At the edge of time. Movie Review: Terminator: Dark Fates
The film can be compared to the eighth episode of Star Wars, which in the same way tried to balance on two chairs. Miller’s picture now and then flirts with the fan service, showing everything in the way that fans love in the series, and on the other hand – wants to be something separate. “Dark Fate” lacks the same golden mean that could make the tape an ideal continuation with a heap of new ideas, not afraid to draw inspiration from the first and second parts.
Due to the constant jumping from one to another, Dark Fate looks like someone’s fan fiction, made with great love for the source. That’s just the author of this fanfiction is not very original, and the shortcomings of fantasy are compensated by reflection on the works of Cameron. From which, by the way, the film is only a classic narrative structure, very tight and neatly adjusted to the standards of modern blockbusters. It should be understood that in this case, the role of the director plays a lot on the work with the story built by Cameron. Obviously, Tim Miller isn’t James Cameron, he’s not that good at film.
If Cameron always gave the viewer the opportunity to consider everything in detail, subtly understanding when the editing gluing should happen, at what point the camera should make this or that movement, then Miller does not understand this. He is a much more mainstream director than Cameron, who has made his way from auteur cinema to mass, flirting with high technology. Therefore, Dark Fate feels and is presented as a typical blockbuster with simple directing, which, often, the viewer does not even notice. For example, there is a classic car chase scene in the film. And if Cameron’s chases resembled an ideally honed road waltz, Miller’s is a minting camera, editing glues every one or two seconds and a complete lack of immersion in what is happening. To understand what is happening is a separate task for the viewer.
The plot of “Dark Fate” and completely resemble the combination of the first “Terminator” and “Judgment Day”. Miller's film does not just peek at the fathers of the series, but literally borrows entire plot moves and scenes from them. Ideologically, again, the picture continues to develop Cameron’s thoughts about the undetermined future. The tape does this through dialogue and a couple of interesting flirtations with the Terminator universe, but mostly copies, reworks and castrates the most powerful, memorable and cult fragments from the first two films.
Moreover, the picture does not even try to introduce the viewer to the course of things. If you look at "Judgment Day" in detail, then Cameron's love for a long introduction is quickly striking - the first act of the sequel lasts about thirty minutes. During this time, the director managed to introduce the viewer to all the main characters, helped to penetrate them and develop feelings for them. It was similar in the first “Terminator”, which revealed to the audience for thirty minutes who Sarah Connor was because of what the struggle for her life and the central conflict were interesting and tense thriller. But “Dark Fate” does not spend much time on the first act – it is much more interesting for them to quickly show action, explosions and endless running, rather than adequately revealing at least the main character.
In the first minutes, the film is just after the fact presented by a certain Dani Ramos (Natalia Reyes). Who it is and why it is shown is completely unclear. The viewer is shown fleetingly her father and brother, after which a new model of the Terminator Rev-9 from the future (Gabriel Luna) immediately arrives, and in front of him is Grace (McKenzie Davis), a man (local Kyle Reese), whose body has been modernized to more effectively combat machines. Less than ten minutes later, Grace and Rev-9 begin to fight each other for the life of Dani, whom the audience does not even have time to really see. But, nevertheless, she turns out to be an important character in the history.
This is the main flaw of the film – its heroes. The Rev-9 itself, according to the tradition of the series, poses absolutely no threat to either the heroes or even the audience, it simply does not scare. The main antagonist acts as a simple whipping boy, whose ability to kill and mix with the crowd the picture does not even try to reveal. A set of simple scenes from the category: “Hello, I’m looking for Dani” and the like – all that Rev-9 has in the plot. Dani herself is the female version of John Connor, around which everyone runs and tries to protect.
And in general, the main goal of the Terminator is covered by everything in Dark Fate. The first one who really steals every scene, inspires and makes fans feel at least some positive notes while watching is Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton). With the return of James Connor, the only and inimitable Linda Hamilton, whose character is as much a cultural asset of the franchise as the T-800 performed by Arnold Schwarzenegger, returned to service. The aged T-800, by the way, again appears in the franchise, whose storyline, on the one hand, looks interesting and cool, and on the other – resembles complete idiocy and absurdity, which, however, causes a smile.
Linda Hamilton, if not the main star of the franchise, then this particular part certainly. She and Grace’s Mackenzie Davis character are the best thing in Dark Fate. The film can not please either quality entertainment, plot intrigues, or good chemistry between the characters. He catches only actors and Cameron's big name in the credits, nothing more. Hamilton sometimes gives out such a strong acting that the viewer involuntarily begins to turn all the events experienced in the past parts of the heroine in his head, understanding why tears of grief from the spoken words appear on her face every now and then. Davis, however, is far from Michael Bean, but she is at least pleasant to watch, in her eyes reflects the war, which is why the character turned out to be not as flat as he could.
“Terminator: Dark Fate” is another attempt to launch a new trilogy in the franchise, which, at least this time, is not annoying. This part simply has nothing that could cause any emotions. Yes, it was nice to see Sarah Connor aged but not useless in battle, enjoy the T-800 performance for the hundredth time and generally return to the series. But all this was so often and so unsuccessfully already done that all these sequels simply ceased to cling somehow. The first two films are not going anywhere – they are a complete dilogy. This, perhaps, lies the main blunder of all the sequels of “Terminator” – they try to paste new pages in a long-finished book. The book was so perfectly finished a long time ago that even its creator James Cameron was unable to continue it.

And he's really back, but only as a producer (one of 10) and a writer, if you can call it that.
In general, the film turned out to be good, it has everything that should be in a fantastic action movie: a beautiful picture, expensive special effects, chases, shootouts, etc. Of course, the plot is stretched, well, this is already a classic, films like this in their majority attract entertainment, not a deep plot.
Take even the legendary "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" (yes, it is his) deep plot (?), philosophical themes (?), morality (?) strongly doubt, the maximum of what this film says is that humanity will destroy itself, and such plots ... well, you understand.
Pros:
Dynamics, the picture can not be bored, the absence of useless conversations that reveal the characters (usually do not affect the plot), plus for special effects (expensive, beautiful, powerful)
Cons:
Legion is a new system, mistakes are old.
The only difference between Skynet and Legion is the soldiers. The "Legion" fighters of course will be cooler, the terminators of the REV series are very strong and practically not killed, they surpass the Skynet robots in everything.
But the logic of the machines is horribly the same, when the enemy is on the doorstep, send a fighter to the past ... and there it goes. Review the strategy, protect yourself in case of possible failure, finally send all forces to destroy John Connor.
*Sending a robot to the past* is a great move.
In conclusion, I want to say that the film is worth watching at least once, watching and saying goodbye to the Terminator forever.

I must say that Sarah Connor has repeatedly saved the world from the mad computer evil. When the second film of the Terminator saga was released in 1992, it became a real event in the world box office and cinema in general. Then she disappeared from the franchise, but again appears in the 2019 film The Terminator. Dark Fate along with his old friend Arnold Schwarzenegger. Linda Hamilton and Iron Arnie are back together. And in this fact there is a direct bridge between the first, second and sixth parts of the story about the Terminator.
But the old shots are no longer able to pull the plot and generally organize the movement in the picture only on their shoulders. As a new sprout breaks through the asphalt, so in the fabric of the latest work of director Tim Miller there is something new, superfast, very eyey and attractive. A huge fireball opened on a bridge in Mexico City, and from wherever it came... She!
Naked hybrid of man and machine, charming, attractive, superfast and blue-eyed. At first glance, it seems that this is not even a girl, but a little boy. Boy hairstyle, angular movements, plus these open blue Yesenin eyes actress Mackenzie Davis made her image and the image of her character Grace very unexpected. Innovative. It was as if she was all anointed with a brush, which was dipped before in a barrel with the paint “Pretty”, but immediately this mask falls from her face. As soon as Grace grabs the police batons, the movie "Terminator." Dark Fate explodes with speed. And this time it's not the Terminator who's gassing, it's the woman. Half-female, half-cyborg. Her. Grace. Grace is on fire.
The authors of the picture did not become salty for a long time and immediately throw the viewer from the fire and into the fire. This thing is fast, vertical, with sharp plot twists, I must say. And with the flight of fantasy, no doubt. But the engine of all this was Grace.
The character of actress Mackenzie Davis, according to the script, arrived on Earth to protect the young girl Danny Ramos (Natalia Rice). The latter may look normal, but in its body lies the Last Hope of Mankind, or Great Power. What kind of power is that? You didn't! Female rage, that's what. Sarah Connor shows us the same trait in some episodes. Half-Cyborg Grace also in terms of rage clearly does not weave in the tail.
I would call it the Terminator. Dark Fate 2019 directed by Tim Miller with the triumph of female action. Emancipation is walking around the planet, the weaker sex already has the heaviest guns, grenades, chains and airplanes better than men. The hero is no longer relevant even in the Terminator franchise. Now a worthy man is not made of flesh and blood, but of liquid metal. He is good because he does not shave, perfectly changes diapers, does not have an erotic interest in women and even, if ordered, will unconditionally pay alimony. He cannot be the father of the child he pays for.
There are, of course, against the backdrop of this triumph of female power and power, moments that spoil the overall impression. As soon as Sarah Connor began to say something, much less dragging fake guns and playing with the trigger, a philosophical disappointment fell on me as a spectator. Time spares no one. Linda Hamilton tried to bring both the coolness of the Amazon and humanity to her cinematic image, because she alone hangs out among cyborgs most, but this was not her best attempt.
The Terminator movie. In addition to Sarah, Dark Fate has other direct logical references with the first two parts of the franchise, to which the legendary director James Cameron had a hand.
And in 2019, old James is still in business, and this time is the producer of the 6th Terminator. He entrusted his Cyborg Universe to director Tim Miller, who created the surprisingly juicy and unusual world of Deadpool. Miller introduces the cute Terminator with freckles model REV-9 (Gabriel Luna) into a number of cyborg films. And so they line up in a row. All three beauties of the franchise: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Robert Patrick and Gabriel Luna. They are so different, but all three are very memorable. In "The Terminator." Actor Gabriel Luna was able to create an image even in something intelligent cyborg. But at the same time, it feels like a quiet anger, hatred is boiling in him. Does the car have any emotions? And this anger rises soft, like bubbles in semolina porridge, when it is cooked on a slow fire.
But it is not only the characters that create the attractiveness or unattractiveness of the picture. His Majesty's story has never been canceled. And the plot of the new "Terminator". Dark Fate is twisted and just good. He answered questions about the fate of some characters in the franchise that hung over 25 years ago. The story of Sarah O’Connor’s son John. Of course, there is an element of naivety, of improbability in everything. And in this sixth film, it loses to the first two Terminators. But the quality of shooting the film of 2019 is undoubtedly higher than all five parts before.
"Terminator." “Dark Fate” is a real class, it’s real action fiction and even in a sense, Cyborg Drama. The ending of the thing turned out to be human, tearful, captivating. And as for the fighting scenes, they are just at an excellent level and are in full swing not only in the air, and not only on the ground, but what is especially great - they stepped down, under the water. Underwater photography is especially good to watch on the big IMAX screen, as I felt it myself.
In the pluses of the thing, I would add a semantic component. The Terminator. Dark Fate" is not just a wrapper from candy bright, fantastic, catchy. The film takes a look at our future. Modified people, robots instead of workers, which is already happening in the production and service sector, the supremacy of women on Earth, the development of strength and endurance. The growth of female power against the background of the weakening of males. All these processes take place in the modern universe, and these questions that are raised in the film require reflection. Terminator 6 carries a certain semantic load, and this is also good.

