Born March 5, 1958 in Leningrad.
In 1979 he graduated from the acting department of the Faculty of Dramatic Art LGITMIK (the workshop of Z. Korogodsky).
He worked as an actor in the Bryantsev Leningrad Theater.
In 1987 he graduated from the script department of the VKSR (workshop of V. Chernykh).
Already one of the first scripts of Igor Ageev, the pilgrim detective “Genius” (D. Victor Sergeev), received the prize “For the best script” at the Kinotavr Film Festival in Sochi (1992) and became the leader of the video distribution of domestic films in Moscow for June 1993 (2nd place). Another film based on Ageev’s early script, the tough, uncompromising socio-psychological drama “Kamish Paradise” (rear debut of Elena Tsyplakova), won prizes at the IFF in San Sebastian (1990).
Igor Ageev is interested in modern life on the verge of “norm” and violation of its legal, moral, ethical, sexual, etc. conventions. Genre moves are used not so much for the attraction of the plot, but for the development of an insoluble contradiction between the general and the particular. His hero (always an individualist) is defeated in a conflict with the “good” or “bad” but in any case established structures of society (school class, organized crime). A love triangle between a teacher, a difficult teenager and a young career athlete; an impromptu concentration camp for homeless people; “honest” scam of a robber of the loot – full-fledged and timely formulated script ideas, writes Mikhail Trofimenkov about Igor Ageev in the “Modern History of Russian Cinema”, ... The scripts of Igor Ageev could serve as a qualitative basis for social genre cinema. Unfortunately, it is this direction that makes up the mainstream of any cinematography that has been almost ignored by domestic directors. Nevertheless, “the ability and inclination of Igor Ageev to place unconditionally modern heroes in conventional genre constructions” was appreciated by director Dmitry Svetozarov, one of the recognized masters of the genre in Russian cinema. The result of their cooperation was a joint script for the feature film “Fourteen Colors of the Rainbow”, in addition, Ageev wrote about 36 episodes for the project “National Security Agent”.
Among the latest works of Igor Ageev scripts for the films: “Savage” (Director Yuri Pavlov), “Blood Group” (Director Peter Zhuravlev), to television projects “Bandit Petersburg” (Director Vlad Furman, Andrei Benkendorf), “Gentlemen officers” (Director Andrei Kravchuk) and others.
In 2003, Igor Ageev’s script for the film “Blood Group” received the Third Prize at the All-Russian competition “Long Live Melodrama” of the State Film Agency of the Russian Federation and the Central Screenplay Studio.
