Look at “Charade” not just as a mix of suspense and romantic comedy, but as a rebus, where every apostrophe is beautiful and meaningful.
When you get divorced, will you go back to America?
You don't want me to stay here.
Of course I do, but then you would write me a letter.
This is the story of a young widow, Regina Lampert, whose husband sells all their property the day before the murder. She is left with a pair of travel bags, a quarter-million-dollar debt and a company of her husband's sworn enemies. And the stubborn faith of the heroine to strangers gracefully complicates the plot.
Regina is played by Audrey Hepburn. Here all her movements are dictated by incomprehensible grace and ease. Despite the constant charm of the actress, in each film it is in the movements that the character of her characters is read. So in Breakfast they are louder and bolder, in Sabrina, on the contrary, timid and naiver.
The assistant in the solution of Sharada becomes the hero of Cary Grant. The actor initially turned down the role, fearing that the chemistry between the characters would look ridiculous due to the age difference with Audrey at 25. No reason. At 59, he is still charismatic - deftly jumping on Parisian balconies and joking beautifully even at gunpoint a step away from falling from the roof of the American Express building. But could a girl with disgusting manners mean more to an old adventurer than a quarter of a million dollars?
Steps, the click of a turned key in a keyhole, the cracking of a telephone disc and the creaking of door hinges are replaced by a piercing phone call, the flicking of iron bars and shots. The music in the film goes by the wayside, but nevertheless receives a nomination from the Academy.
The described variety of mechanical and metallic sounds dictates the era.
Take a look at the control system of the Paris metro, fonts on signs and advertising on trains, payphone booths and the dungeon of the theater stage.
And each outfit of the heroine is a beautiful puzzle in itself. Regina is bewildered to tear a thin milk scarf from her neck, swinging open one by one the doors of her Paris apartment. Later, escaping from the hotel, hastily put on long white gloves. They are secondary, but in a perfect combination of colors, textures and cuts, these hats, shaped handbags on a short strap, dresses-cases and bright coats with 3/4 sleeves become her faithful companions and support the hostess throughout history.
Beautiful here is not only what is not peculiar to our time, but also foreign to our culture. On echoes of children's laughter in the park Regina comes to the puppet theater. Children laugh at a scene from the life of two characters known in Victorian England, a couple Punch and Judy. The two are often metaphors for marriage problems in English-speaking countries. They were also part of the quest that Amy prepared for Nick’s next wedding anniversary in Gillian Flynn’s novel The Disappeared and the film of the same name with Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck.
The first meeting of the couple from the "Charade" will be remembered by a subtle witty dialogue with the crowning phrase: "I already have so many terrible acquaintances, and until one of them dies, I can not meet anyone." These words will be fatal for the heroine, and for the resourceful hero Cary Grant – an opportunity to introduce herself again.
Director Stanley Donen made a dynamic, lively and sparkling film. Of course, stylistically it is somewhat similar to the paintings of suspense master Alfred Hitchcock (especially the 50s), in connection with which, by the way, many believe that this is his film.
The main character (Audrey Hepburn) falls into the trap of her late husband's past, who never told her too much about himself. She is followed by a close friend of her husband, who wants to return the money that belonged in equal shares to them all. The mysterious hero of the brilliant Cary Grant helps the girl cope with the sharp attacks of her fate, but her gut is in no hurry to reveal. The heroine will have to understand who is really on her side, and who is only playing a double (or even triple) game.
The magnificent duet of the main actors of this film is a delicious highlight that will sweeten the viewing of the tape with a voluptuous love line, memorable for many years to come. Worth Audrey's kisses or a brilliant shower scene. Cary Grant once again proved that any actress in a duet with him goes to a new level, which allows her to reveal both comedic and lyrical potential of acting. Of course, Audrey was already a star by the time the film was released. However, do not forget that it was Grant who was supposed to play with her in a duet in the legendary romantic comedy ' Roman Holiday' (albeit initially Elizabeth Taylor was considered in place of Hepburn herself). That is why it is wonderful to watch the creative 'chemistry' between Carey and Audrey, who were able to embody their best acting qualities on the screen.
