I have to admit, I postponed watching this movie for a long time. I was repulsed by his name. I was afraid of excessive “deification” of the main character, excessive idealization of the theme of patriotism, but my fears were groundless.
The film attracts, there is something “real” in it, so skillfully bribing the viewer. It makes one believe that sometimes a person, thanks to an incomprehensible willpower, determination, love for his work and humanity, can truly be equated with a deity. People like Valery Kharlamov do the impossible and make us believe that a person can be above circumstances, above pain, above his own abilities. Thanks to their inner core, they write their names in history and become Legends.
Separately bribes the topic of the relationship between the coach and the team. I liked how Tarasov’s personality was shown, and I believe that Oleg Menshikov adequately coped with his role and skillfully played a bit of a cruel but wise mentor who loves and supports his team.
Also, the filmmakers paid an important role to the theme of patriotism. They did not glorify the then power, nor did they embellish its contribution to the 1972 victory. I would even say that it is no longer the idea of “love your country and respect its power”, but “love your land and respect the people who live near you”. Sometimes it seems to me that this kind of patriotism is missing.
My verdict, even if you are not a fan of hockey and sports in general, watch this movie. I think you'll like it.
It was a match that was saturated not so much with sport as with politics. It was a match the night before we were laughed in the face because the vaunted Canadian machine was going to crush us without noticing. It was a war on ice, a battle for the honor of a beloved country. And we proved that no one dares to doubt the strength of the Russian spirit.
This is the theme and idea of the film, made 40 years after that wonderful difficult time in which such great people as Valery Kharlamov and Anatoly Tarasov lived. Einstein was raving about science, Mozart was sick with music, Lev Yashin did not imagine a day without football, and the legendary Kharlamov and no less outstanding Tarasov “diagnosis” in life was hockey. And Danila Kozlovsky, paired with Oleg Menshikov, who had the honor to play these people, managed to convey to the viewer not only the meaning of the life of the famous player and coach, but also to return, at least for a couple of hours, that bright era of the USSR, when patriotism was more expensive than one with six zero dollars, and the persistence of the Soviet athlete knew no boundaries.
Danila Kozlovsky is good from film to film, it does not speak only lazy. And the fact of his excessive demand now does not give reason to doubt this, so I will leave him alone in my review, and note the excellent performance of Oleg Menshikov. Tarasov, both in life and in his performance, is not even a coach, he is a mentor in life, a person who breaks all our “can’t” and drives, drives forward! His simple phrase “You don’t hurt!”, said with the right intonation, contains more motivation than a bunch of modern abstruse articles on the alleged “psychology”. Sometimes such a person is missing in life. Personally, this image is firmly embedded in my memory.
Much has been said that in the film there are many inconsistencies and inconsistencies with real events from the biography of Kharlamov. Take the accident. It actually happened 4 years after the game. But every film is a drama, and the creators of the picture just need to constantly drive the hero into the drama. And what can be more empathetic than the fact that such a vital match could be the last of a hockey player's career because of a recently broken leg? And the fact that in addition to everything he hits a club on the sore leg of the Canadian striker, although, again, it actually happened not in the first, but in the sixth game of the super series. It would be different if both events were invented. And so, a great injection of drama in the climax, not changing the idea of the film. In addition, they say, they say that in the 72nd match was shown in the recording the next day, and not live, as in the film. And what, didn’t you want to cheer for Kharlamov and the guys along with his parents, single Tarasov, players and coach of Zvezda from the glorious city of Chebarkul or a Spanish uncle?
Speaking of Spain. In the picture there is such a rare technique as a system of images. Bulls in the beginning are associated with the red mad Canadian killers on the ice in the climax, and Kharlamov, like his uncle, masterfully pacifies them.
Bottom line: an unrealistically motivating film that sowed in my memory the brief, but sometimes necessary words of the legendary coach, remembering which, you find the will to move mountains when necessary.
Added the film to the collection 30 minutes after viewing. Thank you.
Legend number 17 as an example of a good sports drama, but...
To be honest, Legend 17 is one of my favorite movies. Firstly, a good plot and dynamically filmed hockey scenes, secondly, a good performance of actors, even episodic roles are played by such artists as Roman Madianov, Boris Shcherbakov, Vladimir Menshov and others, and thirdly, Nikolai Lebedev’s good directorship. But there's one "but"...
Despite all its advantages, the tape is simply full of gross perversions and inconsistencies, in a word, the life of the great hockey player was turned upside down. For some reason Kharlamov was involved in an accident in 1972, right before the super series with Canada, not after. Especially struck the moment in Chebarkul, where the local hockey players are like some revelers-buldygs. In the biography of Kharlamov written by Maxim Makarychev, there is evidence of Valery's friend - defender Alexander Gusev, in which the latter is outraged by these episodes from Chebarkul. Well, when they wake up with girls. Plus the episode with the "hazing" of local old-timers. In my opinion, the players were not spoiled by money or fame. We hit two more minuses. The first match of Canada-USSR was shown in the recording the next day, at ten in the morning, and not in a live broadcast. And Bobby Clark injured Kharlamov, not in the first but in the fifth match of the super series. That is, already in Moscow.
Another big drawback I would note is how the love line is shown. Extremely toothless, primitive to pain. In the film “Valery Kharlamov: extra time”, although there was a small budget, but everything was shown much more realistically.
Now let’s look at the merits of the film. First, actors. Danila Kozlovsky probably played the best (at least for now) role in his career. He gave 100 percent as Valery Borisovich Kharlamov. As for Oleg Menshikov, who played the great coach Anatoly Tarasov, he left a double impression. On the one hand, he was wonderfully reincarnated, and on the other he managed to convey his character. This was recognized by the daughter of Anatoly Vladimirovich, the legend herself during the life of Tatiana Anatolyevna. I think these words are expensive.
In addition to the aforementioned Shcherbakov, Madianov, Menshov, who played well in their episodic roles, I note Valentin Smirnitsky, our Portos, who played the head of state sports.
If we touch on the moment of the removal of Tarasov, then everything is not quite shown here, since it was in reality. The match in which Tarasov took the team off the ice took place in 1969. And with Spartak played CSKA, not the USSR team. Comrade writers, learn the matchmaking! But the reason for leaving the ice, as in the movie, was described accurately.
Secondly, the scenes of hockey matches are perfectly shown. Beautiful picture, incredible dynamism of hockey scenes.
And in conclusion, I will note that even despite the writers’ mistakes, the movie turned out to be 100. Against the background of such consumer goods as “Bitter!” and “Hitler, kaput”, such tapes as “Legend number 17” are simply necessary for the memory of people like Valery Kharlamov.
P.S. I hope the film about Lev Yashin, which will be released next year, will not be worse than Legend. And I hope the writers' mistakes bypass him.

Although there are discrepancies with Kharlamov’s biography in this picture, the general message is identical with his life. This is the only film, after watching which in the cinema we immediately bought tickets to the eldest sons and invited them to go the next day.
Stunning acting, incredibly motivating film that awakens the best feelings. It looks on one breath, causes involuntary tears of empathy and pride for the heroes, leaves satisfaction after watching. A movie worth watching with the whole family. Especially if you have children.
Shot very high quality, captivating from the first minutes, maintains increasing tension throughout the viewing. In my opinion, this is the best domestic film made since the collapse of the USSR.
I definitely recommend it.
It took a long time to review the film. I was looking for a movie that would make a review not with my head, but with my heart. A film that will leave a lasting impression is not special effects, not graphics, not a huge budget, but the play of actors, script and directing.
Such a film, unexpectedly, was “Legend No. 17”.
About the release of which I knew, but did not hurry to see it, because the efforts of my father to instill in me a love of hockey, were unsuccessful. I recently took time to watch this movie. It left a very strong impression.