It's a non-terminator. This is just a mockery of the universe and fans.
Immediately I will say that after I saw the poster of the film with three main characters, I knew that the sequel was over. This poster caused a lot of criticism at the time of publication (long before the release of the film) and now it became clear that the fears were not in vain. Going to this film, I did not expect anything worthy and therefore took what I saw rather indifferently. But it is difficult for me to choose decent words to correctly describe what I have just seen.
Obviously, it was a new level of humiliation for fans through mockery of all the things they hold dear and loved about the Terminator universe. At the very beginning of the film, we are shown a fragment from the second part and after that everything you love the Terminator is ruthlessly and demonstratively thrown into the trash. Everyone, forget Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Dark Fate is before you. New trends, new heroes, new stories. But did you want it? Is that what we all expected? For me, the answer is obvious: no! Feminism is increasingly permeating Hollywood cinema, even if it is inappropriate or illogical in a particular picture. Now actors are not selected for the plot and role, now plots and roles are written for actresses.
As a result, we have a kid-under-terminator with an absolutely repulsive appearance, just no main character who simply does not understand what is happening at all, and pretentious old Sarah, who throws out inappropriate phrases and does not cause anything but rejection. This trio of Charlie's Angels confronts Venom's pretty looks. Yes, it’s no longer a Terminator... how easily this substance from Mexico jumps and jumps looks more like Venom (or Spider-Man) than a Terminator. There is little in this story about the machine universe. The film doesn’t feel like it has no soul, if you will. It has nothing but feminism propaganda and mocking the fans who grew up on the first two installments. Shame on Cameron for putting his name on this project. Although this case only proves that nothing lasts forever and the great can also fall.
In the whole film pleased only Schwartz, and the fact that he wrote nothing but perplexity does not cause. What? What? Why!? – That’s what I was thinking when his story began in the film.
For me personally, the last film was and still is the second film, Terminator: Judgment Day. Everything else is from evil.
P.S. I hope the movie doesn’t go well. Stop mocking everyone, just leave the universe alone, anyway, it is better already hardly anyone will remove in our lifetime.
Only out of respect for Arnold.

You go to a movie with a negative, and you come out with strong emotions. Don’t listen to negative reviews.
I just got back from the movie and I’ll say... I expected a lot worse. Of course, this whole feminism and Mexican theme spoils the impression, but, firstly, you get used to it, secondly, it does not pass everywhere and there are no hints of Strong Women in the film. Moreover, the main character is an ordinary person, just improved. She's not a super-terminator. Moreover, it can only beat for a couple of minutes, then it needs a bunch of drugs to function further. Plus, there are a lot of references to past parts in the film!! Some people like it and some people don't. But there's even a song in the film that a naked Terminator in the second part of the film appeared in a bar. Machines from past parts, phrases, etc.
But the whole film is revealed with the appearance of Arnie. His character was just beaten by Super! He lived for 30 years among people, got a family, began to understand people, became human-like. At the same time, there was a place for humor in the film, and most importantly, the Terminator became the Terminator. You feel his power again, his power! That wasn't in Genesis. The last 15 minutes are definitely more powerful than in the same genesis and part 4. I don’t want to spoil the ending, but I’ll say one thing!
I could barely stop crying. And many of the men in the room had wet eyes. Powerful ending, powerful game Arnie!!
And the logical conclusion is the Terminator PERSONAGE. Very good, logical and emotional! This is NOT a masterpiece!! But definitely the best part of the Terminator in recent history (although, with the 3rd part will argue). Many people did not like it, but it is objectively hot. Just the third part was evaluated after the legendary first two. In the context of new parts, the third top. The film can be divided into Before Arnold and After. And here part of the DO has nothing that could speak about the film in a positive way. But with Arnie, everything changes.
And by the way, surprisingly, the actor who played the evil thermic played a hurrah! Very well showed a soulless machine, very similar to the liquid terminator from the second part. Cold-blooded killer robot. In the trailers for some reason he seemed funny and not scary. In a nutshell, I don’t think a 5.9 score on film is justified. I advise everyone to go.
The first 2 movies just made my childhood. In my opinion, to continue the plot after T2 is wrong, because:
First of all, the story logically came to an end after T2 and the plot is difficult to surprise. For example, which terminator/technology will impress the viewer even more than the liquid T1000 or capture brutal charisma more than Schwartz?
Or what's more addictive than the sense of imminent death by an unkillable machine? However, Cameron found the answer – in T2 he placed the relationship of the boy and the very machine, already reprogrammed to protect him. Honestly, it brought to tears as a child: remember the scene of Arnie dropping into a red-hot alloy. If you didn’t even “eckle” on that stage, then you are a cyborg, most likely.
Secondly, remember the quality of the first 2 films: directorial work, acting (in which you believe) and special effects (with some even today’s computer graphics can not compete). Plus Cameron refused the director's chair, because he did not see the point in the continuation, which affected the quality of subsequent films.
And if T3, T4 and the series came out worse than T1 and T2, but found something to impress (in T3, for example, these are real moving endoskeletons without graphics or Schwartz in stunning physical shape at 55, himself performing a trick, hanging on a crane). In T4, the plot itself and Marcus were interesting.
Genesis failed: there is only one plus in it – Arnold. He pulled out the whole movie.
Well, there are “Dark Fate”, the plot of which Cameron praises (although he once praised “Genesis”). And you wonder, "Well, why?" Leave the first 2 films alone. Well, you can't come up with a decent sequel for the last 28 years.” But the curiosity to see Arnie and Linda Hamilton again took its toll. On top of that, the director is good, so I thought there might be a chance to do something better than Genesis. So it turned out that the film is still good?
First, the film doesn’t fully exploit Schwartz’s image as it did in Genesis or T3. The T800 is not a key figure, and the main characters do without him for a very long time. They are independent, logical (almost always) and interesting to watch, unlike Genesis (where I repeat, Schwartz pulled everything on himself) or even T4, where the audience applauded when the painted T800 appeared. In T4, John Connor and Marcus, played by Christian Bale and Sam Worthington, were not as interesting to watch as the characters in Dark Fates. So I'm going to move on to paragraph 2
Second, characters and acting. In comparison with T3 and Genesis, the acting is not superficial, but there are nuances. Here's more:
Sarah Connor. I love how Linda Hamilton played her part, and you really believe her. You understand why her character came to this life and why she is so trying to protect the main character. All the emotions are played perfectly and she is important in the plot, which is great. I wish I had more screen time for her.
Dani. The main character is like Sarah Connor from T1: initially gentle character; everyone protects her because she is important. The character is not bad, but expected more independence from her. Although in fact she gets it, but I want to see more – the same Sarah Connor in T1 was much better in this regard.
Grace. This is a mix of Marcus from T4 and Kyle Rees from T1. A soldier from the future, standing up for the main character. In general, its technology is interesting compared to what has been shown in films before. It looks unusual. And you see human emotions (attachment to loved ones, doom, etc.) in contrast to Kyle Rees of Genesis (who didn’t care at all), which is very cool. But with the acting of Michael Bien (Kyle Rees from T1) it is not comparable - there the character was played much deeper, but still looks good.
T800. Arnold is aged here, as in Genesis, but his character has reached a higher level - received human development, while at some points he behaves like a machine: this nuance is played very well and organically. There are no jokes "sucked out of the finger" as in Genesis and worries about his old age (although it is designed for 120 years of work). His motives and actions are also understandable, and he himself looks much more adequate and intelligent than Paps of Genenis. I just admire Arnie here.
Rev-9. Terminator antagonist. It turned out not bad: a kind of reworking of T-Ex from T3: it turned out better. Few words, many actions, there is logic, which is what a cyborg should have (and not, as in Genesis, only words, but actions...). And it looks more impressive than the robots from the series. But to Robert Patrick (T1000) and Arnie, he certainly does not reach (for how to surpass the ideal?).
John Connor. I like how logically it was placed here. Everyone wondered how Edward Furlong, taking into account his peculiarities, could be here – but I won’t spoil it, look for yourself.
Thirdly, the story and the director’s work. The plot is a mix of T3 and Genesis. In some ways predictable, but there is something surprising, which causes more interest. I really like the fact that the director managed to convey the atmosphere of constant persecution and imminent danger – this was only the case in T1-T2. Of course, it’s not Cameron and it’s not as gloomy and serious as it is in his films, and I would really like that (besides the beginning). But it turned out all the same decent, and the raven as on Genesis do not count.
It’s also great to see that there are nice references to many parts of the film, and again, they’re not as annoying as Genesis, where, for example, the main theme played out every time the T800 appeared. Still, the film is independent and does not play out only on the success of T1 and T2.
Special effects are also good – better than Genesis, in places they look a little cartoonish, but do not catch the eye. The only thing I want is a blood rating of 18+.
To summarize, I can say that the film can be watched. With T1-T2, of course, it is impossible to put in a row, but it turned out very decently and definitely better than all the other sequels after T2.
It seems that this is not the last film and I really hope that it will be made as good as Dark Destinies: in this case it will be really interesting to watch. It’s also rumored that the movie could be without Arnie – hopefully they’ll make some reference to it: you know, like Stan Lee in Marvel.