As a result, 'Charada' is an amazing work full of unexpected plot twists that make the viewer look forward to a denouement that can surprise everyone.
Like snow on your head or a confused detective with a great ending
Thriller, detective, comedy. I continue a kind of marathon of paintings with the participation of the magnificent and charming beauty Audrey Hepburn, and today this detective thriller is in line. The fact that this picture is included in the collection of three discs dvd, which I purchased relatively recently, in addition to this picture there are ' Love in the afternoon' and the famous ' Roman Holiday', which I will definitely get to, but a little later. In the meantime, here's my brief opinion - a confusing detective with a great ending. And, if in the picture ' How to steal a million', I did not mention the disadvantages, since I did not find any, then here he was found, but only one, and I will certainly tell about him, but for now let me begin to analyze this picture.
So, pluses:
1. To be honest, the story did not catch me at all, because the film will talk about a beautiful married woman who kills her husband, and immediately several suspicious gentlemen are announced who demand a fabulous sum from a newly-made widow, which her deceased husband allegedly stole from them. And then she comes to the aid of an elderly, but charming Mr. Peter Joshua, and the girl will have to decide who is his friend or enemy? I expected platitude, in some places I guessed scenario twists, and in this picture managed to confuse me. I myself was sometimes lost in thinking and guessing about the characters, events, circumstances and so on, sometimes even small details. What can I say, the writers caught me. I can’t say that history pulls on the highest score, but it can’t be called a passing middle peasant. It's a solid four, and only because I guessed a few corners. The story during the timekeeping manages to spin several times so that you inevitably look at the screen, trying not to miss anything. My respects!
2. Music - and although, apart from the title theme, it does not stand out here, but definitely creates the right mood and immerses the viewer in the events taking place. But the title theme is fast, sharp, makes the heart shrink as quickly as possible, fast and very dynamic.
3. Paris - and again all the action takes place in Paris, with its quiet and narrow streets, famous buildings and structures, references to the French classics, well, the surroundings are natural, although the views of the city will not often please us, but even in these rare moments Paris fascinates.
4. The final - let's say, everything was going about it, there were hints, I completely guessed it - and that's good. The finale of this type of painting should be exactly that, and even from a moral point of view, not to mention another. Yes, I understand that I wrote an obvious thing, but this is my position, you can agree with it, or it is up to you!
Minus. Comedy - that's what I didn't get from the word 'totally'! We kind of have a serious history of brutality and murder, a tense atmosphere, and then, in the middle of all this, the characters start showing the circus chapito on the road. At first, I didn’t mind it, but after the first half, I realized how strange this comedy is. She doesn't belong here. About the romantic line I’d rather be silent, because if in ' How to steal a million' I saw ' spark ' between the characters and I saw the circumstances, then here it simply did not work. It was a stupid farce, nothing more.
A bit about the main characters:
1. Regina Lampert, played by Audrey Hepburn, is an attractive married lady whose life is turned upside down after the news of her husband’s murder. In this situation, she is forced to trust a new friend Peter, who promises to help. She is a brave Amazon woman dressed in elegant costumes. Beauty Audrey didn't disappoint me. Her sweet and innocent smile disarms, her look captivates, acting - at the highest level. Bravo Audrey!
2. Peter Joshua, played by Cary Grant, is Regina’s new friend, ready to help her deal with the problem. Charming, strong, clearly has his intentions. A sly look betrays a real professional. Carey very skillfully played the role of the already elderly defender of the widow. Bravo Carey!
3. Inspector Edouard Granpierre, played by Jacques Marin, is a Paris police officer investigating the murder of Regina's husband. It looks a lot like Inspector Lestrade, he's crooked, he's trying to track down the killer, and so on. Jacques played this role very well and emotionally.
So why did the Soviet censorship not allow this picture to the Soviet audience? It’s all about one scene, a little frivolous content, and more in the picture I did not find a hint of ' the harmful influence of the West'. If this scene did not exist, everything would be fine, but we have what we have.
As a result, we have a good detective thriller with a confusing story, a tense atmosphere, an excellent title theme, Paris entourage and excellent acting work, especially the beautiful Audrey!

Easy evening with film from the golden fund of cinema — that is often lacking in workdays.