In my opinion, this film is not about sports, as it would seem, it is a film about love, about life, about character.
The director has fulfilled his task - the film looks on one breath, the viewer begins to worry about the heroes of the film.
Acting at a high level, but I want to highlight Oleg Menshikov, who played Anatoly Tarasov. This is amazing!
In my opinion, the best and speaks for itself, the assessment is that you want to see the film again. So this film I want to watch more and more, which means that the efforts of people who created this wonderful film is not in vain.
The audience for this film is immense, for example, young athletes, but just people who are faced with life choices.
This film motivates: “You have to live and make a choice every day”, “It’s up to you whether you can or can’t”, “You don’t hurt!”, etc.
I highly recommend watching Legend 17, get motivated!
The film that for the first time in years made me finally write a review
This biographical film is one of those cases where the film history is as interesting (in places even more interesting) and exciting as a similar real story.
It’s one of those movies that makes you pause for a moment, ask yourself questions like what I want out of life, who I want to be, what I came into the world for, and what I’m doing to achieve my goal. And when you clearly know what you want from this world and in particular from your life, then the path, even the most difficult, does not seem as terrible as it once seemed, and in the end the path becomes more important than the end.
Excellent directorial and camera work, especially great shot the scene of the last match, which despite the fact that a little long, everything looks exactly the same dichany. It feels like you are watching a real match, about the entrance of which you have no idea.
Excellent cast, and of course, the most important thing is the insanely beautiful acting from Kozlovsky and Menshikov, who make it clear what a real athlete is and, more importantly, what a real man is who can be responsible for his actions and, if necessary, even for the actions of people close to him. . .
Usually sports biopics in my subjective opinion are often long, sometimes even boring, and then 2-plus hours flew quietly finally adding to my personal list of favorite films another miracle.
In a word, the film is a masterpiece...

For the pleasure I have received and for the good humor.
P.S. A real hockey player should see his, strangers and blonde in the third row.

I gave this film the highest rating. And he deserved it. I haven't seen a movie like that in a long time. And I certainly did not expect that the product of Russian cinema would hook me so much. After reading the rest of the reviews, I decided not to describe the pluses of the film. I would write the same thing, and why would I repeat it? I'll describe the minuses. There are not many of them, but there are.
The first, and the main minus. I don’t know how accurate the film is, but I found some American sports movies. Sometimes I felt like I was watching 'The Best of the Best' or even (sorry God) 'Karate Kid'. Things like the final exit despite the injury, old memories that help you win a point, you get used to it quickly. A couple dozen movies like this as a kid -- and I'm sitting there wondering, didn't know, whether it was written intentionally, or it actually happened. In any case, it looks impressive.
Second down. I do not understand the role of the heroine Svetlana Ivanova. More precisely, its significance for history. This secondary line could be cut, the plot would not have undergone major changes.
The rest is just an amazing movie. And it's not even about the plot. A whole galaxy of stars of the first magnitude, good special effects (they are also present), excellent camera work and very high-quality, beautiful installation.
Everybody watch! Such films are rarely released.
I watched Legend N17 and had mixed feelings. I don’t want to discount the film just because it’s made in Russia and we don’t have a lot of good movies. If they hadn’t pitched it as a movie about a real person, and cut out some dumb scenes and images, it would have been great. There's a minus for every plus. What is happening in the picture is presented as a “biography”, but in fact, the creators have greatly moved away from the real story, and everything mixed up, and this greatly spoils the impression (probably so simply they earned more money). A lot of mistakes with a real story.
There are also many "fantastic-mystical scenes". The beginning of the film is terribly infuriating - the scene with the bulls. Then - rope climbing in Chebarkul. Still incomprehensible games Tarasov with a stick and puddles at the end of the film. Canadians are portrayed as evil monkeys who chew gum and make evil faces. And I was also pissed off by the hospital lady who was always smearing her lipstick and acting like a lunatic. There are several such scenes, not all of them.
Most upset that the creators of the film distorted the story, and pass it off as the truth.
What I liked is the atmosphere and dynamics of the film, as well as the interest in hockey that appears after watching. The acting also pleased, especially the image of Oleg Menshikov.
I hope that many of the interest will revere how it really was, and this film will not be taken for pure water.
During the premiere of this film in cinemas, in 2013, I thought for a long time whether to go to another creation of domestic filmmakers? Since going to our tape is always a cat in a bag, and to part with blood-produced for the sake of negative emotions did not want. The film was smoked well, which also added to doubts, since good Russian films came out quietly, without noise, collected a meager box office and quietly retired.
Nevertheless, I decided to look at the artistic interpretation of the games of the legendary Soviet Union team, and separately Valery Borisovich Kharlamov (whom Daniel Kozlovsky played very successfully in this film). Although I have never been a fan of hockey and the era of the USSR has not caught, I have heard a lot about the glory days of our outstanding hockey players, whose honor our current team has not shamed.
More than two hours passed like an instant. I’ve never been impressed by any American blockbuster. The acting, the work of the operator, the dynamics of the action, the plot, the music all performed at the highest level. The picture plunged deeper into itself with each new frame.
Separately, I would like to note the acting game Oleg Menshikov, playing the role of the legendary coach Anatoly Vladimirovich Tarasov: the charge of emotions emanating from him during the performance of the role, leaked from the TV screen into the hall and covered with a wave of euphoria so that even goosebumps ran on the skin. Menshikov did not play this role, he lived it, passed through himself and gave the image of a man forging steel of the future machine of Soviet hockey.
Special praise deserves the setting of game moments. You really feel like you’re watching a real hockey game, you’re out there on the ice, you feel like your pulse is getting faster when the players go to the goal. It can be described infinitely... You just have to take a look.
At the end of the film, when all the passions on the field have subsided and now the credits begin, you feel that you still can not come off and the first few minutes you sit, scrolling through everything that happened on the screen in your head and realize: this film has sunk into your soul for a long time and you will review it again.
We see one of the best films of modern Russian cinema, and for 2013 it is the best. Not for a second I did not regret that I went to the cinema, because it is on the big screen with excellent acoustics that you can fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere of hockey excitement.

“Legend No. 17” is a film directed by Nikolai Lebedev. The film is based on real events and tells about the rise to fame of Soviet hockey player Valery Kharlamov and the first match of the USSR Super Series - Canada in 1972. The USSR hockey team with a crushing score of 7:3 defeated Canadian professionals from the NHL in the opening match of the epochal USSR-Canada Super Series. It wasn’t just a game, it was a battle for your country that turned the world’s view of hockey. The whole world knew him by the number 17. Valery Kharlamov, who scored 2 goals in that match, instantly soared to the top of fame. His dream came true – tenacity, sports talent and harsh lessons of the great coach Anatoly Tarasov made the “number 17” a legend of world hockey.
Atmosphere: First of all, everything is very beautifully shot, in visual terms, the film is simply worthy of applause, and the picture is made qualitatively according to all the rules of Hollywood cinema. An amazing symbiosis of a beautiful visual series and a very high-quality script. And prompted to write his unimportant review came across a negative review of one clearly “objective and adequate” critic. And the reviewer pedaled with the fact that the creators retreated from facts and historical events and put the film 1 point, and it just outraged me, and then it just became funny, but if you look at the biographical films, in most of them, the directors changed something in the biography of the hero (for example, the course of events, or scenes to betray the action and effect), but all this for the benefit of art and in order to preserve the artistic value of the picture. But “Legend No. 17” is the best film in my opinion in the history of Russian cinema. It’s unique because I don’t like hockey, and I have never been interested in this sport, but the picture has a very high artistic value for me. The main character of the film challenges everything and his entire biography is a continuous confrontation. There are problems in personal life, but the most important thing is to softly say a difficult relationship with the coach. Tarasov tries to make Kharlamov strong and “kill” in a good sense all human norms of emotional behavior and principles in order to leave him only thoughts about hockey and make him obsessed with these thoughts. And I want to note this is not just a standard and high-quality motivating film, but it can inspire directly young guys involved in hockey, and after watching the picture, a young hockey player can illuminate, but what if the coach demands from me very much not because he did not love, but rather that he places great hopes on me and strives to make me such a hero of the film, that is, the great Kharlamov. Danila Kozlovsky is brilliant, he was born for this role, and I can’t find any alternatives for this role. One of the few hopes in Russian cinema, and let this actor continue to please the Russian viewer with such high-quality roles and talented acting.
