He was born on September 28, 1896 in Moscow, from 1916 he began to play at the Moscow Art Theatre, which was preceded by his studies at the Moscow University at the Faculty of History and Philology. In the theater he was Boris Godunov in the production of “Tsar Fedor Ioannovich”, Nekhlyudov in “The Resurrection”, Lord Chilter in “The Perfect Husband” by Oscar Wilde, played the roles of Satin in the Gorky play “At the Bottom” and Velikatov in “Talents and Fans” by Ostrovsky.
