Samuel Atkinson Waterston was born on November 15, 1940 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. He entered Yale University in 1958 and graduated in 1962 with a bachelor’s degree in history and French. After university, Waterston moved to New York, where he played in theater and on Broadway, earning a living not only on stage. He made his film debut in 1967 ("Fitzwilly"), and became known as a film actor after the role of Nick Carraway in the film The Great Gatsby (1974). A major success came to Waterston