In the last decade, I think, all sorts of grumpy people have been particularly angry about the alleged decline of cinema. Optimists argue with them, pointing to the huge fees and popularity of comics for young undeveloped children, who are filmed by big uncles and consumed also suddenly large, which allegedly indicates the development of cinema. But writing comic book reviews is a thankless affair. They are a product understandable, not pretending to be related to the great art of the past.
A review of “Dark Fate” is reasoned to write so that most of the text was not about “Judgment Day” – not easy. Because with a specific comparison of the style and logic of the narrative, the plausibility and psychologicality of the character lines, it is easier to understand how they say what good is and what bad is.
A cyborg liquidator who, after completing his only murder task, became a tissue salesman - can anyone believe it?! Yes, we were prepared for this in pre-release interviews, but we can not get used to it. Schwartz has a human family and helps Sarah Connor destroy all other cyborgs arriving and arriving. And she, in the first films only draping from these hardware (not to run from them!), now pathetically calls herself the Terminator Hunter. Pretty ironic, almost funny, it's just another parody, isn't it? Where's the laughter? Forgot to finish, like the graphics?
Come on, they'd finish the characters. About the uselessness of the MacGuffin-Mexican lazy did not mention. I’m not going to talk about her performance – there’s just not much space for her to play. Sudden deaths around and ideologically turning news about an unexpected future (remember how normal actors in normal films gradually get used to this, often doubting) – all this just drowns in frivolously staged shootouts and some empty obvious chatter.
That’s really everything that happens in the movie. Tongue scratching and shooting. It seems that all sorts of grumpy people say that cinema is a visual art. That people should do something, not talk about how they're doing it or going to do it. But it is difficult to even retell the film. This is a radio play by a novice amateur with a visual series in comic style:
- semi-liquid cyborg, when he is not in human form, for some reason roars with a terrible beast at his victims;
When a machine gun is fired at him, he runs smoothly and only the last bullet somehow suddenly gets kinetic energy in order to knock him down.
Having reached the victim (although the terminator only needs one blow to rip a person’s head off completely), this cyborg begins to slowly strangle her, just so that at the very last moment help arrives.
Just pathetic attempts to stir up tension. Suspense is completely empty. If you don’t find anything unnatural in these stillborn stories, you might even like Dark Fate. And I'm just grumpy that people feed lazy, untalented slackers with their views.
Without mat, it's hard to describe how bad a movie it is. I think a lot of people who have seen and remember the great first two movies will think after watching that they have just seen the second Genesis. I’m serious, no matter how Cameron said that it will be a direct continuation of the second part – it’s a continuation of the fifth part. Maybe not in fact, but in fact it's still bad!
In fact, from the first minutes of the film, I was, in a good way, shocked. It was unexpected and the film made it clear it would act without compromise, but of course it wasn't. Everything is as usual: current discharges – “bang”, two terminators and they, who are faster, run to fulfill their goal – to save or kill the chosen one. But, alas, everyone in the U.S. became tolerant and there was a “respect” for minorities. Feminism, ladies and gentlemen!
In the first part, the hunt for Sarah Connor was justified! She was to give birth to the future savior of mankind (male). A man is usually stronger than a woman, both physically and mentally. It's in nature! For those who deny it, try to think of women commanders. I don’t want to belittle the female gender, but if you make a woman a leader, then you need to reveal the leadership qualities of the character, and not put the fact that she will lead the resistance in the future. I don't believe it! Take a look at what Sarah Connor was like in the first part and what she became in the second. A significant difference, and most importantly, there is a reason why Sarah turned from a simple girl into a warrior.
You know, a robot can be a human. This is the conclusion reached by the filmmakers. In the first two, it was cars, and now it is a family man Karl. Can you imagine?! What's this about, Cameron? Bullshit! Man, Genesis is better...
Another thing I can't figure out is why the movie needed computer graphics. There, the second part, which is cool and almost without graphics, and here? If you do graphics, why make it so noticeable? In Hollywood, apparently, completely dumbed down, since they forgot how to shoot simple scenes without graphics. It's a shame.
Finally, you need to “push” the director. For those who haven't heard, Tim Miller said the ending he created was very moving. Man, to remove the partially slicked ending of the second part is an achievement! If someone tells himself that this is symbolic, then run faster to review “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” and compare.
This is one of those cases where the plot is completely irrelevant if this kind of problem is present. Shame on you, Cameron.

1. Yeah, I'm one of those people who thinks T2 is better than the Terminator. Perhaps with a very strong stretch, I would consider fitting: "May Christian Bale come," and then, on credit, "an actor constantly changing weight."
Think T1: The love story of two men in the face of danger, war, devastation. T2: The story of a child who, in a violent and dangerous world, is still a child who wants his mother (and his hero-robot father). The child who showed the Terminator what humanity is and the Terminator understood it. The film ends with reconciliation with the need to robotize life.
2. No, I'm not a hater: "It was better earlier." And despite the fact that prequels, sequels, spin-offs, reboots, remakes and other games with franchises are already tired, I enthusiastically decided to watch this movie. Those who decide to go, consider the fact that your 200-300 rubles after viewing you will not be returned.
3. I didn’t like the movie from the first to the last scene. The movie has no idea. When you leave the cinema, you do not feel that pleasant feeling of loss after returning from the movie world.
The development of the line about fate turned out to be weak and pathetic, worthy only of sympathy. Cameron's return did nothing. References to all previous parts (the factory press scene, the helicopter, etc.) are standard practice for many films, which did not elicit any response.
Linda, of course, remained beautiful and a woman with an iron will, but why unnecessary cheap pathos in her game? In the beginning, when we see the new Kyle Reese in a skirt, you're still waiting for something. You are waiting for a soldier who survived the war, survived at the cost of incredible efforts and who got into a peaceful life. But after the first action scene, you realize Mackenzie's pointlessness in the shot. It seems that it was added exclusively for furniture, to stand without any emotions, without feelings, worse than any robot. Natalia Reyes, the hysterical scream that you have to fight to the end, does not show the charisma of the leader you are ready to follow. So lost image that even "Conor-Mumla" performed by Nick Stahl, is much more colorful. I don't even want to talk about Arnie's game. The moment with the curtains did not even bring a smile. And, perhaps, there are no complaints about Gabriel Luna.
4. The film caused a feeling of confusion. We took elements of different films that the viewer liked and mixed them in a chaotic order. New Terminator villain, some illegitimate son of Schwartz and Patrick with a split personality. The plot (and I want to say that it is absent) is not thought out. The images are toys.
One last thing. And what about the scene where Edward Furlong is murdered? Why? Put an end to trying to revive the Terminator. Leave to the viewer the hope that lurks ahead of the road with intermittent yellow markings.
The most important fat plus of "Dark Fates" is how the film skillfully but neatly plays on nostalgia. Somehow magically talented director Tim Miller, behind which “Deadpool”, managed to recreate the very atmosphere and spirit of the first two films. How did he do that? Perhaps thanks to the return of Sarah Connor as Linda Hamilton and her reunion with Arnold Schwarzenegger? Perhaps even though the iron Arnie appears only in the second half of the film.
Perhaps some direct references played a role? Such as the mandatory trademark phrase “I’ll be back” or the appearance of the equally famous sunglasses in the hands of the T-800? Hardly. After all, all this was also present in “Rise of the Machines” and “Genesis”, but it did not help them at all. I am almost sure that the key to the successful recreation of the atmosphere of classical dilogy was competent directing, which subtly and not always noticeably borrows some old techniques.
For example, color solutions of individual scenes. The ending of the film is as fiery orange as the finale of Judgment Day. And the scene, when the evil Terminator of the Rev-9 model is pursuing its goal, is very similar to several episodes of the chase from the second part. The same large truck overtakes the incomparably small transport of first young John Connor, and then the entire main trinity. And so on.
It is important to understand that this is not a simple copying associated with the lack of original ideas. This is a competent work with images familiar to the viewer. We see something new, but subconsciously it causes our affection, as it vaguely resembles something we once liked.
It should be noted that the main villain of the picture also turned out to be very worthy. Actor of Mexican origin Gabriel Luna, known for his role as a ghost racer in the series “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.”, managed to present us with a very good killing machine. The new modification of Terminators model Rev-9 has new technical features. Of course, it looks more like an improved version of T-X from Rise of the Machines, but at James Cameron’s request we should ignore that film. The new Terminator is a combination of a solid metal skeleton and a liquid nano-alloy that has similar abilities to the T-1000 from Doomsday. In addition, these two parts can easily separate and act independently, literally like two separate cyborgs. All this makes the Rev-9 truly the most formidable antagonist of the entire franchise.
The villain does not cause complaints, but one episode can be a little tricky. Like any other cybernetic killer in the past, he is driven by one specific target. Terminators without purpose are an unnecessary piece of iron. As expected, it is programmed for clear action. And, if you need to portray human facial expressions, smile, joke, then please, if it is necessary to achieve results. Otherwise, no weaknesses, unnecessary demagogues or doubts. However, before the final battle Rev-9, instead of purposefully and without questions to go to the goal, decides to say a few words with the opponents. Namely, he asks to give him the girl he has to kill, that is, try to negotiate.
I know people who don’t like this change in character. Terminators do not talk for nothing, especially with each other. But I'm not so critical of this episode. After all, it is quite possible to assume that in the arsenal of the Rev-9 not only physical skills, but also psychological. Programmable negotiation skills as one of the methods of performing the task. Why not? It's an advanced model.
As for the positive heroes, there are also innovations. Protect the target from the Rev-9 arrives Grace. And if we've usually seen robots that look like humans, then Grace is a human being upgraded to cyborg abilities. She's strong and almost invulnerable. But even in the trailer stage, many in the network were turbulent about the fact that “Dark Fate” is some kind of too female film, and not to please the fussy and touchy feminist unrest.
Judge for yourself. Grace protects Dani and Sarah Connor helps them. When you see this trinity on a poster that says "Terminator," you really think, "Well, what?" Let’s change the name to Terminator. But while watching the films personally, I did not get distracted by the increased femininity of the characters and did not focus my attention. There was nothing feminist about the dialogue. Can some people see what they want to see?
As for our favorite veterans, Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger are the main decoration of the casting of the picture. Sarah Connor is cool, persuasive, and there is no doubt that all these years after the second part, this character was supposed to be exactly what we showed her. Well, iron Arnie, as always, in the title role of his life is matchless. And, I must admit, after its appearance, the film seems to get a second wind. All the humor of the film is associated exclusively with the aging T-800 and its interactions with the rest of the characters.
Undoubted advantage can be confidently called the visual series paired with cheerful action. You can see that Tim Miller is a creative director and tries not to do special effects just for the sake of the special effects themselves. In any visual decision or battle scene, you feel an attempt to create them interestingly, richly and inventively. And, most importantly, without unnecessary excesses and infamy.
However, the film received mixed reviews. Slightly less than half of critics and viewers believe that “Dark Fate” even turned out better than the 3rd, 4th and 5th parts, but, in general, the claims accumulated enough that the movie did not like. And as is often the case, it has to do with script, character motivations, logic, and so on. As I said, during the film there are many questions that remain unanswered, and therefore can be perceived as plot holes.
You can find them in any movie. But when the film is disposed, when he manages to create a good mood, sometimes I want to forgive him in something. Forgive some jambs to get the most out of watching. It is for the pleasure that we go to the cinema.

