Elder of the St. Petersburg scene, one of the most popular actors of St. Petersburg, master of episodic roles. Plays kind, a little strange, often comic old people. “Wild Gavrila,” “Through the line,” “My best friend General Basil, son of Joseph,” “Hello from the namesake!”
Mikhail Devyatkin has been serving the theater since the age of 20. He was brought up at the plays of Meyerhold and Tairov, Mikhoels and Akimov, worked with many outstanding masters. The actor jokingly calls himself a man who has seen an ichthyosaur. His creative path he began in the Theater of the Lensovet, which was then placed in the "Passage". Ironically, he now works in the Theatre of the Leningrad Soviet, but now in that on Vladimirsky Prospekt.
Devyatkin has always played a lot, and even at 85 he is busy in most of the repertoire. Any tragic situation when his characters appear on the stage seems less dramatic, because who, if not this wise old man with an almost biblical appearance, so subtly understands the main character, whether he is lost in the darks of his consciousness Wojzek or Fro in love.
A quiet, wise service to one’s cause without star hype and premiership is a dignified existence in the profession. Everywhere his "side" characters are extremely important in the play, and a new light illuminates, by the way, the whole string of heroes brought by Mikhail Devyatkin on the stage over the past decades.
Mikhail Konstantinovich rarely starred in films. Mostly in episodes. The best work of them is the old neighbor Semyon Fadeevich, hypnotized by the healer Kalyazina in the detective “Through the line”. No less interesting Devyatkin in the role of a sick Fedi in the short comedy "Hello from the namesake!"
