, find a well in the basements, of course climb there and pity the unhappy long-haired beauty and her difficult fate. You want to see something new? She's still crawling, still whispering the number of days. At the same time, the quality of the shooting does not change, not the best work of the film crew.
Matilda Anna Ingrid Luts - I'm passing judgment. Play only in films for 16-year-olds with a pretty appearance, ridiculous facial expression and lack of acting data. How to blog on YouTube.
Joni Galecki? Why did you star in this movie, and in this incomprehensible role? To portray a person interested in the phenomenon of a terrible video Leonard Hofstadter failed. Everything he said was nothing more than memorized lines.
The rest of the actors are empty, there are no complaints about them, but it is difficult to remember. It was, and was, just like the movie.

Samara is amazingly talented, but evil, dead, vengeful, treacherous, cold, wet, cruel, scary girl.
Perhaps you should not expect from this horror the same success, and most importantly, the same tension as the film with Naomi Watts in the title role. If the first part of the U.S. production was really scary, creepy and instilling fear, then the sequel and new film that followed a couple of years later - "Calls" - turned out to be only a weak attempt to reproduce the story of the sinister videotape.
In the 2017 film, events unfold in exactly the same way: someone watches the tape, someone calls, someone dies. True, in this case, the creators decided that the former Samara will not cause the viewer the same emotions, which means that Evil must be improved.
The plot of the film, initially developing as a story about a cassette killer, gradually flows into an attempt to recreate the recently released film “Don’t Breathe”. Seriously, why copy something that recently successfully shot at the box office? At the same time, the “Bell” decided to recreate a copy of Stephen Lang, who has his secret.
The focus is on a couple of young people – Julia and her boyfriend Holt, who, after entering college, takes part in a dubious experiment and now finds himself on the verge of life and death, because Samara will not let anyone who watched her tape go. Julia and her boyfriend have to go a difficult way to unravel the mystery of the sinister ghost, getting out of the well and crossing the television threshold.
"Calls" copied a number of films. In addition to “Don’t Breathe”, this is also “Game” with Michael Douglas (see the episode with a door handle lowering the glass), this is “Supernatural” (see any episode where the Winchester brothers operate in cemeteries to remove curses from unfortunate people), this is the horror “It” in 2014 (see the way the curse in this horror film is transmitted from one person to another).
If we consider “Calls” as a horror movie, we can give it an assessment of the behavior of the audience in the cinema. If some horrors cause animation in the audience, girls squeal, guys try to hide their fright behind stupid jokes and hamstrings of each other, then here such behavior is absolutely not traced. Yes, there are a couple of tense moments in the film, but all of them are predictable and foreseeable, and infrequent appearances of Samara in the frame do not look at all creepy, her actions are expected.
The beginning of the film looks like the director decided to justify the appearance of a video recorder with a cassette in the frame. I think the plane episode should be moved to the end to make it clear to the viewer that Evil has indeed been reborn. Even despite the fact that the last shots animate what is happening on the screen, explaining this name of the film, this does not affect the overall impression left after the film show: a weak plot, stupid deeds of the characters, primitive dialogue, copypaste on copypaste.
The film left a depressing impression. Again, if the first movie was really cool, terrible, then this story is rather a snotty weak horror film for once, in which the duo of the main characters commits absolutely rash actions (both separately and together) and strikes with a complete lack of self-preservation instinct.
But look at you. I do not impose my opinion on anyone.
The genre of mystical horror has died, and it is already official. Randy was right from the original 'Scream' - sequels ruined horror as a genre. 'Call' launched in Japan almost 20 years ago, mussels and to this day. Having survived the American reincarnation, a ton of sequels and even a failed crossover with the heroes of the ribbon-competitor ' The Curse', the franchise again tries to rise from the dead with the help of another remake sequel straight from Hollywood.
I did not have much hope and went to the session only in memory of the original 'The Call' and the girl Samara, which at one time simply frightened all my classmates. And how scary it was to insert unsigned cassettes into the VCR - so it's creepy to remember at all. But the years have passed, tape recorders have sunk into oblivion, like many attributes of those times. It was also very interesting how the creators decided to wrap the story about Samara in the age of the Internet and modern technologies.