It is better to assume that this film was just not
The Terminator is a fantastic universe created by James Cameron. The first part, with all the technical archaic, was, nevertheless, a reference thriller, shot extremely gloomy and stylish. The sequel became one of the best fantastic action films of the twentieth century. The fate of the subsequent films did not leave hopes for a sane continuation, although “May the Savior Come”, perhaps, was the only tolerable film of the series, but without the proper courage of the authors.
It seemed that only the founder of the Terminator could return the former greatness to the cult character. In 2019, the rights to the franchise returned to Cameron, and here all the stars converged for a real I’ll be back. But the first trailer dropped from heaven to earth without a doubt all the fans.
You could forgive the film, even the concept that was in “Genesis” – parasitism on the classics and in a good stupid script, allowing you to perceive it as an anecdotal fan service, but what you will see in “Dark Fates” does not climb into any gates. And the presence of a fair share of the copypaste tape of 1992 causes only irritation.
It is impossible to understand at least some logic of Linda Hamilton, who rejected all proposals to star in the continuation of the Terminator, but agreed to participate in it. Iron Arnie himself was much easier to persuade, but believe me, it is impossible to look at what the series turned into without tears. Actually, the story of Schwarzenegger’s hero is a stream of some unimaginable stupidity, which cannot be called a script, and which no sane fan, and just a normal person, could invent. The T-800 has already been tried to make a good-natured navel, but, comrades, we are not watching the B-Movie comedy The Kindergarten Policeman!
Terminator: Dark Fate is the most disgraceful thing to do with a franchise. Offensive movie for any viewer, made on the knee for $ 2, where the actors do not even jump, and their movements are replaced by cheap computer graphics. I hope that the film will be a well-deserved failure at the box office, and all the studios will lag behind the topic of terminators for a long time. Until the real "savior" comes, it is better to assume that this film simply did not happen.
The heart of the franchise is the myth of the Savior. This is J C, a not D R.
Terminator-based myth of the savior. This is John Connor. It is in the Dark Destiny drained in the first minutes. Curtain. You just don't believe anything else. Femki, the problems with the Mexicans, the savior from the future of the Junshchina, three defenders leveling the danger of a new Terminator, Roar 9 never uses both of its parts at the same time for the movie. . . It's pointless. The answer is simple. Terminator film is not only about the war in the future, but also about the savior. He was born ready to be one. His mother has been cooking John all her life. All his life until judgment day. And then the piano in the bushes, fuck Connor.
You don't believe in Dani Ramos. It's simple. Sarah (the hint is that it’s not even Dani, but Sarah) is preparing her in the end. But you don't. The scene broadcasting on local Gopniks Dani-leader is simply ridiculous. It's not about the savior field. We also didn't believe in John from T3 and T5. The T4 Glavger is generally a Marcus hybrid, in fact. That's the problem with all these movies. The Terminator is an allusion to Jesus Christ. The patriarch. The main thing is the myth about John Connor (and it does not ring, showing long John an adult. an ordinary person). You just don't believe Dani can inspire the soldiers. Her gopniks will rape the third word of a hundred-page text. People do not understand that all this feminism and tolerance is the result of the fragile balance of modern civilization and are artificial.
When the world falls, feminism will fall. People will follow the patriarch. How hundreds of thousands of years went after the leader of the tribe, the hunter, the priest, the leader. Human evolution is such that the male is responsible for such associations. Barracks. A woman in general is not capable of this. This is not an attempt to offend, but a reference to anthropology, to a reality where most societies of the traditional and mobilization type are patriarchal. In the end, the truth should not be liked, it is always unattractive. This is where lies often reign.
There's no logic in the movie. Why is a legion necessary and why does it act like a skynet? Why did he need a polyalloy, if Skynet for many years was only getting ready for such technology, and 800 in the form of a person is a new model. It's a very lean model for the legion's armies. How can this be defeated with Dani Ramos speeches? The subject of her abilities was not developed (a hint was when her boss said that her brother could be replaced, but Dani could not). The T2 Therm clearly says that there is a limiter and the only way to start self-learning is to reboot. So Carl is nonsense. Extra element. It's just that Schwarzenegger is there to lure you to the cinema. As in recent films, it was needed for the same thing that did not improve their quality.
Legion's anti-terror program. Why should it repeat the path of Skynet and hit people with nuclear weapons at once, instead of the long path of subjugating everyone and everything, provoking wars and terror to gain greater freedom? How he got access to the weapon is not explained. Nothing's been revealed. Just take and appoint Dani, introduce new technologies. Legion in. Putting yourself in front of a fact, imposing a myth you don't believe in. Fantasy. Parasite. You are not persuaded, but asked to take your word for it. The film is not convincing in anything. what trilogy? You mean what? And the strong women you believe in have been around for a long time, it's not an invention of this day. Helen Ripley, Sarah Connor, Red Sonya. . All this was a long time ago (and there are recent examples, the film, for example, ' Three Billboards on the border of Ebbing, Missouri'). Do not call women especially strong, make them believe and attack, but show them strong!

There's nothing to discuss. It's worse than Genesis.
No spoilers. From the future, a Mexican robot falls to its failure in Mexico City, not the states. The robot needs to kill its land. This scumbag is going to get mad at intelligent machines in the future because one of the unintelligent machines currently runs a factory more productive than her brother. Mexico from the ground is protected by a fan of chips and she is also shrivelled for years by the hunt for terminators, plus a misformed blonde aka Ripley a smoker, plus the former governor of California he is a thunderstorm wardin.
The film obviously did not work out, it was clear from the trailers and some slightly very strange cast, but later.
The last thing I want to write is a disclaimer, but I need to warn you. I am not an army of fans of the original Terminator dilogy, I do not faint from the classic “astalavist” and “Alpibec”, I even kindly laugh at the temporal paradoxes of the first parts and at the obviously ridiculous albeit spectacular T-1000.
But at the same time, I respect the second part of the series, which remained in the heart as a cool action movie from childhood, in which special effects still give light to most modern blockbusters, and in which the amount of intense action and chatter is perfectly verified.
When the father of the first two parts, James, said that he would personally oversee the new part of the franchise, and even cross out the wretched 3, 4, and 5 parts, and even invite a normal Tim to direct, I was glad. Will the audience get the perfect trilogy? No, they won't.
I could have forgiven everything, but four things knocked out all the crap of hope for a bright future.
Once. Plot.
It is exactly the same as in the first, second, third parts. I understand that James once groped his forehead for the formula of the perfect blockbuster, but why do they repeat themselves so much? In this regard, it is worth giving liquid applause to the Terminator with Anton Yelchin, in which there was something new, but there was no powerful story. And since for the fourth time we are watching stories about the death sleds of a more perfect robot against ordinary bags, then we should not expect that this time the plot film will surpass the older brothers and surprise.
Two. Special effects.
It’s been 28 years since the second Terminator, 10 years since Avatar, 30 years since Green Elephant, and I’m still being fed off the screen with children’s special effects that burn so brazenly that I remember that scene from Blade 2 when plasticine ninjas fought against the background of searchlights. And the saddest thing is that special effects ooze out of every scene, everything is drawn, and you can see it all. The chase is not true, the fights are not true, the makeup is not true, the scenery is a lie, it seems to me that even the actors are painted (just kidding, it is so bad it is impossible to draw).
Three. A game of nostalgia.
I really hate the current blockbusters. Which Innocent do you press on nostalgia? Why do you add ridiculous scenes that either rape the original movies or insult them? Again, I'm not a fan, but even I wasn't comfortable looking at all the old people in the shot, the glasses you don't have to wear, the women's alpiback, and the first scene, which is generally Oscar-worthy for being ridiculous. Enough nostalgia! Even the new music was not able to write normally, and made variants of the same Tu-du Tu-du.
Four. Actors.
Mexican - what is it? This lady from the future -- what is it? Old Uncle Arnold, who took away Goodwin's heart and conscience but not his brain - why? Linda, it hurts to watch. And I'll throw rotten tomatoes at me, only the actor Gabriel Luna liked it. Again, fans of the second part are indignant, because Robert Patrick is not surpassed. Yes, not to beat, but the moon was at the level and it was interesting to follow.
Enough minuses, there were pluses.
This series is still better than 3, 4, and 5 parts combined, so everyone will forgive me. Even if the action was all drawn, but in some places pleased with ingenuity. Fights are interesting, and the new robot amusingly divided in half and cosplayed obsessed witches. And most importantly, I didn’t get bored, and in the final I started worrying about the characters.
If you are a fan of Terminators, then do not go to this movie, do not spoil your mood. Better put one right away. If not a fan, but just want a little action, then welcome to the viewing.
Terminator: Dark Fates is an unnecessary sequel, if it can be called one. Everything is squeezed out of nothing. This movie is about nothing. He's full and more trouble. Although... the franchise has long since outlived itself, slipped into some kind of cash. It doesn't bring anything new. I hate to say it, but the movie is bad.
So that there is no confusion, I will write everything in detail.
1. Scenario
F. Why and for what?
The plot continues to tell us the world-famous story of the war between humans and machines. And this time the fate of a man depends on a certain Dani Ramos. And she's being hunted down by an upgraded Terminator Rev-9, and also wants to finish her off. And a Grace is sent to protect her. Does that ring a bell? It's called a deficit of ideas! Absolutely uninteresting, squeezed out of nihil and part-time clichéd, secondary and copying Cameron's original dilogy. It's pretty much the same thing, only worse. The plot is boring and dull, and the characters are faceless.
Speaking of them... The new characters are disgusting! I don’t want to worry, I want to watch them too. And their dialogue is some kind of pancake ... ooh. It's very difficult to describe, it's just awful. Basically, they only cause laughter. Their actions are meaningless, if not always. Let’s say Grace’s character is on a mission, but she’s human. Why is she so stupid? It's not a machine, it works like that. Why this is done ... no one will ever know.
The new Rev-9 didn't scare anyone. I didn’t care about him or any of the new characters in the franchise.
If you look at all of them, only the originals were. T-800 and Sarah Connor are the only ones that do not annoy and keep the viewer’s attention. I would even say that... Connor is the only one who can think soundly and make informed decisions.
Back to the story... I would like to add that it contradicts the franchise itself. Remember the T-800? Oh, forget about them! Somehow, we are changing the consciousness of the Terminator. It's not clear. The explanation in the film is complete nonsense and the same contradiction.
What to say in general...
The script is terrible, as much as it hurts me to say it. The plot is uninteresting, squeezed to the last drop, secondary, clichéd and more boring. And the heroes mostly do stupid things and make strange decisions. And besides, they are generally nicknames in terms of their prescribed characters and backgrounds. I don’t care about the entire timeline of this tape. That’s how bad it is...
I really like the franchise. Although many people do not tolerate the third and certainly the fifth part, but for me personally they were interesting and moderately exciting. There were problems with logic, with presentation, with the explanation of what was happening, by the way. But at least they kept the bar of an entertaining action attraction. This movie doesn’t do that either. It's empty.
2. Actors
It's not all good here either.
I can only single out Linda Hamilton, who with her charisma, her play, gave the heroine a certain charm. The warlike image from the original dilogy survived, and to some extent even continued to develop. And her "I'll Be Back!" got goosebumps and pleased with its nostalgia.
Arnold Schwarzenegger was added exclusively for the same role. He plays the same T-800, the image is nostalgic, and his game is generally good. It was really nice to see this screen duo again on the big screen.
But now let's move on to not very good and pleasant ...
Mackenzie Davis is playing unconvincingly. She can't believe it. She tries to give the level of the character with the goal, but still she failed. In addition, I was also on the side of her character, as well as on other new characters... I repeat once again.
Natalia Reyes also plays unconvincingly. The heroine does not care, and the image is not remembered. It just has, her character does not understand what character, and she also has to play it.
And another casting pun is Gabriel Luna. Not terrifying, not surprising. He's not. I don't even know who he was trying to portray. It was like trying to take a little bit of everything. The behavior of various killer machines. But in general, he is not charismatic, uninteresting and certainly not instilling fear.
And in general: nothing surprising. Actors from the dilogy are great; the rest are casting failures.
3. Atmosphere + Graphics / Action
Probably not without flaws, either.
There is no interest in history, I practically did not learn anything new, the picture contradicts the dilogy, I do not care about the heroes - the continuation is unnecessary. They try to create tension, but it fails neither action, nor acting, nor the gloomy tone of the narrative. The entourage really isn't...
What about graphics and action? I'm fine. They're high; explosions and chases are realistic. Perhaps what really catches in this sad attraction.
That's it.
Bottom line:
Why and for whom is this done? Why am I guessing, so for whom?
Terminator: Dark Fate is bad. Not as bad as the fourth part, but still very bad. Tasty, uninteresting, secondary and insanely clichéd. The new heroes are wretched, their characters are not spelled out, and they create all sorts of crap. The actors for the most part do not play well, and there is no atmosphere at all. Although what kind of entourage can we talk about, if from their bellicose speeches-dialogues, which are sometimes meaningless, you want to laugh.
Yeah. There is a very good graphon and action. Everything.
Katina's just no good. In terms of continuation – this is bad; in terms of attraction – only watchable. For the sake of graphics and feelings of nostalgia, it is quite possible to look at once, but if this is enough for you.
It's clear I'm going to overestimate it now, but I can't put it any lower because of my childhood memories watching Cameron's original dilogy. And the technical component was quite good. But again, I pay attention - in terms of script, this is a pancake terrible ...