The result of “Legend No. 17” is the best film of Russian cinema, I still do not believe that it is absolutely without exaggeration a brilliant creation created by our filmmakers, everyone ceased to believe and considered our cinema long dead, but in the face of this masterpiece he gave signs of life and inspiring hope for the rise of Russian cinema. And I take off my hat and applaud standing by all the creators of this picture.

In memory of Valery Kharlamov and Anatoly Tarasov!
Legend N17 is designed to tell us about an outstanding Soviet athlete and, without a doubt, an outstanding Soviet coach. This is the best Russian film of 2013, but it is far from perfect.
It's based on a really strong story that I don't think should have been so adapted to the viewer. And this is not to mention that biographical blunders in the film are also enough.
"Legend..." disappointed more than pleased. This is due to the fact that it was difficult for me to believe what was happening, because it was filed too much in the forehead. Everything is chewed, elementary to a mind-blowing degree, formulaic and artificial. If those guys who played Canadians didn't make you disgusted, then you may have come to the wrong movie. If I am not mistaken, then a biography is a description of a person’s life using facts, and not a subjective reflection of the director’s thoughts about what the hero did, about the people around him. "Legend..." stepped on these terrible rakes. And they ruined everything. Showing and showing off knocked out any desire to believe. Oil in the fire poured a couple of fantastic scenes (Hanging on the ropes for example). There are certainly some very strong scenes in the film. But all this fades under the onslaught of disgusting visualization.
I don’t know about you, and I’m not a fan of this. I was hoping to see some serious drama that would make me think, motivate me to do things like Rocky, but I didn’t get anything. The only thing that the director is trying to convey to us is that Kharlamov is a god, Canadians are unbred and self-righteous cattle, and the Soviet hokey knows no equal.
Of the advantages, I want to highlight visual effects, an acceptable, but not the best game by Danila Kozlovsky, an excellent game by Oleg Menshikov, and a strong story by nature. That's all, alas.
Over. Dynamic hockey matches and strong dramatic scenes do not help "Legend N17" in the fight against the cliches of this genre, the display on the screen and the primitiveness of everything that happens. But the story of the Soviet hockey player and his life is quite interesting and can attract attention. You might like it.
Yeah, this is serious. This is not just “about nothing”, it is “about nothing” plus frank and aggressive nonsense.
The facts of Kharlamov’s biography and events in his personal life are so wildly mixed that even if you don’t really know anything about his life, you still involuntarily wonder: why all this and why it happens so absurdly?
I don’t understand: it seems that not so many years have passed since the early 70s – why then it was necessary to twist and mix so much real events, which can be read in any encyclopedic reference book? It didn't make any sense anyway. We wanted to emphasize that this film is not specifically about Kharlamov? What are the real names for?
But the most unpleasant thing is that in the film, except again poster Kharlamov, there is almost no one. So, some extras running around with incomprehensible lines. Well, could at least Tretyakov be allowed to say at least something ... no, can't you? a film only about Kharlamov?
But here on the coach, the authors of Tarasov laid out. Here's who did it. This is a contradictory personality, a dissident hero and a shaman in general. Just from another movie, your shaman. From a movie where a million torments, a thousand bloody gabney and all sorts of weird voodoo shit. What all this has to do with hockey and Kharlamov – I do not understand. (Moreover, Menshikov completely removes Kozlovsky from acting; this is not the “merit” of the authors, Menshikov is just a good actor and can portray a lot; another thing is, why is it? well, this is a question for the authors.) )
Yes, I respect biographical films: different, including completely absurd. But I do not respect when, under the guise of pretentious realism, blatant nonsense and babble are dragged onto the screen.
I’ve seen this movie twice, the sea of tears and the sea of tears. The tears are not from grief or longing, but from joy and admiration for how this truly remarkable film was made.
If there is a longing for the viewer in this film, it is only for that bright Soviet time, when people were different, brighter, more heroic, more aspirational, for whom the Motherland was more important than money and other honors.
If we talk about the plot, then it is fascinating, dynamic, interesting from the first frame. There is no extra pause for the viewer to have time to yawn. I didn't want to yawn. I wanted to eagerly listen to every word of the movie characters, to follow every gesture, so as not to miss something very important.
This film biography is interesting because it shows real people who were proud and proud of our great country, their names are inscribed in golden letters in the history of world hockey. The heroes of the film are presented without pathos, with lively emotions, with all their pros and cons. And the viewer accepts them as they are.
When it comes to acting, it is flawless. I want to applaud them and shout grateful “bravo” for the fact that they managed to show historical figures from the very recent past with such love and respect.
The cast is just on top in this movie! Special thanks to Danila Kozlovsky and Vladimir Menshov.
But still I would like to highlight the excellent game of Oleg Menshikov. Perhaps he got the most unusual and difficult hero - coach Anatoly Tarasov. Not many people could play such a person. And Oleg Menshikov brilliantly coped with another creative task.
This film should be watched by the younger generation, young athletes. And somehow involuntarily our contemporaries, hockey players lose in the eyes of their predecessors of that time. There is much to think about, to change your values and attitude to victory.

One of the rare films that can be liked and remembered for real, for a long time, seriously.
I don't like sports movies. I am not a fan of any sport. And certainly not a hockey fan. That’s why I put off watching this movie for so long, despite my best friend’s repeated offers to watch it.
The film exceeded all expectations, and everything is for the better.
This film is only genre-looking and only partially autobiographical. All this is just a means of saying more and more to the viewer. For example: “Only you decide what you want to be, small or adult, weak or strong.”
This is a film about the strength of the spirit and about self-education, about life choices and about conscience.
This is a strong, soulful film about life. He's emotional. This is a quality film, well-made.
All actors play well, there are almost no weaknesses. A film with humor, which, in some places, perhaps, not everyone will already understand.
There is philosophy, and understatement, and wisdom, and irony, and a brilliant transmission of reality almost “as is”, but in such a way as to highlight the author’s view, as if we look at ourselves and understand everything without words.
This is really, really, without drawing and advertising quirks, a film that can and should be watched by almost everyone.
This film has everything to become popular, as once Ryazanov’s films. If he didn’t, I think it was because now is not the time when everyone watches only one program.
I read reviews where people are outraged that some facts are not presented as they were. Let’s not forget that the film is fiction, not documentary. It is obvious that the authors knew the truth better than the indignant reviewers. And if we went to such receptions, then it was for what. So we wanted to say more, more expressively about the main thing - about the strength of the spirit, about respect for those who train seriously and devote their lives to sports.
After this film, I had some naive thoughts. But I won't be ashamed of them. Well, I'll share them. No matter what tricks go all sorts of cunning from politics, sport always gives a chance to show who is worth what. If, of course, it is an honest sport. Of course, there were sad thoughts about how much dirt and abuse there is in sport.
And one more. There is talk that Vladimir Putin has contributed to the revival of pride in Russia and, at the same time, the revival of the idea of peaceful coexistence of a friendly family of many nationalities that make up Russia. If that’s true, then it’s a low-key.