The beginning of the film was more than adrenaline. Had it not been for the fatal leak of this scene in one of the trailers, the effect would have been much more powerful. Even for a moment, it seemed that it might come out. But in fact, of course, there was no miracle.
During the viewing I did not leave the feeling that the creators decided to keep the audience for idiots. As if they forgot that, in addition to the first 'Call', there was also a second, as well as a short film 'Calls', preceding the sequel (from which the lion’s share of ideas was borrowed). And most importantly, they revealed most of the intrigues that set the tone for the film. Of course, still something was added, because if not, the review would cast a red tint. If you have watched with at least one eye and half of all the tapes above, you will easily reveal most of the intrigues ' Calls' even before they are presented to you.
Sami ' Calls' appear more technological, more youthful, but less atmospheric fellow 'Call' Mount Verbinski. Due to young actors, topics about college and other attributes of modern life, it is achieved to attract exactly the audience that the creators wanted to get. And everything would be very cool if not for one fat 'NO'. And the fact is that ' Calls' is a pronounced secondary film. Nothing new even tried to bring, which is why the action is so predictable that it is not even funny. Terrible moments are few, and they are lubricated with their similarity to the films nearby in the genre. Secrets and secrets are expectedly far-fetched, the characters are predictably stupid, and the finale, shamelessly copied from the second American & #39; Curse & #39; (revised it the other day and at a session at this moment just laughed in his voice). The fact that it is not enough to borrow now is only plagiarism, only hardcore.
In some places, the tape is unreasonably long, some scenes (in particular, the opening) generally seem superfluous. The actors are so good, the main character overplayed from the heart. I remember her boyfriend by 'Fifth Wave', has never evolved, but it is quite suitable for advertising fitness halls. The script often hit the ears with murderous dialogue, but it has much to praise. At least for the fact that now there are no more questions about the origin of Samara Morgan, since the creators answered them in full, for which they are very grateful. And as befits in the mystical horrors of recent years, there will be no happy ending. Apparently, the creators understood that the sequel will still not be able to remove. Maybe it's for the best. How much can you torture the corpse of a poor girl from a well?
Average viewers who do not bite into the genre, the film may well like. But to both fans of the series and those who have closely followed it throughout the franchise's growth, the unambiguous turn is off the gate. Although I know that it is useless to warn - look anyway. Don’t forget to make a copy and show it to someone else. Will the phone ring and tell you you have seven days to live?

15 years ago I watched the same 'Call' Yeah, Impressive. Yeah, it did. Therefore, I was foolishly and naively hoping that 'Calls' is a worthy continuation of the cult film. But alas, we're all wrong. ' Call' no longer cake, as they say.
A little bit about the plot. Two lovers break up for a while. He went to college, and she probably didn't. For several weeks, young people communicate on the Internet. But one day the guy stops answering. The girl throws everything and rushes to her beloved. And waiting for her is not her favorite heart, and unpleasant video and suspicious biology professor. There is a lot to miss to avoid spoiling. But be sure - where the academician, there is the long-awaited Samara. Except she's not what she used to be. There's not the horror she instilled. And it's not even about the actress.
Now a little about modern horror movies. They all know that most of them are crimson. It is they who draw most of the not the most successful films. That is, if you are a director and you do not know how to make a movie scary, make as many screeners as possible, and your budget will pay off at least a little. In 'Calls' there was no such moment. Except when the main characters suddenly opened the umbrella. That's it. There was nothing more sudden. Honestly, I wanted to write it to the creators after the film and ask them to return the money for the ticket.
Actors play. Just like in any low-budget American comedy. Only for this very comedy, such a talent would be suitable. But for the continuation of the famous horror film - alas, no. I was surprised by the presence of Johnny Galecki in the cast. Apparently, everything became very bad, since ' Leonard' agreed to become a secondary and not the most intelligent character.
In general, if you've never watched 'Call' and any other horror movie, you might like it. If you’ve seen the movie that made your blood cold, never watch it. Even for the money.
