Miles Davis, American jazz musician, trumpeter, composer, band leader, was born on May 26, 1926 in Alton. He died of pneumonia on September 28, 1991 in Santa Monica. Davis had a huge influence on jazz music, developing such styles as fusion, cool jazz, modal jazz, bebop, hard bop. His half-century creative activity is associated with the names of many famous artists, including Jerry Mulligan, John Coltrane, Adderley Cannonball and many others.
For the first time Miles begins to play the trumpet at the age of thirteen and soon cooperates with bands Sonny Stit, Clark Terry, Charlie Parker, Benny Carter. After graduating from music school, Davis, in 1948, created his own ensemble, called the Capitol Band, which played in the genre of cool jazz. In the early 50s, there is a break caused by drug addiction.
In 1955, Davis assembled a new band, beginning bold experiments in the field of jazz. The key albums of this period are 1958 Miles and 1959 Kind of Blue. At the same time, trumpeter Davis plays with the Gil Evans Orchestra.
In the 1960s, with a new quintet, the jazzman toured the cities of Europe extremely successfully, and also released a number of albums, critically recognized as the pinnacle of traditional acoustic jazz. Some of Davis’ most popular songs are “So What,” “Walkin,” and “Blue in Green.” Popular albums "Davis In Europe", "Bitches Brew" and "Miles Smiles" are released, as well as other works.
Since the late 60s, the musician began to experiment in the field of jazz rock, connecting electric instruments. In this style, Davies' new band recorded "Filles De Kilimanjaro" and "Bitches Brew". In the late 70s, a prolonged depression causes another break in the activity of the trumpeter. The Man With A Horn was released in 1981. A real breakthrough is the album “Tutu” in 1986, the style of which was a mixture of funk and rock jazz. /