I would highly recommend paying attention to the clearly traceable philosophical line about team play. This is felt at the very beginning, in the first conversation coach Tarasov “probed” Kharlamov on this score. And then he constantly stressed the importance of team play. This was manifested most vividly in the episode where he forced the entire national team to ride in circles, stopping them with shouts of “Spartak, stand!”, “CSKA, stand!” – until they understood why – there was no need to stop and fall, they are no longer Spartak and CSKA, they are one team, the national team of the USSR. It is this understanding that people have always, at all times, been lacking, and Russia is lacking now. That’s the problem: fools, thieves and traitors.
And yet, by the way, it was the team (which Kharlamov managed to “ignite” with his spirit) that stood up for him at a difficult moment. From this position, many episodes of the film acquire a deeper meaning.
Looking at such films, I express my sincere gratitude, admiration, gratitude to everyone who was able to inspire, make such a film, bring it to mind.
Great cast, great ideas.
There is a very lack of films that are above the system, which are about the vital, about the soul, about the strength of the spirit, about the will to live, about beauty and strength, about personalities who could, who have something to learn from.
Professionals
Judge by crime
No boxing counts, no evil muzzle.
And with them for twenty years.
Who could compete -
How does a student fight with a selected scum?
The ice rink absorbs the sweat, pain and anger of several dozen young guys gathered by the famous hockey coach Anatoly Tarasov from all over the Soviet Union. The most talented of them, Valery Kharlamov takes the course of a young fighter in the form of demonstrative ignorance and sitting alone on the podium. This is a tough method of educating the character of Oleg Menshikov, who set a lifelong goal - to create the most invincible team in the world despite the Canadian power and stubbornness of the party leadership. And in a few years, the number 17 in the hockey world will only be associated with one person.
Already in the new century about Valeria Kharlamov was made more than one film. But the documentary “Ice bullfight Valery Kharlamov” and artistic “Valery Kharlamov”. Additional time with Chadov and Kharatyan will now be remembered casually, to the fullness of the overall picture, for they were confidently ousted by the work of Nikolai Lebedev (Star, Volkodav, Apostle), Legend N17. The double visual success, along with the film about the Uzbek tours of Vladimir Vysotsky, seems to have determined the main vector of development of high-budget mass domestic cinema - the biography of remarkable people. Lev Yashin, Yuri Gagarin, Ivan Poddubny - thousands of heroes, a wide field, sow and harvest. Especially if the bins have the necessary amount of dirty green dollar equivalent and learned by heart the Hollywood mantras of creating a successful movie.
It is according to the Western canons of sports cinema that a film about a Russian hockey player with Spanish roots was created. Promising actor Danila Kozlovsky, who proved himself in “We are from the future” and “Duchless”, the guest star is less and less removed by Oleg Menshikov, not for a moment slowing down the pace of the story with local peaks and the idea intertwined around the core to go to his victory in spite of pain and circumstances. Million dollar baby, Rocky, Maurice Richard, need to be emphasized. Skillfully placed the pawns of the conflict – here is the “deputy minister in the USSR” Vladimir Menshov showers Valeria with benefits in exchange for future betrayal, here is the surgeon with vampire lips on the face of Nina Usatova does not promise full recovery from fragmented fractures. The picturesque allusions of the eternal bullfight. Tempering of character in metallurgical Chebarkul and on the embrasure of hockey gates. A modest beauty with predictable problems in her personal life. Love for family. Love for the coach. Love for the Motherland. The final climax with blood on the ice and a rubber puck plunging into the net.
And on the other hand, how to make the audience, raised on Batman flights and expeditions Sami-know-who, admire the film. What percentage of the audience saw Kharlamov play live or on the black and white screens of Records and Horizons, to whom the names of Ragulin or Bobrov say anything? That's it. Therefore, the cunning of critics who extoll the story of the boxer from Clint Eastwood and condescendingly applauding the creators of Legend for using the same techniques, I consider inappropriate. Since far from hockey after watching lit the desire with a rose in his hands to come to the stands for the match of the national team or the local “Star”, this is an unambiguous success. And let Kozlovsky too glamorous, and Svetlana Ivanova, playing the girl of the main character, is stencil. The nerve of Soviet hockey was palpable and palpable.
Hairy gums brazenly chew gum and knock out the teeth of the Ceeskov boys. The cowardly leader of the team with a tearing voice demands not to lose too badly. But millions of people, from a drunk in a monkey house to a father rattling an extinct cigarette, are desperate to win. Our victory. And Valery Kharlamov makes the arrogant Montrealers in complete silence applaud the hockey players who are staggering from incredible efforts in sweaters with the letters of the USSR on their chests. Four decades have passed since then. We have forgotten these legendary games. The world remembers.
I didn’t watch this movie for a long time, despite the high ratings. I don’t like sports blockbusters because of their predictability: a little personal life of heroes is not an easy way to success – triumph. This scheme runs from Rocky to Cars.
Everything seems to be standard in Legend. Ahn no. These are our heroes and our victories. The director managed to show not only the success of Kharlamov, Tarasov and the Russian team, but also the general strength of the spirit of Soviet sports.
Indicative is the episode where the main character is offered millions of fees for the transition to the Canadian national team. Modern teenagers will say, “These are the money!” And also the prospect of getting out of the "owl". The director managed to convincingly show that to be a national hero, to realize the dream of the whole country as part of the team for Kharlamov is a priority than to be a highly paid traitor.
The directing job is just great. Action, modern techniques of shooting, muted brightness of colors, psychologically verified episodes - everything deserves separate discussion and encouragement.
I would like to add a special thank you for my face. Decent, simple Soviet faces of the guys. There are a lot of films about those times. It turns out as in that dialogue from the “Pokrovsky Gate”: “Ours play foreign life.” - Yes. Art is in great debt.” Like the interiors of those times, and costumes. And the sexy, glamorously retouched faces of the heroes, who cannot even smile sincerely, spoil everything. So, Lebedev managed to pick up such actors, led by D. Kozlovsky, that there is a complete immersion in the topic. Just a striking contrast between "ours" and Canadians.
Men, as always, are at a height (and above). Kozlovsky is wonderful. I would like to see the same strong roles for Danilo in modern cinema.

After the match of the national team of the Soviet Union on hockey against the national team of Canada in 1972, our outstanding hockey player at number 17 became a symbol of victory not only in sports, but the victory of a great country. His extraordinary talent as an athlete inspired many to defend the honor and dignity of his homeland. However, it would always be interesting to know the history of Valery Kharlamov’s ascent to the top of world sports. This story was reflected in a truly worthy film by Nikolai Lebedev “Legend N17”.
Synopsis Moscow, 1967. Young, but already moderately talented hockey player Valery Kharlamov dreams of playing in a big sport. Suddenly, he and his friend Alexander Gusev received an offer from the legendary coach Anatoly Tarasov, finally, to become members of CSKA, but it deserves. From that moment on, the N17 Legend will begin its ascent to ultimately protect the honor and dignity of our country during a match in 1972.
Game of actors The film in its cast is not just stars, but titans of modern domestic cinema such as Danila Kozlovsky, Oleg Menshikov, Vladimir Menshov, Boris Shcherbakov, Daria Ekamasova, etc. First of all, of course, I would like to say about Danil Kozlovsky, who resurrected the idol of millions of fans of Soviet and Russian hockey, a brave and stubborn man for whom hockey is not just a physical exercise, but a whole battle. I cannot remain silent about the brilliant performance of Oleg Menshikov, who embodied the image of a tough but wise coach Anatoly Tarasov, who made athletes strong people not only physically but also spiritually. I really liked the secondary role of Vladimir Menshov, a party figure for whom politics stood above the soul. Finally, I want to say a few words about the Spanish actress Alejandra Grepi, who played the mother of Valery Kharlamov, who was deeply worried about her son and was ready to do anything for his happiness.