The oppressive atmosphere? A logical investigation? Reasonable main character? Ha! Suck Gore Verbinski! You too, Hideo Nakata! Javier Gutierrez knows best what people need. With the support of a squad of writers and a pg-13 rating, he was able to create an incredibly funny parody of The Call. Even “A Very Scary Movie 3” and nearby does not stand for the degree of persistence and stupidity of the script.
So, the cold corpse of a child from the well is raped again. This time, in a particularly brutal way. Wonder writers thought for a long time and finally gave birth to a script in which Samara no longer scares at all. No word at all. Moreover, by the end, you already begin to sincerely hope for the imminent appearance of a ghost, so that she finally finishes off the main character and everything is over. It is not easy to watch the torment of others. Especially mental. Turning primarily to the remake from Verbinski, I want to emphasize that there was an investigation. An investigation, damn it, not a persistent display of visions, after which even the late timid will guess what the main “secret” of the picture is. What about the main character? Dumb as a cork, that's what comes to mind first. The horror of her situation does not justify her being so stupid and unable to understand, even the most simple truth that is put in her face. And the actress is of course good, so believably playing an idiot that you believe her unconditionally. He is the main (secondary) hero. Why he is needed here is absolutely unclear. The only thing he did was give a boost of motivation for the main character in the beginning.
There is no atmosphere as such. Even the ominous record and that show in a crumpled form. The only one who seems to have really tried in this mess is the composer. Not Hans Zimmer, of course, but he's pretty good. As a result, moments want to frankly laugh at the stupidity of what is happening. Two weak people are stuck in their heads and don’t know what to do. Scripts are trampling on and do not know what else to try to scare the viewer this time, because even the screamers do not work. And Vincent D'Onofrio is just waiting for the check to be handed over and finally released home.
I think most people who have been waiting and going to the theater for this movie have had little hope. This is evident from the fact that the director of the film today was not a brilliant mystic Hideo Nakata, the author of the original versions of the call, as well as the second part of the American version, but some unknown Spaniard with a very positive and smiling face in the profile. The main roles are not an adult, serious lady Naomi Watts, who inspires confidence in the audience of any gender and age, but a little girl with a complex name Matilda Anna Ingrid Luts. Very cute, sweet, but completely unlike a fighter with hellish evil. About other actors, ate honestly, do not want to talk at all. (Pretty and absolutely worthless henchman of the main character annoyed nightmare) Well, most importantly - it was not clear what they wanted to tell us next, since they coped with all the troubles in the last part.
That’s why for me the film was just a goal to pleasantly argue with those times when ' Call' made my knees tremble and throw away, without looking, all the unlabeled tapes from the home collection. Listen to the wonderful, albeit unpleasantly changed music of Hans Zimmer.
Yet, despite the absurdity of creating a sequel to what had logically ended, it was gratifying to learn some new details of the story. There is an obvious detective story in the film. In fact, you can’t say that the film has a bad script. Yes, he limps in places, does not fit with the previous parts, the places of action of the heroes are unreasonable, their motives are generally covered with a terrible secret. But I want to see. And intrigue is the key to success. And in general, if not for such a cheap cast and misunderstandings with the director, then maybe the film would turn out better.
That’s why I don’t want the review to be negative. At least because after the film immediately want to see the first two parts to make amends.

We’re tired of girls with black hair coming out of TV.
We are tired of their curses, which cannot be stopped.
And death in a week, alas, is no longer frightening.
I've been waiting too long for this movie.
Cons:
The call has already turned into a classic, it is difficult to imagine a person who somehow associates himself with horror and has never watched it, or at least never heard it. What do you do with films that have become cult films? Right, they're making a sequel. Yes, they are already filming just to withdraw and cut down more money for everyone who will really be able to believe that on the screen you can see something as beautiful as the first or second part.
Even in the cinema it does not look impressive, at some moments my eyes began to stick together, my heart also does not go to the heels of the screamers, because you know when something will come out here, and when everything will be absolutely calm on the screen, and at some moments I easily guessed the next actions of the characters.
Alas, the film was leaked like horror, because this is how it was positioned for us, I saw a melodrama there, but not a horror film, so if you go to the cinema to be very scared, then I advise you not to expect anything.