The image of the charming Regina Lampert is the middle of a career icon of the 50-60s style. Just one of the many charmingly monotonous images of Audrey Hepburn, but she can be viewed endlessly in any role.
Charada is a strong detective with sharp dialogue and a beautiful, not too far-fetched, romantic line. Out of such a movie grew "Ocean's friends" and a variety of films about tricks with casino beating and illusionists (" Twenty-one, "The illusion of deception" and the like). As a great lover of irony, playful words and stories, after which you feel that the creators did not think you were an idiot, I was especially pleased to disassemble the lines and feel how the writer managed to change the emotional direction more than once during the dialogue. Psychological hooks that come from broken expectations, literally in every line.
One of the interesting scenario tricks described in the interesting facts about the film from the production stage: Cary Grant initially refused to star in the film. He thought that from his age (and he was 59 years old) he would look like an old man chasing Audrey Hepburn, a much younger character. Scriptwriter Peter Stone told the actor that he would rewrite the script, after which Grant withdrew all objections. As it turned out, Stone simply “transmitted” all the ambiguous lines of Grant’s character to Hepburn’s heroine.
Stone pulled out easily, but gracefully. A good lesson for any playwright.
The film is not surprising with the plot, complexity of filming, editing or graphic solutions (although for 1963 - the credits are interesting!). Here, the whole story lives on the magnetism of Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant. And brilliant dialogue, of course. Each sentence can be read into quotations and live a separate life, like half of Faina Ranevskaya’s phrases.
For the viewer, the pleasure will not be in the technical achievements of the picture, but in a precisely created cinematic story.
I love Audrey Hepburn very much, but I was disappointed by this film. She looked, as always, beautiful, but her character and the plot of the film did not reach the splendor of Givenchy outfits.
I did not like the character of the heroine. Well, very concerned, as they would say now, lady! She fell out of love with her husband and, apparently, had no intimate relationship with a man for a long time, since she rushed with such fervor to the elderly hero K. Grant, who was fit for her father, and willingly believed all his stories. They looked very unconvincing.
The fact that she didn’t send him away with his lies immediately suggests that the character is “protected” for a happy ending, i.e. he is not a criminal. The scene with Grant dressed in the shower did not amuse, but caused only bewilderment.
Ridiculous and ridiculously evil hunters for missing money looked unnatural.
About where the money disappeared, it became clear immediately after reading the letter of the main character.
Perhaps if the film were half an hour shorter, it would look livelier and not so tired.
The music of Henry Mancini helped to finish this long film.
Two hearts beat in the rhythm of love.
The American Embassy, wait, wait.
The trouble hit Regina Lempert right away. She was first informed of her husband's death, then it turned out to be a cold-blooded, planned murder. Adversity hangs a dark shadow over the heroine Audrey Hepburn. And she would have backed down, but Mrs. Lempert is not as simple as it might seem. This fragile woman with undisguised thinness, at the same time possessing grace and grace of gait, will have to play a game with death and secrets to complete the investigation. She won't pass, no, not even having trump cards up her sleeves. In this story, they found a place and money, chased by colleagues of Regina’s wife – an eternal theme of treasure hunting, but not outdated by an iota, since different people, common opinions about happiness. Even taking into account all the above, the characters of the painting by Stanley Donen do not lose faith and a sense of humor, and the pretty actress Audrey Hepburn is not alone in her on-screen fight against criminals, she was accompanied by the charming Cary Grant, in turn, he endowed his image with the notes of cheer of the young man and sometimes the harsh look of James Bond.
“Charade” does not bring anything new to the genre of spy films, while remaining very interesting thanks to the emotional play of actors, a stupid detective line and the pulsations of the action movie, why pulsations? Because in the films of those years, the mind-blowing dynamics were constructed differently, and fist fights resembled a theatrical performance. Donen’s tape is close to a work of art when it comes to the battles of antagonists and protagonists on the roofs, other ingredients are important in the main dish, which interest the audience more than chasing and waving fists, here these “spices” are there, which makes “Charade” an interesting, boring spectacle. Despite its name, the production of the picture is far from a charade, it deserves another praise for Stanley Donen, who knows how to make films with Audrey Hepburn, where there is a chemistry of love along with other genres.