Directorship Another reason Legend N17 differs from many other domestic films is its directing. Nikolai Lebedev, apparently, initially set himself the task of making a really good movie that is not just pleasant to watch or that you can safely show abroad, but that movie that you are really proud of. Lebedev is one of those rare examples when a director literally feels what he has to shoot. As a result, we have a powerful and vivid sports drama about how a person should believe in himself and, overcoming all difficulties, suffering unbearable agony, achieves the desired goal. Of the characteristic features of the film, it is worth highlighting its tense atmosphere, which is gradually filled with adrenaline. So, the episode with the final match was so rich in its rampage that you really jump from the spot.
Scenario The first thing to note is that Legend N17 is not a biopic. Yes, the plot of the film touches on one of the brightest or even key moments in the life of Valery Kharlamov. Although there is an introductory scene from the hockey player’s childhood, when he almost died under the hooves of bulls in Spain, the writers did not make their installation to show the viewer exactly what happened, but rather to show how it happened. The creators focus on Kharlamov’s training at Tarasov, which may seem cruel, rude, sadistic, we together with the hero can hate Tarasov, but it is the match with Canada that proves that all these lessons only brought up in Kharlamov his resilience, his soul, his strength, which helped him to achieve a great victory.
"Legend N17" is perhaps the first film in my memory in which all its elements are perfect in themselves. So with the work of the operator, which, surprisingly, was not nominated for the Golden Eagle, because the Polish cameraman Irek Hartovich picked up an interesting picture for the film, which together gave the world such a magnificent visual cinema. The camera literally floats over the characters, circles them from all sides, thereby allowing the viewer to plunge into the match himself, even feel the player.
Installation Of the technical aspects of the film, I would like to highlight the editing, since it also played an important role in building the overall atmosphere of the film. In this paragraph, it is necessary to mention scenes in which Valery Kharlamov during the match recalled second episodes from his childhood, which found analogies in the present. It is the same in the brief inserts with the training of Anatoly Tarasov, when the hero finally understands why the coach used such strange methods.
"Legend N17" - in my opinion, the movie that everyone should see, because one of those few examples of domestic cinematography, when you are really happy and proud of what you just saw. Therefore, I highly recommend this picture to view.
The film will not be properly received by all viewers. This is the lot of all highly artistic genius paintings. And this film is really a professional creation, which does not even allow you to compare it with the overwhelming number of Russian crafts.
For the first forty minutes, I don’t know what’s going on. I don't understand the plot. And only then does it become clear what the film is about.
And to understand and feel to the end it will understand only those who have known the USSR.
For whom the scale of values of that time is not just a material for study and habitual censure, but also something organic than you can live, what lived hundreds of millions of people for a long time. And that has a certain power, so great that not everyone can appreciate it and respect it.
In addition to such global messages, the film is woven from many other fundamental components, such as script, directing, acting and camera work.
I could not even imagine how one could write such a coherent, absolutely adequate and rather harmonious script for such a powerful film. But there's almost nothing to complain about. The film does not spin too quickly, but then it is impossible to break away from it. Everything looks on one breath, and by the end of the film, the outrage, multiplied by the love for the topic that has long been ill, only multiplies and turns the soul inside out.
The themes of the main characters are very much revealed. Not in detail, no, it wasn't necessary, but it was dug very deep and a box of pandora was excavated. The film, in fact, is about three heroes of our time - Tarasov, Kharlamov and hockey of the USSR, what made the world tremble and allowed hundreds of millions of people in the USSR to live a full life, even sitting in the kitchen in their narrow hopeless world. In the USSR, despite all its shortcomings, there was a certain ground for the use of talents and volitional efforts. I don’t think there are more in Russia now. And this willpower, strength of character are the main characters of this film.
It was only after this film that I learned that Kharlamov was half Spanish. The movie doesn't say a word about it. But as shown. After that, the Russians and Spaniards simply became sister nations. Without the slightest humiliation of any of them, only mutual respect and mutual admiration for beauty.
Good direction should not be noticeable. I mean, there shouldn't be any complaints about her. It is a means of embodying an artistic plan authentically in a video sound series. I do not know who and how exactly ruled the production process, but if this is entirely the merit of Lebedev, then I feel a certain hope about the film “Crew” being shot at this moment. There are no complaints about Legend N17. It's done with the soul.
Now for acting. It was required here only from two performers - from Kozlovsky and Menshikov. After watching the film, it becomes clear that the main character here is definitely Tarasov. And the performer of the main role, respectively, is Oleg Menshikov. For this, Mikhalkov released him from slavery to star in this film, even at the cost of including his person in the credits, but this only emphasized his fading greatness. For this role of Menshikov in my opinion is generally the best in his already limitlessly talented career. Thank you, Oleg Yevgenyevich, for your wonderful role. Truly a monument not made with hands.
Kozlovsky is definitely good, as always photogenic, did a thorough job, spent a lot of time on skates and with a stick in his hand and created a solid image.
In fact, the main character of the film is a sport, and the sport in which a coward does not play, and the price of this sport in the film is determined quite convincingly.
Operator work in general deserves attention. There were many cameras, the quality of the picture is beyond praise, a lot of short episodes. Along with camera and installation work, everything is very decent, very laborious and flawlessly executed. Thank you.
Legend N17 is definitely the professional result of its talented creators, all without exception. A film through time about the immortal values that generate human dedication and dedication that forever remain in human hearts and make them beat.
In American culture, sports films are a certain cultural stratum, but I did not find anything comparable in historical value and emotional intensity. I guess that’s right, I’m not an American.

I'll tell you right away, I'm not interested in hockey. I have never watched a single match. But the movie was interesting when I saw the trailer. I couldn’t go to the movies, but as soon as the movie came out in good quality, I watched it and appreciated it. This film has restored my faith in Russian cinema.
The plot tells about the formation of Valery Kharlamov as a hockey player of the Soviet Union national team, his relationship with coach Anatoly Tarasov, and of course about the 1972 Russia-Canada super series.
That's true. When I saw this film, I felt proud of our cinema – how well this film was made. You can see that it was filmed by people who are actually interested in filming it, and not purely for the sake of money. The acting is simply delightful - I saw little of Danil Kozlovsky in the movies. I think it’s only in We’re from the Future and The Spy, but he’s a good actor. That's where he put his best. He did not play Kharlamov - he became Kharlamov. Of course, his external similarity with the hockey player helped him in this, but how he conveyed all his feelings and emotions. Bravo! Hat off. No worse than Oleg Menshikov played the role of Tarasov. He was especially impressed at the end, when Tarasov goes into the courtyard during the match and begins to reproduce the scheme of the game in his imagination, and the phone conversation after the match with the Canadians. A really great actor, though before that and starred in the squalid tired of the sun 2, although there are many good actors starred, so it is better to just forget this movie as a terrible dream. It is impossible not to remember Vladimir Menshov, who played the curator Balashov. He's got a funny role.
Also one of the advantages of the film is the camera work. You could see it from the trailer. The matches are great and the bull scene at the beginning of the film is just 10 out of 10. You can also note the excellent music of Eduard Artemyev.
Oh, I forgot to add that surprisingly, this picture has few historical inaccuracies. Very often, biopics suffer from this disease and it is good that she bypassed this.
You can endlessly paint the merits of this film, because I have not found flaws for myself. And as I said at the beginning of the review, this film has brought back my faith in our cinema. It is a shame that the Oscar was not sent to Legend and Stalingrad. I think she had a better chance of getting the statue. But what happened is what happened.
A stunning and exciting story really happened in the 60-70s. Valery Kharlamov, the most outstanding hockey player of the USSR, who achieved everything himself, everything that any hockey player or athlete can only dream of. The path was given to Kharlamov very difficult, a huge amount of misunderstanding, disappointment every minute pursued him at the beginning of his hockey career.