Pros:
To be honest, the film does not look like a fake, where blood is easily distinguished from ketchup, and the murders look so implausible that it seems like it was shot by a group of schoolchildren, where a script that can be put into one page stretches for half an hour or more. In this film everything looked pretty good, which is good, because after this ' promising' rating, I expected exactly what was described above.
Ending. It is not much different from the rest ' Calls' but it is good. I will not tell you what it is now, of course, you will see for yourself, but I really liked it and made it overestimate the film by a few points, because after I almost fell asleep, I did not want to put anything above the top four.
I am glad that the film still stands out against the background of modern cinema in the genre of horror and something catchy. Now as such, horrors are not removed at all, but ' Calls' At least they look decent and you do not regret the money spent.
Fans ' Call' I advise you to go, people’s opinions here are specifically divided, and everyone with whom I went on it completely different point of view, so it is definitely worth going, not relying on other people’s reviews, whatever they may be.
I’m a big fan of the Call series. Back in 2002, I touched this story for the first time, and it frightened me, it infuriated me, and it shocked me to the core. Gore Verbinski managed to drag the viewer into his story, to make you experience the horror together with the heroes to understand the essence of the horror.
F. Javier Gutierrez, who are you? In my opinion, the answer to this question is in his films, of which there are not so many, but surely drown their author. It is necessary to have talent, even some traits of genius, that would so sharply and irrevocably spoil everything!
The film does not really have a plot, it seems that the script, as in soap operas like Santa Barbara, was written right on the go, on his knees. Every sequel to the plot smells like something ridiculous. Invented the father of Samara, who generally very ambiguously fit into the plot, as if he was forced there and here he is trying to fit into the plot.
College, professor, students are generally some cardboard dolls that stuck for extras apparently, because the semantic load is almost not carried, although the author diligently tried to give them importance.
The main actors were amazed by their incompetence.
Matilda Anna Ingrid Luts is an actress simply ' Outstanding'. The whole film was frightened by 'paper'. He climbs into graves, goes to maniacs, looks at corpses without a shadow of fear and doubts sometimes unexpectedly frightened by obvious things (apparently according to the script).
Alex Rowe is really good! The whole movie showed itself as best it could. Positioned in front of the camera as best he could. The only question that came up when you looked at his work was, what kind of career are you building? Actor or model? No games, no emotions, nothing! Just spin a handsome man in the camera for an hour and a half and that's it!
The result was a pitiful semblance of horror, with negligent play of actors and ugly weak plot. Frankly leaving the cinema was a pity spent money.
It’s a shame that this has become the norm in Hollywood lately. . .
Call is one of the few films that has passed the test of time and has become a cult classic. How many warm memories and gold for the production of bricks gives this series. Sleepless nights, fear of television and phone calls Oh, there were times.
And now they are so full that nothing scares. Oversaturation of the genre, all things...
Last year, there was a movie called The Damned: Confrontation. Although there and met familiar characters, but it was more like a kind of comedy show with tricks from the eighties. Nostalgia, but no more.
And now on the screens out a direct sequel to the famous horror – “Calls”.
Basically, it is a cool and fascinating story, with a pleasant and measured narrative. If not for the incomprehensible beginning, which hits the forehead with action scenes. It was like a piece was ripped out of the middle. What's going on here? Who are they? No response. After the leap in time, we are introduced to the main characters, trying to link this piece to the main events. And it's pretty ridiculous. Initially, you think that they should have finished the film, but after watching the picture you realize. It’s too much and you could do without it.
What was great was that the spirit of classic films was restored. Not the original Japanese "Ring", but the American remake, which went down in history.
All the characters are well revealed. Although there are some nitpicking about the actors’ game, but it is more likely that the script according to which they go is to blame. Though silly, but still played life situations and reliably. So it's all subjective here. Leonard Hovst... um, Johnny Galecki is back as a botanist. This cliché never leaves him. But the image is different and played well.
It's a great story. Very few mistakes. Everything's going smoothly. History is served in even portions. You have time to digest and reflect on what you see before the next act. There are also many Easter cards and references. Not only for past films, but also for the current ones. There's a little predictability. For example, you can initially guess the significance of the mark on the girl’s hand and what all this will lead to. But most of them still manage to disguise themselves and do not betray themselves until the right moment. Here we learn the true story of Samara and a clear hint of a continuation.
