Robert was born on February 28, 1969 in Ridgewood, New Jersey, USA.
After graduating from school there, Robert was enrolled at Fordham University, later transferred to the general education faculty at Columbia University.
When he joined the Screen Actors Guild, he changed his name to Robert Sean. His first appearance on the screen was in 1986 on the set of the TV series My Two Loves. He then starred in the feature film The Manhattan Project.
In 1987, Leonard began shooting in the TV series Bluffing It, but his character very soon left the project, as he did.
In the film
"My Best Friend Is a Vampire" Leonard played in 1988, and in 1989 he starred in the famous film Dead Poets Society - with the participation of the magnificent Robin Williams and Ethan Hawke. Having starred in this film, Robert Sean Leonard became a more popular actor, he played in such films as Mr. and Mrs. Bridge (1990), Married to It (1991).