The director demonstrates the harmony between people of different characters, like Regina and Peter, giving to realize the simple truth that love should not be waited for or sought, for those who are strengthened to a serious relationship, it comes by itself, and a common goal unites when it is too strong, then the lights of a more serious relationship flash. The picture itself resembles the relationship of the newly made couple, first shy, then bolder, then passionate, and eventually exploding Geiger counter. And what is disguised as a spy story is nothing, envy and danger always haunt lovers. “Charade” in the understanding of Donen is sadness, joy, intrigue, and of course love, to the unpretentious (this time) music of Henry Mancini. This is the story of a woman who unwittingly became a spy and her neighbor.
I watched this classic of Murican cinema here the other day and I must say that I am not impressed. I am not biased towards the cinema of a foreign country or my own, so I like both “12 Angry Men”, “Spartacus”, and Soviet films of those years.
However, based on my previous experience, I can say that there are much more interesting films of the 60s in this genre, the same stunning Soviet comedies that are not for nothing turned every new year on TV, and which are in vain trying to replace modern slag, not finding popularity.
The film itself is a mixture of several genres, and they open exactly that alternately. That is, first we see a detective, then even a thriller, then some kind of comedy, and in the end, a militant. Most of the scenes are filmed in a chamber setting, I love the film, the manner of shooting and street scenes of those years are very different from the current one. The main character is a naive girl, who at the same time frames the man she likes and plays with him in every possible way, then letting him closer, then repulsing, and as the plot progresses, we learn that it is not quite clear who is playing by whom, this very man is revealed from a completely different side, and then with a third.
The actors play well, but the persuasiveness is somewhat spoiled by the mentioned change of genres with the general straightforwardness of the plot. The dialogues are memorable and if there is a little humor in them, I do not remember it.
In general, a good movie, but not a masterpiece, not so classic.
Stupid cute films with Audrey Hepburn are a separate genre of proven film classics. "Charade" occupies a worthy place among them. First, as befits comedy with Audrey in the lead role, it is a real visual attraction. All the smallest details of the film are worked out with such love, so brightly and festively made that even the most inattentive and careless viewer can admire them. Givenchy outfits are a separate treat for the eyes. This is exactly the situation when the banal finger becomes a masterpiece of high art, and the costumer is one of the main creators of the film. Audrey's stylish and memorable toilets create a significant share of the Charade charm. Audrey herself is always sweet and irreplaceable. Of course, her style of play can be called curvature and squirming, but they are necessary in this situation and look quite natural. That's what Reggie should be - stupid, flirty, stress-eating and not fat. This is how it fits harmoniously into the atmosphere of this dynamic and light film. “Charade” looks so natural and relaxed that in general, the stupid and banal humor of this film not only does not bother, but also truly laughs. You understand that the cliches that the high title of subtle intellectual humor it does not pull, but still laugh. Miracles! And the frank absurdities of the plot are also willing to forgive the authors. There are also scary moments in the film. No, of course, for fans of harsh thrillers and horror films, naive scarecrows of “Charades” will seem like childish babble, but I do not like these genres, I am not at all experienced in them, and this was enough for me. And the action was enough. It is here just enough to hold the viewer’s attention, but not turn into a cool action movie. The ending, by the way, is very unconventional. More precisely, it is certainly logical if you click on the pause and analyze what is happening, but there is no time for this at all. So the ending is pleasantly surprising. In general, this is a very pleasant light film, as if specially created so that after a hard working day, you can climb onto the sofa with delicious things (you can not watch Rigi constantly sharpen something and not join her) and fall out of reality for 2 hours.

