Peter Jackson made a great movie. Although I thought that this work of Tolkien can not be translated into the language of cinema. But Peter Jackson did.
I met the book a long time ago.
In 1980.
My son is sleeping in diapers, and I've been reading Guardians all night.
In 1994 she bought the Lord of the Rings, translated by Kamenkovic and Carrick. The best translation for me.
And in August 1991, my brother wrote a poem. I adjusted it a little.
The nazguls are galloping across Russia.
Sowing strife, blood and fear.
But the road to Ordruin has begun.
With the power ring in his hands.
No one knows where that volcano is.
In the mountains of the Caucasus or ... Lithuania.
A haze, and the haze creeps in.
Eyes and minds.
People are already divided.
They're full of anger.
And barricades grow.
We're on both sides.
And the clanging of the swords of the Caucasus,
Lithuania cried its own.
There are fires all over the country.
And no one to extinguish.
But someone took a step towards it.
And cut the blood count.
And let the wind blow,
Mountain of Destiny is calling.

And the darkness thickens over the world.
And there are unclear paths ahead.
But we're going to Orodruin.
And we have to walk.

I started to doubt that we would make it.
No Gandalf, nice hobbits. And Orlov.

It remains a mystery to me why so many people are excited about this film. . For some incomprehensible reasons, in the 2000s I did not see it, but the interest was great, I wanted to understand what is so in this picture. . 3 days was spent on a 3-hour viewing. . . It was very difficult, I confess. . . I guess fiction isn't my thing at all. . The eternal struggle with evil, vile orgies, whipping up horror ... There are so many heroes in the film, so many names and incomprehensible words sound, even in the first minutes I almost drowned in an abundance of all this. . I tried until the end to see something useful for myself, listened to the words of Gandolph, looked at Frodo. . But no, I wasn't hooked at all. . . I heard a lot about the film, about the greatness of Tolkien, about the director, about how everything was filmed, but the film itself was not impressed. . Although all this had, and the big screen, and 4K, and sound, and the desire to meet the Lord of the Rings, but no.

As you can see, I think from the above, The Lord of the Rings is one of my favorite books. And, when I did not even know that the film adaptation was planned (or maybe it was not planned yet), I dreamed that I would make a movie on it, like Star Wars. Large scale, with special effects.

Dream come true? Not exactly.

Special effects and scale, yes. You can't take that away from Jackson's movie. The cast is already worse - all the actors are good, but do they fit the character type? Successful images: Gandalf (Ian McKellen), Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), Boromir (Sean Bean), Legolas (Orlando Bloom), Gimley (John Rees-Davies), Saruman (Christopher Lee) all hobbits except Frodo. Elijah Wood is a very controversial Frodo, someone too cute for a hobbit to play an elf. But the elves, all but Legolas, are completely unconvincing. I hate to say something offensive to actors, but elves must be beautiful. Inhuman, sophisticated. With all due respect, I can’t say that about Hugo Weaving or Cate Blanchett. They don't look Elvish. Even Liv Tyler is good in human terms, but does not reach the elf.

By the way, the love line between Aragorn and Arwen is brought to the forefront - but in the novel it was not practical. A concession to the mass audience, the girls will not like the film without languid glances and kisses. But timekeeping is not rubber.

Therefore, there is a lot of Arwen in the frame, but there was no place for Tom Bombadil, Biryuk, Old Elm, Graves. Yeah, none of that. Even the director's version. Because of this, by the way, it seems that the "Ponge Pony" is practically in the Hobbitania. Which is not so, because it is in a human settlement, and people in the Shire are rare. On the map, from Hobbitania to Rivendell - almost half of the Middle-earth! Peter Jackson cut the distance by half.

But Arwen is now a warrior. It's not even about the canon, Tolkien was a very conservative person, for him a woman in war is abnormal by definition. There is one such heroine in The Lord of the Rings, of course, but she is the exception to the rule, she dresses as a man and secretly enters into battle. And here Arwen is directly volunteering to save hobbits.

Basically, it's not bad. Perfectly shown the celebration in honor of Bilbo at the very beginning, the history of the Ring (only here it would not be necessary to disclose it in the prologue; would wait for advice from Elrond), Moria and subsequent events. Balrog I thought was more anthropomorphic, but this Diablo clone will come down. The cast is good despite some inconsistencies. Special effects - well, there's nothing to say, without cool special effects and should not be taken, it's fantasy. Is the atmosphere of the book conveyed? The film turned out to be epic and disturbingly depressing, while the book is more complicated - there was a certain contrast between the "thriller" and the good fairy tale. Due to the loss of several episodes, the emotional tone "aligned." This is probably bad.

Result: quite normal film adaptation, but the masterpiece is very short. Overrated film, and it is clear why – in the near future is unlikely to wait for a remake, you have to be content with what is. However, as a three-hour commercial of the epic Tolkien will do.

Dangerous it  business — to go beyond threshold: it is worth stepping on the road and, if you give free rein to your feet, you do not know where you will take.

A few years ago, a friend of mine bought three discs. These were collections of films. Spy Kids, Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings. I haven't seen any of them before, but I was only allowed to take one disc. I chose the Lord of the Rings, and I didn't know that I had identified one of my lifelong hobbies.

I was also very lucky in that it was the director's version of the film.

The cinema is a work of art. And the film adaptation of John Tolkien's beautiful book only confirms this fact. Peter Jackson's film was made for many years. For many more years, the Lord of the Rings will not be filmed again - it is simply useless. The movie is brilliant. Genius in terms of adapting the script (in my opinion - this is the best adaptation of the book), genius in terms of special effects (to be honest, I want to look more in 3D Lord of the Rings than Avatar or anything else), in terms of scenery, directing.

But the main advantage of the film is the acting.

Best of all played by Ian McKellen. He was born to play the wise wizard Gandalf. There is no better actor for this role. Ian perfectly conveyed the depth of the magician's character.

The complete opposite of Gandalf is Saruman. Friends have become enemies. I take my hat off to Christopher Lee. He played his part beautifully. I once read somewhere that Lee was Tolkien's friend. And the professor really wanted, if the Lord of the Rings was filmed, that Christopher Lee would play Gandalf. But McKellen was created for the role of Gandalf, and Lee for the role of Saruman. And both of them played very well.

Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd - before the film completely unknown young actors. Hobbit roles brought them fame. It is a well-deserved honor.

My favorite actor is Sean Bean. Any film with him is a beautiful film. Boromir is perhaps his best role. Sean's play made me cry at Boromir's death. And this is a symbol that the role is played perfectly.

And finally, after watching the trilogy, I read all of John Tolkien's books, watched all the early adaptations of those books. I am looking forward to the movie The Hobbit.

I am not alone, there are thousands of such people. People who became fans of the work of John Tolkien, Peter Jackson, as well as the actors of this film. And that's just great!