And it's all very well, except for one factor, it's not horror. Absolutely. The director made a kind of mystical thriller. History does not let go to the end, but it does not scare at all. Alas. It is also difficult to understand the logical errors.
A very interesting story with a very strange beginning, which has nothing to do with the horror genre.
The lights go out, the heroine is desperately trying to see something through the thick darkness, her body is in chills, she still looks for a silhouette in the dark.
..and the whole room laughs.
Yes, you say, it is foolish to go to the cinema for a horror and expect something supernatural from it in terms of whipping up fear and an uncomfortable atmosphere when watching. Of course, I agree with you, but there have been cases when the film, although not particularly frightening when watching in the hall, but throws a very interesting plot rod and you watch it in order to find out how it will end. This is unfortunately not the case again 'Calls'. Going to the cinema, you expect something worthy, the level of the first ' Call' 2002, which, I will not describe all its advantages for the second time, was very addictive and the plot was interesting to watch or at least the second part of it, which was released in 2005 and was viewed with interest, plus, so it happened to me alone in an empty apartment late at night - the effect was, the aftertaste after this dilogy is very pleasant. What can you say about ' Calls' 2017.
12 years. It took almost 12 years for Hollywood to pull out a seemingly completed franchise from the dusty shelves and give birth to either a triquel or a reboot. It turned out to be useless again.
Now more about the object of the review. This is the same story, but in new realities. That is, yes, the curse is in place, while watching you get a call and say that in 7 days you will die, but the video is now not only on the tape, but also on the network, on Macbooks, iPhones and all those gadgets that surround us in 2017. I won’t spoil it, it’s enough, the main plot is in the abstract.
Yes, everything is cool, the inner world of the film keeps pace with the times, the Internet, curses on the network, etc. But first of all, it was already in other movies and it was presented much better (yes, yes, I mean Pulse, many of you will draw parallels) and the hell you can shoot horror as often as possible to fit into it the most rotten clichés for this genre? Yes, yes, I'm talking about the same 'screeners' with which the director tries to scare us, but in vain. No one's been afraid of them for 5 years, hey! They do not try to scare, all these allegedly ' Scarecrows' here only because ' well, it's a horror, as without them' Nothing like that. The plot and logic of those twists that supposedly should surprise us are insignificant, you may not predict the whole denouement, but you do not need it, everything is so boring that you involuntarily begin to wonder whether or not to leave the session.
Neither Vincent D’Onofrio, nor the curtsey to the original dilogy, nor anything saves this action. The whole movie, some characters disappear, others appear, something happens, changes. The final scene will only make you hit yourself in the face with your palm and marvel at the foolishness of the writers over whom marketers rule. Perhaps the fees still will not please the studio bosses and the next part will not be, but it is not certain. As for the pluses (yes, they seem to be here, myself in shock) I will highlight only Johnny Galecki, who looks very cool in this kind of role, it’s time for him to stop playing Leonard in TVV, otherwise he will be associated only with him, which is not good for him, since the series slides (whom I cheat, he is already, but this is not about it).
Thanks for reading and I hope you don’t spend any money on a ticket. It's not worth it, revisit the dilogy.
Already back in 2002, the thriller Gore Verbinski 'Call' was released, which in turn was a remake of the Japanese film of the same name. And at that time, this picture really managed to impress both viewers and critics. The film was frightening, and I still consider 'Ring' 2002 one of the few truly deserving horror films. Then followed the sequel, which was not so successful and after 10 years after that, the third part appears on the screens. And what about her? Alas, nothing decent Let's start in order, but especially crucified describing this creation I will not. So,
1. The acting game is nothing. All actors are real logs, especially the main character, who does not even try to play. What can I say - with Naomi Watts can not be compared.
2. The plot is updated. Thank you for that, but this is all that the creators brought a new - otherwise a copy of the plot of the first part - again investigation, again trips to all sorts of old villages and cemeteries, but unlike the first part, watching all this is frankly boring.
3. There were no frightening moments . I mean, at all. All they are trying to scare us with is the already standard boo-effects. Remember how frightened the first movie was. When it was really scary. Atmosphere Spooky, pressing, pressing. The whole movie seemed to be saturated with this depressive mood. The images of the characters were revealed, so it was interesting to watch them and the main thing is that you empathize with them. There is no atmosphere here, and the characters are nothing more than cardboards against the background.
