She was born in the family of a Moscow nobleman, Sergey Alekseevich Kiselev and a gypsy Maria Georgievna Polyakova, a singer and dancer of the Strelnen gypsy choir I. Lebedev. For the first time she took the stage at the age of 13 as a dancer, with the choir of Moscow gypsies Egor Polyakov in the restaurant “Arbatsky basement”. At the age of 15, Lyalya Chernaya was already a celebrity and performed with the choir of E. Polyakov on the stage, including in thematic concerts dedicated to gypsy singing, which were held every year in the Column Hall, the Bolshoi and Experimental Theaters. She performed gypsy folk and household songs: “I was born a gypsy”, “ring earrings”, “Garden-Vineyard”, “I can’t hear at dawn”, “Don’t leave”, etc., which she learned from her mother. Especially amazed the audience her dances, marked by the richness of rhythms, musicality and plasticity.
Since its foundation in 1931, Lyalya Chernaya has been working at the Roman Theatre. In the first performance, “Morning and Evening” played a cameo role, but soon, thanks to her bright artistic talent, she became the leading actress of this theater.
With great success, she played a number of major roles in such performances as “Life on Wheels” by A. Germano (Green), “Gypsy” (Zemfira), created according to the works of A. Pushkin, “Bloody Wedding” (Bride) G. Lorca, “All About You” (Lyuba) A. Afinogenov, “Daughter of Tents” (Inca) I. Rom-Lebedev, etc. Especially loved by the audience Grushenka Lyali Cherna in the play “Grushenka” based on the story of N. Leskov “The Enchanted Wanderer”, who walked on the stage of the theater more than 1000 times.

She starred in the film The Last Tabor as Alta. Gypsy songs in her performance of “The Tramp” and “You, the Wind” from this film were very popular. In addition to the gypsy songs and romances from the performances “Grushenka” (“I am a gypsy-dish”, “Share”, “Shuttle”), “All about you” (“I do not hear at dawn”, “How good”) and the film “The Last Tabor”, Lyalya Chernaya recorded songs and romances on CDs in her own treatment “When a gypsy woman speaks” (an old gypsy song), “I want to die without loving” (muse Ya. Feldman, St. L. Pechorin), “My fire” (Poster) and others.
The undisputed influence on her creative destiny was exerted by her husbands. M. Yanshin (1934-1942) and N. Khmelev (1942-1945), outstanding actors of the Moscow Art Theatre. In recent years, when the actress was little busy in the current repertoire, she enthusiastically passed on her experience to young artists, paying them a lot of attention and warmth. Hardly until the last months of life Lyalya Chernaya with great success participated in various kinds of pop concerts with the performance of gypsy folk songs and romances.