“Old songs about the main or new adventure of the iron Carl” – that’s how you could call the fantastic action “Terminator” in the Russian version. Dark Fate, where from the conceptual idea of saving the future, producers tirelessly continue to squeeze the last juices. And seriously, the new picture from producer James Cameron and director Tim Miller at the same time deserves both praise and many curse words.
An improved female human soldier arrives from the future in order to protect a young Mexican woman, on whom the fate of armed resistance will depend many years later. But, as you would expect, along with a positive heroine from the future, a vile uncle of Mexican appearance flies, or rather a liquid metal murder machine, ready to do anything to achieve the goal.
It would seem that you can come up with or pull out of the story, which for many years tormented by many producers and directors? And in the end, the answer was simple, and it lay on the surface almost all the time. The question is, why invent something new, when you can calmly reshoot the old, but at the same time supplementing some moments of the plot. In fact, James Cameron didn’t reinvent the wheel, but simply made a new version of the first two parts, compressing them into one movie. By the way, it is worth adding that the authors initially reported that they rejected all subsequent versions after the second film. Therefore, the obstacles and questions on the non-matching of the storylines fell away by themselves. As they say, with a clean slate, with a clear conscience. The dynamics in the film are enough, and the scale of the action increases with each new scene, so fans of thoughtless shootouts will definitely be satisfied. With drama, the authors also worked a little, but especially with this did not zeal, so the viewer will witness the painfully familiar story, only instead of one savior, as many as three were drawn, although the latter joins only an hour from the general timekeeping. To be honest, there and a female soldier could quite cope alone with the iron villain, but the creators go all in, so the presence of the other heroes should be perceived solely as a pleasant bonus for fans of the franchise. Although Sarah Connor in the whole story was real as a fifth wheel, which seems not necessary, but as a spare in the trunk does not hurt.
The main and, perhaps, the most significant disadvantage of the picture is a terribly secondary concept of plot development with pathetic dialogues. Yes, the script itself is not bad, if you do not take into account the previous parts, but within the framework of the sequel everything looks unconvincing, boring and uninteresting. Instead of a new and original story, which, by the way, many hoped for, in the end, the entire film, the audience indulges in memories and enjoys a tantalizing action. The second disadvantage is the complete lack of originality in the image of the antagonist, who collected the qualities of the T-1000 from the second film and T-X from the third. Don't say that, but the villain turned out to be a global blunder, although there were many options. The arches of the heroes are painted, but it is done very superficially and casually. They lack depth, realism and elementary soulfulness. All the characters are cold, callous and distant, as if competing for the title of “the most serious person on the planet”. And, fortunately, the only joy in all this impenetrable gloom is the appearance of good old Arnie, who has aged, known love, started a family, took a ringing name and learned to joke. James Cameron returns to the question of the relationship between a robot and a person, where people strive for insensitive robotics, and robots, on the contrary, are drawn to real life, wanting to know all the charms of real family happiness. In this film, the author hints at the fate of the T-800 if it had not died at the end of Judgment Day. On the one hand, it looks nice and cute, but on the other hand, it looks like some fabulous nonsense from the series about the adventures of Buratino, who turned from a log into a living person. But in any case, the appearance of the beloved Terminator significantly adorns the story, strengthens and betrays to it a sense of spiritual cordiality. It turns out that the inanimate robot again teaches people to truly love and appreciate every day. So in the final you should be ready for possible tears and sensual empathy, because when watching there is a feeling that Arnold Schwarzenegger literally finally says goodbye to the audience and the role of the Terminator, but does it as always beautiful.
Of course, the film is far from perfect and you can find a million reasons for reasonable criticism, but still, despite all the existing flaws, first of all, the viewer is waiting for sensual drama, bright comedy and spectacular action. It’s hard to say what the creators are hoping for, but James Cameron is clearly going to step into the same river twice. But whether he succeeds or not, the box office will show. So think and decide for yourself, because the future of the franchise depends on it (it is possible that without Arnold). Have a good time.
It's a sad sight. For all but the producers, it has long been clear that Terminator 2: Judgment Day is a legendary film that needs no sequel. But human greed in its infiniteness can only compete with human stupidity, and the new “Terminator”, more correctly called “Feminator” is the clearest example of this.
It makes no sense to retell the plot of the film - all the same, Skynet from Genesis was renamed the Legion. We are immediately proven that “Judgment Day” and the first film you basically watched in vain – Miller in a couple of seconds does what the T-1000 could not do in two hours. That is, Miller, like Genesis, closes two Cameron films. The only original idea for which the writers were smart enough – from the film we learn that in accordance with modern trends, the character of Dani Ramos is no longer the Virgin Mary, but let’s say, her own director.
But I'll try the pros. I personally liked Gabrielle Luna as the evil REV 9. Of course, there can be no comparison with Robert Patrick in principle, but against the background of which of the 4th and 5th films, as well as new characters, he looks good. And if you think and understand that in the film it has exactly two functions:
1 – to work out the rating of 18+, that is, to cut the extras and,
2 - to work as a boxing pear for our mighty heroines, so that they would have someone to shoot, explode and hit the head with different irons, then in the end REV 9 is just good. Gabriel Luna and his character here cause not fear, but rather sympathy and pity. Yes, if earlier evil Terminators instilled terror, respect and admiration (Arnie, Robert Patrick), or even antipathy (the fourth and fifth films), then the hero of the Moon can only be pityed. He and Schwarzenegger are the best in the world.
Even in the film there is Arnold Schwarzenegger, but here, according to the precepts of the film “Godzilla” 2014, the audience will have to stock up on a lot of patience, because Arnie-Carl does not appear immediately. What the writers did not want to remember.
Returned Linda Hamilton looks so unrealistically cool that in some episodes unwittingly turns into almost a parody, whether on himself in 1991, or “Commando” or rather “Rambo 4” given his age. It does not take it seriously, unlike the “Judgment Day”. And in combination with the rest of the female characters, the film turns into “Ghostbusters” 2016.
From the visual part, there is nothing brilliant or even interesting in the film. It’s even surprising that with such a budget and new technologies, the film technically looks worse than the 1991 film and all the sequels except Genesis. Miller is clearly abusing graphics that are literally conspicuous. From the point of view of combat scenes, you have already seen all this somewhere, and of the best quality both in terms of script design and purely technical execution. Well, physics in the new film is treated almost the same as in “Fast and Furious” or “Transformers”, which turns the film into a comic book of pure water, but not funny.
But modern political, social and gender trends are fully observed. Here you have strong women, for whom Schwarzenegger is inevitable, but an addendum, and a heavy share of Mexicans (hello to Donald Trump and his wall). And the new heroine we have the "right" origin and skin color.
As a result, “Terminator: Dark Fate” is another disfigurement of the original films. At the expense of Schwarzenegger, who here at least is not forced to say “now you can mate with him in this timeline”, the character of the moon who is sorry here, and more or less acceptable graphics, the film turned out a little better than “Genesis”, but this is a dubious achievement, especially if you remember Cameron’s words about the “correct” continuation of “Judgment Day”.
Competition with “Rise of the Machines”, “May the Savior Come” and “The Sarah Connor Chronicles” the film absolutely does not stand. The first two films are stupid to remember. In the end, we got a sibling of “Predator” 2018 and “Alien: Covenant”, only with an extreme feminist bias. Stupid, soulless, and just boring.
P.S. I believe that in a couple of years they will talk again about a new, “correct” sequel, which will cancel all parts after the second. Only there will be Idris Elba with Michael Jordan or Will Smith. As long as viewers go to the movies, the war of people with non-ferrous metals will never end.
For REV 9 and Schwarzenegger:
Caught myself thinking that the threat of total extinction of mankind does not sound as scary as it sounded in the 90s, when the second and best Terminator came out (and its success still haunts the producers). Whether we’ve been too intimidated by the end of the world over the last 20 years, that this topic has already become overly commonplace, or saving humanity as a species where one person can kill another for a can of beans doesn’t seem like the right thing to do. Is humanity worthy of life and this planet? Big question...
But the Terminator stands firmly on its iron legs and continues to push the same plot year after year. The only difference between the films is that Arnold doesn’t get younger, and someone needs to play Terminator. We have a killer robot and a defense robot again. And then there's the man who needs to be protected, because in the future he's going to lead the rebellion. But since the previous version of the future was canceled back in 1991, the world overcame another disaster, but also for some reason with cars. And the rebellion is now led by a woman (the worship of equality of the sexes).
The slow development of the plot, which almost completely repeats the very first Terminator of 1984, eventually ends in an epic fight ... which I overslept. It's really deep and sweet. For the first two-thirds of the film, I was still trying to keep my eyes open, but the fight finished me off. I woke up exactly when it was over, and it was time for the final touching scene.
Overall, the verdict is disappointing. The Terminator is already morally outdated, and releasing new franchise movies in the hope of attracting a younger audience is a waste of money. Are the old men and women really happy with the first two?
5 out of 10
Even though I'm in a bad conscience for this assessment of Schwartz and Linde.
We absolutely could not imagine that there would still be a film worse than Alien vs Predator: Requiem. It happened... On the language and in thoughts and turn flocks of all sorts of obscene words, which on such a decent site are not welcome. Of course, to slap a unit of this parody is easier than easy, but there is no digital indicator that could humiliate, trample, quarter, eliminate, destroy what you saw to be stupefying. Intentionally or not, before viewing why showed a full trailer for the sixth part (thunderously - the third). Like, were they supposed to tune in in a great way with a return to childhood and surging feelings?
The lights go out in the room, the film begins. Suddenly, familiar things begin to appear on the screen. The authors of the new film are very respectful of the first two parts of the film series. And suddenly the story went in a completely different direction. And here I went on a powerful journey. (It's about "genesis")
It's 2019. It's 2020 very soon. The human world is in perfect order. Okay, relatively full. No artificial intelligence called Skynet or Bluenet or Fucknet has taken control of humanity. The Third World War did not break out. You don't have to. People without the help of aliens, robots, solar flares, asteroids, Kaiju calmly decide themselves if patience is not enough. Something else is missing already a separate group of enterprising individuals who, after the fervent 1991, continue to release sequels of "The Terminator", and not forgetting with sweet pride to announce the prospects of launching a new trilogy.
I think this film series is being updated, it’s a new beginning. In the new movie, which I consider the third in the series, we see that the character of Arnold has been developed. In the first part, the Terminator was the main villain, then in the second he received the role of guardian. (It's about "genesis")
Of course, every film you make deserves to be watched. People tried, worked out their money, put on tricks, drew visual effects, portrayed fear. And they are living creatures who do not care about the bright memory of something and someone. The first two parts were never separate pillars, they always complement each other. The twin brothers, who, thanks to the genius of James Cameron, know each other better than the rest. The following sequels simply devalue these creations. Why was it necessary to show a magnificent tragedy in the “Judgment Day” if the prologue of the new part completely destroys the impression that remained with you forever?
It’s a painfully unusual situation when viewed from a high level, because I wasn’t involved in the next three films, but when I talked to David Ellison about it, his vision was to get back to basics and continue the story of Terminator 2, which is his favorite movie. (It's about "Dark Fate")
How can David Ellison confess his love for the second masterpiece and get to work on Genesis and Dark Fate?! He does not know or want to see, which only makes the object of his love worse. And no one can tell him or give him a tip on the head, because he has a lot of money. He's doing evil. The striking similarity of the fifth and sixth films is striking without a bazaar. Papps and Carl, awkward jokes, locations for the latest bouts: definitely noticeable! Why is everyone older than old Sarah Connor, from whom the sand is pouring? And also references-references-references to the first parts. And the phrase "I'll be back" sounded everyday straight. What did David Ellison do with these tricks?
He always believed in the potential of the Terminator, but felt that his film Genesis — and he was quite honest with me — did not live up to expectations and did not fulfill what macho intended. So he said, "Let's start with a clean slate and get back to Terminator 2." The idea was intriguing. (It's about "Dark Fate">
They were angry, they said, what a big noise to make. Normal, as it were, a movie for recreation and entertainment. Cut on the eyelashes: no “continuer” gave anything but bewilderment and surprise. They are only good because they competed in extravagant subheadings. "Dark Fate" gives the cutest cyborg-killer with a good face, Carl, who suffered an existential crisis, squalid variations of the main musical themes, a typical comic image. It's time to end this. No trilogies, restarts, fresh looks at the outdated flesh of the T-800. Just leave 1991 alone. There was nothing else in the day of judgment. We are positive about ourselves and others.
I was focused on finishing the script. I didn’t feel like we were starting with a finished script. There was a lot of movement on the project, there was a start date, a lot of energy and everyone was eager to move on to filming, but the script was never finished. (It's about "Dark Fate")
Rich people have their dreams, of course. Only we are unlikely to come to the head ideas to force the legendary series of films (aha, first, sucker, get it). It is one thing to want to correct some shortcomings or roughness of cult favorite films because of the antiquity of time. But why, Lych, try to continue the two great boulders called "Terminator" and "Terminator 2: Judgment Day"? Who, putting his foot on his throat and his hand on his width, confidently declares that those films need epilogues, branches, alternatives? Did James Cameron not make them understand who cyborgs are, why do they need John Connor, what is coming in the future, where is humanity headed? I mean, they're all pushing and squeezing.
I quietly worked with him in the background and sent them pages. Sometimes it happened the day before the shooting of the scene. I'm not sure it was 100 percent useful, man, but I kept the characters from getting out of their way, helping them sound more natural and being there. (It's about "Dark Fate")
It is one thing when you need to watch a new fantastic film (according to the year of release, and not the novelty of the plot), chew gums in thoughtfulness and condescendingly attribute it to the category “with beer and barbecue under cognac will go”. Another thing, when the whole world comes to the cinemas to watch the next spit in the audience in the form of another fool of the unforgettable "Terminator", the dyke here is your memorized "Come on, if you do not find fault, it is quite suitable for fiction" is definitely not the place. Imagine, suddenly there will be a book “Confrontation 2” and “It 2”, Radiohead will want to record a sequel to OK Computer, craftsmen will want to show another “Mona Lisa”. There is something unshakable.
Don't touch it. Touch the comics. They're trouble-free.
As a young child, I fell for an article by Movie Search, where eminent (not really) critics praised the film, saying that it is the best part since the Second Terminator, the triumphant return of Linda Hamilton and in general it is a very good film.
Unfortunately, the reality was a little sadder.
In short, this is an ordinary, unremarkable, ordinary blockbuster, after watching which a single gram of emotions, feelings or expectations will not be imprinted in the soul. For sophisticated viewers, I will say right away: this part is still better 'Genesis', although it does not seem like a compliment. However, the best part after the second Terminator certainly does not pull. Now in order.
The plot is more trivial. There is an evil terminator, there is a good terminator, there is a person who will influence the past and who must be saved. We've seen it... Five times, isn't it? The saddest thing is that the new film does not really offer any new solutions, ideas in the implementation of new robots. Yes, there's an aunt who's not exactly a Terminator, but a modified human. Does it show up in her character? No, it also falls from great heights, receives injuries incompatible with life and crushes enemies so that they fly away as from the explosion of a multi-ton bomb. That is, we have a lady to protect, a kind Terminator, an evil Terminator and as much as two pieces of fan service in the form of Hamilton and Schwarzenegger.
Now the worst part. To be honest, I am not the main defender and opponent of SJW and a number of other left-liberal trends. I am of the opinion that, regardless of the dominant social currents around, a competent screenwriter will be able to harmoniously build and describe the character he needs so that he looks organic and believable, whether it is at least three times a black, gay, transgender disabled person. I don't have a problem with that. It sounds idealistic, but cinema and history are more important than all kinds of politics and if you need to introduce any unconventional character for the plot - let it be, only do it competently.
However, there are problems with this film. Here, female characters play such masculine roles that in some places you grab your head: why prescribe such cardboard characters? If you look at the modern male characters of militants, they have long ceased to throw tenacious phrases, to break the heads of opponents simply and in every possible way to demonstrate their unshakable coolness. And here the heroes of Hamilton and the kind Terminator spend most of the time literally measuring eggs, who are the cooler, more severe and militant aunt. It looks so artificial that during viewing more than once there is a desire to punch your forehead with your hand.
Again, again, this is not a problem of feminism or similar trends, this is entirely a problem of lazy screenwriters who just hung stereotypical, orderly boring roles on new characters. And Hamilton in the new film is not at all like Hamilton from the second. There, she was a stern, merciless, short-spoken but purposeful woman who wanted to achieve specific goals because she believed that millions of lives would be saved in the end. And then she snaps right and left, constantly trying to show their superiority and supremacy over others, which fundamentally cuts the character of her character.
What is also worth noting is that the film tries to make fun of moments, but often it looks so faded, so strained, that it pulls to say the long: bruuuh. And maybe my grade would be lower if it weren't for Arnie's character. It has its own nuances, I admit, but if you compare with the film ' Genesis', then the T-800 came out clearly, much better. While watching this film, I smiled exactly twice, and this is due solely to the character of Schwarzenegger. A weak plus, because he only appears in the last 50 minutes, but after the tortured attempts of the director Deadpool (!!!) to make me laugh, it was like a balm for the soul.
I can mention a number of other blunders of this film, as the ALL faded villain and the banal follies of the script (like the access of an evil terminator to the world wide web and the inability to use the full power of computerized military equipment on their side), but this, I think, is forgivable for a modern blockbuster.
To summarize, it is very easy to get bored while watching this movie. Undoubtedly, there is a place to run countonia, explosions and universal destruction. But I, unfortunately for the authors, believe that the interest in the film is maintained by the characters and script events that force these characters to change their worldview. It seemed to me that the authors were stingy about these aspects of the film.
In the end, the good question remains, is this the best part after 91? As for me, the 4th came out more convincing, and even the third did not cause so many facepalms, we can say for sure: the heir to the original bilogy and this picture is not at all and, when they shoot the seventh part, this film can be just as quietly ignored. If you want to hear my purely subjective opinion: I regret not taking a couple of cans of beer with me to the movies.
Thank you.
If you want to see such a future, everything is in your hands.
As the old saying goes, “Everything that has a beginning has an end.”
After each new part of the legendary classic of 84 years and no less cult sequel to 91, this phrase sounds more and more. The next part was no exception. This is the dark fate of the Western ethnos, which the viewer can see from the cinema screen.
If the previous parts were focused on “making money”, then this masterpiece is simply open propaganda of liberal socialism in the Western way.
Main message:
1. The white heterosexual man (in John Conar) must be destroyed immediately. In the 3rd minute of screen time, it doesn’t matter that the first 2 films, women and men sacrificed themselves to save someone who will save the world. The new world is intolerable, and everything that happened was wrong, because the white heterosexual man who built cities, protected women and children in the war, and then developed and raised industry is no longer needed. He's obligated to die off as a rudiment or be, but not for 15 minutes at all, like a former Terminator governor. He has to be bad in the beginning, and after he takes care of the Latino family, he will begin to feel remorse and change. But there's no sex, that's out of the question. He should only be a good listener-housewife and raise the child of a migrant hostess.
2. Immigrants must lead a bright future, and women must. And it was not those women on the sneezing fragile shoulders who raised factories and enterprises, not those who gave warmth and comfort to children and grandchildren who later became great figures. These are not the great women who gave the last piece of bread to the children and soldiers who defended them. Forget it! The woman of the future is not an incubator to raise human saviors. They will save the future! I really want to ask. How can they save the world if they cannot save the countries from which they emigrated? And very simply they fled from the same male oppressors, white Latin Americans in the image of Gabriel Luna, who is so cool that dividing into 2 parts dumb from stage to stage. But the future, like the scenario of Dark, forgive the “Bright” fate simply does not think about these issues! Just like that, why is Linda Hamelton here? But insert her, she will be an icon of white feminism, helping the future savior of the world! And the fact that she was a real example of a strong woman 80-90s in the movies, but that's just words. The real woman of the future should be lonely and strong, but not like the future humanity in the person of a trans person Grace.
3 It is trans people or transgender people who must lead the future, as they are so independent and strong that they cannot do without painkillers. They help them overcome the pain. Moreover, this pain is not spiritual as that of the same Linda Hamelts in T1 and 2 pain about the future of mankind and physical pain. At the beginning of the film, the writers insert footage from T2 as Sarah worries about the future and tries to change it. Mackenzie Davis positions himself as a trance man of the future and period. I am who I am! Now I'm going to save Danielle and then in the future we're going to think about how we're going to save the world and whether we're going to save it.
Summing up the main message of the film, which was positioned as a direct sequel to T2 and the return of the same Cameron, whose triumph was 20 years ago with the Titanic, one can only say that “everything that has a beginning has an end, but after this end there is James the camera of the 21st century”, who has repeatedly said that “I am not the man who created the T1 T2”. "James, you can see it!"
ps. “If you want to see that future, it’s all in your hands.”
I have no doubt that there will be hundreds of reviews for this film, so I will save your time and start with a brief summary:
If you've seen the trailers, you've already seen everything worth seeing in this movie!
And now a short text for those who need to kill office boredom.
Your perception of the T-6 will depend on your expectations. If you’ve never seen the T-1 or T-2, you’ll be fine. A normal action movie, nothing special, but you can see. 6 out of 10.
If you’re a fan, you’ll probably spit. After all, when it became known that the producer of the project will be Sam, the hopes of the fan community went wild. He won't ruin the furrows! But it will not plow deeper - this is actually the continuation of the proverb! And yes, that’s what happened.
So, John Connor dropped his hoofs at the beginning of the film, but now we have a new Savior of the human race from a new malicious cyberbrain from the future. And two more aunts will protect her. And really, to hell with these guys, political correctness rules! But this is where it went wrong. The script seems to have been written too long and has become obsolete. Feminism is no longer a cake for LGBT people. The progressive public will not appreciate it! But already announced T-7 and 8, and the world will be clearly saved by black transgender, as well as gays and lesbians!
Oh, yeah, there's Arnold, but to be honest, he was only put in to lure fans, without his character, nothing would have changed much. Well, Linda is also here for a lure, although I am happy for her - even though the elderly lady earned money, everyone has to pay the bills.
The new characters didn't do anything. A Mexican woman looks even less like a messiah than that T-3 dude, too lazy to look for his last name. She could save a burnt oven pie! Her new half-cyborg defender is too pretentious and boring. And the Mexican Terminator -- he's not scary at all, more like a pizza delivery guy. Robert Patrick may not be a great actor, but his T-1000 was really intimidating.
Plot? Yes, the same T-2 with small variations, originality and does not smell. I don't know, maybe it was made for the fans, but they've already seen it! But GGI well very much and not always to the place. And the film is clearly delayed, it could be reduced by half an hour. And I do not see at point-blank range any "new" turn in history, but I see greed and nauseating desire to please the leftists. Only they won't make the cashier...
I will not put a negative assessment, you can watch it quite well, but leave your expectations outside the auditorium. This is just a passing fantastic action movie without any special delights. You can’t go into the same river twice.