Stanley Donen's film "Charade" positions itself as a romantic detective with elements of comedy. And yet, what do we see more on the screen, an action-packed detective or a sophisticated romance? And what should keep the viewer from watching for almost two hours, how long the picture lasts? I have never been able to find the answer to this question. I can’t help but admit that the plot of the film is quite interesting, although not new. Young, beautiful woman Regina Lampert, performed by the brilliant Audrey Hepburn, becomes an unwitting participant in a dangerous game, the purpose of which is the stolen money of her dead, or rather murdered, husband. Games where every loser risks being killed in his pajamas. Like any woman, Mrs. Lampert is left alone looking for protection, help and understanding and finds all this in the person of the charming American Peter Joshua, who is embodied on the screen by another, by then already entering, Hollywood star Carey Grant (the film “Charade” is one of the last appearances of the 59-year-old actor on the screen). “Peter Joshua” is not who he pretends to be, changes names, masks and appearances throughout the film and in order not to lose the favor of Regina as an informant or a beloved woman, it is up to the viewer to decide, he piles up one lie for another. It is noteworthy that this is the essence of the charade - to cause suspicion during the film to each of the characters of the picture. Mrs. Lampert, like any woman in love, believes him. Why? It's just because she wants to.
The subsequent events of the film, I would call, a little intriguing investigation into the disappearance of such coveted money. And what is important to note is an investigation with a very predictable outcome.
All this is supplemented by quite original humor, in the form of a funny habit of the heroine, relieve nervous tension by eating food and a few love scenes, one of which, and the most beautiful, in my opinion, is the scene of the main characters kissing during a night walk on a river tram along the Seine.
Perhaps only the beautiful composition of Henry Mancini “Charade”, as well as the unique beauty and talent of Audrey Hepburn in the vestment of the pearl of elegance from Hubert de Givenchy make this film outstanding and worthy of viewing.
When I watch Audrey Hepburn and no matter what, my heart is thrilled with joy and love for this elegant actress, but above all as a woman. I have reviewed all of her paintings and will revisit them again and again. And each time, as in the first, surprised by what is happening on the screen.
Charad's film was not Audrey's first encounter, but rather a sequel. The film itself impressed me, as did all of her screen work. Confused detective with amazing actors deserves the attention of absolutely every lover of this genre. The film intrigues the viewer with its plot.
Three dissimilar buddies, I would even say a partner, are chasing a defenseless girl in order to get long-stolen money from their accomplice, who is also Reggie's husband. It seemed a casual acquaintance is her only way to hide from the clutches of detractors, but even he tries to find money only by his own method. Character Carey Grant as may initially think the viewer on the side of these friends, but no, for the sake of protecting the girl, resorting to lies saves her.
I wouldn’t say that it’s an exaggerated detective, but rather with light humor and a different love story. The picture of Stanley Donen leaves behind a pleasant mood and you can not help falling in love with this story, even if it is played on the screen.

The duet of Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant is interesting and beautiful in itself. They are both great American stars, and I personally love watching movies with them. It was nice to see them together in this film.
We see the story of how the main character became a widow. Her husband died, and after his death, she realized she knew nothing about his life. He had a double life and many secrets from his wife. Different people are looking for money from the deceased, and mysterious people think that his wife knows about the money, but she knows nothing. We see a detective, romantic story with secrets, investigation, humor and a beautiful happy ending.
I respect and appreciate Cary Grant. He is a very talented and bright actor. Grant plays enthusiastically and knows how to attract attention to himself. Cary Grant was a wonderful actor and person, and he left behind a legacy of his various roles. Sweet Audrey Hepburn is the charm of this movie. She is a feminine and fragile woman, very beautiful and impressive as an intelligent woman. It is very difficult not to fall in love with Audrey, because she is an amazing actress and woman. She also left behind many of her favorite films and her bright roles.
"Charade" is an American, romantic detective of 1963 and a cute movie with a chic cast. The movie is funny and looks easy. It is atmospheric and shot purely in American spirit and style. To all fans of the great actors Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn, I recommend this movie to watch.