As a result, I want to speak in general about the horror genre, which has been going through a crisis for several years. There are several factors at play. First of all, modern people, it is extremely difficult to scare something. They'd rather laugh at it. Secondly, to shoot a really high-quality horror film, you need to put a lot of effort and money, and as you know, film studios in this genre do not want to spend much money either on decent actors or good directors and screenwriters. That is, they do it purely for the sake of money, with all the stamps and according to the most classic scheme, which has not worked for a long time. And thirdly, the studios aren't trying to come up with something new, they're still pushing the old stuff. And that's what happened with '. You know, even if the film turned out to be terrible on the second view it will not scare you so much, and on the third and even more so. And when movies with the same is not a new idea riveting over and over again, in the hope that the viewer is still scared – this is the worst. ' Calls ' shot for the first time. Back in 2002, it was really scary. The second part was much less successful - people already knew the history of Samara, saw the damn videotape and that famous scene of getting out of the TV. Okay. The authors of the second part had nothing to fear. But ... apparently after 10 studio bosses decided that it didn’t work a second time, it would work a third time. It didn't work. Alas.

I wouldn’t say this movie was a complete failure. He's just bad.
The third part of the franchise about Samara Morgan can not be called long-awaited. The first film, although it was shot relatively recently, has already become a classic of the horror genre. The second picture was weaker, but still managed to create tension and scare. In addition, the sequel put all the dots over the i in the story of the unfortunate girl. What did you see in the third part?
Samara Morgan's reimagined history has become more modern, but that's where the innovation ends. The plot is unoriginal: the writer gave an incredible mixture of the first and second parts, seasoned with some moments from the recent 'It follows' and deserved 'Silence of the Lambs'. The story does not look whole, and sometimes even brings boredom.
The sound series is borrowed from the first part 'Ring' which causes a feeling of slight nostalgia. I think music is one of the best parts of the film.
But we don't value the sound or the plot in horror movies, do we? Unfortunately, the horror component is also very weak. Even copying the techniques of Gore Verbinski (blue-green colors, cloudy weather, etc.), Javier Gutierrez could not create a tense atmosphere. The film is frightened only by screeners, which are often inappropriate and by the end cause only irritation.
The acting is inconclusive, but against the background of other shortcomings, this one looks small.
Instead of the third part of the film, it is better to review the first ' Call' - save money and keep a pleasant impression of the franchise.

Friday night decided to spend with friends in the cinema and to watch the film 'Calls'. I really wanted to see how the writers decided to continue (or revive) the story of the famous horror film.
At the very beginning, before watching the film, an inscription appeared about the prohibition of unauthorized copying of the film (its fragments) and about criminal liability. And at that moment, from the last row, the sound of the camera shutter was heard, which caused a hysterical laugh of all the spectators in the hall.
In my opinion, the film is absolutely not scary, for some reason you fall asleep while watching, the only scariest moment in the film is a very loud barking dog.
I did not like the film ridiculous dialogues of the characters, and what especially cut the ear is not the best dubbing, it feels like watching a pathetic parody of the film.
As a result, we see another attempt to make money on a well-known franchise.
If while watching 'Call' and 'Call 2' I was very worried about the main characters, then there are no feelings from what I saw.
Separately, I would like to say about the plot, which is actually ' sucked out of the finger', the predictability of the characters is endlessly off the scale.
The writers wanted to surprise everyone with the final 5 minutes of the film, but how I only spoiled the impression of watching.
I highly recommend not watching!
Everything I wanted to see in the movie was in the movie. The atmosphere is sustained. For this alone, we should thank the team of creators.
No one can beat Naomi Watts, alas! With this naive expectation you need to say goodbye while looking for a place in the hall. The director, apparently, did not expect that having started shooting a student horror film, he would get carried away and be able to create a version of the Call with its gloomy note, its philosophy.
The theme of the fatal defeat of consciousness by a negative program, the inevitability of this infection - because the beholder has no choice, no filter from the visual series recorded on the cursed film - this topic is presented much more convex than in the first Call.