No fate. There is no destiny except the one we create. This inscription was key in the movie "Terminator 2 Judgment Day". Almost 30 years later, this story continues. Therefore, the authors of the new part called it “Dark Fate”. I've been waiting for a new Terminator since the last one. And now I am waiting for the next one, as soon as I managed to evaluate the current, sixth part in a row. I'm not upset or disappointed, absolutely not. The new Terminator turned out exactly as I imagined it.
So, here’s my advice to you: Dark Fates should try to look at it as a direct continuation of Judgment Day, just as it was positioned by the new authors. Not to be compared with a parody called “Rise of the Machines”, a separate fantasy about the gloomy future “May the Savior Come”. And certainly, in isolation from the recent "Genesis". “The Terminator of Dark Fate” is really different. Simply because the problem with the franchise after T2 is the constant change of directors.
Tim Miller is a Terminator fan, and I think he really tried to make it a good, strong, fantastic action movie. Long before the premiere, I had the idea that someone could outperform James Cameron in terms of direction and script. And I liked part six. Yes, as a possible alternative sequel to Judgment Day. Of course, not as a full-fledged third part of the franchise that Cameron created. Movies are completely different. But I just want to say that the very first scene impressed me!
It’s a shame that “Dark Fate” is made in a different way. I wanted to believe that since this part ignores the plot of all previous sequels, the authors will be able to recreate the atmosphere of the sequel. But no. You don't have to count on that. As soon as the new characters were introduced, I instantly came to terms with the fact that the way it was done in 1991 will never work. Time is different, the director is different, the story is not what it was in the beginning. To be honest, Dark Fate is, of course, a replay of everything we’ve seen. The recipe is the same: a series of persecutions and battles of the defenders with a new dangerous cyborg.
And of course, a lot of references to the first two films, more still to the second. The scene with the truck, where without it? The scene with the helicopter is great! The scenes in the factory are not without it either. The emergence of terminators from spheres, the supremacy of cyborgs and not only over the common man and the police. What else can we think of in this universe? Except for the Rev9. Honestly, I'm fed up with the idea of constantly updated killers from the future. When this is the sixth Terminator, you want to make a big difference. But the meaning is the same: the “bad” chases the “good”. And only the Hamilton-Schwarzenegger tandem saves this situation.
Without Arnold and Linda, I wouldn’t even want to see this movie. The power of Dark Destinies is concentrated in their characters. My dream as a fan of the series is to see a sequel with their rejuvenated characters throughout the film. Prerequisites for this, by the way, there are... but after watching, I was convinced that these actors, even in old age, are pulling the film from the bottom, to which writers and producers have been pulling it for many years. The whole calculation was made on their participation. Most likely, the conflicting reviews about the performers of the main roles in Genesis worked correctly.
So I was happy to see Sarah Connor and the T-800, even as they are in the new movie. The other heroes on their background simply pale. Gabriel Luna as the new enemy is compelling, I didn't expect, honestly. He looks different, moves differently, the facial expressions of the new killer also correspond to the stated idea of Rev9. I'm just wondering when the writers will finally come up with at least one cyborg that will simply outperform the T-800 in strength and size, rather than speed and chips with appearance. But the scenes of the battles liked, half of them – a banal copy of what we saw, but 50% – still showed us something new.
A lot of people, including me, don’t like the numerical superiority of the female characters in The Terminator. There used to be only Sarah, and now there are almost twice as many heroines as Terminators! It's a strange decision, I still don't understand why. But if we do not take this biasedly, the rest of “Dark Fate” is made almost according to the canon of the first parts. What surprised me, though, is that with a big budget, certain action scenes look simpler than Doomsday! This is a joint, in 2019 it looks funny. In the 90s they have already learned to do believable, but here they just drew and mounted.
As for the aging of the T-800, I personally do not like this idea. However, Schwarzenegger in this case looks very powerful in his image, much more interesting than his gray version in Genesis. If you pick on the story given to us, there are a lot of shoals, someone will simply not like the old heroes. But I came to terms with the fact that the authors chose this one, and in this vein even liked the film. As an option, it's not bad. It’s a pity that I can’t say in the end “it was beautiful”, “it was great”, “it was a masterpiece”. Unfortunately, the sixth part was easier than I could have imagined a year ago.
Despite the script and characters that can be scolded indefinitely when compared to Cameron’s first two films, Dark Destinies is an interesting sequel. And if you compare with the sequels, it is better than “Genesis” and the third part. But no better than the fourth. The whole idea was held exclusively by Schwarzenegger and Hamilton. It's interesting to watch their emotions as they introduced their already iconic characters. That was impressive. The rest of it, we’ve seen it before, and more than once. Just a qualitative repetition of what was passed. Chases, battles, explosions, special effects - at the level of an excellent fantastic action movie. The Terminator has no other fate.
“Put 100 cops in front of you and you’ll get 100 dead cops.”
James Cameron’s return to the Terminator franchise gave hope to fans of the film series. After all, we must admit that after the second part, the quality of products went into a rapid decline. Everyone is tired of looking at the same type of stories that were not able to bring something new to the cinema. And let’s think about whether the three-time winner of the Oscars managed to fix the situation?
In the new film, Sarah Conor becomes a Terminator Hunter from the future. Filled with sadness and regret, she destroys all Skynet creations that pose a potential threat to humanity. One day, another organism loomed on the horizon, which must be protected from an improved version of the terminator. The place of the T-800 was taken by an improved girl named Grace, whose task is to rescue the new victim of the harsh look of Skynet.
This is a continuation of the story of Terminator and Terminator 2. And we pretend that all the other movies were nightmares. Well, or an alternative timeline, which in our multi-universe is permissible, Cameron explained.
Sorry, what?! That is, the viewer is offered to simply forget the time period, which includes three full-fledged paintings? At the same time, the director talks about it so easily and unforced, as if he spilled coffee and asked to forget what just happened.
Starting with the second part, the whole story revolved around a certain person who is incredibly important for the future. What do you think? It's exactly the same thing. Only with the difference that now instead of a man the victim becomes a female. Only to make her a character who wants to empathize, it does not work. It's a controversial image. The girl for minutes is confused and always asks stupid panic questions, then she suddenly turns into Rambo and tries to crush charisma and terribly pathetic phrases. But for the second component, you need stunning charisma and no parallel with Madison from Zombieland: Control Shot. Why did such cult actors as Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger or Chuck Norris cope with so many pathos? Because they took a lot of chances with their charisma. We have not seen anything like this from actress Natalia Reyes.
Another thing is Linda Hamilton, who returned to the role of Sarah Conor. Her loss of a loved one comes every time imperceptibly with an eternal note of drama. All memories come from the heart and break against a wall of pain that has never subsided over a long period of time. She blames herself no less than the main source of negativity. All this is beautifully broadcast on the face of the actress, as if she has lived this way for a dozen years. Of course, this is not Dani Ramos, who experienced a tantrum in the first moments of loss, and then forgot what happened like a terrible dream.
Arnold Schwarzenegger returned to the role of the T-800. The Terminator, after that elimination of his goal, decided to start living like a man. On the big screen, we were shown the transformation of the car into a normal cozy life. He evolved to the level of the human race and even learned to experience certain feelings. Arnold has not received such roles for a long time, where in addition to charisma, you should show your acting skills. This is the best development of the hero since the first films.
All this was fueled by high-quality action in the spirit of non-aging classics. In this picture, there is a battle in a production plant, and car chases, and eternal firefights, and even a mind-blowing massacre on an airplane. On the big screen, the perfect combination of action and good graphics was a pleasure to watch. Occasionally, pleasure was spoiled by dialogues, most often ending with a dispute "who is better."
"Terminator: Dark Fate", despite some similarity with the origins, still came out well. Yes, the creators changed the course of directed influence, and included more female characters in the game, but they all looked harmonious (except for Dani Ramos) and it is impossible to see feminist tendencies in this product. This is still a strong action movie, which still manages to surprise the interesting development of the characters.
P.S. The film has a hint of a sequel. The director himself said that he had already come up with the concept of the trilogy, and that this film laid the foundation for the idea that will develop in the second and third parts.