Only thanks to his perseverance and zeal was able to attract the attention of the great coach Tarasov. Kharlamov will have to endure all the hardships of non-standard coaching, and being on the brink of failure, do not give up.
Tarasov did not treat Kharlamov like everyone else, he meant much more to him, wanting to make stronger, daily brought the hockey player to the boiling point. Not everyone approved of such methods of education, but even faced with the Soviet regime, he will not lose control of the team, and respect Kharlamov.
Tarasov tries to convey the essence of Kharlamov, You need to live not one goal, but your own business that you love.
I believe that this is the best film in the history of Russia and the USSR, a stunning script, carefully selected facts from the life of Kharlamov and Tarasov, the work of operators, editors, sound engineers and the entire film crew will not be bored. The work of the director Nikolai Lebedev is my favorite not only domestic film, but also among all foreign ones - there are no analogues. The only film that would not be ashamed to show in Hollywood.
Legend 17 is a film about the greatest state and the most purposeful people. History and people to be proud of. A well-chosen cast would have played the role of Kharlamov, as well as Danila Kozlovsky. Separately, I want to highlight the amazing actor Oleg Menshikov, perfectly and incredibly interesting played the role of coach Tarasov.
There is no film in Russia that would be as interesting to watch, to watch and to be proud of their country. The country in which, it turns out, it is possible to make a stunning film and review each time, experience new emotions.
It is a pity that such an outstanding person as Valery Kharlamov died so early, having lived only 33 years, but having achieved as much as any other, would not have been enough for a lifetime.
The film is about two wonderful people who led their country to victory, at any cost. The film is about a great hockey player, and a coach who put his whole soul into his student.

As a representative of the younger generation, I can say with all responsibility that this film deserves your attention.
The plot of the film, based on real events and seasoned with colors (as befits a good film), will please every true patriot of Russia. After all, this story talks about Valeria Kharlamov - a legend of Russian hockey. It is known by many and even those who are not interested in sports in general. This responsible role was played by Danila Kozlovsky (who I remember in the film Spiritless) and he approached this role as best as possible.
The film is aimed at cultivating a sense of patriotism in the young generation and copes with this task, because it shows our great country Russia with a real Russian peasant and the strength of the Russian spirit from the best side.
Personally, after watching, I wanted to get skates, take a club and go play hockey. This feeling of euphoria of the film I do not often.
That is, of course, I was aware that there is such a sport in which they chase the puck with a stick in helmets, “muds,” but I did not care about the whole topic. But, having plunged into the atmosphere of Soviet sports, in which there were really great masters of their craft, I was visited by pride. From head to toe. Patriotic pride, as for hockey players back in 1972, and for domestic cinema. It’s just joyful that Russian filmmakers at least for a minute were distracted from stupid remakes and clutters for American blockbusters, and shot just Russian cinema: with a Russian soul, with a Russian character and color. Whatever you say, it's expensive.
Surprisingly, the biopic about Valeria Kharlamov came out as a whole and beautiful sports drama. There is something to be surprised about here, since everyone is aware of the cinematic state in this country. And here is a sports drama-biography, before which there were awkward ( "Affectionate May") and nauseating ( "Vysotsky". Thank you so much for trying to make a biopic. And the drama, which settles nostalgia for the real and sincere Soviet cinema (from the latest Russian "Geographer Globe propyl" also revived old traditions). So where does this nostalgia come from? Because the movie is soulful. Everything in the movie is just right. It’s amazing how hard it is to sit down and criticize the film. Tongue's not up. Everything is in the right proportion: the romantic line, hockey affairs, and relations with the mentor. And the family is discharged as best as possible. The film does not pretend to the deepest philosophical meanings and subsenses, but at the same time it is an ideal version of a biographical tape - simple, chronological, dynamic. Simple and tasteful. The two-hour movie looks in one breath. I regretted not going to the movies when he was in theaters. These emotions are definitely worth the big screen.
Returning to the topic of hockey, I want to say that the sport is told easily and with great respect. Available for any viewer: for a hockey fan, and for a slope like me: Importantly for any sports drama, Legend 17 is not only atmospheric but also incredibly motivating. Do you think that all these stories of great personalities with strong character are not designed for each viewer to appreciate and love his work enough to fight in it and for him? An-Net. You can't take the hockey world literally. Even if you are not involved in sports, you can learn a lot from ambitious athletes. They are ready to bite at their throats to protect their family. It’s great to watch this movie and be inspired.
The picture is shot colorfully, and only now you understand where this nostalgia and association with the brilliant Soviet cinema comes from. It's the '70s! And all the clothes, the kinds of cities (large and provincial), hairstyles immerse us in a time that many people now miss, and I only know from movies. And the movie is kind, not at all aggressive, just like then. Warm. It's nice to be here.
Danila Kozlovsky and Oleg Menshikov are an excellent film duo, symbolizing the past and future of Russian cinema. Kozlovsky clearly with potential, he was still visible in Dukhless, and Menshikov was a master. As I remember yesterday, he, a young boy in Pokrovsky Gate, is as blush as Kozlovsky is now in the role of Kharlamov. The succession of generations is progress.
The stunningly exciting scenes of hockey matches make the fans of the sport more and more aware of the feelings they root for their teams. You feel an incredible unity, as if with your whole country. I’ve never been a fan of football, hockey or tennis, nothing. But at times like this, you realize it's not just that. The country needs such incentives, because it raises the national spirit. I used to think it only made sense to play sports, not watch them. And directly in the film it is impossible not to worry about the outcome of matches. And the right amount of voltage, and just removed in detail. And the heroes are again wonderful, they want to empathize.
Legend 17 is a painting you believe in and a painting you learn to believe in yourself and what you do. When you have a strong personality, uncompromising and life-loving, you involuntarily admire and want to learn to be the same. A small segment of the life of the great Soviet hockey player Valery Kharlamov was enough for long hours of admiration and inspiration. And it may be only part of life, but it is unrealistically exciting. And yes, I am proud that my grandmother is Russian.

I did not dare to see this picture for a long time because I was afraid to be disappointed. I liked the positive reviews and the high rating and I really didn’t want to share this enthusiasm. But I did not regret watching it, the film strengthened its position. It is very rare that I watch a film from and before, without pause, distraction to other classes and look at the remaining time until the end of the film.
What's really undeniable is the acting. Everyone in their place, neither give nor take. Bravo. The production and music itself is thus blowing the USSR. The atmosphere is transmitted, in my opinion.
I have no idea or attitude to sports and hockey in particular, so I will not judge any components from this point of view. I just enjoyed an interesting story.
Nothing to criticize, just a good movie. Even a tear came out of me. Worthy
I will immediately say that I do not understand hockey, I watch sports dramas infrequently, but it would be strange to pass by this film - it is about a famous athlete, and besides, they try to see the revival of Russian cinema here. I looked at it, it didn’t seem like a masterpiece, I answered my husband’s questions at home, the film began to look even weaker. First question: Did you talk about Tretyakov? - Not a word at all! So, someone was hanging out in goal during the famous match. - Was it about Yakushev? - No, just about "Guss" (Gussev). - Best friend Valery Vasiliev? - Nothing! The emphasis is shifted to the main character so much that the rest are some shadows, but this is a team game.
My husband sang “A coward doesn’t play hockey” and then I felt just deprived – there was no song, even a hint of it was not, but we come from the USSR, we all knew it. And “Professionals – salary in bulk” Vysotsky – also was not!