It is a pity that the problem of Negative (self?) Programming of consciousness is shown only on the cross section of students. Here the soil could be much richer. Unconscious service to a destructive program is not limited to the age of young people.39 It takes all life, the lives of generations. If the characters were not so young, the film would win.
It is amazing the fatality with which a person is infected with the Curse. No wine is needed for this damage, as in 'Drag me to hell'. Visual series penetrate into consciousness without any filter, which in one way or another is always present during verbal influence. After watching the cursed film, there is only one chance to get rid of destruction - to transfer a new World Picture to another. Is not this the mechanism, the engine of spreading gossip, slander, slander?
The unfunny discovery of the film is also the message - a person is defenseless against Evil from the very moment when visual images bearing the "Curse" & #39; are voiced by the word.
And when the theme of Reflection also comes into play - consciousness as a mirror of reality and a mirror as a reflection of not only real but also super-reality - the film gains momentum that is not available to the minds of most popcorn eaters, turnovers that were not in the first Call.
In general, this part is a truly oppressive and scary film, which does not give even a chance to hope that your life will not turn into hell when you describe it and call a sentence. And isn’t that what the New and Old Testament Bible does, for example, as a self-destructive programming program for the consciousness that has scrolled through that book? In this sense, the theme of the blind priest (Father) is not only appropriate, it still gives a tenuous hope that the Curse can be overcome. And that this is overcoming in getting rid of films (visualizations), the carriers of which are the priests. Well, the moment when the ring of the lid of the well of suffering is suddenly comprehended by the ring of the church bell - well, with the help of the...
Such an exegesis is expensive.
Only go if you've never seen a normal horror movie.
We went to the film with ' a little' suspicion of its failure and for good reason. . .
Where is the fear?
Initially, I assumed that the film would not be quite successful in terms of "Scaring the audience" & #39; that's how it turned out. So, I don’t know about the others, but I was very bored throughout the film, and fear only came up twice, but it was also the result of surprise. Maybe after watching a ton of horrors, I became less receptive. All scary moments are built classically: ' unexpected' sharp events, sinister music and the appearance of people behind her back when she turns away.
There is no exciting plot
Of course, there is a plot, but let’s say it does not capture the viewer very much. In my opinion, some of the opening moments in this film do not coincide with the classic 'The Sound'. A person who did not watch ' Call' will not understand such moments: ' How did this tape come about? By what forces was she created?', 'From whom is so much known about this girl?', ' What filming fragment is shown at the very end?' This may be explained in the following parts (if any). Or maybe I missed something, because the whole movie I honestly tried not to fall asleep. I thought the beginning was completely illogical. What sane person would expose himself so mad in front of a stranger? Well, let's say you can imagine such a situation, but I don't think you can say such a thing after two sentences said in your direction. It's the same thing to walk up to a person on the street and say, 'Hey, man, imagine I'm going to die soon. And I will die so that you and those around you will also die. Isn't that fun?' There was no logic at all.
The main and not very main characters
Here I will briefly present my thoughts.
So let's start from afar, with the biology teacher we've seen almost since the beginning of the film. Probably one of the few characters I liked, although many would disagree, but his actions even slipped logic. He really acquitted himself, not stupidly ' infecting ' people videos, he pursued a specific purpose. And to me, the end justifies the means. I can’t say anything about the actor’s play, as I don’t really pay attention to it at the first viewing.
There's only one thing I can say about this guy. Well, this character is not remembered, as do not try, the more the acting game leaves much to be desired.
Here we come to the most interesting - . The main character from the beginning left much to be desired, but by the end of the film I was already wholeheartedly hoping that she would be killed. There is no logic in most of his actions. Nothing you didn't really know about watching a video that would kill you? Why not? Many will justify this by self-sacrifice. But for me, self-sacrifice is only when there are no other options, and if there are, the chance of a successful final is very small. In general, she frankly infuriated me by the end, so my assessment is probably biased.
Generalization
I went to horrors to get scared, not to sit and fall asleep in a movie theater. The fact that the video will be sent as spam was expected, although most of the moments were expected. If that's what you want to see, look, but don't say you haven't been warned.