Unfortunately, the writers did not set the task to make a completely different movie from the previous parts of the new part about the Terminator. It's still the same 'T2' only with other actors. It is hardly possible to say that it is better, because we have already seen the plot of the previous part, which means we cannot close our eyes to the original source.
Here is the same theme about time travel and about changing timelines, here all the same chosen by the type of John Connor, who is not clear why chosen, here also in a spherical energy burst teleported terminators.
What's really new?! - Nothing at all.
The plot is rough in places, even too rough when it comes to the main character. There is no demonstration of its significance. Why the other characters in the film should protect him is unclear. There are indirect hints in the film that this character will become the leader of the resistance, but ironically, the film itself refutes what was said when it shows the death of another resistance leader from the past, although it was previously said that if the previous leader dies, everyone else will die and humanity will cease to exist. As you can see, they are not dead.
There is a good Terminator in the film, this is old Arnie, who has been living among people according to the script for at least 50 years, but ironically, no one has ever recognized that he is a Terminator and has not even asked why he has not been sick or eating food for a long time, etc.
I suspect Arnold was inscribed for nostalgia as much as for filling airtime. Without it, the movie would be boring in this scenario. 3 Girls, including Linda Hamilton, are already an older woman, not ' take out' they're the script. There's not much to play. The game of actors is to escape from the evil Terminator who is trying to kill them.
The intrigue didn't happen to the villain. Except that the Terminator's speech became more human-like. I wonder if this is AI progress or a joint of actors?
A terminator villain is a 2-in-1 cybernetic organism that is a mixture of a symbiotic bond between a liquid terminator and a conventional one made of metal. It is not clear how they cooperate with each other when two turn into one or vice versa. I don’t know about you, but I like the concept of a terminator of nanoparticles more in ' Genesis'.
On pluses:
In the film cool action, graphics at the level, although in ' Genesis' it was much more colorful, but there the budget of the picture, probably, was more. There are no special claims to the schedule, the fights are staged, excellent. The only nuance of the graphics, if you find fault, is sometimes darkened scenes at night, which could be made smaller.
Arnold pleasantly complements and completes the tape, it would not have been him, I repeat, the film would have become simply boring, so, in my opinion, it is a forced measure that he was included there. Linda Hamilton epically appears in the first scene, and then somehow lost among the rest, as well as the heroine around which the plot is built. Rather, these are the nuances of the script itself, the actors simply have nothing to play.
It is unlikely that this film can be described as the best compared to 'T2' rather, it is a copy of it, sometimes even very raw. Those who have seen 'T2' will not be surprised by what is happening on screen. You'll probably like the action, and it's not enough.
We are waiting for a new story about the Terminator, it is time to put an end to this.

