When Allied forces liberated the Nazi concentration camps in 1944-45, their terrible discoveries were recorded by army and newsreel cameramen, revealing for the first time the full horror of what had happened. Making use of British, Soviet and American footage, the Ministry of Information’s Sidney Bernstein (later founder of Granada Television) aimed to create a documentary that would provide lasting, undeniable evidence of the Nazis’ unspeakable crimes. He commissioned a wealth of British talent, including editor Stewart McAllister, writer and future cabinet minister Richard Crossman – and, as treatment advisor, his friend Alfred Hitchcock. Yet, despite initial support from the British and US Governments, the film was shelved, and only now, 70 years on, has it been restored and completed by Imperial War Museums under its original title "German Concentration Camps Factual Survey". close

The film "Heart of the Enemy" is the story of a German pilot named Eric (Andrey Chadov), who selflessly fought during the Second World War. Eric dreamed of the sky since childhood, and his dream became a reality - now he is a fighter pilot, a patriot of his country, fighting for the glory of Germany. However, the reality he faces in the war opens his eyes to the fact that not everything looks exactly like what Hitler’s propaganda claims.
Having become a real master of combat aerobatics, the hero of the film “Heart of the Enemy” is struck by the art of a Soviet pilot, whom he once encounters in an air battle. The enemy is a real hero, and despite the fact that he loses the heroic battle with four German aces, he does not leave the burning plane to the last.
Wanting to look into the face of such a desperate and courageous man, Eric returns to the landing site of the pilot and sees a Russian guy who, like him, loves his homeland and is ready to give his life for it.
However, then the hero of the film “Heart of the enemy” does not yet know that fate will bring them together again. Eight years after the war, while in captivity, in a Soviet camp near Vorkuta, they will meet again. In their attempts to counter Stalin’s system of extermination, no less cruel and inhumane than Hitler’s, former enemies will become allies. close
