"The Armenian film Bonded Parallels tells two intersecting stories: a mother who gives life to a child at the cost of her own and a daughter who repeats a similar love story that once resulted in her own birth. The two ‘bonded parallel’ stories provide a close look at two different societies in entirely different time frames, and in doing that they bring unexpected similarities to the surface. On one side, there is the story of Hanna, who lives in a small village in Norway during World War II, waiting for her husband. Meanwhile, she meets Arakel, a Russian prisoner of war of Armenian origin and gives him asylum, an event that inevitably leads to a love affair. As for daughter Laura, love comes from a disobeying student. Her story takes place during the 1980s, when the demonstrations of Armenians for independence reached their climax." - IFFR close

These guys made us laugh in the dark cold years, when a smile was rare. Their victories oversaw little less than the military. We waited for their performances on stage, almost like offensives on the battlefield. They taught to win not by despising the opponent, but by extending his hand. They were a powerful energy charge at the time when all the energy of the country died. The words from their song "Good evening, you can say hello, you can just Barev DZES!" became a call sign not only for our country, but for the entire KVN brotherhood. They were and remain our pride – the guys from the legendary team of KVN Yermi. What stood behind their sparkling humor and fantastic victories, only they knew. And for the first time, years later, the scenes of time open. close

While it was long thought that his filmography had concluded with the film Life in 1993, Peleshian has now returned with a new film, simply titled La Nature, through which he once again observes the delicate cohabitation of human communities with their environment. Gathered from the internet, most of the images that compose the film are fragile, amateur-shot traces from within nature and its tremors that regularly rock these communities. Volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and tsunamis form the film’s visual fabric, and are set against images of grandiose natural landscapes. A visual elegy, the film resolutely acknowledges the superiority of nature, with its unrelenting force, capable of transcending all human ambition. With this, the filmmaker seems to remind us that humankind will not emerge victorious from the ecological havoc that it has created. close