Advertising convinced that this picture about the star of Soviet hockey, but not a free fantasy on the topic, and biography. It is clear that the film is from a special genre of “patriotic cinema”. The word “patriotism” does not bother me, I know the name Kharlamov since childhood, was ready to ignore the shortcomings of the script, admire Menshikov, cry purely in a feminine way. Alas, I was given almost no reason for this. I read the reviews, it seems that we watched different films. The script is a kind of hodgepodge of facts, besides, the film ends at the height of Valeria’s career, the director’s work is not particularly memorable, the music for the patriotic rise does not work. There is nothing left to look at the actors.
Menshikov expectedly liked, although there is a nuance: due to the fact that he type is not very suitable, at the beginning of the film too visible attempt to add coolness to the hero. But his performance during that famous match got me hooked. Such a special strong bond of the athlete with the coach, without it, probably nowhere.
I didn’t know anything about the lead actor before, and I can’t say that his performance surprised me. In my opinion, he just “held his face” trying to be similar, and when these efforts are noticeable, they do not convince. The behavior of Valera’s mother at the very beginning is false, it is unpleasant to watch (does the mother react to the danger to her child’s life?), and then neither her play nor her father was impressed. The love line is not remembered, half-naked bodies in the frame appear, but do not impress and cut off some of the potential viewers - the age limit of 6+ looks wild.
The bulls in Spain were clearly just lying, for red. Little Valery was left alone with an angry bull and did not flinch? Beautiful and scary, but the scene itself looks long. Want to show the origin of Kharlamov (his mother is Spanish) and strength of spirit? Nonsense turned out, I do not believe, and the bulls are too deliberately shown - huge beasts almost all over the screen. Later it becomes clear why they were needed: in the match, the Canadians are shown about the same monsters.
The episode with the factory pipes, which drew the attention of many viewers, also looks far-fetched: why climb to such heights to talk to a friend? Show me your spirit again? Such deliberateness only repels, gives parody. It would be better to mention his poor health - after angina, even a heart defect was put, and his father took him to the hockey section, and managed to win the diagnosis. Yes, and the first crash was in 1976, not just before the 1972 Super Series. What's wrong with that? Does Kharlamov have little merit that it is necessary to deliberately put pressure on the psyche of the audience?
In the film, there are many obvious jokes that add unnecessary comedy, for some reason they did not please me: communication through the balcony, the coach’s instruction in the most “appropriate” place, how Soviet people watched the broadcast, while this broadcast was not in principle due to the difference in time zones.
The film not only freely shuffled the facts of Valery’s life, but also did not reveal his relationships with loved ones: parents, a beloved girl are perceived rather as an extra. The interaction with the coach, who played a very important role in his life, is also not convincing. When viewing, there is a feeling that Tarasov just gnawed Kharlamov, and he endured everything, he really wanted to play. Bobrov is generally shown as a shadow who accidentally received such a wonderful command, unfairly taken from Tarasov. It was only after the film that I found out that he was a great coach.
The ending of the film was disappointing: after that match, there was nothing else. We did not learn anything about the further achievements of the main character, because of which he became a legend. And the music on the credits is dreary - like, hockey is dead? I didn’t feel a sense of patriotism at the end. I think that in the genre of biography so distort the facts is simply indecent. The cute face of the main character, Oleg Menshikov - a favorite of women, caricature situations and video cameras inserted into the pucks - is clearly not enough for a strong sports drama. I know the audience clapped on the credits. But, I think, they slammed Kharlamov, the great hockey player, whom they saw in this picture not because, but despite the efforts of the creators, because of their nostalgia for the USSR, a fervent desire to see the sports victories of our country.
Sports dramas are the prerogative of American cinema, there is no doubt that they ate the dog. Their paintings come out, for the most part, template, aimed at squeezing tears. It would seem that the Russians will be able to squeeze out of this genre, the modern viewer has already seen everything: films about gymnasts, football players, baseball players, basketball players, boxers – there are hundreds of them. And no, Nikolai Lebedev was able to make a worthy film, albeit slightly adapted to the Western audience. I have never been particularly interested in hockey. Perhaps, that interest in hockey I woke up not after watching this picture, and after the victory of our team at the world championship, but the film only warmed it up.
Legend N17 is a biographical film about the formation of the famous Soviet hockey player Valery Kharlamov. The main roles in the film were performed by Danila Kozlovsky and Oleg Menshikov, two of my favorite actors. In addition, one of the main roles in the film was performed by Vladimir Menshov. The heroes of Menshikov and Menshov - Anatoly Tarasov and Balashov - at first you hate the first and imbue yourself with sympathy for the second, but then everything falls into place.
I heard about this film, I knew that it is considered almost the best Russian creation, but I did not want to watch it myself. One day, it was a Saturday, I couldn’t find anything to do, there was no internet, no books, I dug up an old flash drive, decided to watch a movie. By the way, the flash drive was only Legend N17 and films by Tinto Brass. There was nothing to do, I had to watch Legend 17. I was amazed that I didn’t want to see such a masterpiece. Usually, when I watch movies, I constantly rewind, pause and go to do my own thing, but there was just no coming off.
Acting Danila Kozlovsky surpassed himself, I did not even know that he would be able to get used to the role. It is worth noting that before this film I have not seen a single picture with Oleg Menshikov, and if I saw it, I did not pay attention to it. In general, for me it was a completely new actor, but as I was struck by his role and his performance, to date I have reviewed almost all the films with his participation and I can say that he is everywhere as beautiful and talented.
So, while I can’t call Legend N17 the best Russian film, it’s certainly one of the top ten because it’s patriotic, high-quality, interesting. In general, I never thought I could put ten points in a sports drama, but I can’t get less.
Of course, if when viewing this picture to be guided by the message that to find out who was, there is and remains the seventeenth number of the national team of the Soviet Union on hockey, then in the picture of Nikolai Lebedev, hockey specialists and professionals will find a lot of flaws. BUT!! If this film is considered as a patriotic film, as a modern spectacle, then it deserves attention.
The film is about a man, about a person, about someone whose name is known by almost every second person in our country, not even a special fan of hockey, including women. The movie is simple, understandable to everyone, without problems. The emphasis is on raising the patriotic spirit. But it will also be possible to trace the moments of the biography of the great Russian hockey player.
The film crew, like the actors and the director, took responsibility for what they did. The story of Valery Kharlamov will always be subjective. There will be someone who will say: it is not true, I do not believe, I personally knew this person, etc. But Danila Kozlovsky coped with the task. More than that. Dashing, assertive, self-confident, reckless, his hero I think a little different from the screen image. Hot Spanish blood Kharlamov, certainly made itself felt and was reflected in the painting by Lebedev. Oleg Menshikov looked very good as coach Anatoly Tarasov. Maybe our make-up artists did not bother too much so that the image of Tarasov was what is called one-on-one, but Menshikov’s game levels this fact.
Overall, the movie came and went. Again, if you do not make strong documentary claims against it, then it is very nothing. A high rating and numerous positive reviews are confirmation of my words. Our viewer will not be deceived and you will not spend on the chaff, and therefore 10 points!
10 out of 10
Long before the release of this film, having barely seen it in the announcements for several months, I firmly decided that I would definitely go to it. And go. And then again and again.
First of all, I want to say that Kozlovsky is very similar to the great Kharlamov. Menshikov on Tarasov is not all similar in appearance, but how much recreated character!!! At the beginning of the film you see him as a tyrant, a monster, but at the end you see him endlessly loving his students. Canadians... beasts, bulls! But their strength and anger against ours was not enough. Will, character and preparation helped ours to defeat even such a formidable enemy.
Separately, I would like to note the brilliantly applied reception of the spatial and temporal parallel. We are talking about the parallel (temporary) between Kharlamov’s brilliant passes between opponents on the ice and memories of his childhood, as his uncle diddged attacks from an angry bull. And about another parallel (spatial) between again Kharlamov’s movements on the ice and between Tarasov’s movements with a stick on the playground is almost telepathy... almost a complete repetition of movements, including the throw with which Kharlamov scored the second goal. Just extraordinary emotions, this accumulation and spill of all that was for all this, all the preparation, all the hardships ... Emotions were at each of the goals of our team, but this time - the most powerful. It was a turning point that our Soviet team managed to make.