Often, films that are quite high in various world rankings and really are worthy to occupy their high positions, but taste is a very subtle and unpredictable thing. Most viewers from absolutely different parts of the world put this or that film high scores, however, as well as critics, but you look at the picture and wonder a little – “Well, what is so special about it?”. And the viewing, meanwhile, turns into a small such torture: once ten yawned, went to get a cake, so as not to fall asleep, as a result, after finishing the delicious thing, he did not sleep for a few seconds, and then the final credits were rolled up. No, I certainly exaggerate a bit about the impact of Stanley Donen’s tape with the incomparable Audrey Hepburn on me, but I had to miss the places on “Charade” pretty much. Yes, this is the case when, in my purely subjective view, the tape was somewhat overrated. Although the story of a young and beautiful American woman who, on her return to Paris, learns about the death of her husband, with whom she decided to divorce, and who is dragged into the whirlpool of dangerous events associated with stolen money during the war and now lost, is not without numerous advantages. That is, it is not difficult to understand why the people fell in love with “Charade” – it is more difficult to understand why the classical Hollywood picture left you indifferent. But I'll still try.
So let's start with the story. I have no doubt that in 1963 such a story looked much more fascinating and interesting than it is now, since since then and until now there have been so many intricate detectives with admixtures of romance and humor that for their enumeration of the limit of this review, I am afraid, not enough. And there is not much intricately woven here - already in the middle of the tape I had the chance to guess the main villain, as well as predict many conceptual moves. Everything is very predictable, naive and somehow childish. Sometimes it seems that we have a parody, although carefully watching the action, you understand that the cinema is in principle deprived of this. Even multiple jokes and humorous episodes do not particularly tune the viewer to the fact that this spectacle is purely frivolous. Then the characters. I absolutely do not want to scold my much loved actress Audrey Hepburn, but the role she got very superficial. By the standards of our time, her Reggie looks like a typical blonde who is ready to rush to the first man she likes, blindly trusting her inner instincts. Throughout most of the film, her main task is to seduce a brutal male and believe all the nonsense that he constantly weaves her. At the same time, the appearance of Hepburn herself - the type, role, become - completely contradicts her behavior in the film. In the same “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”, by the way, a magnificent tape, despite some frivolity, her heroine carried some mystery, mystery and charm. In "Charade", before us, let the good, but in general stupid turntail. By the way, such a blonde image, try it on yourself, for example, Marilyn Monroe, would look much more organic. It seems that her roles were inspired by the writers, creating the character Reggie Lambert.
Also, I did not think that there was a love chemistry between the main characters. On the part of Reggie, as discussed above, only lust slipped, and the character of Grant and the whole film was concerned exclusively with finding lost money and perceived the young girl as just a partner in a personal matter. Yes, in the end we seem to explain why, but sincere sympathy and incipient love are sinful because they inadvertently manifest themselves, even if the carrier of these feelings is a professional agent who knows how to brilliantly play indifference. From here, the final declarations of love seemed unconvincing. Kerry Grant, the actor is certainly charismatic and charming, but the character and he got a bit dry, and if at first his Peter Joshua seems curious and mysterious, then in the middle of the film interest in him slightly subsides. It seems that the hero constantly opens up to the audience from a new side, but at the same time there is no special development in it.
The authors seem to very carefully hide all the plot maps of the film, and in the end you still know in advance how it will end and who will eventually turn out to be. But the advantages in “Charade” are also enough. In no case can we say that the tape is categorically unseeable. Separately, there are a lot of successful and even fascinating moments in it - what is the scene in the shower, in which a mysterious friend of Reggie bathes, dressed in a suit, and gives hilarious pearls in plain sight of the astonished girl. I don’t know how true this may be, but I think the creators of our classic “Irony of Fate” must have been inspired by the episode from “Charade”, sending Hipolite under the shower in outerwear. And, by the way, Ryazanov went much further than the authors of “Charade”, since his hero bathed in the ass drunk. I must admit, he had this scene turned out more convincing, because sober is unlikely to pull on such eccentricities. But this is still speculation, although what the hell is no joke, because “Irony” came out much later than “Charades”. In principle, the authors of this picture paid quite significant attention to humor, and therefore throughout the film you will have to laugh more than once. Another plus of the picture is its title song. It is not just remembered, but in the literal sense of the word cuts into memory and makes you sing the motif long after watching.
P.S. In general, he remained indifferent to the film. This is the case when the tape in any case does not cause negativity, but it does not appeal so much that once again to reconsider it – there are too many controversial decisions in it. But for certain aspects of “Charade” certainly want to praise, because in the film a lot of successfully played scenes and charismatic actors. And for the humorous presentation of everything that happens on the screen, I want to express special gratitude, because if there was no humor in the film, “Charade” would be unbearably boring to watch.