I don’t know which fan called it the best Terminator since 1991. For me, the only thing worse than that is the last one that turned the thriller into a family comedy.
There was no more delusional input of Schwarzenegger’s character even in the film with Emilia Clarke. A Cyborg Killer with an Awakened Conscience
The "evil" terminator has gone from being an imminent threat to a whipping boy who just has to be in the franchise's plot. Seriously, he gets the whole movie, let's say, slaps. A cyborg can't fight back a seventy-year-old grandmother or an older model. He is not humiliated only by knowingly dead characters who are designed only to show his cruelty. While Arnold and Robert Patrick’s characters have been portrayed as really dangerous killer cyborgs who have to be escaped because there is no way to confront them, REV-9 is portrayed as just a blunt image to kill the future resistance leader. I know the weakness of this entire franchise has always been killer robots that can't kill people effectively. But he's a total jerk. By the way, the “good” terminator (more precisely, a super-man, where in modern cinema without them) in terms of intelligence has not gone far.
The new John Connor (not my words, the film says so) is a Mexican girl who stood up for her brother, who has been replaced in the workplace by a robot. And if in the original films John was able to become the leader of the resistance, because he was trained by his mother's boyfriends, and Sarah herself kept him in certain conditions. Why Danny would answer, “Because.” Given the fact that while patrolling flying terminators, the resistance, trained by the Mexican Connor, hide behind cars in the open, it is not clear why the “Legion” send terminators into the past.
In general, this film is very secondary. He crossed the Easter line and descended to copying the plot from the original films. I haven’t expected anything from this movie since the second trailer. But what I saw was a complete disappointment. No wonder Cameron tried to disown this film.

I really liked the movie because I was ready for another failure. The most important thing is that the film finally has its own idea, around which the plot is built. I'll explain. 1 The film introduces us to the world of the Terminator, explains the time loop that people have a certain fate, etc. The second film brought to the franchise the idea that fate is not predetermined, we have the power to change our future. And the movie did. The main problem of the following films was their wild secondaryness and self-copying. They no longer had the essential idea on which the film was based, around which fan discussions, decades of reflection, could be built. And so in T6, we finally got something like that, and so this is the sequel to the first 2 movies. T6 brings to the franchise the idea that choices can have consequences. And that preventing the Day of Judgment can cause much worse things. And that's where the concept of the film, the line of characters, is built. That’s why it’s a Cameron movie. Also slightly developed is the topic raised in T2 - the development of intelligence in a machine. The T800 realized the value of human life almost overnight. In T6, the Terminator got rid of Skynet’s slavery and had the opportunity to live in human society for 22 years, and we are shown what this led to. That’s the main thing for me in the new film. The main idea is a side idea and I like both very much. And most importantly, they exist, unlike previous films.
Action is hard for me to judge. Those who love modern action should come, there is a lot of it. But that seems to me the main drawback of the film. But perhaps in 2019, there is no such thing. The fighting scenes are beautifully staged, jumps, some acrobatic cullbits in fights - for me this is somehow not in terms of terminatorial. But in fairness, I must say that everything is moderate.
The villain is beautiful. I am glad that there was not another T... billion, because it frankly infuriated already. It's more of a sideways step than the T1000. But time has changed, and we're being shown that hiding is even harder these days. In addition to the cold-blooded killer walking on the heels, the world is permeated with the web of the Internet, satellites and drones fly everywhere, from which you can not hide. The Terminator is human at the right moment, like a true infiltrator. His talk isn't about talking. He does this in cases necessary for the mission. Get through control, find a helicopter, etc. In addition, we must understand that this is not a product of Skynet, but in general something else. He is not stupid, he tries his best to get to his goal and goes with the inexorability of the classical terminator.
Humor in the film is just as much as necessary, literally in a couple of scenes and he does not infuriate. Overall, it's a dark drama. This is especially true in the characters Sarah and Grace. The character of Arnie perfectly prescribed, for this I was most afraid and also thought that his appearance would be superfluous. But no, it is in its place and looks great.
The plot is very dynamic and does not claim to be global as 3.4.5 films. It's the same local story as the first two movies. The narrative is interrupted by flashbacks from the future. The structure of the film is still closer to T2, but does not copy it as the Rise of the Machines.
In fact, the film took a little from everything that came before it. But he did this not by crude copying, but most often by subtle references, when in a completely different scene you catch a familiar angle or light from your favorite scenes. Although there are a few and more obvious points.
The final battle is simply beautiful both in terms of technical production and purely dramatic, there are a number of references on an emotional level. And here again, even in the case of borrowing, this is not a stupid copying, but a complete modification of the context of this particular film.
In general, this is a worthy continuation of the dilogy and a film worthy of being included in the trilogy. I am glad that many of the fears were not justified. I am glad that Miller had the courage not to hold on to old cliches, to old characters, but to create a really new film in the context of the classic Terminator universe. Frankly, I wouldn't have mastered another nostalgic self-repeat where old Arnie protects John the savior of humanity from Skynet. It’s time to move on and that gives you a chance to continue the franchise. Negative will be, and it will be a lot, but without it nowhere these days, nurtured a huge number of people YouTube. A whole army of superficial film critics in comments, which in the arsenal only words ' delusion', ' not logical', ' I would like differently'.
Good luck with the movie at the box office, although it will be very difficult to recoup the costs.

I would agree that this sequel is the best piece of trash that has been removed in nearly 30 years. It's a leap from "terrible" to "so-so." But to "excellent / masterpiece" it is like to the moon.
The biggest problem with this Terminator is that it is not a Terminator. It's Transformers/Marvel who are parasitic on the two original films. There are old actors, and a truck chase, and Mexicans in the desert, and a warehouse with weapons, and a helicopter chase, and the final battle in the factory, and flashbacks from the future, and an attempt to create an atmosphere of inevitability, and much more. But you don’t believe anything that happens on the screen, there is no emotional attachment (almost) to anyone. And so there is no empathy, no sense of fear or danger.
Why is that? The two moments that merge this film are the play of actors and countons.
Linda Hamilton (Sarah Connor) is the hand of the face. Starchy, decrepit conceit. Shoots at all without missing and can teach anyone to shoot the same. Typical comic book character. The new Terminator is a clown. Nirazu is not a senseless killing machine. He would have played the villain in the new Avengers.
The only character you want to believe is Grace.
And countonium... It is terrible and inappropriate.
Look at the scene of the T2 truck crash. A real truck really falls down. He's really coming. It really explodes. And then the painted truck breaks down the painted wall and crashes into the painted cars. It's a cartoon. Cartoon and thriller things are incompatible. It's Marvel. It's the Transformers. It's for kids. A Terminator is not for children by definition.
There's an infinite amount of low-quality countonium in this movie. Even where it wasn’t so hard to do natural photography. Which is understandable - director Tim Miller previously shot Deadpool.
It makes no sense to discuss any logical inconsistencies or scientific “gaps” because this is a superhero movie, not a science fiction thriller.
Of the pluses, I note the game of Mackenzie Davis, and a good tie with John, which really logically connects this film with Terminator 2. All previous “continuations” failed to do so. If all borrowings from the first two films are considered nostalgic references, then this is also a plus.

New ' Terminator' began to set the bar with the announcement of the shooting. Directed by Tim Miller at one time shot ' Deadpool' which was the first R-rated film to break the box office and regain faith in payback ' non-children' films. James Cameron, this time not only produced, but also personally participated in the writing of the script and even the final editing of the film. Return to the key roles of the main stars of the universe, Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger. And of course, a complete cross-over of all previous ' fake sequels' and a return to the roots.
The plot ' Dark Fate' begins some time after the end of the second film. 'Cyberdine Systems' Destroyed, 'Skynet' Never Appeared and Judgment Day Abolished. Then, after a series of certain events, the action is transferred to our days. Sarah Conor is engaged in the sequential cleaning of terminators, which Skynet' managed to send in different periods of the past, before his destruction. Coordinates and time of appearance someone anonymously sends her in the form of messages on the phone. In one of these raids, she meets Grace, an improved human warrior who has come from the future to protect a girl named Dani Ramos from the Rev.9 killer cyborg stalking her. Sarah learns from her that in the new future, no one has heard of Skynet 39, but humanity still managed to create AI, which eventually got out of control and began to systematically exterminate the population. In addition, Sarah realizes that the situation that is happening to Dani Ramos and Grace in many ways reminds her of her own fate and decides to help them in the fight against the Terminator-killer and a new threat from the AI of the future called ' Legion'. Together they begin a long and dangerous journey, setting off a chain of events in which the time loop intertwines ' ghosts of the past' Sarah Conor, her mysterious informant, the future ' Legion', the destiny of Dani Ramos and the fate of all mankind.
The film has everything fans love 'Terminator'. There is a deep drama, and the experience of the main characters, and a sense of constantly approaching, imminent danger in the face of the terminator of the new future Rev.9, which this time represents a combined double threat and knows how to split into separate endoskeleton and able to take any shape, liquid polyalloy. Of course, in the film, great attention is paid to a large number of action scenes and chases, in the best traditions of the road run Movie & #39; Judgment Day'. Excellent acting, beautifully staged combat and dramatic scenes, strong directing. The new heroes - Grace, Dani and Rev.9 - fit perfectly into the reborn universe, focusing on themselves, and give a new round of development for a new generation. On the other hand, the cult Sarah and the T-800, despite the fact that in this film they act as secondary heroes and pass the baton to new characters, are wonderfully inscribed in the events of the film, are of great importance in the formation of the story, are deeply revealed and ' give heat ' returning to loyal fans the very emotions that they once felt when watching 'Terminator 2'.
Separately, I would like to note the problem of assimilation and the existence of terminators in human society raised in the film. And although this topic is not covered in this film as deeply as I would like, it is a great groundwork for the development in subsequent sequels. It is especially gratifying that there is absolutely no “feminism” #39, which was shouted at almost every corner, in the film. If anyone really wants to find fault with anything ' political' then they will be able to pay attention, except that the problem of the difficult life of migrants in the United States shown in the film. But adequate people from this topic will not be either warm or cold.
In general, the picture operates according to the scheme 'The Force Awakens', largely repeating script techniques and often quoting the film 'Terminator 2' without trying to copy it or surpass it, carefully bringing a little new. I think this is an important, absolutely justified and right moment.
Of course, the film turned out to be not perfect, special effects, despite the fact that in 90% of cases they look decent, in some scenes they still sag, the supporting actors do not play very convincingly, and some plot twists can scare off the immature minds of radical conservative fans. And yet, despite minor flaws that pale in comparison to the sheer number of merits, despite all the skepticism surrounding the filming, and the unfortunate raw trailers, Tim Miller was able to do what fans of the universe have been waiting for since 1991. He shot the real 'Terminator 3'.
Perhaps in a different situation, I would have put this film a solid 8 out of 10. But given the previous, failed attempts of eminent directors, and how difficult it is to remove a worthy sequel to the Terminator & #39, as well as the hope for a more complete disclosure of the problem of AI in subsequent films, I put the maximum score!
A stunning sequel to the first two films and, so far, the best action movie of 2019.