Such emotions are not found in every film. Not all of the people I went to the movie with (I went several times) managed to contain their emotions... and I barely held back. A film about the struggle, about the character, about... about our legendary Soviet team and its legendary coach and great players... one of which became the best in world history forever... and its number is 17.
17 out of 10
Your number is seventeen,
The whole world knows it. "Red machine", this is how the Soviet hockey team was called in its time, the whole world knows. It was a generation of champions, bright stars. Vladislav Tretiak, Boris Mikhailov, Vladimir Petrov... They were legendary athletes, masters of their craft. They were admired, idolized. Their game, achievements, victories confirm the words from the famous song: "Real men play hockey, a coward does not play hockey!"
If we continue to list the most outstanding players of the Red Machine, then, undoubtedly, we must say about one person, the magnificent Valeria Kharlamov. During his short hockey career, he won eight world titles and two Olympic Games. Valery Kharlamov's number - the seventeenth - is forever assigned to him. Perhaps this is the highest recognition of his merits and skill.
Many films have been made about this great man. In 2013, the last of them, Legend N17, was released. It received many positive reviews from critics and was voted the best film of the year. But the most important thing is that Legend N17 made people worry about the heroes, support them. It would seem that this is just a movie, something fake, fiction. But it's not. People who watched it in cinemas jumped from their seats, applauded the athletes who scored goals, cried with delight. And this is considered the highest rating given to Legend N17.
It is also worth noting the magnificent cast of the film. Known to many in the drama “Duchless” Danila Kozlovsky appears before us here in a completely different way. He managed not only to believably play a great athlete, but even to star in the “hockey” episodes. Another actor whose performance I would also like to mention is Oleg Menshikov. Anatoly Tarasov was not only a famous coach, but also a man with a difficult character. To embody his image was not an easy task. The actor, meanwhile, is handling it. Tatiana Anatolievna Tarasova addressed with gratitude to Oleg Menshikov. She believes that he has the main role in the film.
Legend N17 is based on real events, but it is still a feature film. Its director Nikolai Lebedev was able to correctly compare parts of the history of the great athlete, rearrange some of them. To be able to do this in such a way as not to allow the viewer to notice discrepancies with the real sequence of events is a real skill.
It is said that cinema is dead in Russia. But is that true? No, because the same "Legend N17" viewers consider almost a masterpiece. It is not only about the life and career of Valery Kharlamov. This film charges the audience with patriotism, love for the country, sports. Finally, it’s a motivational film for thousands of people. And really, after watching it, I want to live. It becomes clear what a person is capable of if "will gather the will into a fist". Perhaps that is why the film has such high ratings, popularity. Therefore, he wants to watch and review, to worry again and again for the heroes of the film and admire the subtle and beautiful acting of the actors.
Films based on the story of one outstanding person, they are biopics, can rightly be described as amateur projects. The audience’s assessment is influenced, among other things, by the personal attitude towards the main character. At the same time, the painting by Nikolai Lebedev evokes such emotions as empathy, anticipation and jubilation, and even inspiration, among people who are not fond of hockey - including me.
The first obvious merit of the filmmakers is the perfectly conveyed atmosphere of the USSR forty years ago. Although the described era was far behind, the appropriate successful selection of locations for filming, the iconic work of costumers and decorators, allow you to take what is happening with great attention. It was recreated not only the life of ordinary people and athletes, but also the features of behind-the-scenes sports policy. Surprisingly, some concepts and situations do not change over time and remain relevant outside the framework of cinema.
I think the film struck a balance between scenes and dialogue. Both of them are equally interesting, and after some time after watching, entire phrases played by the actors of the situation, their reaction, really linger in memory. At the same time, scenes on ice, which, as you can guess, occupy, if not a large, then an important part of screen time, are constantly kept in suspense. It is felt that domestic cinema is developing, and the developments of Western colleagues are actively used: slowing down, actively changing the perspective of the camera, whipping up tension with the help of musical accompaniment.
Not to mention the strong cast. Names such as Menshov, Menshikov, Madianov are here, moreover, not for a tick, but in confirmation of a responsible approach to the creation of the film. It is worth noting that the lead actor is very similar to Valery Kharlamov, at least externally. The events in his life are interesting to watch, and it is expensive.
One of the most memorable projects of recent years. An interesting combination of sports and domestic drama with a romantic narrative in the broad sense of the word, although the love line here occupies an important, though not a defining role. I want to return to this story in a short time.
The sports drama “Legend N17” directed by Nikolai Lebedev was released in 2013 and tells the unthinkable story of the “star” of Soviet hockey Valery Kharlamov and his contribution to the victory in the most significant match – the Super Series “USSR-Canada” in 1972. The film was awarded six Golden Eagle awards and received the highest ratings of film critics.
Legend N17 is a surprisingly organic and patriotically charged film that radically distinguishes the film from all presented in the Russian box office. The film is thoroughly saturated with the strength of the spirit of this male game, an incredible thirst for victory and patriotism. Separate scenes and twists of the plot of the film amaze and inspire feats. For Valery Kharlamov, there was no great tragedy from being sent to Chebarkul - he knew he would return to Moscow. His strength of spirit coach Tarasov tested the most cruel way for the athlete – sitting on the bench for spare months. Although the film moved the moment of injury Kharlamov, but this episode really took place in the life of the hockey player. There were many obstacles in his way, but they are nothing compared to the expectation of a quick victory. And it is not for nothing that it was shown all over the country before the Winter Olympic Games, where the United States and Canada were still expected to be the main opponents in modern Russia. After it, I want to re-read the life story of Valery Kharlamov and all the athletes who brought Russia (USSR) fame as the best hockey players in the world. And, perhaps, it is good that the film was released before the Olympic Games, so as not to be upset even more by the unplayability of the Russian national team and the sad defeat in the match against the US national team. But it was this match that once again showed the importance of team spirit and playfulness.
It is also interesting that the filming was entrusted to Nikolai Lebedev. Earlier, the author shot only one patriotic picture “Star”, however, which was awarded many prizes and, in particular, the State Prize of the Russian Federation in 2002. Legend N17 was clearly aimed at the same level. The film was produced by the main “sharks” of the Russian film business – Nikita Mikhalkov (“Weary by the Sun”, “Siberian Barber”), Leonid Vereshchagin (“State Counselor”, “72 meters”) and Anton Zlatopolsky (“Stalingrad”, “Taras Bulba”). The script for the film was selected from several. The final version was written by Mikhail Mestetsky, known for his witty works “Legs – Atavism” and “Squirrel and Arrow”, and stand-up comedian Nikolai Kulikov, which allowed to add notes of mischief and sparkling humor to the film. The music for the film was written by composer Eduard Artemyev. In addition, an ice field was built specifically for the film at the Luzhniki stadium, and Nikolai Lebedev was engaged in storyboards alone for more than three months. In general, in such a composition and with such a careful attitude to detail, it is impossible to lose.
In general, the film turned out, rather, as a response to American hockey and “hurrah, patriotism”. It is impossible to talk about some historical section here: the chronology of events is broken, the characters and individual scenes are extremely exaggerated. Nevertheless, the film turned out not only convincing, but also worthy of comparison with American sports biopics. This is the level that post-Soviet Russia is reaching, we can only consider. The film believes in every scene, even the one in which Valery Kharlamov, together with his partner in his arms, climbs from one tower to another at an altitude of more than 60 meters. And from this point of view, the filmmakers coped with their creative task by five plus.