Thriller/detective "Charade" 1963 filmed by Stanley Donen A great genre film with its beautiful story, filled with all sorts of twists and extraordinary twists. Stanley Donen tries to make his film in the style of Hitchcock, paying tribute to the master and confessing his love for the maestro. But he has his own thriller, his own great detective. The film is saturated with awkward moments, an easy ironic look at the genre and beautiful scenes.
The picture gives a sense of confusion in the story, which the viewer will certainly want to investigate. A story that gives the viewer many false answers and gives even more mysteries. It attracts the viewer with its sincere wit and excellent cast.
Absolutely easy and understandable genre, live cinema. Great atmosphere and a real suspense with its attractive idea, keep the viewer in suspense throughout the film. The viewer seems to read a good detective or experiences all the events together with the heroes of the film and tries to understand the difficult, extraordinary script idea.
A great movie, not inferior to the samples of the genre of detective and thriller.
The movie is worth watching not only out of the curiosity inherent in all people, not only because of the love of the genre, but also because of the great actors Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn and Walter Mattau. Actors who are the faces of one of the most stunning times of growing up Hollywood. Actors who represented their generation, whom everyone knew and who had the popular love and reverence of the audience. Actors who idealized the beauty of man.
Cary Grant is the personification of a real man, with a characteristic attractive appearance and a Hollywood chin, which seduced many beauties. One of the most significant and charismatic actors of his time, fondled by tender love, primarily by viewers. Carey Grant is stunning and beautiful, one of his appearance on the screen, causes a sense of strength and order, which will inevitably come at his will. It is difficult to say something about the acting talent, which certainly was present, but I doubt that such a type of handsome person as Grant it is necessary, it is enough to smile with your snow-white 6 smile and strain a dimple on the chin. Audrey Hepburn is a magnificent, incomparable and charming, sweet actress. Fashionist and legislator of fashion and style. One of the most lively actresses on the screen, with a stunning timbre and interesting English, with a taste of a French accent. Brilliant in every film, giving the viewer all her energy, all her emotions and all her joy of life. In this film, she appears to us frightened, alarmed, distrustful, but madly in love and loses her sobriety to think. Walter Mattow is an excellent role of a great artist.
A magnificent example of his genre, without any sagging. An excellent representative of his genre, allowing the struggle with the great paintings of Hitchcock and other legislators of the genre. Excellent, well-developed plot, amazing acting work. All this makes cinema magical and draws the viewer into his world, in his time, into his atmosphere.
I just have to look.
A very exciting and at the same time fun thriller and what is most pleasant - the main roles in the film are played by Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn - an actress, usually rarely working in this genre. The actors create a very organic duet and this is one of the few cases where the age difference does not matter.
The film tells of a woman vacationing at a resort and planning to divorce, but when she returns home, she finds out that her husband is dead and all the money - $250,000 - has disappeared in an unknown direction.
Then her husband's co-workers are announced, claiming the same money, and suddenly, by the way, her friend, whom she met at the resort, appears who wants to help her, but constantly lies about his name. Then the money-seekers begin to die one by one, and the woman does not know whether to trust her new friend - what if she is the next victim?
Actors play for 100! Audrey Hepburn was 34 at the time of filming, and this may be the first film to feature a woman her age. The actress brilliantly conveys all the emotions of her heroine. Cary Grant at the time of filming 59, but the age difference between the actors is absolutely unimportant - the duo in the frame looks great.
In short, a great funny and at the same time, intense film, great plot, amazing actors, great costumes of Audrey Hepburn, and of course Paris!

The detective stories of the 50-60s are incredibly colorful, bright and unusual in their texture. The icon of style and fashion in this growth, of course, is Alfred Hitchcock, a fan of whose work is your servant; but the creations of Stanley Donen still managed to impress.
The first thing that catches the eye is that note of absurdity of the situation, which is the driving force of the whole plot. American Reggie Lambert, filing for divorce, goes to the resort, where he meets a spectacular man who introduced himself as Peter Joshua. Returning home, the girl discovers a completely empty apartment, the same empty bills, and finds out that her husband fled with all the good. It would seem that the situation is hopeless, but it becomes even more complicated when it turns out that the husband died, left only a bag with tooth powder, passports and an envelope with stamps, besides in the past during the Second World War, he turned a scam and embezzled 250 thousand US dollars. And three of his “combined soldiers” do not give passage to the heroine, trying to seize the treasure. Only a new friend of Joshua can help. As the money hunters begin to die, and Reggie’s ally changes the names and sides of the warring, it becomes increasingly difficult for the girl to trust someone.
The situation in the frame changes with such frequency that it is almost impossible to predict what will happen in the next frame, and the absurdity of the situation, in a good sense of the word, increases along the course of the situation. We can see something similar in Guy Ritchie’s movies today.
The second strength of "Sharada" is a great cast. Audrey Hepburn and Cary Granta look great, but Audrey looks more spectacular, she lives the role, every gesture, every phrase, fear in the eyes I want to believe, plus all the outfits Hepburn perfectly emphasize the character of his heroine. Against the background of the main characters, the three bandits look very convincing. Especially pleased type James Coburn.
The dialogue is polished to brilliance, there is a significant amount of humor, the romantic line is well emphasized. And, of course, a chic unexpected outcome, and, by the end of the picture, the author has prepared another surprise. A brilliant film, a classic of the genre, it is interesting to watch, even in the time perspective.

Writing reviews (notes, as I call them). For a reviewer, the syllable is not the right one) for popular blockbusters I consider it an ungrateful affair and everything that is possible and impossible is written on them, I will devote another record to a wonderful film. The film “Charade” by the beautiful director Stanley Donen, in the 50-60s, shooting stunning sparkling and exceptionally positive films. As far as I know, the director is alive to this day, the truth has not been removed for a long time. At the age of seventy he tried to direct the concerts of Lionel Ricci and Lenny Kravitz, but as far as I know, completely unsuccessful. It is not necessary to talk about the bad, to deviate from the topic - especially.
So the movie. It begins with a simple story as a mountain resort Mrs. Lambert (Audrey Hepburn) meets Peter Joshua (Carey Grant). Returning home to Paris, she learns that her husband has been murdered. A CIA officer named H. Bartholomew (Walter Matthau) tells her that her husband is actually one of the four who carried out a scam with the transfer of some jewelry during the War to Germany. Later, he allegedly appropriated the entire amount and fled, and his “accomplices” after the death of Lambert, very persistently begin to besiege his wife with a request to return a quarter of a million dollars. To understand this she helps her new friend – Peter Joshua, who with suspicious consistency changes his names.
Self-irony. Self-parody. And just a sea of positivity. This is what awaits you in this wonderful picture. Everyone plays their roles perfectly. Whether it’s the gorgeous Audrey Hepburn I fell in love with from Sabrina, or Cary Grant, who plays a not-so-typical role. Although sometimes I thought he was a little unnatural - comedy roles are not his thing, although the scene when his character, taking another name, takes a shower in a jacket - great. Although I understand that this is the “legacy” of the previous works of the director Stanley Donen, in whose musicals such comic inserts, yes to the cheerful music, were simply genius. Bad guys are also performed by very textured characters: whether it is Tex (played by western legend James Coburn), over whom the little hooligan son of Regina Lambert’s friend laughed very ironically: “And you look like a cowboy.” Do you have a revolver?” Or the American comedian George Kennedy as the big man Herman. A huge, frightening kind of man with a hook. In my opinion, exactly repeated later in "Live and let die others" - one of the series about Bond.
Overall, the film is wonderful. Dialogue is genius. I especially remember two delightful scenes at the beginning of the film – this is the actual acquaintance of Mrs. Lambert and Joshua and then – the conversation of Mrs. Lambert with Bartholomew. The whole story is absurd, as is the whole story. The film is uneven and unbalanced. But it's no less beautiful. Here I see the makings of the future of “Big Kush” and in something American classic parodies of the Zucker brothers.
The movie is worth watching at least because of the brilliant actors and virtuoso and somewhere even absurd (in the best sense of the word) scenes with an amazing sense of humor.
